It was a great looking diner. Old fashioned style. Our waitress was super sweet. The club sandwich fantastic. I had a cup of tomato bisque. It was too thick. Great flavor, but I just couldn't eat it. Ok for dipping the sandwich in. My husband had the chili. It was a little off. Too much chili powder. Their breakfast menu might have been the way to,go, since they serve it all day. If I had it to do over, I would have tried the eggs Benedict. Over priced for what we had. read more

This diner is a gem. It is an old style diner, where you are able to order what you want prepared the way you want it. The food is great. The prices are good. The staff is amazingly great. It is clean. Most of the patrons are very friendly, and have been coming here for a long time. Large groups are welcome and will be served well. There is parking around the area - I'm a bit surprised that there are a number of vacant lots which are cordoned off to prevent parking on them - strange if trying to promote more downtown businesses. Breakfast all day (savory and sweet), great lunch options, and friendly staff is a winning recipe for a solid diner! Some of the great options my group chose were the super rich kielbasa hash, the BLT that was piled high on tasty bread, the sauerkraut-smothered kielbasa hot dogs, and some stellar build-your-own breakfasts. Eggs over easy were set but runny, the fries were super crispy and perfect for snacking, diner tunes played all through lunch... This review is for Timothy's, the downstairs bar, under Quarrier Diner. I've never eaten in the upstairs dining room, but you can order off it's menu in the bar area. Both are owned by the same family, and actually the husband and wife were there while we were eating making sure everything as a-ok. And, it was. The atmosphere at the place is amazing. There are at least a dozen televisions for watching a game, it has that cozy basement feel, and the bartenders know more than you'd expect about bartending. The bartender went into great detail explaining the differences in scotches when someone down the bar from us ordered a scotch and asked which was best. Another couple asked about gluten free beers, and he quipped up more info for them. The times that I've eaten there, I've had the prime rib (the king cut is a seriously big portion), which was amazing, wings (again, also huge) which were very good, too, and the last time, I had the mac and cheese. I think it was the best thing I've ordered so far. Prices are very reasonsable. An order of wings is "5" wings, but it's the whole wing, so it's really like getting 10. The sauce I had was a sweet sauce, which was okay, but my husband had buffalo, and he really liked it. Since they are a whole wing, they are a bit messy and unwieldy to eat. They have about 40 beers by the bottle and about 6 or 8 on tap. I'm impressed that they had Rogue Yellow Snow IPA on tap, since you don't see that much around Charleston. The bar has a shelf devoted to WV spirits, with about 5 offerings from Smooth Ambler in Lewisburg (I didn't even know they had that many types), which impresses me also. read more

For the last few weeks, I have tried without luck to come here for weekend brunch. Each time I've arrived, the hours on the door have been that they should be open, but the door is locked with the restaurant empty and closed. Either they need to change their hours online and on the door, or provide some explanation as to why they aren't open. Not a good way to run a business. read more

The QSD makes me a little sad. I continue to go because I love the history of the restaurant and the building. I'm worried, however, if they don't get their act together, they may close once again. The food is often hit and miss. You're safe with the corn chowder and the macaroni and cheese; they're both delicious. The salads are bland and lacking ingredients, and the entrees are so-so. Last time I dined there, my rolls arrived looking rather petrified and my server seemed a little too tweaky for comfort. There's an all encompassing aloofness to the place that isn't excusable. Wait times can be ridiculous & you can easily be forgotten... even when the place is dead. read more

Absolutely fabulous. It's not fancy, it's stoic with lots of history. Wooden booths, basic home cooking at its best. Very affordable and worth more. I had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich that came with a side dish for $8. Excellent food and excellent, friendly service. The homemade cheesecake with caramel drizzled on top was the best I've ever had. If I wasn't just passing through I'd go there again tomorrow. This is a must eat at place. read more

Had the special at lunch, meat loaf sandwich, absolutely loved it. It was meatloaf crumbled with provolone cheese on a hamburger bun. I had a hamburger last wwek at it was also very good. Under new ownership as of July 2016, and much improved. I've been for Sunday breakfast once and a few times for lunch. Breakfast was just what you'd expect at a diner, and lunch was a cut above. I recommend the Quarrier Sandwich (Pastrami on rye with delicious Cole slaw on top) or the Quarrier Burger. Fries are delicious. Looking forward to trying their dinner menu soon. read more

Love all the food at the Quarrier Diner, but the real kicker is they serve Community Coffee. Best cuppa joe you can get in Charleston. The staff are friendly and professional; service is great and the dining area is comfy. Since the new owner took over in 2016, everything I've eaten there has been delicious. Salads at Quarrier Diner are always fresh - never served with old, wilted or bitter lettuce (one of my big restaurant gripes). Portions are generous and the food it fresh. I went for lunch in the main diner with 15 co-workers. It was soooo bad I felt sorry for them and did not even complain. Cold food, no selection from menu but sandwiches and salads and most of our orders were wrong when delivered. A ceasar salad with no romain in sight , iceberg only with croutons.......real disappointing. Mac n cheese was not on menu, but I've heard it's good. The family needs to get it together, it's a great atmosphere and people really want to support local vendors, it appeared they weren't even trying the day I was there. Been walking all over downtown looking for breakfast, found this gem of a little diner open for Sunday brunch. Got a very warm reception, and have been treated as if I was wearing 5,000.00 dollar suit instead of a faded black tee and jeans. Waitress was so sweet, and after I ordered offered me a special strawberry jam that the owners wife had made and was fantastic. The menu was standard diner fare with a twist, this was my first visit and I went plain Jane with eggs, toast, pancakes and assorted meat. The bacon was thick more meat than fat and was perfect in every way, pancakes small but delicious, and coffee was good. If this is just a local diner, I'm looking forward to trying all the other local restaurants in Charleston. read more

Six of us had dinner there on a snowy, cold Friday night. The upstairs diner was pretty much empty, so we chose to be served in Timothy's, the cozy bar downstairs. I had the Porterhouse Pork Chop with herbed butter, and it was the best prepared pork chop I've ever had anywhere. Sides of delicious and well-prepared and seasoned mashed potatoes and peas. (Snow peas were advertized, but it looked like plain old peas to us.). Others in our group like the dishes served to them as well. The drinks were generous, and the staff was friendly and accomodating. Our waitress was excellent, but I was so turned off by the automatically added gratuity of 18% that I didn't give more. Left to our own voluntary discretion, we would have tipped her more than 20%. read more

My first experience with the Quarrier Diner was a brunch with good service and food. The BOGO mimosas were a pleasant surprise. However, my second experience was the complete opposite. I called several days in advance for brunch reservations for Mother's Day. When we arrived on Mother's Day about 10 minutes before our reservation time, we were told the restaurant was closing because they had run out of food. This signals a clear management issue when they cannot even have enough pancake and egg supplies on hand to make it through Mother's Day brunch, especially when they accepted reservations they could not fulfill. read more

The food is good - once you get it 45 minutes after ordering. During peak times there are usually only 2 waiters on duty, which is ridiculous for a lunch rush. Friends and I showed up at 15 after 11 when there was only 1 other customer in the restaurant, and we did not get our food until nearly noon, with one other table that had arrived after us receiving their food first. The waitress laughed it off and said that it "takes longer to cook wings here." To add to that our order was wrong because the waitress "lost our ticket" and had to "try to remember" what we ordered. Don't get me wrong, the food is fabulous and I recommend it, but be prepared to have your order wrong, to be overcharged, and to have to wait. read more
