The staff were very friendly. The office was quite nice for a clinic and though I was a walk in patient I only had to wait a half hour. The nursing staff were pretty thorough and the nurse practitioner I had was extremely friendly, asking questions and seemed to take her time listening to me more than my own doctor. Update (6/26/26): updating my review to 2 stars because charge was canceled by the billing department and no longer shows up in my bank account. But it shouldn't have taken 3 weeks to resolve the issue. Horrible communication and inability to correct a mistake on their end. I needed a TB test for grad school and a lot of urgent cares didn't take insurance for the test. When I made the appointment on June 4th, the person I spoke with said they take my insurance. When I arrived for the test on June 8th, I was told the test wasn't covered by insurance and was $69. Since I needed the test for school, I just paid the fee and it was a little lower than some other places. However, they should have told me at the time of booking so I could have been prepared to pay or go elsewhere. The bigger issue is that they haven't refunded the $50 fee I was charged when I filled out my information online. The online portal just asked for my card info but nowhere did it say I'd be charged a fee. When I went to get my results read on 6/10/26, I showed the receptionist a screenshot from my bank account and she said that was a no show fee and they would refund it since I showed up to my scheduled appointments. When I check my bank account two days later, I don't see the refund. I've made several calls and the people I talk to keep saying they'll look into the issue yet my bank account doesn't show the refund. One person I talked to said I shouldn't have been charged the NSF because I had a TB test, not appt. It shouldn't take 3 weeks to refund the fee and am seriously considering taking City Health to small claims court. Very unorganized experience. None of the staff wore name tags. I am not sure how the PA runs the clinic without a supervising physician in the office--and without name tags, I wasn't even sure if the person examining me was actually a PA. He clearly did not know how to conduct a proper exam. On top of that, they do not honor scheduled appointment times; walk-ins who arrived after me were taken back first. This one star review is only for my return visit last week when I found out Dr. Higgins is no longer there. Unfortunately it isn't the same place, which saddens me more than I can express First I have to tell you how wonderful this place USED to be. Dr. Higgins truly SAVED my husband's life. We came to CityHealth Urgent Care after my husband had been feeling nauseous, short of breath, and weak for several days. Two days earlier, we had seen a PA at the same clinic who said it was just a stomach virus and sent him home with anti-nausea medication. His symptoms kept getting worse, and when we came back, Dr. Higgins was the one who saw him. She actually listened to what we were describing -- the chest discomfort, nausea, and fatigue -- and immediately recognized that something serious might be going on. She sent him straight to Eden Hospital, where they found a blocked artery and rushed him for a procedure. The cardiologist told us that getting there when we did likely saved his life. When I went back to the clinic recently, I was shocked and disappointed to find out that Dr. Higgins is no longer there, and apparently there are no other MDs on staff. The remaining providers seem kind, but it's not the same -- the level of thoroughness and genuine concern that Dr. Higgins had is rare. I honestly don't understand how they could let go of such an exceptional physician. She cared deeply, listened carefully, and made the kind of difference every patient hopes for. I called to try and make a Follow Up Appointment with Dr. Higgins last week...and was Completely Shocked and Extremely Disappointed to find out that Dr. Higgins was no longer at City Health. I first got the Privilege of meeting her earlier this year at the Montclair location...where I was diagnosed with Severe Gout...and have followed her for 5 more in Person and Virtual appointments since then...Driving all the way to San Leandro...as I live in Walnut Creek. She took the time to ask me what my Dietary habits were and wanted me to open up about and be honest with her...I Absolutely was amazed at thorough and personally caring she was...and felt completely at ease and comfortable...As it turned out she determined that it was my Diet and Wine Consumption that was causing my regular Gout Attacks and highly recommend I change my ways... As it turned out after completely changing my diet and quitting Alcohol all together...I was having a tough the first couple of months and she determined that my Serotonin Levels were depleted...and put me on a few Medications...that completely changed my Life!...I am so Grateful to have met Dr. Higgins...as she was an Amazing MD...and just the most Caring Human Being I've ever met...and will find out where she is now. I can't quite understand why she is no longer at City Health...as she is such an Incredibly caring Physician...and as it turns out the only MD at the facility. I'm so disappointed to hear that Dr. Higgins is no longer with CityHealth Urgent Care. I first saw her at the Montclair clinic and later started driving all the way to San Leandro just to keep seeing her -- she was that good. She is by far the best physician I've ever had. She really listens, takes patients seriously, and goes above and beyond to find out what's actually causing your symptoms. I always felt completely secure knowing that whatever I told her, she would do everything possible to get to the bottom of it. Once, she sent me to the hospital when another urgent care had discharged me. I ended up spending five days in the hospital with strep pneumonia -- she literally saved my life. Now there are no MDs at CityHealth, only PAs. They're polite, but it's just not the same. I'm not comfortable paying over $200 out of pocket to see someone without a physician's depth of training. Please bring back Dr. Higgins -- she was the heart of this clinic, and I'd love to know where she's practicing now so I can continue my care with her read more

I had a terrible experience with CityHealth San Leandro. CityHealth is the closer urgent care under my insurance plan. I was there on one Saturday. The system in CityHealth is unable to locate my insurance information. I was forced to pay $250 as a walk in no insurance appointment. After that, it took me 6 weeks and I am still unable to receive the refund from CityHealth. The billing department did not answer the phone. I called the front desk and reached to voice message and the voice message is full for the past few months and not able to leave a message. The doctor in the CityHeath San Leandro is nice. I've visited City Health before a couple of times without a problem but never again. Checking in, I presented my Medicare Advantage insurance card. The receptionist, Julian, kept insisting that he also needed my Medicare card. The point of Medicare Advantage is that your benefits are handled by an outside insurance company, so billing would go to them and they are responsible for the payment. He claimed never to have heard of Medicare Advantage, rather alarming for a medical services company. Or he was just doing it to be a pain; as others have indicated, the receptionists are not the nicest of people and I seemed to be disturbing his day just by showing up for my scheduled appointment. I finally said I guessed I have to cancel my appointment because I didn't have the card and had in fact been told never to give anyone anything other than the Medicare Advantage card. I even called United Healthcare and had their rep tell him the same thing, to no avail. I went to the City Health website and made a complaint but have never heard back from anyone, so that was a waste of time. There appears to be no way to directly call the corporate office. They probably just ignore the online comment form. I don't know if this is a scam where they charge both the insurance company and Medicare and hope Medicare also pays without noticing I have a Medicare Advantage plan. I have reported them to United Healthcare because of the possible fraud issue. So I was never seen, and to really top it off, I just saw on my credit card bill that they still charged my credit card, the copay for the visit! So I was royally ripped off on top of everything else. I would really suggest going somewhere else, like an urgent care in Castro Valley or Hayward (there is even a Sutter Health Urgent Care in the building next to Eden Hospital). Near Oakland Airport - COVID Testing Site Gayle and I went to Maui a few months ago on Alaska. But first, we needed a negative COVID-19 result using a specific test method from a State of Hawaii trusted partner. Gayle and I had recently moved to the Carson City, NV area, but none of the few choices there offered appointments. As we were concerned that local testing sites would fill up within the 3 days prior to departure, we decided to make an appointment with CityHealth and drive down to near the Oakland Airport for our test. We also added a few activities while we were in the area, such as visiting family, returning my work computer, and miscellaneous odds and end. The whole check-in, processing, and testing process was professional and efficient. We were even a little early, and were able to get to still get in line and have both of our tests done sequentially. We didn't pay the expedited test reporting fee and still had our results within 6 hours. Overall, it was a much better than expected experience and was a great relief to have a key piece of information as we worked through the State of Hawaii requirements. read more

UPDATE 11/7 2pm PST: my husband I finally received our test results today and several Cityhealth employees (Terrell, Shirlie, and Dennis) had reached out and helped us follow up with the lab. Their management is aware of the situation and working to help others in a similar situation (please messenger chat them and email them testresults@cityhealthuc.com). The delay in the lab result was ultimately the third party lab's fault (Warrior Diagnostics) as we can clearly see on our results that the sample was collected 11/2, received by lab on 11/3 but not tested by the lab until 11/7. We were told that the lab is backlogged due to spike in recent cases. Appreciate that CityHealth helped us and is working to help others with a similar issue. ------ DO NOT GO TO CITYHEALTH IF YOU WANT A PRE-TRAVEL TEST FOR HAWAII. AVOID AND GO ANYWHERE ELSE. False advertising that left me and my husband stuck in quarantine in Hawaii after spending $2000 to take a trip for our honeymoon. Just terrible. The people who performed the tests were fast and very pleasant to deal with, but we got tested first thing on Monday morning for our Wednesday flight to Hawaii and then it's just been a nightmare since. When we arrived at the SF location they told us that the regular NAAT test, would be a 24-48 hour turnaround time after they receive test swabs in Colorado. We didn't think of going any earlier than Monday because the result had to be within 72 hours and we thought that since it would be a rapid test, any earlier could mean our results were outside the allowed range. That was Monday morning at 10AM. We originally had a Wednesday flight but decided to push it back a day to Thursday (incurred additional flight costs) since we were cutting it close with the travel time and wanted to get our results by the day we fly in. Thursday would have been the 48hr guaranteed from the lab, they said. It is now 430 PM on Friday, we landed in Hawaii Thursday and have been stuck in quarantine, and we STILL don't have our results. It has been over 101 hours. We're now stuck in our hotel, had to forgo our rental car, and incurred additional expenses to Uber to our hotel. Hawaii told us it will take 1-2 days to verify once we upload to travel.hawaii.gov website. CityHealth cost us thousands of dollars to rebook our flight just to be quarantined in our hotel because you failed to provide adequate information about the tests and failed to provide the results within the 24-48 hour timeline you "guaranteed." We were told at worst it'd take 72 hours, which is a complete lie. They also said it was out of their hands and told me to call the lab myself. I have made multiple calls to both Warrior labs and CityHealth for two days. Warrior labs NEVER picked up their phone, and while Terrell at CityHealth has been pleasant and tried his hardest to help us, we are still left without our lab results. Thank you for making us waste $2000 and for the worst possible Hawaii and honeymoon experience as we can't even leave our hotel room for food or groceries, and since we're in Kauai we have no options to get groceries delivered, and every food delivery costs us $15+ for delivery/tip on top of our food. THIS ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT BE A TRUSTED AND OR RELIABLE PARTNER FOR PRE-TRAVEL TEST RESULTS. Spend the money on a test that will actually deliver results and a peace of mind. Each day I've called multiple times and have heard "results should be ready by today" and now I'm being told they can't guarantee results even after 5 days. Also, they said other travelers are facing the same issue which means we are not the only one and so again, save yourself and money and stress and go to any other provider. It has been 120+ hours and no results. Still stuck in quarantine in Hawaii and they are "just starting to process" with bo guarantee of turnaround. We got our results today. The delay in the lab result is ultimately the third-party lab's fault (Warrior Diagnostics) as my wife and I both can see on our results that it was collected on 11/2 and received by the lab on 11/3 but was not tested until today, 11/7. CityHealth has told us that their management is aware of the issue and it seems like they have a number of employees working with people who are in a similar situation to hopefully get their lab results as soon as possible. I cannot deny that it has been a frustrating for us, but ultimately CityHealth was able to contact us and help us get our lab results, and uploading it to Hawaii travel website was quick and painless as we were able to get autoverified within minutes of uploading the PDF of our result, ending our quarantine after 48 hours. For other couples who are waiting on their results, I hope you are able to get them as soon as possible. We definitely understand your frustration, but there are CityHealth employees who are willing to help, so reach out to them if you find yourself stuck in quarantine. I normally have a good experience with CityHealth, but this recent time it was a little different. While the clinicians are nice and helpful, I did not get results sent back to me. I was told it would take 15 min, then that turned into 24 hours. After calling twice with no real investigation I was told to wait another 24 hours. The second day I still had no results so I decided to visit the site to find out where my results were. After the clerk checked the laboratory, she was able to print my results which had been posted the previous day. She wasn't sure why I was not notified, but being a time sensitive matter this really made me upset and put a huge wrench in my plans. read more

While I haven't been here since before 2019/the pandemic (they were still at their location across Midas as apparently they've moved to another location in San Leandro) I'm writing a review of my experience there -- even if so much time has passed, it has traumatized me and completely turned me away from this place so significantly that I've come to this review after all this time to recount it! I sincerely & earnestly hope the staff and considerations have changed and improved in the years since then...! I had been here a few times (as it is just a block down my street) and it was good enough experiences (as much as one can have in an urgent care) and I would get what I needed. This time (my last), I had come in to be seen having pneumonia (confirmed at a different urgent care after). After walking in and checking in (paying upfront), they had me wait in the lobby for 30 minutes. This was a lot longer than what I had experienced previously and my experience at other urgent cares, but as an urgent care, it was understandable. So I waited, and they finally called me into an exam room. They just showed me in, told me to sit on the exam bed, and told me a doctor will be in to see me. I sat there waiting, and after a long while (because I had pneumonia) I felt like I should just take a nap because it was taking so long. But I didn't and I patiently waited, for 50 more minutes!!! I had already been there 30 minutes in the lobby, but now to add another 50 more minutes?! At 45 minutes, I told myself I would give them 5 minutes to come in, and I will go out there and complain and give a piece of my mind; and it came to that. I went to the front to show my frustration and demand an explanation. No satisfying one was given. I don't even think they apologized, no less showing any regret. I demanded a refund and then left. I was still exclaiming my frustration at the front desk, and all he could say is there was nothing that could be done and yelling at him isn't going to change anything. I couldn't believe it! This is an urgent care; what if I had a health crisis happening to me (they couldn't know mine was pneumonia; what about every other person who might have some random but serious issue to not wait for their general doctor and went to an urgent care)?! No one checked in on me (or even bothered to); no one even cared if I was safe or alive at any point in the 50 minutes! I mean, I understand things can come up and make things busy, but they didn't even have the common courtesy & consideration to just come in to tell me of a delay or that it will still be some more time or any other explanation. If I didn't come out myself, how long would they just have had me wait in that room?! I am absolutely certain they simply and completely forgotten about me, would go to put another patient in the room in what they thought was an empty room (because I would have been completely forgotten), just to find it occupied by me! Completely unacceptable! Because of this incident and experience, I haven't come back here. The thing is that I was so irate and made a scene, I figure even if I wanted to give this place a try again, I would either be remembered or the incident might be entered into the system. Objectively, the place was very clean and sanitary (even before COVID, they would be sure to give face masks to anyone coming who was sick) and was noticeably modern -- they were one of the first places I observed that offered tablets to check in. Their equipment (scans, x-rays, etc.) & instruments were all seemingly state-of-the-art. The medical staff and doctor's seemed knowledgeable. They seemed to have recently moved to another location in San Leandro, and I've only had experience in their original San Leandro location where it had just very small parking lot and street parking, so I can't speak to how it is now. It seems to be in a better centralized area of San Leandro -- which also makes it busier with the surrounding businesses -- and seems to have taken up what used to be a bank so I imagine the parking is a lot better offering than its original location. In the end, after so so much time has passed, I am willing to try them again, especially considering all the positive reviews here they have received since then. But in any case, I would only be willing if their whole staff that allowed that to happen to me has moved on out of this practice. Another thing is that I still hesitate because of my experience and because I'm worried I will be remembered somehow. When the time calls for it, I believe I will give them one more chance and will give an updated review here to this one; but for now, I will leave this review and rating until then (because it still happened to me and still needs to reflect my feelings towards this place until proven otherwise). read more

This is for the drive-up COVID testing site near OAK on Earhart Rd. Our family registered yesterday to have our PCR tests done this morning. We filled out all the necessary information, including our insurance information. Upon check-in at the site, the employees told us that CityHealth was no longer taking Cigna insurance as of two days ago and that the tests were going to cost around $225/person out of pocket. This is important information that the website should have told us upon registration. Thankfully, our tests were not for travel, but it was, it would have been a horrible ordeal. I would have given them 1 star if it wasn't for the nice folks working there who had to deliver the news to us. read more

SAN JOSE - April 2021 review! PROS: Paid $20 per person. Results were texted to me in 25 hours. The whole new travel to Hawaii is quite stressful with all the new hurdles, however... CityHealth was a breeze and SO EASY to use! I booked our appts online on their easy to use website. We rolled up to the SJC airport 72 hrs before our flight. They are located right past the terminals on the backside - super easy to find. You just drive thru, swab your nose yourself and hand back the baggie to the technician. The whole process was so smooth! The techs were all very friendly! Shout out to Shirlie for answering my questions over email at the beginning too. CON: Still giving 5 stars, but the only con was I couldn't call them to talk to anyone. However, I sent an email and got my questions answered within 30 min. So that was nice. I even called the lab directly the morning we were supposed to leave, which was already at the 72 hour mark, and they told me they're not contracted to give results that are approved by Hawaii. I told them I went to a location that was approved and they just said "ok." They then told me they didn't know when results would be released and couldn't contact the lab. I saw a previous review on Yelp that they changed labs because they had a similar issue with another lab. The new one is not any better. Don't count on their covid-19 turnaround. We did our test 71 houts before our flight and had to cancel our vacation because we didn't get the results on time. The worst part is that they keep saying it will be on time, until our flight departure. 78 hours after the test they update that it would take an additional 12-24 hours. Don't trust them to get you the results on time. read more
