I have driven by this place several times and I finally decided to come check it out. At first I thought this was a buffet but was seated to a table and served. They were pretty busy and that was a good indication this place must be good. The decor was great and some seating were intimate enough for a couple to sit. I decided to order the hot and sour soup and their lunch combo for Singapore mei fun. The meal was good. My favorite were the noodles. I wasn't a huge fan of their sweet and sour soup, it was good but not to my liking. The noodles were delicious and had the right amount of spice. Came here for dinner with a friend since we've never been here before. I had the sweet and sour soup simply because the reviews said it was so good, but in fact it was so bland. I didn't care for it. I ordered combination pad Thai and it was alright but I've had better. This one definitely lacked some flavor and fresh vegetables. I felt I had a lot more noodles than anything else. My friend ordered a soup that I can't remember the name of it, but it was so sour from the amount of vinegar they put into it. My friend was satisfied but I didn't like it at all. The food here is a quality that is rare in a local Chinese restaurant. My family all had high quality dishes. The wife had cashew chicken. Cashew chicken is often just the usual dish then add cashews. The cashew chicken here is the unique Asian dish and they do it very well here. I had orange chicken. The orange chicken here was crispy and tangy. Very good. The people were sweet and gave great service. I would say this restaurant is a solid 4.5. We came in, were seated immediately and they promptly took our orders. As one of two sit down Chinese restaurants i have found in Lexington, I'm pretty excited. Weekend specials are 7.75, with soup included. Definitely not as fancy as Panda Cuisine on Nicholasville Rd, but for this price I'm really impressed. The wonton soup was the most flavorful I've found (ginger taste was noticable and nice), and my ma la chicken gave that nice full mouth tingle. We tried this for the first time tonight even though I've lived in Lexington my whole life. From the outside it's not much, but the interior is clean, comfortable, and the ambience is quiet and relaxing thanks to the pond/fountain located in the main dining area. I ordered an egg roll appetizer, which was crunchy, flavorful, and only $1.55! My entree was the Pad Thai with chicken, and it was some of the best I've ever had. The chicken was juicy and tender with the perfect amount of flavor, and the portion was enormous. My husband loved the Orange Chicken - not too much breading, a subtle orange flavor, with plenty of vegetables mixed in. I have eaten here before and it was fine, not the best and not the worst in town. This time I wasn't impressed. Our food was a bit disappointing. No vegetables in anything. We ordered Kung pao tofu and it was just tofu and peanuts. Maybe that is normal, but I've had it several other places and it had vegetables. The dumplings were not that great either. Food was good, but the service was questionable. When my friend ordered brown rice with her food, the server said, "So, fried rice?" My friend reiterated that she had meant brown rice, and the server said, "Do you mean fried rice? Fried rice is also brown." It took a while to get the server to understand that my friend was asking for steamed brown rice, and kind of felt as though she was making an assumption about my friend's intelligence and/or food preferences based on race/age/etc. After she took our orders she hovered around our table, walked by us every couple of minutes, checked in asking if we needed boxes when we were in the middle of our meal, and then asked if we'd like the checks while we were still eating. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time (we were there from around 4:30-5:30), and I get the idea we weren't too welcome. I don't know if they've had a poor experience will college-age people in the past, but it felt like an odd way for a server to treat customers. Anyway, 4 stars. I've visited Kentucky twice and have had to stop here both times. I was introduced to what seems to me to be a local favorite by my boyfriend. I'm originally from Los Angeles where amazing vegetarian and Chinese food abound and I have to say Asian Wind is among one of my new favorite places. Admittedly, the name makes me think of a fart, but that really has nothing to do with the quality of the food. Speaking of the quality of the food, the best thing I've tried is the Hawaiian KwaChik (sp?) with fried rice. They act like this kwachik is some special thing only they have when you ask about it, but you can get it at any ol' grocery store. Despite being able to buy it at your local grocery store, you probably won't be able to make it as delicious as these guys do in every dish they make. Lastly, I've only gone with huge groups of people, so the service was a little slower than it seemed to be for smaller groups. The waiter was still very friendly, funny, energetic and attentive. The food was also brought out hot and everyone got to dig in at the same time. This place is totally worth every bite and I'm sure you'll have plenty of leftovers when the wind passes :D read more

The staff is always nice, and they take almost no time at all to fill our order. We have also never had a problem - they get it right every time, and it's consistently good quality. We 2 tourists stopped here on a Thursday night and had a really tasty dinner. Each of us is vegan, and we were able to find good choices that were served in large portions (we each took some back to our hotel) and that looked as good on our plates as the food tasted. My husband LOVES this place. He always gets the General Tso's Kwachik, which is their vegetarian chicken (we've been told previously that it's not vegan) with the very popular General Tso's sauce here. The portions are huge, so easy to share. The liquor/beer is kindly priced. On my last visit, I had Kung Pao Tofu, which was good, if lacking in the vegetable department (it was *just* tofu). But if you ask, they'll have recommendations on what to order if you want more veggies/noodles/etc. I had plum wine, which was quite nice and super sweet (as I like my plum wine). Finally! A Chinese restaurant that isn't a buffet! I had the beef and broccoli with steamed rice. Yum! I had plenty leftover for my lunch the next day. I was stuffed after eating only half of my meal. The three other people I was with got General Tso's Chicken, and the all raved about it. In fact, anyone I've talked to about this place recommends that dish. Next time I'm there, I'll try it. Fun fact: descendants of General Tso still living in Xiangyin, when interviewed, say that they have never heard of such a dish. Apparently they're missing out. read more

I'm always a big fan of Chinese food that doesn't doesn't have "Super, Millennium, Happy, or Buffet" in the name of the restaurant. I've been to Asian Wind a few times now - the service has been friendly and familiar - nothing too fancy...but I'd say if you want formal, drive up the street to PF Changs. The decor is a little old, and there's some dust built up... So, why the 4 stars? Easy...the food is really good :) There are TONS of vegetarian options...not just Vegetarian Deelite and Buddha's Feast. I recommend General Tsao's Kwachic and I absolutely loved my Vegetarian Potstickers. In short, if you're in the mood for Chinese, and don't want a copycat buffet, give Asian Wind a shot. read more

Asian Wind has ruined General Tso's Chicken and Hot & Sour Soup for me because I've never been able to find anywhere that does these dishes nearly as well. They also have the best hot mustard I've ever had. I don't know if they make it in house or just pour it out of a bottle, but man is it good. Their lunch deals are amazing. It includes soup with the entree, and normally runs around $7. Don't get me wrong, it's great for dinner too, but lunch is such a great deal! I could eat Asian Wind for every meal.
