We've been to Rawlins several times and always lamented the food options, so when we were stranded on a Sunday morning due to road closures on i80, we discovered Ichiban and they were open! The outside doesn't look like much, but the inside is very cute and sleek. We were promptly seated and our waitress was very attentive and frequently checked on us. The Naruto appetizer was so good! It's about awkward to eat, I couldn't get the cucumber on the chopsticks without everything falling apart, so deconstructing is the way to go. It was heavenly. We both orders the filet mignon and it was cooked to order and very tender. The sauce that came with it, was wonderful. The rice was well cooked as was the asparagus. The salad didn't look super great, but we had plenty of food. They do have alcoholic beverages as well different sushi, teriyaki, and udon/ramen options. We'll definitely be back! I was intrigued. An Ichiban? Here? Seems odd. Turns out I was right. This is not part of a chain and was therefore unlike other teppanyaki places I had seen. (Though, in their defense, I believe I was also conflating the old Ichiban in Minneapolis with Benihana). Friendly service but the food was over and under cooked. He put the shrimp on the grill first and took it off last and it was like rubber. The chicken wasn't completely cooked so we didn't eat it. We stopped here on our way to Colorado Springs, and we enjoyed it so much that we came by again on our way home! We tried both the regular dining room and the tepanyaki grill. This place isn't much to look at, and it's pretty basic inside, but it's clean and comfortable enough. The food is quite good! I enjoyed salad, soup, and scallops our first time there. (The lava cake dessert was just all right.) But I absolutely loved the scallop and shrimp tepanyaki on our second visit. So good! The grill chef was great, and we had no complaints about the service. Found this Gem of a spot on a trip across Wyoming. They fit the needs of GF menu items for me and noodle for my wife. The atmosphere is fun with a ceiling that lights up of the stars. We got a little bit of everything. I got Udon noodles with chicken and vegetables. Wife got yakisoba noodles with chicken. Both very very good. This is a decent Japanese teppan grill / sushi restaurant. The staff are all pleasant. I hear this is the best food in Rawlins. WY. We sat at the teppan grill. The chef was very friendly and efficient. The food was definitely good. We had the filet mignon & lobster. The kids had NY steak and shrimp. The steak was medium rare, the way we like it. The lobster was a little overcooked. The yumyum sauce is like a thousand island dressing. I like the sauce at restaurants back home in SoCal better. I didn't realize there was so much variation in yumyum sauce until we tried Teppanyaki in Texas last year. Who knows, people from Texas and Rawlins may not like the SoCal sauce? The kids were not fans of the mushroom soup. I thought it was fine. The sakad dressing is the same thousand island-like yum yum sauce. Driving through Wyoming we stopped in Rawlins for early dinner and noticed an Ichiban. Really? In Rawlins? We were thrilled! We both had Bento box meals and they were fabulous! In our way home on Father's Day and a Sunday, everything was closed except Ichiban, so we said heck yes! This time we ordered three sushi rolls and oh my, they were out of this world! We had the Twinkle, Sex on the Beach and Rock n Roll. So fresh and rolls were huge! We actually took a to go box back to the hotel with hope to have a little stomach room for more later. So happy we chose Ichiban for dinner! The quality and flavor of this meal compares with any Teppan House I've tried. Hands down, some of the best teppanyaki I've eaten. (I'm old and I travel a lot, and I've had a lot of Japanese food in several states.) Hubby had avocado salad - LOVED it. I didn't get to try. He also had a Rainbow Roll, and as there was nothing left, we'll call that a win, too. He also started with miso soup, and his first words were, "This is GOOD miso." I had the NY Steak and Shrimp Hibachi dinner, and took half home, after sharing with hubby. Generous portions, well seasoned, and very fresh, I can only say good things about this meal. It comes with "mushroom soup," which is a beef consommé with mushrooms - and it was yummy. I couldn't tell if it was a commercial broth or not (I usually can), so yay for the kitchen! It also comes with a small salad, which was heavily dressed for my taste, so if I'm in the area again, I will order dressing on the side. We decided to overnight in Rawlins on our drive through Wyoming and saw the great reviews for Ichiban. We were pleasantly surprised to find that they lived up to the hype. Our waiter, Peter, was super friendly and fun to chat with, my martini was delicious and our meals (a chicken teriyaki bento box and a shrimp tempura roll) were beautifully presented, generously portioned and tasty. Who would think that there would be a first rate Japanese restaurant in a small town? This place was excellent! The chicken teriyaki was so flavorful. The food portions are very generous. The staff and service couldn't have been any better. The tempura is slightly different than what I'm used to. Excellent service with great care for replenishing drinks (iced tea was fresh brewed and excellent, btw). We had the sashimi lunch special, the beef yakisoba, and the teriyaki scallop bento plate. Everything was so flavorsome and arrived quickly. The only detractors was the fried rice, which was pretty plain and I didn't even realize had been an upcharge. It was a small price to pay, though, considering that the server spotted me a free soup and gave us the lunch special sashimi on a day when it wasn't technically offered. Plus! It was the only place open on the 4th of July! Definitely a vibe place--all the lights feel like they should be tacky, but we just thought they were fun and cute! I got the salmon hibachi, which was a medium ish amount of salmon with a ton of side dishes--mushroom soup, fried rice, nice vegetables in teriyaki sauce. My friend got their tempura shrimp, which likewise came with miso soup, white rice, a couple dumplings, and a California roll. None of it was exceptional, but all of it was decent. It was definitely a bit on the salty side, but none of the side dishes felt like afterthoughts either. For the amount of food, it was also a fantastic price. read more

Sushi in WY, who would think? We hit Ichiban on a busy Wednesday evening. We were able to get a table. Our waitress came over and got our drink order very quickly. We ordered Gyoza, sushi and sashimi combo, and ichiban fried rice. The gyoza and the rice came out first and were very good. That probably would have been enough food, but we ordered the sushi and sashimi combo and it was great too! Overall, I was very impressed with Ichiban!
