Be aware that they don't clean your teeth on the first visit and they don't tell you until you get there. They we're running very late and didn't apologize until I called them out on it. the office manager is very nice, but that is the only good thing about this place. read more

I had an appointment (April 15th), which was scheduled six months prior. They call me the day of my appointment to say it needed to be rescheduled but gave no reason. The appointment had been set for six months! Then I got a nasty attitude and transferred to someone else to schedule another appointment. That was for today, May 8th at 5 p.m. I have attached two emails showing the time of the appointment. In the past three days I have been receiving emails and texts saying my appointment is at 4:15 but I never changed a thing, nor did I speak to anyone about a change. I spoke to someone today who said I could come then but I'd have to wait because there was someone with an appointment at that time. I refuse to come in now, as this makes no sense. *I* had the appointment at 5. I have shown you proof. Yet this is now a month of run-arounds with the office over an appointment which was set now 7 months prior.   This is unacceptable. It's not the first time I've had an issue, but this is twice in a month someone is just blatantly screwing up in the office. I hope this is fixed at some point, as I really don't want to visit this office ever again. read more

Horrible experience. I went here only once and after the unbelievably unprofessional staff, I won't be back. First it took over 20 minutes to get X rays of my mouth cuz the woman couldn't get it to work. I went with a tooth issue and the dentist didn't even help with it. He said just take ibuprofen and that I have all these other crazy expensive things to do, which I know I don't have to do right now. (Thank god for friends who work in dentistry) For what it's worth, go to a different dentist cuz this place is terrible. All they do is try to upsell you and give you very poor service. read more

Set appointment over the phone to have a root canal, as their endodontist specialist will be available today. When I arrived, they ran up with x-rays which was not needed as I already have referral x-ray. After the endodontist check my tooth said I must wait couple of weeks as she is busy today & surgeon only here 1 day per month. These people are crooks, stay away. Not dentist more like a bad trip to a used car lot. I did not listen to other people as many people said do not go there but unfortunately due to my tooth pain I went there. Even the endodontist does not want to give me painkiller or antibiotics to control my pain. They did nothing!! I will do the root canal from other place and rough quote was $1700. I have two upper dentures that were made. The first one was very sturdy and it accommodated a lower molder that was growing crooked to the bite of the denture. One side of that denture the teeth were longer than the other side, so it looks crooked on the smile. At the beginning that particular denture was giving me headaches because it was misaligning my jaw or something within the denture was causing it. I had already finished paying for that denture. However, it was suggested by the dentist to have a new denture made to solve the headache caused by the old denture. Now I had to pay for a new set of dentures. Within the new dentures, all the teeth were aligned perfectly and my smile was a perfect picture. However, that denture's structural strength and design was weak and did not adequately provide a space large enough to accommodate for the crooked molder's bite into that side of the denture. On that side of the denture where the crooked molder sat, that denture cracked several times and was repaired several times. Since this kept on happening which made that denture useless, it was recommended by the dentist to perform a root canal and cut the molder to fit a crown on it, so my bite on the new denture on that side would not crack the new denture again. The cost kept on mounting along with their findings of additional cavities. The second denture was not made sufficiently enough to accommodate that crooked molder, like the first one. So I now have to pay for a root canal and crown on that molder, so I can use the second dentures which frankly are weaker in structure than the first dentures. I am now having to use my first denture, as I have to be very careful about not eating anything hard on the side of the molder. I have paid for two dentures and I can only use the first so I can eat. The second set is just sitting without use, as I now have to have the crooked molder root canal and crown which will cost me $1500.00 dollars. My health insurance will not cover the work, so it has come out of my pocket which I do not have and I may have to use a credit card, which means more of an expensed to me already growing debt. I use to remember where we were constantly in school encouraged to go to a dentist and have our teeth clean etc. Dentistry today does not care whether your teeth are fine or not, they just want the money they charge for their services. I do not recommend this dental facility and their work with me was not worhty of the money one has to pay for services whether they are good or not. read more

If they didn't have such an amazing dental hygienist I probably would have stopped going here after 2 visits. Saw consistent and encouraging results with Meghan over a span of a few years. Her work is thorough, quick, and just very impressive overall. If you don't like the readings where they poke your gums and give readings on the depth? She's second to none in regards to getting around that. I HATED that part of treatment (and dentists never really bothered me) but she does it so efficiently and expertly that it's beyond impressive. Only reason why I won't be going back to Aspen Dental is because I always had to pay up front, call back a few weeks later when there was a credit on my account (I have great dental insurance which would cover), and then wait for it to be reimbursed. Totally inconvenient. My last appointment I decided to ask about it, and to the credit of the great staffing, they looked into it and determined that I indeed had quite a bit of history of doing well by Aspen, and receiving subsequent credits, but they couldn't accommodate and let my insurance handle it. I was told that they practice this because they don't want accounts to go into collections so it becomes an issue for everyone. While I appreciate the honesty, it sounds like a corporate issue that essentially makes THEIR problem, MY PROBLEM. Why should I chase my money I shouldn't have even spent to begin with, and do so with a proven track record (with no changes in insurance coverage), because this corporation has problems caused by others. I chose to walk out on the spot. I'm 40 years old and never have I ever had to deal with such inconvenient billing while being more than adequately insured...... I also chose not to respond to a voicemail follow up by Candace (who was also amazing in prior visits) about billing, and I did so because I am an understanding person who realizes that it's not the fault of the phenomenal staff. Giving 3 stars based solely on the effort, workmanship, results, and outstanding attitude of Meghan, Candace and those at Aspen Dental of West Haven. Would have been 5 VERY EASILY if the corporate structure regarding billing was as convenient, easy, and amazing as the people who represent the practice. read more

Poor communication. I showed up for my appointment today. The office manager "Issac" told me I have to pay $180 for cleaning before I can have their service. He said my insurance will pay only two cleaning per year and this is my third cleaning. He simply gave me options if I did not want to pay out of pocket, I can cancel the appointment and reschedule next year. I asked why he had not called me and informed me earlier. He could do better job in communication, not wasting my time. When I called my insurance, they told me I can have 4 cleanings per year (including peridontal cleaning) and I have used only two so far. $CAM ARTIST$ I went to Aspen Dental in December, lured in by their 'free exam and xrays". I needed a filling and after giving them $300, I was given a new filling. It was sore for a few weeks and sensitive. I kept reading online that it would take a few months to feel 100% better - but it never did. Come March I was being woken up in the middle of the night in pain, then it got to the point where I couldn't sleep and was in complete agony. I went back into Aspen Dental, and they told me "Looks like you are going to need a root canal. We can offer you finance options." Why on earth are you telling me about finance options??? I was lured into their finance room and told that my root canal would cost $2,700! And the crown would be an additional charge! I wanted to burst out in tears, and then I heard those lovely words again "We have finance options" I wanted to scream. I pulled out my phone and did a search for dentists nearby, luckily there was one close by and I was able to get a root canal WITH the crown for $980 that same day and it was completely painless. I haven't had an issue with my tooth since. The receptionist at the new dentist told me that people come in all the time telling her horror stories of what they've experienced at Aspen. All the doctors and nurses there have no invested interest in the company and are just there to improve the bottom line by luring in people with 'Free Exam and Xrays" and then charging insane amounts for simple and routine work. I paid in full prior to the procedure and since then additional charges have been popping up on a bill that were never mentioned to me during the procedure and should have been covered in my $2k payment to them. read more

The staff at the Aspen dental in West Haven was great! Very friendly and welcoming. My RDH was Meghan Purificato and she really was great! Very professional and great with her tools, works quickly and goes the extra mile to explain what she's doing so you feel comfortable the whole time. I already booked my next cleaning and have an appointment with them to remove a wisdom tooth. Very nice people here! read more

I called my insurance for a list of a DMO dentists. Aspen came up closest to my zip. Asked my insurance rep what my benefits covered and what I should be expected to cover out of pocket. Most of the services I needed done ( cleaning, x rays) were covered by my plan and I would be required to cover 10% of any other services that are not preventative. Upon doing 19 excessive x rays, I was told that they had a mountain of concerns. Knowing I would only be paying 10%, I listened to the breakdown. $4000! Because, " my insurance is DMO and not PPO and they only cover a small fee and not the percentage" that .. Get this...my insurance clearly stated whilst specifically assigning me to the DMO participating ASPEN Hmmmm. So I am able to get my plan coverage everywhere except at Aspen huh? Anyway, i found that rather mysterious, so I delved into my plan further, same coverage! Nothing has changed. Aspen says they need 30 days to "review " my insurance. Meanwhile, I examined my documents, saw that they had my wrong group number, wrong PCD type, and so I was obviously going to get the wrong coverage. The billing rep from Aspen even admitted that the person assigned to do my root canal was coming up out of network..even if she was certain she was in network...well wouldn't that affect the price? Oh yes she says. So no insurance coverage on the more expensive root canal ( the whole point of insurance) but a 5% discount on the special " not covered by my insurance" gum cleaning. Then she talks about financing, which I obviously stopped her. How could we talk about financing when you have my wrong insurance? I left the office, made no follow up for anything, and insisted they checked my plan: the agent insisted ..well it takes 30 days...ok take the 30 days and do your due diligence and I will do mine. Went home, still obviously bothered by that $4000 quote for some simple procedures. Googled " Aspen Dental and Aetna DMO" and low and behold a world of complaints, potential lawsuits, and frauding/ overpricing...people complaining about the same exact thing that I had concerns with. Literally verbatim. From the gingervitis, to the gum scraping, to the electric toothbrush, to the " your plan doesn't cover this it only covers that" nonsense. I was bewildered! I will be calling my insurance first thing on Monday to get a new dental assignment! Following with with Aspen to get my x rays! And also get them to explain that insurance break down again! I will be following suit if I can't get a straight answer and go to the attorney general for any charges to my insurance and contacting the BBB. I already have a lawyer on deck. I can't believe a simple visit to a dentist led to so much deception and mistrust. Never again! read more

STAY AWAY! I would give 0 stars if that was an option. I've been going there for 2-3 years now and I'm thrilled to say I'm done with this place. They are NEVER on time. NEVER. I even schedule the first available appointment at 7:30am and they still make you wait 30 mins. Beyond that, every time I go to my appointment they have a billing issue. They show a previous balance that I need to go through with them and every time they find that it was their mistake. Who has time for that?? The final straw with me was today when they told me I am required to get x-rays every 6 months, instead of the yearly ones I was getting before. They wouldn't do my cleaning without it!! What a joke. Don't go to a chain dentist! The focus is on money, not the relationship. This place was convenient and I figured I'd get a cleaning. The charged me what I thought was an awful lot of money for a " deep" cleaning. What does that even mean? The plaque goes down to the tooth, what is deeper than that? Do they think I'm stupid? They also tried too hard to push me into dental x-rays and I felt that was a technique to identify things that " needed fixing". I just want reasonable transparent dental care for my family. This has been a very positive experience for me. It feels like the staff are all family, they are very pleasant and helpful. Dr. Parks has a great office staff and dental assistants as well. But the best person by far, in my opinion, is Washington. He is truly an artist at what he does. He really listens to your concerns and addresses them accordingly. Aspen dental west haven the staff is great from the front desk to hygienest to dentist and surgeon. I've been going to them since they were located in Milford even though staff has changed still great service. The one negative is the wait times have increased in west haven. The two visits to west haven one was an hour wait and the other was 45 minutes. Totally unacceptable and concerning. Never waited that long in Milford. read more

The staff is horrible, Ive been going for 2 months when the procedure should have only taken about a month. The dentist blames everything from the staff to the labs and even the corporate office, as well as me......for the problems with the work not being right. I've tried to talk to corporate office as well as the actual owner of the individual practice (Hamden), Im not sure who is at fault or if the opperation is just just operating a poor level to what it used to be. Its a shame because it's convenient and some of the staff work hard to make it great. Don't bother to complain they just don't care. The office was beautiful and the staff was wonderful l, that is the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. There was this Asian dentist who immediately gave me a weird vibe. He lacks professionalism and if Aspen dental is to succeed they need to get rid of him. He looked at my X-Rays and started applying pressure to my gums. I felt some pain and asked him what that meant. His response was "I don't know". I laughed because I thought he was joking but he didn't tell me what it meant. We scheduled an appointment with Aspen Dental to get my 8-year old daughter's annual cleaning because we are switching to a restrictive insurance and they were one of the preferred providers. Noooooo waaaaaaay. So they scheduled an appointment for an 8 year old. We showed up and they said we had no appointment, they had booked it for 6 months later. Oh but we can fit you in now, they said. She is there and she is obviously an 8 year old child. We filled out all the paperwork, again listing her age as 8 years old (do you see where this is going?) We get back to see the dentist, they took an x-ray of the front of her teeth but could not fit the machine in her mouth to do the sides. Then the dentist started looking at her and almost immediately said he couldn't work on her, she needed to see a pediatric dentist (insurance only allows a pediatric dentist age 7 and under.) He would not even clean her teeth. But because they brought us in and took an xray, we have to pay them for the exam and xray. Why would you take in a patient if you KNOW YOU CANNOT SERVICE HER? Seems to me like a scam to get our money and then send us away with nothing done. Very unhappy with this unprofessional company and will never go back. read more

Get qualified dentists. I had several appointments with this dentist and spent several thousands on fillings, whitening (which I felt was unnecessary), and oral care products that I felt were also totally unnecessary. Last fall during one of my appointments, I went to get a small cavity filled in one of my left molars. After a day or two, I noticed that the filling was uneven (didn't fit properly), making it extremely uncomfortable to chew. I went back to have it fixed, thinking I would be in and out in less than 30 minutes. The dentist shaved down way more than I thought was necessary - saying that she did it because I grind my teeth too much and have "flattened them out". (No other dentist ever told me this) After this appointment, the tooth became extremely sensitive and uncomfortable. It came to the point where even chewing soft foods was painful. I went back and she then put desensitizing gel on the tooth assuring me that having sensitivity for a couple weeks is normal and if it lasts longer than a month, I probably need a root canal. The gel did nothing. Unfortunately, at the time, I was going through big life changes and did not have the time or means to go back (I was still in college!) Fast forwarding months later - I went to a different dentist who told me that the tooth was actually shaved down to the dentin (way past the filling), so the sensitivity was from the exposed nerve endings and that I definitely didn't need a root canal. Save your money and your teeth and go somewhere else! read more

What began as a positive experience just became progressively worse. Last Spring, I developed an abscess tooth. I was happy that Aspen would see me the same day. I went in, had an exam, and was talked into a root canal and crown. I was given a reasonable price and a date for the procedure. I signed an agreement to pay approximately $1,200, after insurance, for the WHOLE process. I asked several times, if I would owe any more, and was told no. Well... when I went to have the root canal done, this other dentist wasn't sure if the tooth needed a root canal, but talked me into it for preventative reasons. Then came the temporary crown that fell out as soon as I got home. While fitting me for the crown, the dentist shaved the enamel down on the healthy adjacent tooth, which I didn't know about until I went to a new dentist. How could the new dentist see this? BECAUSE the "permanent" crown broke within the first week! They did offer to replace it for free, but there was NO WAY I was going through that process at Aspen again. A few weeks later, I received a separate bill for over $800 for money they said insurance would cover, but didn't. I think it is a scam. They had this $800 listed on the original agreement as an "insurance benefit," as opposed to "insurance discount." Never once did they tell me that that $800 was not guaranteed. If I had known that this less than satisfactory experience would have cost me over $2,000, I NEVER would have gotten it without a 2nd opinion. Shady estimate/business practices, and poor quality dentistry. AVOID! read more
