What I'm not okay with is restaurants sending out food that they seemingly wouldn't serve to someone dining in because the customer isn't there to complain. I paid $8 for a large wonton soup that tasted like water. The wontons are supposed to contain chicken, pork, and shrimp, but all three of mine were literally just wonton noodles with no filling. If it had been one, I could understand it being a mistake--but all three? That felt intentional. The chicken egg roll was fine, but nothing special. I was really hoping to find a new Chinese spot, and based on the reviews I thought this would be a good one. Unfortunately, this experience made it seem like the quality and care just aren't the same when you order delivery instead of coming in person.

Finally made it back here to try this out. The building is small and unimpressive outside, but inside there is plenty of room. Decor is minimalist and classy. Service was very good, and fast. As soon as I ordered I heard my food hit the wok. The menu is limited; I couldn't order my standard Mongolian beef (though I bet you could talk them into making it.) I got the chicken and beef teriyaki dinner combo. The entree was pretty good: good meat, lots of fresh veggies, in a standard teriyaki sauce. The fried rice was... fried rice. No veggies or anything. Still, a nice side. The egg roll was mediocre and small. Cash only. Pop is in bottles, but there is real silverware. All in all a decent lunch. Nothing special compared to a big city, but just fine when it's the only Chinese place in town, and the competition is Subway or pizza.

When I walked in the atmosphere was great, I could smell good food and heard conversations. There's a large area with large round tables to right and to the left are booths and almost all of them were full. The menu was a mix of Americanized Chinese, traditional Chinese and included Dim Sum as well. There were a number of dishes we didn't know much about and there were dishes being enjoyed by other customers that looked delicious. The wait staff was more than happy to explain the dishes and/or show us on the menu what someone was eating. They took very good care of us and shared the tasks of bringing our food, filling water, and just checking in. Now the food. The food came out very quickly! We all received a well filled bowl of rice. First out was the string beans, perfectly cooked, not droopy, and the flavors of garlic and hot peppers. Even though the peppers were there the heat was not overpowering at all. Next was the shredded pork with garlic sauce. The textures of the pork and bamboo shoots were a nice contrast and the sauce was perfectly balanced and craveable. The special grilled lamb, I was told, was some of the best in the city. It was tender and well spiced. Even when he said he was full he just couldn't stop eating it. For the dim sum order we got the shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, scallion pancake, and sesame balls and they brought a soy sauce and a chili oil with them. The shrimp dumplings were tender but the dough was pretty sticky. I think this is normal and they were tasty with some of the oil on them. The scallion pancakes were very thin and gummy, this is the only thing we ordered that I would not get again. The soup dumplings were very small but packed a lot of flavor. The dough did stick together a bit so unfortunately some of the soup did leak out. The sesame balls were the hit and we're just the right amount of sweetness that we considered them desert. They were large, at least 2" in size, with a wonderful sesame seed covered exterior and a soft, sweet center. Chuan Jiang Hao Zi is a wonderful somewhat hidden gem. If you want traditional Chinese cuisine including all the different offal they have it and I would totally try it here over anyone else if I was brave enough. Portions were a good size for the price. I highly recommend checking them out!
