I had a very concerning experience at this dental office. Patient privacy did not appear to be taken seriously--staff called out full patient names across a crowded waiting room, and the sign-in sheet displayed everyone's full names without covering previous entries. I was also told they needed to "pre-approve" my prepaid dental insurance plan, which caused a long delay. During that time, staff repeatedly suggested adding additional procedures while waiting for insurance confirmation. This raised concerns because prepaid plans typically already have predetermined coverage, and the situation felt like services were being added before any clear approval or explanation. After waiting over an hour, I still never received the dental cleaning I had scheduled. The appointment seemed to shift toward discussing additional billable services instead of providing the basic care I came in for. Absolutely the worst dentist I've ever been to. First they wanted to straighten my lower teeth for $1,300. I wasn't really buying their explanation that my lower teeth were the reason my upper teeth had been chipping, but I said I'd think about it. That was last year. When I went back a couple months ago, I mentioned to the dentist that they had wanted to straighten my teeth. I was still thinking about it at the time, but I guess it went in one ear and out the other, because instead the dentist told me that I had two cavities and periodontitis and they set me up with a $1,500 plan to have those issues corrected. This was all after insurance, btw, and their plan would have squeezed every last drop out of my yearly insurance maximum. Something about this all didn't sit well with me, though, partially because I asked them how much the custom mouth guard that they mentioned would cost and instead of telling me, they just added it to the plan. It was $300 and I had to specifically ask them to take it off. When I got home, I decided to look this place up and see what other people were saying and I distinctly remember reading a review somewhere by someone who took their kid there and they added an expensive electric tooth brush to the bill without ever even mentioning it or asking if they wanted it. I thought to myself "There's no way that's on my bill. Right?" Yeah, sure enough, there it was, an expensive electric toothbrush that I never asked for and they never even told me I was getting. At this point, I was sick of this company's crap. I canceled the follow up appointment and decided to get a second opinion with a nice little private practice that is *just* down the street in the Largo Professional Center. Turns out, I don't have any cavities and I just have some mild gingivitis that they treated for a grand total of *drum roll* $34 after insurance. And to top it all off, after all of that Aspen still charged the $1,500 to my care credit account. It took me two months of hassling them to get them to refund it. That much was frustrating, but it actually scares me a bit to think how close I came to having these people permanently fuck up my teeth. read more

Unapologetically dishonest billing. Was told by the financial assistant(guessing his job title) the second payment placed on the my new care card was the final bill I would receive for the procedure. I have received 2 bills since. Also told me I could use the care card for any service I have done there, found out today that was also a lie, must be a $200 minimum. Instead of " I am sorry he lied to you", it continued with "Well, you can't be mad at us for their policies." Used this Dentist office for 5 years. Almost every time you go, there will be all new staff. My most recent visit June 2022 put me over the edge. Front desk employee is very rude and unhelpful. Each time I go, this place has trouble properly billing my insurance. Now to the hygienist...This guy did a gum check where they poke your gums and get a depth # (not sure of the technical term). Usually there are two ppl when doing this so the person doing the exam can relay each number to the other person to enter in the computer, but not this time. This guy tells me I had early gum disease even though I've come to this place every 6 months for years and never had a single problem. He told me they would have to do a deep cleaning and then come back in 10 days. The deep cleaning was the exact same cleaning I've always had done in the past. 10 days later I came back for the 5 minute polishing. Of course they wanted to charge me another $130 for this second visit 5 minute polish...ummm no!!! They said I needed a special mouthwash $40 and a special tiny travel size thing of tooth paste another $40. Now enter the Dentist who I've never seen before in the years I've been there. She claims I have 8 cavities. The reason I go to the dentist every 6 months is to avoid cavities and now suddenly I have 8. Suddenly my wisdom teeth are now a problem and I need an oral surgeon. I'm 40 btw and they've checked my wisdom teeth at every X-ray. I thought it was funny when I sat down at the office chair after my second, pointless cleaning and asked for a manager. The guy sitting there was counting a stack of dollar bills like he was in the mob ( not joking at all). The idiot got up and just left the money sitting in this desk until he finally came back to secure the spoils of the day. I went for another opinion at my wife's dentist, a non-corporate practice. Surprise surprise, no cavities, great looking gums. Only complaints they had was my coffee drinking. Aspen is a very shady place. Beware if you go there. Not sure if it's just the location in Largo, FL or them all. Probably the entire company. They have so much turnover b/c even the employees can't stand the shay business practices. read more

After 90 min of X-rays, an exam from a hygienist I didn't ask for telling me I needed a cleaning and trying to make me schedule that, did I finally meet with the doctor. $340 later and two days later the tooth broke again. They also gave me an itemized list of over $3500 other things they said I would need. This is literally the crappy mechanics version of a dental practice. NEVER EVER go here!!! read more

If only the dentist were Aspen; Dr. Reham El-Hennawey was friendly, professional, capable, & she knew exactly how to reassure an ill at ease patient. I had no pain during or after the procedure. Unfortunately, as good as Dr. El-Hennawey was, this rating is for the overall experience. And she apparently cannot correct the problems plaguing Aspen. (This excellent doctor performs only root canals. She also works out of the Aspen Dental offices in Tampa, Brandon, & New Port Richey.) This was the second Aspen office I'd utilized over a short span of time. I felt compelled to come here because my insurance company would not cover additional X-rays had I chosen another dental office. (Due to infection & headaches, I needed the work performed quickly.) The administrative support staff is in sorry shape. And that makes it an upper level managerial issue. Aspen needs new leadership! With all the negative Yelp reviews for all the Aspen offices, change is well overdue. My TWO STAR experience: (1) I drove 70 miles (two counties away) for a morning appt only to have staff instruct me to complete New Patient paperwork even though I was a returning Aspen patient. (First red flag missed) (2) My appt time came & went by 20 minutes. I was then told that due to having listed me as a new patient there would be no root canal even though I had phoned Aspen a week prior & had discussed the upcoming procedure in detail w/ a female staffer (3) Today's staffer could not provide my pending out-of-pocket costs because my insurance info had not been fully entered into Aspen's computer network (even though a week prior I had my insurance rep fax the info & verify it had been recd). (4) I was sent away for FIVE HOURS; I was provided a new appt in the late afternoon. I lived too far away to go home. (5) When I returned for the procedure, I was kept waiting. I was told I could not have the procedure (yet) because my insurance info STILL had not been fully entered; apparently a coding clarification was needed from my insurance company, but in five hours no one had bothered to rectify the problem. (6) After Aspen staff finally reached my insurance co & entered my info, I was allowed to prepay. My procedure could begin (late). There is NO EXCUSE for the incompetency I experienced. The unnecessary circus act cost me many hours on a day I had taken off from work. Aspen's top tier needs to take corrective action-- retrain staff and/or fire them, & that most definitely includes their managers. Aspen, your patients deserve better! read more

The girl that did my x-Rays was very nice and they explained everything, but after that they attempted to high pressure me into getting periodontal treatment, 2 root canals and get a cavity fixed. First visit, husband and I told by dental hygienist we both have periodontal disease and needed special $450 periodontal cleaning. Luckily I checked with insurance who would not cover the special cleanings stating we were never treated for periodontal disease. Went to another dentist and we DO NOT have periodontal disease. How can a dental hygienist diagnose a dental disease? She went beyond her scope of practice maybe the medical board for dental hygienist needs to be notified. I went here for a root canal that I was absolutely dreading. Surprisingly it went extremely quickly and without issue. I completely credit this to Dr Reham El-Hennawey and her assistant. I normally have a huge problem with the local anesthetic, but they didn't make a big deal about it and it was done almost before I knew it. At one point I needed a little bit more (I assume when they got to the nerve), and it was taken care of and then I felt no more discomfort than keeping my mouth open. I was done in about 30 minutes. Amazing work in a clean office with pleasant music. Nobody likes dental work but I could not recommend Dr El-Hennawey more highly if you do. read more

Aspen Dental was a great experience for me until I visited the Largo, Fl. office. I now have removed my records to a different office. The account specialist Liza created a total frustration for me. First visit, " Insurance will not cover your bill", when I have premium dental insurance with Aspen being in network . Second visit scheduled dental cleaning, "We cannot clean your teeth until you pay your bill ", which was submitted as an out of network billing. Call to have records forwarded, I stated I needed them forwarded by the first Sunday and Liza proceeds to ask me, "Is the dentist office open on that day?" What difference does that make? All you have to do is read their reviews on Yelp to see there is clearly something very wrong with this establishment. I wish i had before I went there. i went in for a regular annual dental visit--checkup, xrays, cleaning--which i thought would be a breeze as I had no problems with my teeth. The dentist, named Katz, informed me that I needed a deep cleaning immediately, since i had periodontal disease. i said I didn't think I did. She told me my teeth were going to fall out and my bone had receded so much that they would not be able to save or replace my teeth. i was really scared b/c I had been told by relatives and friends that the procedure was very painful. in the end i agreed to let them do it. i kept asking the front desk employees how long it would take and was told 1 hour to an hour and a half. I was greatly relieved when the dental hygienist worked on my teeth for only 20 minutes without using any pain killer at all--and it didn't hurt at all! She the called in the dentist, who walked in, looked at my teeth for 30 seconds, declared she has never seen cleaner teeth, and walked out. i was confused, but SO relieved. A couple days later, I called my sister and asked her why she ad warned me this was going to be a long and painful process. When I told her it felt just like a normal regular cleaning that is usually free to me with my insurance, she said there is no way you got a deep cleaning if you got no novocaine yet experienced no pain, it was performed by the hygienist and not a dentist, and it only took 20 minutes. Then I called my brother, who has been a dentist in another state for more than 40 years and who has performed deep cleaning for periodantal disease countless times. He verified for me that I had certainly not gotten a deep cleaning. Then there is the matter of what I was charged for this phony procedure--they charged my credit cards over $1600 and billed my insurance another $1900. They tried to get about $3500 for a procedure that should cost a total of $1200- up to $1500 depending on the degree of the problem. i say "tried" b/c i have since called my credit cards and put a stop payment on them and filed a formal dispute. in addition, I called my insurance, who put a hold on paying them and is also conducting a fraud investigation. Next--I'm turning them into Medicare fraud and contacting the dental board for my state. People!! I see from Yelp that many have had the same experience that I did with Aspen, and for years judging by the dates on the complaints, but you didn't inform authorities! these people should not be in practice--and you should call out fraud or they won't be stopped. The icing on the cake for this episode--I called Aspen to inform them I was turning them in, and Devin at the front desk said "We worked on you for 4 hours". Astounding the depth and shamelessness of lying here. Please--even if this happened way in the past--call and complain to authorities. Went to Aspen Dental in Largo, Fl, in early 2023 to have a tooth extracted. They made a partial to fill the space of the missing front tooth. All was fine if I had used my better judgement and left the place. This is where the fraud begins and does not end until I left them in January 2024. $4,000 dollars worth of peridontal work and more to be scheduled in 2024. They charged $110 for each of 12 teeth they picked to be treated with Arestin(an antibiotic powder to kill all the decay in my gums). Never got the treatment because nothing was said about it and research says it has a bitter, metallic, taste. I never had a foul taste after the $1500 root planing and Arestin treatment. Thought I would leave the complaint alone until they started the new year out with the same plan. In May, you will come back for a root planing and more antibiotics. Like hell I will. Time to contact my insurance and run, not walk away from these crooks. I will file charges with the Florida Attorney General if they bill my insurance again. This is one of those reviews that you wish you could give 0 stars. My insurance only allows for these big chain dentists and I gave this place two different chances but they are horrible. I'm going to keep this review short by saying they did a terribly unprofessional job with my own visit, but they put me over the edge when they made an appointment for my 6 year old son, knowing they didn't have tools for children. They demanded they do x rays for him, I followed them to the exam room which the hygienist acted annoyed about, and then she shoved adult sized bite wings in his mouth. He started crying and saying it hurt. She held his face and said "no crying here." As you can imagine I told her to stop and hauled out of that place immediately. Well, We are new to the area and are looking for a dentist. Thinking a large organization such as Aspen may have a handle on things, I as my family's Guinea pig make an appointment. My wife has epilepsy whose seizures are stress related and her last one was of coarse at the dentist. So.... I go to my appointment and all seems well until I was informed I hadn't checked all the boxes necessary on my info sheet. This is not new for me, I miss a lot of stuff but being told by saying "Sir, you have to complete everything" with a tone kinda stung. Still not a big thing. Karl, the hygienist was nice and friendly, personable and very, very apologetic about all things uncomfortable(I don't get why no one has made that X-ray thing that goes in your mouth with ROUND corners yet). I don't recall ever having anyone move the X-ray thing, press the button I am holding, run out of the room and then run back 15 times to get the X-rays done. Poor Karl was sweating by the time he was done making me "bite down" on my square box in my mouth and apologizing for it each time then pushing and running out of the room over and over and over. Again Karl is super nice. Once the X-ray torture was over we moved to the room where Karl inspects everything and takes the measurements of my gums. This he did alone(never seen anyone do it alone) typically one person measures and another enters the measurements into the chart(computer) as they go. It's a lot of numbers ranging from 2 or 3 to 7, yes 7's. You have outside top, inside top, outside bottom and inside bottom between each tooth. That's 32 teeth X inside and out so 68 measurements top and 68 bottom total of about 120+ single digit numbers that Karl obviously memorized in the 2-1/2 minutes it took him to poke the little measure tool into my gum. He spoke to me for a several minutes about my 7's then as I watched the computer screen he entered my measurements, all 120ish, that he had memorized in 2-1/2 minutes 10 minutes ago. They went;3-3-4-3-3-4-3-3-4-5-5-4-5-5-4-7-7-5-7-7-5-4-4-5-4-4-5, see a pattern? I think maybe he didn't memorize all 120+ and he is making them up. AND I don't know if that's important or not. If they can just be generalized why do they enter them individually? So, Karl excuses himself very politely and says the dentist will be in shortly.........uh, not really. 10-15 go by and Karl very nicely and apologetically steps in to say the dentist was in with another patient and was being held up, it would be a few more min........uh, not really. 10-15 more go by and again Karl comes in to inform me (ever so politely)it was going to be 20-30 minutes longer and would I prefer to wait or reschedule? I choose to reschedule. I am escorted out of the room and seated at a desk to reschedule where a young lady with a $ sign tattooed on her middle finger starts asking me questions and "rescheduling" me. All rescheduled I decide to cancel my two daughters appointments for the following week and give myself an opportunity to discuss other options with my wife. I let the girl know I needed to cancel my daughters appointments and asked if she could do that as well and without a response turned to another young lady and said "he has questions about his kids" then got up and walked away. Kind awkward but, ok. The other girl finished me up. Didn't go back for my appointment. I did however get billed for a full visit even after never seeing the dentist. My husband needed his dentures re-ligned. Called and made an appointment. Arrived on time and was promptly taken care of. Dentist was excellent in explaining all the options. Scheduled his appointment for impressions, left the dentures at 9 am picked them up at 4 pm. Great service, nice helpful, polite staff. Would definitely recommend. read more

I first came to Aspen about 2 yrs ago my first appointment was very through and they were extremely kind and gentle I had one bad tooth that was removed that day an Dr did a great job I just didn't have the money or insurance to continue with my plan so now yet another bad toothache this one broke off about a year ago An now only root tips left to come out I was a little disappointed when I called to make an appointment on thrusday afternoon that they were already booked an no appointment til Monday An couldn't give me an antibiotic even til I was seen luckily my primary Dr did call me in some amoxicillin so now I couldn't go Monday until 5 pm my fault for being that late but then they couldn't verify my insurance so I still had to pay $64 for X-ray An to be told I needed it removed when I already knew this quite obviously an to remove it later this week will cost me 234 without insurance an no clue what it is with insurance because again they still can't verify it the office personal we're all nice an the hygienist or X-ray tech whichever she is was extremely nice an polite to me as was the Dr other than saying no it has to wait till another day cause we close in 5 minutes ok I get that but I had sat there a good 30 minutes waiting to be seen by him but ok no big deal I'll go back on Friday as I planned and get it removed and discuss more treatment from there depending on insurance for which I now have I just don't know what they cover or don't obviously cover because they still haven't called to say the verified my coverage an it will cost this amount now !! Just thought they might be a little more on the ball An verified my coverage an called me with a new price !! Do I'll update this once I go back for it to be extracted on 5/4/ update: I returned for my root tips extraction yesterday at first I was a bit upset because they said my appointment wasn't until the following Friday! Which made no since because I was there on Monday because I couldn't get in on Friday before an I had been in pain from infection but I will say the guy who checked me in went an talked to Dr and got me in I just had to wait about an hour longer which I didn't mind at that point because I just wanted it out then as I'd made arrangements for time off an weekend to heal once I got back an Novocain kicked in it literally took less than 5 minutes for Dr to extract it what a relief!! I still don't know about insurance yet I asked if they had verified it but no one ever got back to me when they said they'd look into it but I'm fine this morning it's healing up nicely already but I just finished my antibiotics yesterday evening at this point I'll be going back because the Dr is very gentle an kind as is the rest of the staff but I would like to know what my insurance is going to cover an not cover read more

I went in to have a veneer glued on which had fallen off. I had the veneer with me and only needed the fix to last for about 1.5 months until I returned to my out of state home.They insisted on X-rays. I had just gotten a full set at my home. The backed off that and just gave me X-rays of the one tooth. I still had to pay $187. Ok, at least it was fixed. About 2 weeks later it popped off again. I went in and they wanted $110 to glue it back on. They said there are no guarantees on other people's veneers. The dentist that glued it on originally said it should last years. I asked why they don't guarantee their glue. I didn't need the veneer guaranteed it was just fine! I chose to go elsewhere. read more

I went in for a routine 6 months cleaning. The hygienist refused to do a normal cleaning. I called aspen dental and asked for the regional manger,Stephanie,to give me a call. She did and I missed the call. I called back within 10 minutes with no response from Stephanie. I have called Aspen once per week for the last 3 weeks with no response from Aspen. This feels like a money grab and has all appearances of one. Subsequently my daughter went for a routine 6 month cleaning and was told she has 7 cavity's that need to be filled. She had no cavity's 6 months ago. I have asked Aspen for the last 2 years of x-rays to send to the insurance company for review. They have NOT complied even though they said they would. This dentist office in largo Florida has all the signs of a scam attempting to gain unnecessary funds from the patients along with the insurance company. Overzealous dentists and hygienists are unnecessary and proper dental care is what is necessary. read more

The only reason they were trying to give me the deep cleaning was because I was stupid enough to tell them I had a deep clean done over 25 years ago and I think they just saw dollar signs. WOW, This place was a joke from the beginning. First had some woman trying to stick a camera in my mouth with no regard to the fact that I gag. Finally somebody took that over. Told them the novacaine was making it difficult for me to breath There was an added ingredient, so I was told. Never had problems with Novacaine before. Scheduling mistakes over and over and over and over and over again. Can you be here earlier? Me, yes I can. Ok, Waited for two hours. Scheduled me for an appointment, had the card, they had no record of doing so. Three to four different dentists during the time I was going. Had a crown done, first step a filling, second step a temporary crown. It seemed like nobody there knew how to do a crown. Moe, Larry and Curley would have done a better job. Had a temporary crown put in and at the time told the dentist it didn't feel right. Sure enough next day it broke off in my mouth. Was told it happens???? Took forever to get the final crown. Had the same dentist try to put it in my mouth and said she had to send it back (4 weeks have gone by by now.) Another dentist came in and told her she was putting it in wrong. Oh and I forgot about the letters threatening to charge me fees if I didn't make a followup appointment. Nobody knew where they were coming from. Funny thing was, I was in the middle of getting my crown done at this time and had made appointments. Billing, ok paid my portion for the crown in September and overpaid my account. Was told by the manager, (who came from the home office) that I would be getting a refund of $149.50 and to expect it in about 2 weeks. Went back and was told I didn't have coverage when the procedure was done. I quit my job so that was true and understand the claim couldn't be made to the insurance company. But no call, no follow up and I was still waiting for my refund. WHAT A JOKE!!!! read more

I was very nervous about my first visit, considering I have never been before. Everyone made me feel comfortable from the minute I walked in, which helped my anxiety level quite a bit. Trusting people inside of my mouth is a big deal for me so it helped a lot knowing that the entire staff made sure I felt comfortable before taking the next step. read more
