I've had bottom snap-in dentures (2 implants) for two years. My O-rings have to be replaced every 9-12 months. It usually costs about $125. I tried to make an appointment to get them replaced and was told that "corporate changed the billing code" and it would now cost $936 and insurance covers none of it. I can't go elsewhere or it voids the warranty. How do you justify charging almost $1,000 when it was $125 just a year ago? Over a 650% increase for a part that is less than $2 and a procedure that takes less than 5 minutes. Aspen, you should be ashamed. read more

Aspen dental is NOT very customer/patient friendly. Every experience with them was talking bad about my prior dental care. And I literally had the best dentist in PA. When my husband was seen they upsold a $2500 massive deep cleaning. When I went in they did the same to me. I use floss and a sonic toothbrush trust me when I say I don't need a deep cleaning. The hygienist wouldn't even do a regular dental cleaning because he recommended the deep cleaning I declined. I am looking for another dentist who doesn't try to upsell my dentistry and will actually care about my dental care. read more

Aspen Dental at Hilltop/First Colonial Rd is very miss leading. I was seeing them last year & they took my insurance at this time. The first of the year I gave them my new insurance card & asked if they took my new insurance. I called to make sure they took my new insurance & was told yes. I made my appointment for my teeth cleaning & molds for my caps. I was told I had to $96 due at the time of my next appointment. When I got there I paid my payment & asked if my insurance is covering the rest. I was told yes. Come to find out 3 months later I got a bill for over $3000. It was for my caps, plus I found out they didn't take my insurance. If I had known this I wouldn't of had my caps done at the time. I'm on a fixed income. I'm a widow & have to budget my money. PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF GOING TO THEM. THEY ARE NOT HONEST ABOUT THEIR BILLING. WHETHER THEY TAKE YOUR NEW INSURANCE OR NOT. Worst experience ever. VERY expensive. You think you are getting good service and quality. Dentist and hygienist are very nice. The problem is when you get to the billing. They over charged me 980 and just left it in the account. I happened to call for a different situation and that is when I found out. If you don't call you never know. They tell you it can take up to a year for your gums to fully heal. HOWEVER you are only allowed 3 adjustments free. After that you have to pay. They say most insurances pay this but not all. They charge 270 for a 3 minute process. If you have fit problems and have to go back multiple times then you will be paying a whole lot more. After you pay over 17000 you expect a little more service. Stick with Affordable Dentures. read more

After about 15+ yrs with my old dentist I found Aspen Dental thru Medicare. My first appt I saw Dr Pella and shared my concerns; I wanted the top teeth extracted, something my old dentist refused to do. After X-rays etc Dr Pella and I spoke and I was told he could /would extract the tops but recommended keeping the lowers. When I scheduled the appointment, I was told that the other dentist would do the extractions. I was not happy with that, did not understand why that happened and asked that Dr. Pella do the extraction as he is my Dentist now. And so it was done. A deep cleaning was recommend for the lowers and the appt was made for the extractions. My appt was at 7 am, I was completely numbed by approx 7:10 and I walked out of the office at 7:25 am with my temporary in place! I was given some pain meds if I needed but I only felt some minor discomfort the next day. Wow, Not what I had anticipated! A painless journey! I've completed almost all of my follow ups and very soon I will have the permanent denture. I cannot express how happy I am with the decision that was made. It's been a very long time since I've been happy with my smile. Thank you to the entire staff that assisted me step-by-step. And thank you Dr Pella for giving me a beautiful smile. read more

Actually zero stars, worst dental experience of my life. Went in as a first time patient for a check up and cleaning. I was two months behind. Was informed after waiting my cleaning would cost $3500 as I needed a deep cleaning and an antibiotic in EVERY GUM! I have had deep cleans before so I accepted that but $2500 worth of antibiotic treatments, what a joke then discovered they would not even provide a deep clean. We wonder what has happened to medical care in this country, this is a perfect example of up selling for corportate profits! I called the corporate number and told the lady it's real hard for me to get off of work and could I book my first dental appointment /exam with a dental hygienist appointment to follow. The corporate lady told me that I need to call the local office to schedule the cleaning but she could book my first dental exam only. I called the Virginia Beach office and they said that the first exam has to be done before the cleaning. She said if the hygienist is available after your exam then we can clean your teeth that day. I asked can I just book a hygienist appointment to follow the exam on the same day. The local office said no, I can only get a cleaning if the hygienist is available and I can't book a cleaning the same day as an exam. I called back to the corporate number to cancel my first dental exam and the corporate lady told me I had to call the local office to cancel my dental exam appointment. I told the corporate lady fine, I'm not going to show up. I'm done trying to work with this company you can notify the local office if you feel so inclined... I've wasted enough of my time. It is frustrating to me to have to wait in a waiting room twice, spend money on gas twice and miss my wages on work twice. If this is how they treat patients before they set foot in the door no thank you. Ironically enough this dentist office posts walking welcome. I know it was two yrs ago but Aspen Dental at this address did my dentures two yrs ago and they did an excellent job. I have had many compliments from other dentists. Last one said "Oh they are beautiful". I have to go where my dental ins. is so I won't be back until the insurance changes. The Drs. were excellent AND the technicians gave quality care.. Called to make an appointment for my son for a cleaning and exam and clearly noted it would be a first time visit. They assured me that was no problem and scheduled the appointment. Received a call from them to confirm and I reiterated what he needed when they asked, again was told no problem. When he got there on the day of his appointment, all they would do is take X-rays and provided no other treatments. They did however try to upsell him on teeth aligners. I find it unprofessional and unacceptable to state multiple times that you were scheduled for what you needed then NOT provide that service. Will not return to any Aspen Dental office. Edited following Aspen's response -- Aspen failed to address the issue. I made an appointment for a cleaning AND exam, that is what I WAS TOLD that I was getting. Their customer service team who scheduled it and the individual who called to discuss and confirm the appointment both FAILED to inform me that it was not their policy and in fact did just the opposite, they both said it was no issue and confirmed the appointment that way. Had I been made aware of the policy I would not have scheduled an appointment here in the first place. Further, I'm now receiving emails from them talking about scheduling appointments for Dental Implants as discussed at the visit - My son doesn't need implants, never did, and this wasn't even discussed. Bottom Line -- This business essentially took our insurance benefits for their profit without properly communicating with me. Because I refuse to support a business that doesn't live up to their promises, I'll have to start over elsewhere and pay out of pocket. Hours are convenient to those working 9-5. Had a 7am appointment and they opened right on time, fully operating. I love how upbeat and lively everyone is on top of a lot of staff to make sure various customers are taken care of at the same time. Bonus: They have a tv in the patient room! Everyone was straight to the point and as a new patient, everything only took about an hour to complete. Things were explained thoroughly with paperwork attached. Hopefully this my be my new permanent dentist since moving into the area. Fingers crossed! read more

I've got to say that my dental experience was pleasant and I'm not a fan of going to the dentist. Being a new patient I got a free X-ray and exam. I was shocked to hear my results. I have been back twice and I'm very sensitive with pain and the Dr. and his assistant Shay assured me by giving me more numbing shots. Went in for painful tooth ache and end up with a bill for 6000 + if I let them treat me for gingivitis Take advantage of the free X-ray. I could have bought an excellent used vehi cle for what they were trying to charge me if I paid to have them clean my teeth . I went to Aspen Dental because it was a convenient location and it was in network with my insurance. They did more x-rays than ever and went over my options. I decided on 2 extractions and a deep cleaning and was told my part after insurance would be 5412.00. I thought this was a bit extreme so opted for a deep cleaning and then contact my insurance to verify pricing. They agreed and told me the deep cleaning was not preventative therefore not covered and the cleaning would cost me 1542.00. I obviously left. Contacted my insurance and they do cover cleanings. I suggest not coming to this dentist office. Instead of a professional environment, I felt like I was a practice session for a group of brand new college students. Every one in the office was extremely friendly, but unfortunately that isn't enough when in a medical profession. The hygienist who was delegated to polish my teeth and apply a fluoride varnish was clueless as to where any of the tools were, or how to use them. The other hygienist told me she was new to their office. Totally fine, but why was she on her own and not shadowing someone until she was familiar? Combine this with the facts that my entire face of makeup was rubbed off on my way to work (an issue I have never once had at another office), I left with sticky blue stuff all over my face, the "brand new" hygienist forgot to put fluoride on the back of my teeth, she didn't know the instructions for after the fluoride application, and the receptionist didn't know when my cleaning should be re-scheduled - I won't be back. I will end saying this experience was not the fault of any of the girls I encountered today, and hope their management team sees this and puts a higher importance on proper training. read more

The office at town center in Virginia Beach, isn't worth it. They called my wife to change her appt, left a voice mail. She called back 3 times left messages to call her. No one returned her call. I went today personally to find out what was going on. They cancelled the next appt. When I got home she said that one wouldn't work and called . I had just left, they aren't answering the phone. The girl sits there doing nothing, told me they are short handed. She is the receptionist not a dental tech, so she can't answer phones. read more

I've got a broken tooth, painful and making it hard to eat. Went to the office at Hilltop. They took my insurance card, and did two sets of x-rays. A pan and bitewings. The hygienist says the lower teeth need a good cleaning, and dentist says the entire upper row of teeth need to be extracted. Turns out I have more than one broken tooth. I left, thinking someone would call me to schedule the appt., but nobody said anything and I didn't get a call. I left my insurance card there, so went to go pick it up. I asked about it, and was told that I had to come up with more than $600 (probably closer to $700) out of my pocket that insurance won't pay for the cleaning. I went in for the broken tooth, not a cleaning. It is starting to abscess, and it is painful to eat. They won't take care of it until my lower teeth are cleaned??? !!!! What does that have to do with my broken tooth that is causing me pain? I also had asked if I could go to the one at the Town Center, and was told that I would have to have another exam all over again and they were more expensive. How is it that they all say ASPEN DENTAL, yet one office is more expensive than the others? And how is it that they won't take another one of their dentist's recommendation????? I am on a fixed income and no way can I just hand over hundreds of dollars. That is why I got a dental plan. Now I have to find another dentist who WILL do the emergency work on my tooth without having to pay for a cleaning first! Unsatisfactory!!! read more

Terrible customer service. I verified with my insurance that they were in network; they called and told me that they are not in network. I also don't know which insurance number they called to verify my insurance coverage was in network with them since I called my insurance again right after and got a different answer. Just got my first set of dentures. Was first day for the location and was treated exceptionally. From Ramoni at the front desk, and Ashley and Kennedy as my Dental Assistants. Dr Phaup was awesome and asked if I was ok a lot! I appreciated that! Tyler was the office manager and I forget the young man who does the money part, was great too. Aspen Dental absolutely is a bit sketchy! I have two insurance plans that covers my services 100%. I went in for treatment and was told that I needed to pay out of pocket. I told the office manager and the girl at the front desk that I had coverage and should not have to pay anything upfront. They insisted that if I wanted to be seen I had to pay. Reluctantly, I did. I told them that I would be expecting a refund of my out of pocket costs! They assured me that once my insurance processed the claim a refund would be issued. It has now been 8 months and I'm out my money! They received payment in full from my insurance company, as well as me! I went in to speak with the office manager today and basically she said that they had a system crash and and all information was lost. That corporate is trying to recover the data. I said wait..that is not my problem. You all have been paid twice for the services. A refund should have been issued immediately upon receipt of the second payment from my Insurance company! She said sorry, can't help you. So basically I am out the money that I paid them, Aspen collected twice and is a ripoff!!!! Steer clear unless you want to get screwed! read more

well my appointment for the first time @ aspen dental , was alright , was very off , but it was ok , the billing lady was very unprofessional always bringing up extra money prices , that was not very acceptable in my eyes , then I was supposed too get my wisdom teeth taken out by the doctor that was there @ the time , he seemed like he , had an attitude , because , I could not bare with the pressure , that I was feeling , so I did make an appointment with the periodontist , in February then I could not make that one , then it got rescheduled for may but the periodontist , had a family emergency , so my appointment got scheduled for today , it was @10:30am this morning , I came before that time , so I was told I would be sedated from the billing lady & whoever else , but I was not sedated ,not enough laughing gas too keep me calm , no Anesthesia too keep me calm , I was numbed with a needle before , my wisdom teeth were going too be pulled out , but then I felt more of the pressure & I could not go on with the unbearable pressure pain , I had too stop the procedure of me getting my top wisdom teeth pulled out , because the pain & pressure was very bad , I will never ever in my life go back too aspen dental @ all , I will not request anyone too go here , all they want is your money & not make you feel comfortable , just give you tough love , even when you tell them , you have very bad anxiety .. read more

Paid over 3,000.00 for an upper denture plate, and does not fit at all one tooth sticking out in front very uncomfortable. All they cared about was there money, refused to fix there error now Im stuck with an upper partial plate I cant even wear. And come to find out they have a class action lawsuit against them filed in New York. Do not go here will just be wasting your money. read more

Everyone was super nice.... HOWEVER... No one seems to know what they are doing! It took over 30 minutes to get X-rays and the lady didn't know how to use any of the equipment or tools needed or how to place them in my mouth to get effective pictures. Then sat in the exam room for over 40 minutes waiting to be seen for an oral exam (so i could schedule a cleaning). Finally a lady came it and scraped my gums and said she was concerned and needed to get the dr. Dr finally comes in and says everything is fine :-/ Everyone I encountered seemed new or lost. I went in here for a routine check-up and cleaning. I got there for a 7am appointment and didn't leave until 9am and I never got to see the doctor. The x-rays part was routine and then someone came into do a '3-D Scan' of my teeth. This is a thinly veiled up-sell, they are pretending to 'educate' patients when they mean, 'up-sell Invisalign.' This irritated me, this was a waste of my time, this is generally not part of a routine check-up. After that, I waited, and waited and waited some more to hopefully get my teeth cleaned and get on with my day. Then, all of a sudden, a guy named Matt barges in and tells me I have to call my insurance company and let them know this is my dentist office so they can continue with the appointment. And then takes a moment to introduce himself AFTER telling me I need to do something in order to get my teeth cleaned. I was stunned. I asked why I hadn't been told earlier about this and was informed that the insurance company didn't open until 8am. It was 8:45am. I waited without information for nearly an hour and I didn't see the doctor OR get my teeth cleaned. Apparently at this place, you also can't get your teeth cleaned on your first appointment. In general, when you visit a regular dentist, they can do x-rays and a cleaning in the same day and discuss whatever else you may need to have a healthy mouth. In a regular dentist office, they take care of patients without fear-mongering to get you to buy Invisalign. Don't go here. Establish a relationship with a local dentist office and get everything in one trip. Don't buy into what this place is selling. read more

This location needs to look at their custom service plan, idea, or what ever. The people are nice, but if you say you are going call then call. It's one thing to wait 10 even 15 min for your appointment after you check in on time of earlier but to wait 45 min after your appointment is unacceptable..... Have to be seen twice to fix a problem again unacceptable. The best part is I waited for 45 minutes just pick up a tray and that was it, I had to to work so I left empty handed what a waste of time. So i was in an extreme amount of pain this morning looking all over for someone to take me in and get it checked out . Not only did i get an appointment but i got my tooth in question extracted all within hours of making the appointment. Destiny and Dr Phaup were absolutely amazing. Never in my life have I come away from a regular dental cleaning with my mouth in so much pain. But that's not even the whole problem. Okay, so as a first-time patient, you have to have an initial exam with them, before you can get just a normal cleaning. No big deal, I was able to schedule an appointment for after work one day, since they're open until 7 on Thursdays. My appointment is at 5:45, and I arrive about 10 minutes early. I then sit in the waiting room until about 6:00 before being taken back for X-Rays. Now, I've never had an X-Ray done with the hard plastic blocks they put in your mouth, so that was a new experience, and very uncomfortable. Not really their fault, as I have a small mouth. The block even cut my mouth at one point, and didn't heal for about a week and a half, but again, not really their fault, just annoying. After X-Rays, I was taken to a cleaning room to await the dentist and the hygienist, as they were going to go over what I may need besides a basic cleaning. So I sat and waited. And waited. Eventually the dentist came in, took a quick look at my X-Rays, said I didn't have any cavities, and that was pretty much it. I then waited some more. And some more. The hygienist finally comes in, takes a quick look in my mouth, and says I'm like the easiest patient they've ever seen. My "dental plan" is just to get normal cleanings every six months, which I have done my entire life (I'm almost 27). So then I get to wait for the, I guess, "money guy", the one who goes over the plan, looks at your insurance, and tells you how much it'll be. And you guessed it, I waited. Finally, at 7:05, I walked out of there with my actual cleaning scheduled for 2 weeks later. The total amount of time I spent with actual people was maybe 15 minutes. The rest was waiting. Fast forward 2 weeks. I show up to my 6:00 Thursday appointment at 5:45. And this time I don't have to wait so long, which is nice. They actually got me back there a few minutes before my appointment time. So I go back there, and there's these two hygienists in there, I guess one is learning how to do the teeth brushing with the machine, so she observes. The first girl cleans my bottom teeth with the automatic tooth brush, even going around a second time to be thorough, which was a nice plus. Then the other girl takes over. They're joking around the entire time, laughing about how they're making such a mess (some toothpaste even got onto my shoulder). At one point, the girl goes "Oh no, I made her gums bleed! I'm sorry!" Honestly, I didn't feel it at that point, so it was whatever. But then as she continues, the other girl goes "Now you're making all her teeth bleed" and laughs. I don't know if she was joking that the girl was spreading my blood around from the first time, or if she was really making the rest of my gums bleed. I just found it really unprofessional to be laughing at your patient. Now, as they were brushing my teeth, I didn't feel any pain. But once they were done, my teeth (and jaw, from having it forced open for so long) were super sore and sensitive. Then a third hygienist comes in to do the scraping of the plaque from my teeth, while the other two leave. And she jabs and pokes at my teeth and gums, and I've never had it hurt so much. I don't know if it was because of the other two making my teeth sensitive for a bit, or if this girl was just extra rough, but I was about in tears, finally flinching at one point, but she didn't let up (although she apologized that one time). Now remember, they told me at my initial visit that I was super easy, and I have always gone to the dentist for a normal cleaning every 6 months. Never has it hurt so badly. I was going to mention it to the dentist when she came in, but guess who never even came in? I guess the one quick look she took 2 weeks ago was all I was going to see of her. And finally, at the end of my appointment, I had to get a mold done for a new retainer. A guy comes in, puts the thing in my mouth, and I have to sit there for 5 minutes as it sets, with my mouth wide open, and one of the first hygienist's fingers holding it in place. I'm sitting there gagging and trying not to choke on my spit, while she jokes with her friend, the second hygienist. No suction to help me out, just asking me every once in a while if I'm okay, and them complaining about having to hold it in place, even switching places at one point. I finally get to leave, even taking an Advil when I got to my car, crying on my way home. I told my husband everything, and he called them to complain, and whoever he spoke with was very apologetic. The dentist even called him later to ask what had happened, and apologized. Now, the reason I didn't call is because I hate confrontation, and hate even more talking on the phone. I only wanted them to know what happened so that they could fix the problems, not to get anything in return. But I will never be back there. read more

The office staff was nice. The work they did on my teeth was great. I paid my copays and expected that to be the end. My copays where reflective of what i was suppose to have done. I paid for four silver fillings which was covered by my insurance. They went ahead and did silver for one tooth and they went ahead and did composite fillings for the other three. I was unaware of what they had done until i received the bill. They went ahead with the more expensive fillings for my three teeth without telling me. My copay was121.00 dollars and now iam left with a bill for 616.00 dollars. I hope who ever is considering going to them try a different dentist . read more
