One day I discovered Dr. Robert Yu. Read about him, I saw the picture, serious and calm man, and I thought to myself "This is the one". I have been going to him for few years, trying to fix the damage done by another doctor - Dr. Crawford. Yes, the one that had interview with the local TV, the one who after procedure have no time for you, and who's wife at the counter yelled at me for rescheduling an appointment. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Yu and his office girls. So gentle, so caring, so intelligent. Every year he is attending classes in EU to update his knowledge with the latest in dentistry. If you see his office, you will know that the equipment and the services he performs are different quality, from others. You don't feel the needle with anesthesia, implants are ceramic, one piece and much more. But the most important fact is:: He cares about the patient, he will not compromise for more expensive procedures, something many others do. And when the dentist cares more about money, the service you get won't be what you need and possibly create more problems. That is exactly what happens to me, and Dr. Yu has fixed everything. Knowing so many others, I am afraid to visit another dentist. Be very careful when you choose one. Your teeth are very serious business! Never write a review right after you had something done. The problem is treated, you feel good, but what happened after the anesthesia wear off? Always wait few months, at least. I made that mistake and many others have too. Then is not so easy to write a bad review for many people. It is not a happy experience, and some people don't care about others health being compromised.

This was shared, as I am a very documented anxious person, and I wanted to avoid a panic attack. However, he brought this up within the first two minutes of our visit, causing a panic attack. I'm not sure where the mishap occurred, but either he or his staff dropped the ball in providing extremely relevant case notes. Investing in orthodontic treatment is a pricy decision. In my opinion, he provided me false hope about our treatment options. Knowing he held all the power; I don't think it's right to provide me with hope for a future, that isn't possible. While I regret getting upset, I wish he would have warned me that he was going to deliver gut punching news, especially after making me feel that hope existed or at least be understanding as to why a negative reaction would occur. He wasn't. While I have to accept his decision to not work together, its sad to be that he could help me, but would rather see a person continue to suffer. While he may be a qualified dentist, he was pretty heartless to me.

I had a friend who worked here as a dental hygienist and she loved her job so much that she said I should shadow her. I did and starting liking dentistry. Dr. Kobernick hired me as a dental assistant for my day off from my other (lifeguarding) job. I was really just assisting an assistant who had just had wrist surgery. Dr. Kobernick is a helpful teacher and is a good boss. They did not have a full time dental assistant job opening for me, so I did not stay there long. I got a full-time dental assisting job and then went on to dental hygiene school. After I got my license in 2005, Dr Kobernick hired me as a dental hygienist! The dental assistant, Kimmer, was still there! She was more than an assistant though. That dental hygienist had moved away but Holly was there. I loved working in the room next to her. She loves her patients and they love her. While I was there, Holly was the Pinellas County Dental Hygienists' Association President. I had to cut back to only work part time when I had my first baby, so I am not still working there. But I still go back just to say hi every once in a while. They have such a great team. :-) There is absolutely no staff turnover. Right when I started, I was so impressed that at our morning huddle, Dr Kobernick knew the special wants and request of each patient. He knows all of the patients by name and is so personable so professional. He and his team know how to have fun at work while keeping the quality excellent. Dr Kobernick did my crown lengthening procedure. I needed it on all of my top teeth. He had an opening the day before Thanksgiving because normal people would not think to schedule a surgery on their mouth before an eating holiday. I was nervous myself, but I ate and ate too much like usual! I seriously tell people to get it done by him! My only regret is that I wish I had done the procedure before my wedding pictures! There was nothing to fear! Also of note: they send out funny holiday cards each year. I love holiday cards especially when they are creative. I think it says a lot for a business when the boss listens to the employees and actually implements their crazy ideas. They had a guessing game for when my (first) baby would be born. Patients liked being involved. The office works as a team without gossip. Well I'm sure there's some:) Instead of their St. Pete office being in one of the tall buildings downtown, they have a beautiful new office on 4th Street. So go to Dr. K and tell them I say hi!

He seemed to get irritated if you take too much of his time or ask too many questions. I had to ask for the antibiotics after the gum surgery, and he gave me the prescription as a photocopy, rather than the original receipt, which I have never seen any doctor's office do. Neither he nor his staff ever called to check back on me to see how I was doing, even though I have serious medical issues. I researched his records online, and found he has some criminal records, which I did not discover until after I had the bone graft. When I tried to call for a checkup after the 4 month healing period, their phones were blocking my calls. I tried to reach them for 2 weeks by asking someone to go by there and tell them I was trying to reach them, and they claimed they were having problems with their phones. What doctor's office leaves their phones out of service for 2 weeks, and does not answer calls from their patients? I won't be back there. I would carefully consider being careful to not put my care into any dentist who conducts his practice in such a cold, calculating manner as that. I do not recommend this doctor.
