Let's first start off by saying, I was in desperate need of help given all the misinformation I received from prior stylists/salons and just terrible haircuts to the point of crying, and never thought I would get out from under. Ever been there, it's just awful feeling to have. When I happened upon an understanding customer of Alis, I thought hope is on the horizon by offering a different perspective so the feeling of going in circles might soon stop. I also thought perhaps she can provide more clarity and put me on a better path than driving myself crazy with all products that either dried out my hair, were too natural, had this or that in it that I was allergic to or what have you and my mind was blogged at best, I literally didn't know where to turn; enter I needed a miracle. I called Alis, left a message and within 30-minutes she called me back-- yay, I thought. She was available that same afternoon and I thought to myself this is a calling from God and I jumped on the wagon and took the appointment. As I was driving to her location, I thought I would never of known that there was a salon here for at best I am familiar with the area and the office buildings as my doctor is in the same location, but a hair salon, who'd of thought. I entered the salon and stumbled with my words as someone does in the movies when they are being saved. I talked to Cheree, the owner, and she said, you must be so and so and got Alis for me. Let me tell you, Alis is the most understanding, patient, and willing to listen person you will ever meet, hands down. As of today, we are still on the journey to finding a leave-in conditioner that doesn't eradicate my scalp and/or dry out my hair and a curl cream that is moisturizing to boot, but with her help and us deciphering what works and what doesn't I feel that eventually I will get there and then all will be "right" in the world again. In the meantime, I am SO thankful that I found Alis with Gods help and one of her customers in Target of all places that very day 4-weeks ago. I learned to not cover up the past of what got me to Alis with endless and countless hours of researching product ingredients and comparing products to other products to see what would work, etc., which was beyond exhausting but instead I chalked it up as a learning experience to do better moving forward with a more opened mind than I had. I learned just because a product is expensive doesn't mean it works any better than a product that is less expensive and just because it says all natural and clean doesn't mean its any better for your hair type. I had a gift certificate for Cati, written out by Cati that my father in law gave me. When I scheduled my appt with Cati I told her I had it and she replied she would not accept it. So she got paid for a service in advance and now she won't honor it. Very shady behavior. I use to use her in the past numerous times had my daughters and mother use her as well. Easy parking and easy to find. Make reservations will be much easier. I love the separators for each pedicure chair as well as the hair stylist area. You feel as if you are just with your stylist and can speak anything! ;) There is a coffee area and the vending machine is in the front. Overall spacious and clean with a good color flow. This cute little salon is located inside of a business park which could easily be missed if you didn't know it was there. I go there specifically for Kristin. She is my nail artist and she creates the most unique nail designs for a very reasonable price. There isn't anything I can ask for that she can't do. The salon is on the smaller side so the noise level is pretty low and relaxing. The music is never offensive and they have a full stocked coffee bar. Groupon found me another gem! I've been in dire need of a haircut for months. The last time I let a professional cut my hair, she cut 6 inches off, saying that my split ends justified that length. I don't know about you, but I've never seen a split end even close to as long as the length of my pinky nail, let alone 6 inches. I was ticked. I've let my sister trim my hair, but again, she had cut off 4 inches & I was not happy. I wanted a micro trim & I wasn't about to let another lazy stylist chop all of my hair off. I've had expensive cuts & free cuts, & I can honestly say, I had one of the best hair experiences yesterday (3/2/12) at Aspen. I started by calling to make an appointment, as directed by Groupon, prior to purchase. I believe Paul answered the phone & told me that they'd honor the Groupon Now special, without me purchasing a Groupon. I scheduled my appointment for a few hours later, at 1:30 PM. At my appointment, I wasn't sure who was supposed to be working on me. The receptionist told me the girl that would work on me was finishing somebody else up & would be with me shortly. Eventually a different girl, a blonde girl (24, forgot her name) led me to the sinks for a deep condition. She was totally friendly & we had a nice chat. Afterward, she set me under a hair dryer for half an hour. My hair was very wet & it probably could have used a good squeeze because it was pretty drippy in the hair dryer. Regardless, this was not in any way a deal breaker. Afterward, Chirin told me she'd be working on my haircut. She was awesome & totally understood how I felt about not getting my hair chopped to bits. I asked for a micro trim & a few long layers. My hair tangles like nobody's business. Chirin started to brush my hair wet & it tangled! She switched brushes & told me that she wanted to cut my hair dry to be more precise because my hair was tangling . She blow dried & flat ironed it & gave me exactly what I wanted. Although she's almost 22, she'd been doing hair for 3 years & did a great job. I walked out with super shiny, soft SPLIT END free LONG hair! The Groupon deal was $20 for a conditioning treatment, cut & style. I couldn't have been more happy. I used my debit card & paid $25 (including tip.) I saw that they had a sign for $40 facials for first time clients. Because I had to be at work in an hour, I asked if I could schedule for tomorrow (3/3/12) I was told to leave my number & somebody would call me to schedule. About 45 minutes later, Cati called & scheduled me for 2:30 on 3/3/12 (I didn't know Cati was the skin care specialist.) I showed up today (3/3/12) for my appointment. I said I didn't know who I was scheduled with. Chirin was at the front desk & a man said I was probably with Julie but he had to check. I was actually with Cati, which was fine by me. A guy in the waiting room was RAVING about the service here & about Cati's facials. He told me he & his wife travel from Milwaukee to their 2nd home here in Vegas, just to get worked on at Aspen & that Cati was amazing. I've never had a facial or any spa treatment, for that matter, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was awesome. First I was led to a little room to change into a wrap, & then had my hands dipped into lavender paraffin wax, bundled up & put under comfy blankets. The room was dark & there was nice music on as Cati examined my skin & told me I had extremely dry skin. My problem area is my chin & neck. Cati told me I was having allergic reactions to my makeup & that I needed to get something organic, preferably mineral makeup ASAP, along with some OTC eczema cream for a spot that had reacted to my foundation. She told me I needed to stop using Clinique, Covergirl & RImmel because it was causing my current reactions. She also told me that the pharmaceuticals I've taken could easily be the culprit for some of my skin issues that she told me absolutely could not have been brought on by the use of topical product. She told me I needed more vitamin B in my diet, less scrubbing & to make sure my face was free of processed makeup. Along with a zillion other helpful tips, she did some extractions on my face. I'll be honest, I wish she had done a bit more extractions on my nose, but that's neither here nor there. After 90 minutes of having my face steamed, extracted, cleaned with glycolic acid, then massaged (from my scalp to my arms!) & another mask, my treatment was over. I felt great! I was nervous when Cati said she was an independent contractor & that she took cash or check only because I had only brought my debit card. She ended up letting me use my debit card, with a $3 processing fee which brought my total to $53 for the facial (including $10 tip & fee.) I wish somebody would have mentioned her cash only policy when I scheduled as the policy wasn't the same for my hair cut the day before. I would have brought my checkbook. Regardless, I'm pretty sure that I'll be back for another facial & trim in a month. read more

The worst customer service I've unfortunately had to experience. I contacted Gina on a Wednesday to see if she had any availability on a convenient time/day to accommodate to my schedule prior to buying the Groupon deal. We agreed on a time/date (Friday at 2pm) and she asked me to text her to remind her about the appointment as she was driving. So I was a bit skeptical but the deal was good and I'm still in search of a nearby and trustworthy nail salon, so I went ahead and sent her a text immediately to ensure my appointment. Today, Friday at 2pm I was there 5 minute early and she comes with a very unprofessional and giggly demeanor and tells me she overbooked me and to come back at 4pm. This is very upsetting because I made sure to contact her before and even go the extra step to text Gina with the details to make sure she did not forget. The fact that I had to make it my job to take the initiative to text her the appointment details after our phone call goes to show how little she values her customers. Gina's carelessness in hindsight demonstrated the worst customer service and unprofessional behavior I've ever experienced in the beauty industry. The Groupon deal may be tempting but if value your time, the work ethic and overall experience of a relaxing and seamless beauty professional/spa day this is a waste of time. It's important to support those who truly care about their clients and Gina's actions goes to show she does not. read more

Saw the groupon, read reviews on yelp (all good) before I purchased it. My sister was coming into town and decided to get a haircut with me. I made an appointment for both of us on a Saturday at 3:30pm. I was told two different ladies were doing our hair. Perfect! About a week before I received a phone call asking if they could move my sisters appointment to 12:30, I informed them that they we were both getting a haircut and that her flight didn't get in until 1pm. They said that was fine and it was left as is. I received a call day of appointment and was told that Paul was no longer with the salon. They said they will try to get someone else to do my hair, in which they called back and said someone was available to do it at 3:30. So we go to the salon and was greeted by the receptionist. She asked who was cutting our hair and we responded with "we have no idea, it's been changed a couple of times." Then it took her about 10 mins to figure out who was cutting our hair. My sisters stylist came up to the recceptionist 3 times to ask her if my sister was her client. The stylist was almost going to leave! My sister was then greeted by her hair dresser and was taken to the back for her shampoo and deep conditioning. I was greeted by an assistant who said she will be washing and deep conditioning my hair while my stylist finishes up someone else. So my sister has her wash and deep conditioning rather quickly. I was in the middle of my deep condition drying (30 mins) when my sister was already done with her haircut and styled. There was Wendy's trash all over the tables in what I assume is the stylists "breakroom," that is out in the open. So I finally sit down with the stylist, Chirin (sp? younger lady with dark hair), and she seemed a little frazzled. Her consultation was non-existent and when I told her what I wanted, she turned it into "just a trim." Uh okay, I guess. I wanted to discuss options with her but she cut me off and assumed I just wanted a trim. The hair cut took about 7 mins total. She then said that the assistant was going to take me again, dry my hair and straighten it. Then I was going to come back to her to frame my face with my hair dry. So far it's been about 45 mins. The assistant (who was younger and learning about cosmetology--but very helpful and nice) took a good amount of time to dry and straighten my hair. About half way through the straighten I told her she needs to move it along, as I have been at the salon for about an hour and 15 mins, and still wasn't close to being done. In the meantime, Chirin took another customer and was doing highlights on her head. Now I am not sure if the assistant was taking her time to make more time for the Chirin or what, but I knew I wasn't going to get back to the stylist until she was done doing highlights on this person. So it would have been more time. At that point, it was pushing almost two hours and I told the assistant and stylist I had to leave, since I had out of town guests waiting for me. I left both of them a small tip (as I spent more time with the assistant than the actual stylist). Chirin told me "sorry." I am sitting here typing this review with a half of a haircut. When I was getting my hair dried, I overheard that my stylist had two other people waiting for her! She had 4 people at once. Obviously, there is a booking problem with this salon. When I get a haircut, I want to relax and not feel rushed by the stylist, I did here. I didn't even get a full haircut in almost two hours! After we left, my sister mentioned overhearing stylists talking about groupon customers and how some stylists do not want to take them because they do not get the money, but money off their booth rental from the owner. VERY inappropriate to talk about when groupon customers are sitting right there!!! Overall, I was excited to spend time with my sister and get pampered. The only pampering I got was from the assistant. I am upset that I spent money on a groupon , received a half of a haircut, felt rushed, and it took up a lot of my time. Guess I'll have to go back to my usual salon and get the rest of the haircut. read more

Ti's the season to give, so I gave myself a Livingsocial deal for a $20.00 gel nail manicure. Listen, there are several things I have a hard time with, "coupons" (groupons and livingsocial included) and spending money on myself right before the holidays. Alas the desire for sparkly nails overpowered my phobias of conserving funds and couponing this time. Often times utilizing a groupon or livingsocial deal you end up having to wait a while for an appointment, not this time! I was able to obtain a next-day appointment. A lunch hour later I left Aspen Salon and Day Spa with the best sparkly red nails I've ever had. (See photo for reference) Kapua was my nail specialist and she was amazing, great energy, easy to talk to and does a beautiful job. So if you are one to treat yourself often or don't get around to treating yourself enough (ahem..like me), get down to visit Kapua and the other lovely ladies of Aspen Salon and Day Spa. I have been to this salon several times over a period of about 10 years. First, for hair services until my stylist left for another salon. Then for facials, until she left as well. Last year I bought a groupon for nails and a living social for a facial, both of which happened to be at Aspen. I love Kapua. She is fun, friendly and her manicures and pedicures are the best in the city. The polish lasts way longer than any I've had and she really puts some elbow into smoothing out rough spots. Julie gives fabulous facials. She is easy to talk to and my skin glows for days after. She goes the extra mile with a hand parafin treatment. It's always so clean and they always offer me a beverage (coffee, water, tea). Just left from my first visit with a Groupon special for a "root touch up, style, deep conditioning". I booked an appointment with Kelly Carlson and I sure wasn't disappointed! She matched my root color perfectly, gave me a great trim (that's all I needed) and a deep conditioning. She dried my hair and straightened it. All in all an excellent job! There is a girl name Michelle Torello that I had do my hair and she was sooo high on meth that it literately took her 2 1/2 hours to color and cut my hair. She kept dropping her sizers and was being paranoid that the person next to her was talking about her!! She was very paranoid. On top of that she stunk of alcohol. I finally had to tell her to stop and I went some where else to have it finished. If I was you I would stay very far from this place. Since I started going to Shauna Hadley several years ago, I have received tons of compliments on my hair. I was a little bummed when she told me she was moving to a new shop. I got a Groupon for $55 to get a haircut and highlights. Now maybe I wasn't specific enough on my highlights, I did say I didn't want blonde stip since my hair is espresso brown but I wanted something that was settle but yet showed. The highlights you couldn't tell I even had any and the haircut was bad! It was uneven and the more the stylist cut the more it got shorter than I wanted. I finally had to walk away. I was shocked how the stylist didn't even notice how one side was uneven. The stylist blamed it on my hair and how my hair sits...he made it feel like it was my fault! He did try to correct it but again the more he did, the shorter it got. I ended up making an appointment with my previous hairstlyer who will be back into town this week. What I'm bummed about is spending $55 for the Groupon and tipping him $20= $75.00, when I know my stylist charges $75 for haircut and highlights. Now I realize I would rather spend a little more to get it right than go for deals. Now I will have to spend more money to salvage what I can...good thing it's hair and it grows back. I got a cut, highlight and "conditioning treatment" and my stylist was Jonathan. I told him my hair was very fine and you could easily see abrupt lines etc if my layers aren't blended. I asked him for some framing around my face, some long layers and advised I don't want to lose a lot of length. My hair ended up choppy and uneven. There is not a nice v shape in the back like I asked for and it's super short around my face. The highlights look good but the cut is horrible. He was rough the entire time and was combing my hair out with a paddle brush afterward when it was very tangled and was pulling hair out. I cried when I got home and realized just how bad it was. Then a friend of mine and I were talking and she went there and got him as well and he ruined her hair too. She went back so he could fix it but ended up walking out and going elsewhere to have it fixed. I'll be doing the same thing tomorrow - going elsewhere to have it fixed. Also, track pants and a tshirt are not acceptable attire for a salon/spa. And the cheesy vending machine in the waiting area? I should have walked out immediately. Don't go here. Just an update. I went to Hotbox Salon today to have my hair fixed and David, the owner fixed my hair so beautifully. Highly recommend going to Hotbox and skipping Aspen all together!! I didn't realize how messed up the back of my hair was till I came home and my mom noticed that there were chunks of my hair that are still blonde. It was hard to see how the whole back of my hair looked like at the salon because of the lighting. The whole time he was doing my hair he kept checking the clock and telling his coworkers that he hasn't taken his lunch. The whole experience was just horrible!!! I have been using Groupon to try out different salons for over a year. I have had "good" experiences, but last Saturday I had a GREAT experience at Aspen Salon.. so much that I decided to Yelp about it! I had Ashely as a stylist. She was friendly and I received a great cut & color!! She was very confident and cut over 6 inches off of my hair! I always get a bit nervous cutting a lot off of my hair and getting bangs but it was such a comfortable experience. I will definitely go back to Ashley in the future. I recently purchased a Groupon for $59 for a haircut, deep conditioning treatment and all over color. Smokin' deal!! I had never been to this salon before so I was eager to give it a try. I called and made an appointment with a lady named Brenda. When I showed up the lobby was nice, inviting & warm and there were a good selection of smut magazines for me to peruse. I waited about 10 minutes as Brenda was finishing up with a client. Brenda was a little standoff-ish at first but once we broke the ice she was nice and friendly. We chatted about life and she did a good job coloring my hair. It was consistent, not blotchy and just what I had asked for. She wrote my name, phone number and the color she had used on a card and placed it in her file for future reference (nice touch!). She likewise did a good job on my haircut and took the time to listen to how I wanted it done. I just moved to Henderson and have been searching for a stylist. When I saw the groupon for Aspen Day Spa, I thought it was a great way to try out a new salon, and hopefully find a great stylist. Boy, was I wrong. I purchased the cut, highlight, and conditioning treatment advertised for $59. When I called to make my appointment, the stylist that answered was able to get me in the next day, so I thought that was great. When I walked in, my first thought was, "really?" They have a HUGE vending machine right in the waiting room--it looks grossly tacky, and did not set a great vibe. I waited 10 minutes up front for anyone to even ask if I had been helped, and the lady that did eventually come up front was very rude. She went and got my stylist, Jonathan. He greeted me, and took me back. I brought pictures and was very direct in what I wanted--it's the same cut I've had for the past 5 years. I hadn't highlighted my hair in about 2.5 years, and made that clear to him as well. He assured me I would look great. Although in hindsight, I should have been leery. He never asked me how I fixed my hair, where I parted, etc. He was very quick with the highlight process,and soon enough I was in the washing chair. He was very rough with the shampoo and condition, but nothing major there. Then we got to the cut. Again, very fast. He cut my hair while it was wet, and then went to blow-dry. Again, very rough. And then he was done. I usually straighten my hair with a flat-iron, and most stylists do too when I go in (as it matches the pictures I give...)--and then they usually dry cut to texturize, and blend in the layers. I was happy with the shape of the cut, and the way he "fixed" it was a lot "fluffier" than I normally do, which hid a lot of the problems. I tipped him $15, so my total was $75. As I was fixing my hair the next day, I realized how bad it was. I cried. The highlights look terrible--they do not go to the root--I easily have 1/2" of root showing on each strip, and it looks like a line of blond against my normal brown. After I straight-ironed my hair I realized the cut was choppy. The layers are not blended--it looks like my 5 year old took a scissors to my hair. I called my husband, very upset, and he convinced me to call the salon and ask them to fix it. I called, and they put me through to Jonathan, who told me to come back in. I decided to give him a chance to fix it--and went back. He had me in and out in 30 minutes. I'm not sure what he did exactly--he put something on my hair to lift the color by the roots to "soften" the harsh line--it did NOT. After that, he dried by hair and attempted to straight iron it--and fix the cut. I'm pretty sure he made it worse. I thanked him, and got out of there before he could do anymore damage. This was by far the worst experience I have had in a salon, ever! The worst part is, now I have to make another appointment somewhere else to hopefully fix what he ruined. Having been fed up with mediocre hairdressers charging upwards of $150 for a simple trim and one step color, I decided to try to Aspen in hopes of finding a reasonably priced, good professional. I went there with a Groupon offer a cut, all over color and a deep conditioning treatment. It's not a very glamorous salon. I think the lodge theme is a bit odd, but I hear they will be changing locations. Paul was my stylist. He was friendly, casual and understood that I didn't need anything complicated. I got a nice all over color, a trim and some side swept bangs and am satisfied with my look. Most importantly, he and I worked out an affordable rate so I can maintain my look without breaking the bank. read more
