I was told all of my visits would be covered by my insurance, except for $82. I borrowed money to pay the $82 so I could have the work done. They say they all about saying "Yes" and that they will do everything they can to make you denture fit properly. Well it's not true. I was told that for a re-fit I could just come in. It 7:30am no one is in the office because I am seating in the parking lot and they telling me that they only have to Lab technicians and to make an appointment for a 15 minute procedure? My husband and I went for dental service and the first few visits were fine but once we started treatment attitudes changed. While sitting in a chair to be serviced I even heard the Dr and his assistant talking about the condition of my teeth when I arrived ! I received a text asking me to confirm my appointment. I clicked the confirmation and I received a "your appointment was confirmed". I was having a severe, painful problem. I was told I would receive a refund within 5-10 days. Well, that was in September and it is now January. I've called corporate and again, left several messages, no call back. Please save your money and save yourself pain and heartache and avoid this place. I came for an implant extraction, and the oral surgeon that performed my operation was an absolute butcher. He heavily drugged me and used excessive force when removing my implant. The procedure itself was traumatic and I bled the rest of the day. They were supposed to give me a prescription for pain medication and they never called the pharmacy to allow the prescription to be filled, so I went an entire weekend without pain medication. Fast forward to a few days later when my incision did not heal properly and I got an infection. I called the office for days and could not reach anyone. I finally got ahold of someone and tried to make an appointment. I went to my appointment and the dentist refused to see me or give me any prescription for the infection. I asked the receptionist what I should do and she said she didn't know and basically didn't care. I now need to try and get my money back since I need to pay another dentist a fortune to fix what this place has done. Totally unprofessional and the worst treatment I have ever received. The receptionist failed to communicate, the dentist, Mr. Gutterman was VERY disrespectful, nasty and refused to assist me with my concerns and told me I could go elsewhere to find services. I scheduled an appointment to take care of a cap that broke. They took a bunch of xrays of my whole mouth, had a dental hygienist come in, measured the spaces between my teeth. Wanted to schedule an appointment to clean my teeth over $ 400.00 out of my pocket after insurance ( standard procedure they said!) and do a scan for mouth cancer. More money out of pocket I'm sure. Then the dentist came in and said he wasn't going to fix it. He said it might go back in on its own. If not he could do implant for over $4000.00 out of my pocket of course or do a bridge for 2 or 3 thousand dollars. Scam scam scam. They will milk your money and insurance for what they can get. I set up an appointment for my husband for a cleaning and x-rays. He was a new patient. We just moved here to Indiana. He sat in the lobby for 30+ plus minutes before they called him back. Then he sat for more time before the dentist even came in for the exam. They took x-rays and was told he would need to come back for a cleaning once they got a hold of his insurance. Not sure as to why they would take x-rays and why they didn't call his insurance before his appointment to make sure he was eligible. He was told they would call him the following day once they got his eligibility from his insurance. They never called him and honestly I will not be calling them for him to go back. Horrible and money hungry! I came in today for my FREE cleaning which every dentist gives twice a year. The receptionist told me my total was 175$ for some X Rays and Fluoride treatments that I didn't not authorize, ask for, or expect to pay upon my visit. I told her I did not want them and she responded with "you have to get them to get the free cleaning" well does that sound free to you? If I can give them no stars I would. They are the worst. I should have done more research on them and I guess that's on me. I was in search for a new dentist and found them online. On my first appointment they did the X-rays and told me I have 3 filings that needed to be done. They also told me I needed a deep cleaning because my gums are bleeding and of course my insurance only covers regular cleaning. On all three of my visits, I heard them say the same thing to most of the patients. They also told me to speak to the manager about my expenses and my insurance coverage. She told me I had to pay $ 350 and that was it. They did the fillings and now my teeth hurt and they didn't before. I went back to complain about this once, but they didn't do anything. Now I've received a bill for another $ 350. Don't go there they don't care about you. They will make up all kinds of charges just to take your money. read more

If I could give a O star rating I would. DO NOT GO HERE. My son in law presented with tooth pain and was told they would not perform / refer him for a needed orthodontist procedure until they performed a deep cleaning. He had the deep cleaning which left him in a considerable amount of increased pain. As his jaw enlarged and the pain became unbearable at times a 9 out of 10 he tried multiple times to speak to a dentist or be seen. His phone calls went unanswered by this office. He was told to leave messages that where never returned and eventually told by the assistant "they don't treat pain". It is a patients right to pain management. If you caused the problem or exacerbated it you are required to at least give a reasonable solution or alternative to care. This is a 23 year old who works 50 hours a week while raising his 18 month old son. Your office left him unable to function in his job. Unable to sleep and in complete misery. His jaw is continuing to swell since your deep cleaning and you have left him with no recourse other then to go to an emergency room. More bills he does not need. This is deplorable treatment and I believe it falls outside of the federally enforced patient bill of rights. Do not go here! read more

I am not usually one to write reviews, but my experience with Aspen Dental was bad enough to make me write one. On 6/19/14, I called Aspen Dental in Merrillville, IN, to make an appointment. I was having horrible pain due to my wisdom teeth and I was very happy when the woman on the phone told me she could get me in the next day. I gave her all of my information, including my insurance information. She explained that she was getting me an "Emergency Appointment" so to save some time I should print out all of the paperwork at home, fill them out, and bring them with to my appointment. I did as she said and I was prepared to see the dentist on 6/20/14. Unfortunately, on 6/20/14, I received a call from Aspen Dental less than an hour before my appointment was scheduled. A woman explained that she was not sure why I was scheduled on Friday since the office was not even open. She also, very rudely, explained that the oral surgeon that I would need to see for my wisdom teeth would not be able to see me for over a month. This was a complete waste of time for me, especially for the amount of pain I was in at the time. If I would have been told Aspen Dental in Merrillville was not open on Friday, I would have been able to schedule a different appointment sooner. read more

I have now been to this Aspen location 4 times and they are on their A game. I have been to quite a few dentists over the years and Dr. Soo Sim is far and above the best of them all that I have had. I even travel the extra mile to see her. I feel pricing is fair and they are up front about future visits if additional work needs to be done. read more

I went in with a specific issue and ended up with a full assessment of my mouth, dealing with several issues, except the one I went in with. I was given a huge price list and was treated like I was buying Windows for my home. I decided to go back to my regular dentist who corrected my issue quickly and without question Aspen dental is like the jiffy line of dentists that want to oversell you everything at once. I have gone to this office for years and had few problems. But, in the last year that has changed. The dental staff I have few problems with, but the office staff is a different story. They can be lazy, rude, and in one instant abusive. Also, on two separate occasions I have caught them trying to trick me into paying for services scheduled nine months in advance. When I ask for a break down on why my services fee as so high for the day and requesting a break down of the charges, they got very rude. Upon finding the early charges and demanding that they be removed the staffer would get rude with me. On more than one occasion, they have screwed up properly filing my insurance paper and demand that I pay hundreds of dollars in services that is covered by my insurance plan. They refuse to fix this paperwork problem, claiming its not their responsibility. If you value yourselves and your money, I suggest seeking service elsewhere. But, if you choose to risk it, I hope your wise enough to demand complete break downs of all your charges. read more

I arrived 20 min early and after finishing my paperwork that barely took 5 min no one said anything else. An hour after my appt time I finally get called back only to find out the appt would take at least another hour. I had been putting going to the dentist off for almost a year. I originally only needed a root canal, but since I waited so long and with the expensive cost of trying to save the tooth I went to the dentist knowing I wanted an extraction. I went to the Aspen dental in Alton, IL. first. I was given a check up by an oral hygienist and seen by the dentist. The staff were super friendly and the prices were really good. The cleaning treatment costed more than the extraction and filling together. I knew I needed the treatment though since my gums were in such bad shape. I was in Alton on business and came home toMerrillville, IN. complete the treatment that was recommended by the Alton office. I was quoted a price for my extraction that was higher. The financial guy actually corrected the problem for me and honored the price from the other office. The offices are really clean and nice and there is a tv on the chair your in. They worked to make sure I could get as much of my treatment done in one appointment as possible. The hygienist was really good about explaining why I needed the treatment how the medicine worked and how my gums are supposed to look and feel. The dentist made sure I was numb ( I had a bad experience which is why I had waited so long to go to the dentist in the first place.) All in all the filling and extraction went great. The only problem is that the after hours emergency care sucks. I got my extraction on a friday morning had concerns that night and NO ONE EVER CALLED ME BACK TO MAKE SURE i WAS OK. I can call in the morning of course, but what if it was something serious that I didn't want to go to the ER for. Otherwise I'm a super happy customer. read more

I cannot rate by stars because there are no negatives!! I strongly urge anyone considering going here to NOT!!! I felt like I was at a used car lot being swarmed by pushy sales people. My children and I were ushered from room to room, from this person to the next. Waited for awhile as well. When the exam was finally done I was told I would need to schedule another appointment to get my teeth cleaned. I was then ushered to an office room, where I was told how lucky I was to have such great insurance. They gave me an estimate of $5000.00 worth of dental work I needed to have done. My cost would only be $1500.00 though. I was told I needed 2 root canals,had 4 cavities, and gum disease. I would need invasive cleaning after regular cleaning. I figured I would have to do these things one at a time, because I did not have the funds. I scheduled to have 1 filling done and a cleaning. They did one filling and would not do the cleaning. I contacted my insurance and found another dentist. After 6 more months I was able to get an appointment. I was told I had 1 cavity, I did not need any root canals, and my gums look perfect. What a miracle!! Unless you have endless funds and enjoy having unnecessary, painful dental treatments done-STAY AWAY!! read more

My family and I were looking for a new dentist & when we found aspen dental & I had my first apt with Dr. Sim I was happy. I explained that we had a new born baby & my wife needed a cleaning but couldn't have xrays because she was breastfeeding & they said, it wouldn't be a problem & set we up the appointment. When they called to confirm the appointment they said that my wife couldn't have a cleaning without having xrays first. I was very confused & explained that my wife was breastfeeding & couldn't do the xrays. I was then told by the office manager that they person that I set the appointment up with & told them about the breastfeeding didn't know what they were doing. She told me "it was not her problem & that is was Aspen dentals policy ". She told me that my wife would have to do, xrays, then a consultation with Dr. SIM, to talk about what they found in the xrays. Then on the 3rd appointment she could have her teeth cleaned. Sounds like they are trying to get more billing opportunities. This was never explained to us when we set up the first appointment 2 week ago. THE OFFICE MANAGER WAS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Dr. Sim needs to consider getting new office staff or make sure they go over all the policies with all the staff, especially those making the appointments. I had a fantastic experience with the Aspen Dental in Merrillville Indiana! When I addressed that I had excruciating tooth pain I was treated almost immediately and professionally. I was given different options of treatment but opted to have the tooth extracted. The dental team treated me with compassion and their focus was on getting me comfortable as fast as they could. Within 10 minutes of being in the chair, I was pain free! I would like to thank Dr. Sim and her assistant Kaylan for being so gentle, fast and compassionate. I left pain free and very happy! Thanks to the outstanding staff who made this a wonderful experience. I highly recommend the Merrillville Aspen Dental. I am confident that I will be a life long patient of this clinic! read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Definitely ripped off. I canceled my remaining appointments because they made me uncomfortable. I felt rushed through. I went through the the gingivitis treatment, 2 cavities filled and then they put me through Zoom whitening before I had my other 4 cavities filled. I also was suppose to get 6 wisdom teeth out as well. The whitening got all over my gums (which were already inflamed, swollen and red from Gingervitis). I sat in some of the worse pain I've ever felt for a half hour. (She told me Zoom goes up to an hour). I laid in bed all day because it was terrible. If you decide to go there make sure you get a print out of what they're charging you because they threw in a $130 toothbrush and I didn't realize til after I opened and used it.
