After living in the Philippines for 11 years, moving back to the U.S. felt like culture shock... but in reverse. I'm talking Where's the Knorr? Why is the rice in tiny bags? What do you mean no lumpia wrappers?! Thankfully, we found Asian Market, and let me tell you -- it's like a mini balikbayan box exploded in here, in the best way possible. First stop: rice aisle. Yes, I said aisle, because this place doesn't play -- sacks of rice like it's harvest season every day. Then we spotted all the childhood favorites my kids basically grew up on: Knorr Liquid Seasoning, Chiz Curls, Mama Sita's everything, and sinigang mix for days and dried mangoes. They've got all the lumpia wrappers you could want -- thin ones, thick ones, different sizes, and even magical ones that don't tear when you roll them. Okay -- heads up: there is a bit of an odd smell in the store. Not bad, just... unmistakably "Asian grocery store" vibes. But honestly? I barely notice it anymore because I'm too busy living my best life in the snack aisle. For a Pinay mom raising half-Filipino, full-time hungry kids in West Virginia, this place is a legit blessing. Noel and i enjoy shopping and browsing through the Asian Market. This store is small & tight but they have about anything you are looking for. She purchased some Macha and chopsticks. There is so much to check out, and not very expensive. They also sell the most adorable chinese teapots and cups, puppets, toys, oriental fans, buddahs, if you have not been here before...go! They also offer a wide variety of fresh seafood still crawling in the aquariums and tons of spices!!! read more

This place is drop-dead legitimate and quirky. The stench of the rotting fish will puncture your lungs, but the low prices and imported products make up for it fast. I was just here last week and I still share my love for it all the way up in Intercourse. My Amish friends are jealous. The place is cluttered and littered with dirt on the floors, so don't walk in here with your expensive Air Jordans or $1 flip flops. I will be back, but I don't know what I'll buy next! read more

I was a regular customer until today. I used to spend $50-$100 each trip. Their prices are more expensive than a big store but I try to support local small businesses. I went in today to buy a bunch of items including fresh lychee, which were quite expensive but have a short season so we splurge on them when they are available. I had planned to purchase 5 lbs this trip. The box had many of the fruits attached to their branches with leaves, which I didn't want. As I was filling my bag, I took some of the fruit off the branches when a store employee rushed over and took away the box, saying I had to buy the branches and leaves if I wanted lychee. She said they buy the box by the pound so I had to buy the fruit as-is. I told her I come regularly but didn't want the branches and she said too bad, I had to buy them. In addition to the lychee, I came to pick up fish, crab, dragon fruit, and vegetables, which I'm sure would have cost more than $100. But I gave her back my bag of fruit and left. They lost a regular customer and big purchase for what I estimate would be at most $2 of branches. I won't be back. Ever. read more

It's the only Asian market I found in the area. We're here for a few month and I need some ingredients for making Filipino dish. This will do at least I was able to get what I need such as Soy sauce, vinegar, can food, seasoning.. I saw some seafood tank but didn't see anything in it. A lot frozen food, seafood, steam bun and so on. I didn't find any Jasmin rice just a Japanese rice. Only 2 people in the store working and barely speak English. Overall it's okay. read more

I really like the selection. Clerks are kind and helpful. Reasonable prices for most of the hard to find items. There are some that get pricey, but again, availability. So many noodle choices. It was daunting. It has most of what you need for an Asian kitchen or you trying to create some Asian home cooking. They do have live catch in tanks in the back of the store to peruse. Let alone freshly cut fish and other seafood, so there might be a scent that could...bug some people. Haha! But it doesn't bother me. Lots of foreign sodas, juices and treats to choose from on top of regular/healthy grocery selections. Also, utensils, cookware, kitchenware, and other utilities for the groceries you buy can be found here, if you're lacking anything. My family bought frozen fish heads there. When they thawed them out they were infested with maggots. Its quiet a journey for us to go get a refund on word-of-mouth alone but I do intend to. I also know how pointless it is trying to get refunds at places like this. Maybe some cultures prefer maggots in their fish heads. I can't believe my wife and mama would be eating frozen fish heads. Good stuff. I love this place. OK...let's be honest...the smell will hit you when you first walk in. Not sure if it strong herbs or old shoes....but there is a unique smell to this place. They have a wide selection of Asian foods..live fish and crabs in the back. Purchased expired jar Kimuchi(we always get this kind),still wanted to try but very very salty, they wouldn't exchange cause it's opened! I have been shopping there for many years and they know too. I never go back there.Also people working there are just there, no greetings and they talk to each other so loud in front of the customers. read more

South Charleston and Kanawha City each have an international market. South Charleston caters to Thai. Had to ask if they even had Korean rice, Kimchi and even dried seaweed. The market in Kanawha City has absolutely nothing for the Asian community. They cater to India. The market in Kanawha City was the absolute best until Covid and catered to all. They closed and then reopened later. The dear, sweet woman in Kanawha City tried to be as helpful as could be and we talked at length about ordering Korean, Chinese and Japanese products. South Charleston is too dirty. Won't be buying from their again. read more

I was there yesterday on the 4th of July. Saw the sign in the window that said "Masks to be worn in-store"...So I let my Filipino wife and daughter go in and I sat in the truck...Now later I was craving a can of coffee that I always get in there, I watched an African-American man walk out of the store with no mask. So I walked in thinking that it was voluntary to wear the masks and two guys stopped me saying that I had to wear a mask. I said, "So the black guy that just walked out of the store didn't have to wear a mask?" they froze and later said that he took it off when he left the store. My wife who had been in the store with the black guy for about 15 minutes told me he had never worn a mask and got help from an Asian lady that worked in the store picking out crabs, him not wearing a mask and her wearing a mask. My point is that NO ONE should have to wear a mask. And if the owners want to enforce a mask mandatory then enforce it to every race, not just me! read more

During last visit, things were looking more organized and much cleaner. Like many others, I have always been eager to try exotic products from other countries. Still I find no easy way to know what the products are, sample them or have explanations. Removing restriction on taking payments could be another way to increase business. read more

An AMAZING selection of Asian grocery items. An entire chest freezer full of dumplings! They have a bunch of fresh vegetables in the back. I got chinese mustard and chives. Both were great. The dry goods selection is incredible. Please help me keep these guys in business! read more
