This is a very good Chinese restaurant. My personal favorite is the Ma La Chicken, a very spicy stir fry dish that when you ask for very spicy, they can make it quite hot. It goes quite well with an order of the old standby of Hot and Sour soup. It has plenty of vegetarian options for those so inclined. The drinks at the bar are okay if you really want a beer or a mixed drink. It also has take out for those that want it to go. The food is never quite as good take out for some reason, but it's still better than the various Chinese delivery joints around town. This is a fine place for food, though it's not exactly what you want if you've got a craving for Asian. I ordered the Teriyaki, which was a fresh chicken breast with light teriyaki poured over it. I was happy the chicken was noticeably fresh, but I could hardly taste the teriyaki, even after I added the additional sauce that comes with the dish. I did not enjoy the take out I ordered. The grilled chicken curry was inedible. The chicken was dry and the curry tasted like powdered curry with no coconut milk in it and looked a bit like baby poop. The pad Thai had no flavor at all. Three words A MAZ ING. Best Chinese food I've ever picked up. I did an online order, which was super easy. I had heard Asian Wind was good but nothing prepared me for the quality of the food I received. I ordered lemon scallops for my husband and sweet and sour chicken for myself, along with an appetizer combo. Usually when I order scallops from a Chinese restaurant it's turns out being about 5 bay scallops tossed in with a bunch of vegetables. At Asian Wind, the scallops were full sized scallops with a light lemon sauce and there was a whole container full. Same with the sweet and sour chicken. The rice was not a super greasy fried rice, but a nice brown rice that was fluffy and extremely good. My girlfriend, her mother, and I came here one night for a celebration dinner. I was excited because finding a good Chinese restaurant in any part of Kentucky that isn't Louisville proves to be difficult. There are some out there, but they tend to load up on MSG. That being said, this is...ahhh, I don't really know. The food was good. I had the general tso's chicken (my all time favorite) and I was expecting to be blown away in a sea of deep-fried spicy sauce goodness. I was blown away by something way sweeter. It was different. My girlfriend and her mom both had vegetarian dishes which proved to be way better than my entree. The decor of the restaurant is fantastic. It reminded me of a restaurant my parents would take me to in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle before they tore it down. I really think this is a place that I like. Inside is slightly nicer than the typical Chinese restaurant you sit down in. The service was great during my lunchtime visit. In fact best I've had at like places. Tried the kwashic (meatless chicken) which takes up a large part of their menu. Available in multiple dishes. Not as good as the real deal but, a great compromise for any vegetarian diet. Lunch menu had good prices and portions would not leave you wanting. Dinner a little pricey. Overall, I would say that Asian Wind or Buddha's Fart, as I like to call it, is strong. A wonderful restaurant, and as noted particularly great for vegetarians. I confess, I don't eat in often - their take out is prompt and always hot hot hot! They're very good about spiciness and they will especially add more sauce and other extras if you just ask. The best thing? Their sesame tofu - order it spicy! - is just amazing. Some vegetarians are a bit turned off by the mock meat, but since I've been a vegetarian now for more than half my life, I confess I don't even remember what real meat tastes like. Stopped in for dinner and was quickly seated even on a busy Saturday night. Had a few appetizers and a couple of entrees with the wife. Everything was delicious and came out super quick. The portion sizes on the entrees were giant! My wife's bowl of soup could have easily fed 3 people. Their beef and broccoli was fantastic. The Kung Pao chicken had just the right balance of sweet, sour, and spicy. The staff here are friendly and I learned that the chef has over 15 years of cooking experience. I ordered carryout so i cant say much about yhe armosphere. My food however did not take very long less than ten minutes. Price was reasonable but a bit more than i would like to pay for Chinese takeout. The portion was large and very filling and the fresh vegtables were great in my sachuan chicken. However the flavor was not all there it a little to sweet and not very spicy at all wich the dish is most definitely is supposed to be. we find their take on cooking to be a bit unique and refreshing! We enjoy their bounty of meat seafood poultry and vegetarian dishes and fresh vegetable ingredients. The menu must be about 6 pages long and includes real lobster and duck properly prepared at affordable prices! My Asian husband finds many of the dishes to be authentic some could be home inspired. The George sauce which is a condiment you can order to your table will add spice to any dish. Asian wind offers very high quality well prepared Chinese food. it may not be as authentic as some of the special menu offerings at panda cuisine but everything I've had here (and I've sampled a lot of the menu) has been well above par for Lexington. their egg rolls are some of my favorites in town as they are house made and they come with house made Asian style mustard that will punch you in the face if you get too much. I love that burn. that yellow goo that comes in the packets does not seem worth carrying home once you've had the actual stuff. they also have a very wide variety of high quality house made vegetarian and vegan offerings. my wife who has been a vegetarian for well over a decade loves their meat alternatives. all in all, its worth a visit despite the rather dated interior. it feels sort of like an 80's video in there but the food is worth it. read more

This was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. We were visiting from out of town and got some take out after a long day. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and after opening the box I discovered that it is more peppers and onions than chicken. What little chicken there was, was rubbery and bland and impossible to even cut with a fork. The "fried rice" that came with was equally bland and unimpressive. I've had their chicken and green beans and a couple other chicken dishes and they never impressed me much. The chicken is always slimy, like what you find at most cheap Chinese take-out places. A friend suggested their kwa-chik, the mysterious fake chicken alternative, and it's surprisingly tasty. I especially like the lemon kwa-chik and kung pao kwa-chik. It doesn't have the same sliminess that their actual chicken has, and it has a pretty good texture. Reminds me of eating Morningstar Farms chik patties; I'm sure it's almost the same product. So anyway, kwa-chik-based dishes are all I get here anymore, and it has made the place a decent option for Chinese food. read more

Beautiful for Vegetarians! The Kwachic chicken substitute is well done and served in a number of ways. My favorite is Sesame. Great egg rolls and vegetarian soups as well. Great service, too. As a fan of local bistros/cafes/slightly sketchy Chinese joints in shopping centers, I enjoy Asian wind very much. The name itself evokes a feeling of euphoria and the food touches your tongue with a certain suave that's very hard to find. The sweet and sour chicken is the Romeo to my Cinderella. The reason I've decided not to give Asian wind 5 stars is because it's very sketchy. And not the kind that's makes you feel like you're in China town. They take you to a back room to eat food, a room that may/may not double as an adult film studio. I can't shake the feeling that I'm being watched since the ceiling are all black with the structural beams exposed. If you enjoy good food and a lack of sexual security, you will love Asian wind. read more

Our favorite Chinese food in Lexington. We had never been here before, but decided to check it out on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The atmosphere is a bit dated, but it didn't matter. The service was phenomenal and the food was excellent! I asked the waiter if it was possible to get the moo shu without meat because I'm a vegetarian and moo shu is my favorite Chinese dish. Without hesitation he said yes, and even told me that the fried rice doesn't have meat in it, so he recommended I get that instead of steamed rice. He was right...it was delicious! My boyfriend got the general Tso's chicken and said it was amazing. He said everything was cooked perfectly...not greasy or chewy like some other places in town. Even the broccoli on his plate was cooked well...not mushy from being overcooked or hard from being undercooked. And the price was great...less than $20 for two lunch meals, a soft drink and hot tea. We have been long time fans of George and his crew at Asian Wind. However, we have been really disappointed twice in a row. The breading on our fried scallops was soggy, our egg rolls were flavorless, and the dumplings were bland. We will give it one more shot, but after that we will move on. If seafood is not fresh, it is readily apparent when steamed. The seafood was fresh and hot. I dipped the seafood in sauce or added a little salt.
