Horrible, horrible. My experience is very similar to other patients who make an appointment for routine check up and teeth cleaning. The sneaky manner in which a) they declare we don't do teeth cleaning on the same day - 'don't have time' and then b) get office staff to run up an estimate for deep cleaning and, in my case, an electric toothbrush at $135!! Arrived 9:20 for 9:30 appt. Receptionist no greeting. I signed in and sat down. Place was old and beat up. Completed new patient info. Was called in for x rays 9:30 finished 9:40 and taken to exam room. Again the place looks like a run down gas station bathroom. Waited until 10:45 with zero interaction. While sitting I read reviews! WOW!!!! Got up and left and was never contacted until next day with a text saying "we missed you". Looks like you missed appointment. They lived up to their reviews for sure. Good morning my name is lizetta Jenkins if you go on the review for Aspen dental in Bluffton South Carolina you would read what I said here goes some additional information 2025 after I spoke to a representative and went into the office because I receive a bill from them saying I owe them $2,2 25 not only was that not correct I have a copy of my bill showing paid in full in the office manager fine her copy same bill is paid not only did I find out that the office manager and the dentist was stealing from the office one of the procedure how they were taking money they were still building people credit card without the customers finding out then when we figure all this out and she said she'll get in touch with the regional manager to correct the mistake that the office made by building me I also got in touch with the manager calls her at least 7 or 8 times she never returned the call but today I found out that they reported this to the credit bureau because I said to them I was going to take out a lawsuit. I text the regional manager this morning and let her know that if she does not remove this within 2 months I will be taken a small claims or speak to a lawyer to see what he could do to help my case take my word please do not do business at Aspen dental in Bluffton South Carolina the office is not professional in the work was not professional and this is my opinion because I went through hurt and pain with my mouth and I wish we all can get together and do a civil suit but for now I am going to do what I have to do to get them off of my credit report because they stole from me and I have my bill showing zero balance. Cannot recommend. When you go in for a routine cleaning, technicians always find a problem that adds hundreds of dollars to your bill. In addition, flouride applications not requested, are applied and gums are determined to need immediate attention. Since I have taken care if my teeth and before switching to Aspen Dental, had no gum issues. Co-pay estimates are given, then after services, you are told you owe two or three times the amount you were quoted. I've noticed that everyone who leaves a poor review, gets a pat apology. It's truly a scam! I have been here for two hours and 30 minutes and have had nothing done to my teeth. I made an appointment for a cleaning and now have been told that same day cleaning is not guaranteed. They have me in a waiting room now for an office person to discuss options with me for future cleaning appointments. The hygienist said that she would recommend two separate cleaning appointments. I want to share my wonderful experience with Aspen Dental today. I have to admit I was skeptical at first to go, after reading the reviews; but ya can't believe everything you read & hear; as most people don't make a review on the good things. I have 2 friends who go to Aspen; so I asked them of their experience. Both said they were very happy. I went to visit Aspen directly yesterday to meet them & ask questions. I met the office manager Deon she was so pleasant, nice, & understood my needs & concerns. We scheduled the appointment today at 2pm. I had my consultation & cleaning done the same day. My hygienist Morgan was great, very knowledgeable to health care of my teeth. I even purchased a water pick; I'm so excited can't wait to use it... The ex Rey tech Danielle ( I believe that was her name) She was so experienced and quick to getting the x-rays completed. Without any discomfort she made having my x-rays, very pleasant and easy to do Dr. Busbee, was very pleasant as well. My overall experience was absolutely great... The only thing I'd like to say it to the readers; Per the negative reviews below. Please give Aspen a chance!!! THEY WERE GREAT, SO FRIENDLY SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE! I've seen many dentist over my time. You really won't be disappointed with Aspen! I realizes there's different levels of healthcare and things that people need. Do not use Aspen Dental in Bluffton. Bait and switch, you go for a check up and they say you need a "deep cleaning" and charge thousands of dollars. Look at the other reviews; they experienced the same thing. They did this to me and my son. The "dentist" barely looked at my teeth for 10 seconds. Classic bait and switch. Routine cleaning of $88-100 was sold as $574 first DEEP cleaning. After nearly passing out, bill reduced to $336 by removing, flouride, cancer screening and other items. Then, I tried to get their "free" xrays sent to my new dentist. After many weeks and calls, still wasnt done. Would not recommend! Recently moved to the area and I scheduled an emergency appointment for a broken tooth. Spent over an hour getting x-rays. They did not have time to clean my teeth. Saw the dentist for less than 5 minutes before being shuffled off to the Finance Manager to discuss treatment and costs. I asked about my broken tooth and cleaning. Said that I could come back in 2 hours for the cleaning. Stunned, I left highly disappointed! Not anywhere near the type of dental practice I had gone to before. I went to Aspen Dental in Bluffton after 6 months of being nervous about Covid-19. The technician was checking my gums with gloves on and her hand in my mouth. Another one was recording the results. I heard a voice behind me at the door requesting something from the drawer in that exam room. The technician got the item out and tossed it to the person and said " Don't forget to wipe that off" and then proceeded to put her dirty glove back in my mouth. My experience with Aspen Dental has been a nightmare. I'm a senior citizen with no insurance so I signed up for a dental plan with 1Dental on the Covington 500 plan. There were few providers that take Covington and Aspen was the closest so I made an appointment. First appointment was encouraging only because I was seen by Dr Mark who I felt was sincere and capable. He wrote up my treatment plan and I checked out after paying in full, about $800 for cleaning, fillings, fluoride and re-cement a partial bridge. Pretty much basic dental maintenance even though it felt a little expensive. A week later I was back for treatment but no Dr. Mark. Dr. O was there and had a totally different take. She basically told me she couldn't re-cement my bridge, I was on my own. She filled 3 teeth but within a week 2 of the fillings fell out. I was there 4 hours, mostly waiting. When I went back a third time they wanted an extra $450 to "finish up". Without the re-cement. This is the worst kind of business model. Incompetent employees, bait and switch billing. Padding the bill with things I never asked for. And very rude front office workers. Stay away...far away! read more

Going to the dentist is always stressful but today Aspen Dental made our experience stress free. Michelle was our dental hygienist. She did a phenomenal job of cleaning his teeth and was very patient with him while she did so. The dentist also came in to check out some baby teeth that my son needed pulled. On vacation and lost temporary filing. No appointment walk-in. Very nice staff and dentist cheerfully replaced temporary filing. 30 minutes start to finish including wait time. No charge and even called me a few days later to see how I was doing. Back home now and regular dentist installed permanent crown. Gave Aspen Dental a thumbs up for the care I received. Do not go go here. I would give zero stars if that was an option. First of all, they do not do your checkup & cleaning same day. You have to split it in 2 visits. It's a complete inconvenience & makes no sense. Secondly, both my husband and I had appointments that were "lost" or "accidentally cancelled" because they have a bad scheduling system. We have confirmation texts & emails, but somehow no appointments. That was what their excuse was- "our scheduling system isn't good." What a hot mess. Do not go here if you value your time. My company changed insurance options this year and I signed up for a new plan through Cigna. In exploring my new plan, I learned that not only did my insurer not participate with my current dentist, but that my insurer only participated with ONE provider--Aspen Dental. First, the closest Aspen office is 40 minutes away in another town. I am also aware that Aspen has been accused of predatory financial practices. Nonetheless, I needed an exam and cleaning, so I made an appointment. I arrived at 1:50 pm for my 2 pm appointment and I was called to the back on time. At that point, an assistant confirmed a bit of medical history and then proceeded to take 14-18 x-rays of my mouth. No kidding. The x-rays alone took 15-20 minutes. I've never had ANY medical professional expose me to that much radiation at one appointment. After that, I sat in the dental chair for 10 minutes while she did who knows what behind me. Weird. Then she took photographs of the inside of my mouth for ANOTHER 10 minutes. Finally, the hygienist came in. I've always loved my hygienists, so I was briefly relieved. However, she immediately tried to sell me Invisalign braces. Then she mapped my teeth recession and bone loss. (Spoiler: I'm 54, so I have some recession and minor bone loss.) She started talking about having the financial person come in and that's when I knew it was going to go badly. Exasperated, I asked if I was going to get an actual cleaning and exam, which is what I came in for. Seemingly confused, she flipped through my chart and then SHE left. Sigh. 10-15 minutes later, cue the financial lady. After barely referencing the treatment plan in her hands, she pronounced that I needed a "deep cleaning" and that my share would be $600. WHAT?? I asked if I could just get a regular cleaning that day and schedule any periodontic treatment for a later time, but they refused. By then I had been there for a whole hour. No cleaning. No exam. Just an offer to relieve me of $600. I got out of the chair, took off my little dental bib, and headed out. On my way out the front office staff was happy to add their "professional expertise" to the mix, ensuring me that they "just wouldn't be doing right by me" if they only did a regular cleaning and exam (just like I had gotten 6 months earlier at my previous dentist with zero fanfare). No, they did right by me by refusing to clean my teeth at all. They did right by me by recommending hundreds of dollars' worth of treatment without so much as a handshake with the actual dentist. Sure. That makes sense. I have, in fact, had the same sort of periodontic treatment they were recommending at least twice before. (Of course, I can't be CERTAIN it was the exact treatment, since they didn't actually discuss the procedure with me, just the money.) In those instances, I have NEVER had a dentist refuse to provide regular, covered treatment unless I agreed to some other extensive--and expensive--treatment on the spot. I am going back to my previous dentist and just paying out of pocket. I need a real dentist, not a hard-sell operation masquerading as a dental practice. I have requested a copy of my treatment plan and I am most certainly going to ask my dentist what he thinks of their proposed treatment and fee, as well as whether Aspen may have caused me any potential physical harm with excessive radiation. read more

First of all Dr S is great, it's the office procedures that I'm not happy with. Last time I went was for routine cleaning/x-rays but, for some reason, I was told I wasn't getting x-rays even though I was sitting with the x-ray plates in place. Next, I find that my insurance has been billed for x-rays. Tried to get a crown installed for a broken tooth but had to get periodontal treatment before they would do the crown! Shouldn't the patient be the one to decide if they want that treatment and if they can afford it? Sounds like they need the add-ons to increase the bottom line. read more

I recently took a friend to an appt at Aspen and I had seen two of their docs on my providers list and made a new patient appt that day. My wife and I were patients since 2017 shortly after Aspen opened its Bluffton facility. I felt good about our first two experiences. On our third visit we were told what procedures would be done and we were expected to pay in advance. Never before have I been asked to pay in advance of a service. Never before was I told what the services would be without my approval. My wife and I are almost 70 years old and have had semi-annual dental work done for many, many years. We have had so many x-rays done over the years that it should not have been required on this visit. Our teeth are still the originals and are in very good condition. Full x-rays were done a little less than a year earlier. It was not an option on our third visit to delay the x-rays until our next 6-month visit. We were told, however, that their "protocol" required the new x-rays. Therefore we declined and left. We will look for a new dental provider who does what is needed and allows the patient-customer to make his own decision regarding the services that make sense. read more
