Facts: - Pick-up date: 11/27/2021 from Utah - Delivery date: 1/18/2022 to Florida. Received 1 hour instead of 24 hour notice - Time in transit: 34 business days excluding holidays and weekends - Highschool kids hired as professional movers on the delivery: Male 17 years old, male 19, female 18. They had no experience, did not have a tool box, and smelled like marijuana. - Multiple broken and missing items such as $850 broken vintage mirror, $1500 shattered vanity, $3000 dining room table scratched and dented and so on. Missing $1000 patio furniture. Absolutely avoid this company if you are moving from one state to another state. It took them 34 business days to deliver our furniture. Compass sub-contracted the move to a carrier, Seven Stars Movers DOT 3268092, to pick-up our furniture on 11/27/2021. I have called and emailed this carrier more than 25 times but no one takes responsibility regarding unjustified delays and mishandling of our furniture. Brandon Ageloff, CEO of Compass Moving Group, is not professional and he has not taken any responsibility for not honoring their contractual obligations. He hung up the phone on me on 1/18/2022 stating "I wanted to give you $400 but now I am not going to give you anything". He retaliated against me since I filed a complaint with FMCSA and contacted the Better Business Bureau regarding his Company's sub-standard service and negligence which have caused my family so much emotional anguish and loss of thousands of dollars. My elderly parents moved across the country after 45 years in one place. They TRUSTED Compass, but they got so burned. Long story short- (their delivery was delayed btw) all of their boxes and suitcases had water damage and what looked like cement all over them. They also had an antique wooden swing that was completely broken. AND they are STILL missing 12 boxes. I've left 7 messages for Compass Moving and NO ONE has called me back. I've also sent countless emails. They told me to submit a claim, which I did. The insurance company responded back saying they don't work with Compass Moving. I wish I had read some of these reviews prior to using this company. My whole move has been a nightmare, from jacking up prices days before pickup so that I was stuck, overcharging for storage, late pickup, and shotty delivery. The communication from the company is weak. Customer service is a joke- You might be told you are important, but then they ghost you for a while. I could write a whole list of issues that I've had with this company, but that would go on and on. Compass Moving Group was totally useless and provided terrible service. DOT# 3410175 out of Boca Raton FL. All they did was collect the $2152 broker fee, hire an inexperienced, unprofessional and ill-prepared mover who made up his schedule as he went. Compass repeatedly neglected to return our calls for help with scheduling and other issues. Our Mover (an additional $5000) showed up at 10:15 pm on a Saturday night to deliver our damaged possessions- demanding cash payment before unloading the truck. We have never been so poorly served by any type of service company before dealing with Compass Moving Group. Somehow they convince you they have mostly 5 star rating which must be a trick on the internet- if you look in the right place you find the tru 1 star ratings which is more than they deserve. If you happen to reach anyone by phone, they provide "lip service" in the form of "We are so sorry" and "We will get back to you on that"... but they won't. They don't reply to messages or control the movers schedule once you pay the Broker Fee which is payed up front. They sent the Claims processing info so we could file a claim with the Mover for many damaged items but were no help in completing or getting results. As it turned out, Compass customer service had sent us to an incorrect claims processing company that didn't even process claims for the Express Vanlines that Compass had hired. We spent hours providing info for the initial claim that was sent to a processor that didn't even handle them so we had to complete the task twice when they finally provided the correct info. Excellent movers! I booked them for a move from New Jersey to Arizona. I spoke with Robert & he made the whole process from start to finish incredibly easy & stress free. Every other company I spoke to made me feel like I was at a used car lot. They called the day before with the estimated time. They arrived within window on moving day. We booked our move 30 days in advance and we are sitting here at 10:00 PM on the very last night. The truck was supposed to be here yesterday to start loading, which was our 2 day window. They showed up at 7:00 PM today! Then wanted to charge us an additional $4,000.00! We had an appointment to sign closing documents tomorrow on the house we bought. Our review of Compass Moving is much like the review written on 12-5-2022. Our original quote for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment move was approx. $6200, after telling the representative what we had to move. We had a call 1-2 days prior to pick up and the price went up an additional $1166.00 (it was going to be $1766, but they gave us a $500 credit to take away some of the sting!) and on pick up day, an additional $800. (We expected the cost would go up a total of approx. $1200 since we added some items). We were called the day before our stuff was to be delivered and told that we had 2 options- pay an additional $1100 and they would bring our stuff to our house, or if we did not want to pay the $1100, they would put it in storage, and we could rent a truck and pick it up and take it to our house ourselves. When we called and complained about the additional $1100, the promised return call never came. Our $6200 move turned into $10,300! We were able to pay the first two deposits with a credit card and then it had to be cash or a postal money order (after being told we could use a credit card if we called in advance). The crew that picked up our belongings did a great job wrapping the furniture and loading our boxes/bins (we packed everything), but the crew that delivered our belongings had boxes upside down, on their sides and showed no care for our property, including leaving their trash in the street. when I first called this company, they were amazing. They were very attentive and provided excellent customer service. Now today is my move day. And I realized just a few days ago that they're actually a broker and not a moving company and I have a lot of issues occurring with the move right now and the movers are here and I called their emergency customer service line 3 times and it's been two hours and no one's gotten back to me. I must echo the negative reviews regarding Compass Moving Group. They are a brokerage, not a moving company. Received a quote for $3,900 to move a 2 bedroom apartment out of state (with me moving all of my clothes). I provided detailed information, including dimensions of what needed to be moved WEEKS prior to the move, and paid the required deposit. When the "QA" person called shortly before the move, we reviewed what was being moved again, including dimensions AGAIN and the price almost doubled. As stated in previous reviews, after 72 hours, any deposits paid are non-refundable, so I had to pay another deposit for the new, almost $7,000 estimate, which they "softened" to that amount by offering some discounts (which I now know is their ploy to make you think they are working with you but are really screwing you). On the day of the move, the movers arrived with a TRAILER attached to a pickup truck, not a moving truck. Lead mover looked at my belongings and said that it would most likely be an additional $1,300 since Compass Moving Group had underestimated the move again. I spoke with another Compass representative who said basically that if the cubic footage went over, I would either have to pay the additional money or leave belongings behind. Again, they "lessened" the amount by saying they would discount the overage (but I would still have to pay significantly more) to make me think they were trying to work with me. I was furious at this point and stressed about the move and there was nothing I could do because of their 72 hour non-refundable deposit policy. The movers who packed and loaded me were nice enough, but took quite a few breaks and often returned reeking of marijuana. I had also asked if they would take a sentimental tree that I had for over 12 years (5 other moving companies had always worked with me on taking this tree if I assured them I would not hold them liable if something happened to it), but Compass Moving Group and the moving company would absolutely NOT work with me on this, so I had to leave behind this tree that meant very much to me. I was told that Compass Moving Group would call me within the next day or so to find out my first available delivery date. After a week, I had to call them to find out when I would receive my belongings. Some key takeaways: the rep from Compass Moving Group who stated that he would be my primary contact for the duration was really just a sales rep and did not return my calls once he had collected my initial deposit, I had to call the company repeatedly to get any assistance, and the initial estimate should never be trusted. You can count on them increasing the cost of the move on the day of the move. You can't receive a refund for deposits after 72 hours. They will take credit card payments for the deposits and you have to pay the remaining amounts due (half at pick up and half at delivery) by cashier check, cash, or cash app. I had planned on paying by Venmo but was informed that there was an additional 4% charge for using Venmo (or any cash app) on the day of my move, after my belongings had been packed and the movers were ready to leave, so I had to make the time to go to a bank and take out cash. This has been the most stressful move I have ever had and I would never recommend Compass Moving Group to anyone. By holding your deposit hostage, you are out of luck when they significantly increase the cost of your move after the initial contract has been signed. As stated in previous reviews they are a scam. DO NOT USE. I was charged double the original quote. Customer service is extremely friendly UP until the movers come to take your items. I was charged double the amounted in the quote at pick up. Needless to say I did not realize this was a brokerage and once my move started Compass was incredibly unhelpful in assessing my situation and justifying the increase in price. To further reiterate the horrible true stories about this "company" let me make it simple, Compass Moving Group (based out of Boca Raton, FL) IS NOT A MOVING COMPANY!!! THEY ARE BROKERS FOR YOUR MOVE!!! What is a "Moving Broker"? - Great question, a "moving broker" is a middleman who takes your $$$ and coordinates the logistics of your move by hiring people (who are not necessarily licensed movers or an insured moving company) at an efficient cost to move your personal belongings from one location to another. Why is the distinction between a moving company and moving broker important? - A moving company is fully insured, has a single point of contact for goods and services, will guarantee pick-up and drop-off dates, in addition to being reachable for documentation request, service changes, and/or service cancellations. - In Compass Moving's terms of agreement they flat out tell you they're not responsible for ANYTHING (damaged belongings intransit, pick-up/drop-off dates, delays, issues with the 3rd party mover they hired on your behalf, etc.) once your belongings are put on someone's moving truck they contracted for your move. Why is the above important? - It's the reason so many people are leaving negative reviews about their experience with Compass Moving. Once Compass Moving is paid and outsources the move to cheap third party help per their terms of agreement that's all they're legally responsible for. They will not help you once your belongings are in transit because they contractual do not have to. They work a loophole in an underregulated (moving) industry which affords them the opportunity to prey on unsuspecting people looking for affordable long distance moving. My story ... I Googled "long distance movers" and saw Compass Moving Group in the top 5 search results (they may have been a paid ad on Google at the time) so I gave them a call. I spoke to a gentleman named "Bobby" went thru the process and agreed to a down payment for services. I was told my rate would hold for a year if I paid during our conversation (that was the only true thing during this entire process) so I did. A few months later (still within my year of a locked-in rate) I called to request documentation regarding our agreement because I needed it. I spoke to Brandon (more on him later) and was told the requested documentation would be emailed by the next day, shocker, the email never came. I called Brandon back the following day to ask what the hold-up was and given a reasonable lame duck excuse which I accepted. 3 things stood out to me during my calls with Brandon that I'd never encountered with any reputable business in the US before ... 1. My 1st phone call to Compass Moving Group was forwarded to Brandon's personal cell phone and when he answered the phone he mistook me, a customer, for one of his employees (weird, but true) 2. On my 2nd call I asked for the email to be sent before we got off the phone and Brandon could not satisfy my request. Legit companies can auto-send/generate emails on demand - It was after the 2nd phone call where I dug deeper into the consumer review history of Compass Moving Group 3. When I called Brandon the 3rd time and decided to cancel my reservation because I had not received the requested documentation he wouldn't let me. Let me explain that, it was upon my cancellation request that Brandon admitted to being a moving broker and not a moving company. According to Brandon because of that nuanced difference all monies paid to Compass Moving Group was not subject to a refund. We politely haggled over what was a reasonable refund since I was cancelling over the phone months out from my move date. Brandon told me to contact their head of billing, a woman named "Deija", and provided a toll free number she could be reached at. Alas, the toll free number was to an answering machine and I doubt this "Deija" individual exists. It was at that time I realized I was scammed so I called Brandon for a 4th & 5th time where I got his voicemail and after jumping through hoops I involved my bank After I involved my bank Compass Moving Group (Brandon) finally honored my cancellation request but not because I requested it, but because I involved my bank and disputed the charge which is on par with scammer company behavior and business practices. I was fortunate to only lose money during my engagement with this fraudulent company. My heart goes out to the many people Compass Moving Group successfully scammed and left in the lurch to pick-up the pieces of their disatorious moving experience. I'm posting this review so it's read by future customers considering this company and my advice is simple, do your research and avoid Compass Moving Group like the plague they are. We needed movers from Vermont to Utah in April 2022. Many moving companies didn't service our area or were very short handed and could not accommodate our dates. I found Compass who told us they could certainly take care of us. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Joe detailing our belongings which was not that much as we sold our 3 bedroom townhome completely furnished including kitchenware. We agreed upon a price of $2500. The day before the movers were to arrive, Compass called to again "go over" my belongings. At this point I had everything in 5 different piles and closets only held items to be moved. I spent over an hour sending pictures of my 5 piles and the closets. I was then told that the move would need "more boxes". The move would now cost an additional $1500. We had no choice but to accept. The day of the move, the sub contracted movers arrive. They look at my stuff and proceed to tell me we need additional boxes totaling another $1000. I pushed back and told him we spent over an hour yesterday with Compass and sent pictures of every single pile to be moved. I said I refuse to spend any more money. He makes a call and backs down. Compass quoted us at 70+ boxes. 34 boxes were used but we were charged the full amount. There is so much bait and switch with this company that you absolutely cannot trust "a quote" from them. To further our frustrations, when we were ready for delivery in Utah they do not return your phone calls. You will need to call 10-15 times and leave messages before anyone will call you back. They had a moving carrier show up and assess our move and quoted us at $12,800 when our initial estimate was $4,500. I offered to get rid of a lot of things including our largest item (3 piece sectional couch) and they still said it would be minimum $9,000. Compass estimate was a scam to get your deposit and then hire a terrible moving company with no accountability. They're employees who all have fake names (ie Jason Smith, Lisa Jones) are unprofessional and combative during the entire process. They initially offered me $600 of my deposit back over 3 weeks (which is pathetic and odd), I told them to kick rocks and I will expose them and get my money back someway. After talking to basically the whole company and letting them know I was not going away they offered me around $1200 a few days later lol. Turned that down and want to expose these scam artists. The contract in a fine-fine print will mention the moving window of 3-4 days is not guaranteed, so if you vacate your apt / house on time--good luck. I tried to call to cancel once I found out they were a broker and could not get a hold of anyone when I finally did get a hold of them a young un professional kid answered and was telling me I was lucky to be only charged $1900.00 because they hare more expenses than this because they have started the moving process. The guesstimated time frame was between 10-21 days delivery. The 21 days passed before we received our belonging. Calls to the actual moving company were fruitless, they lied to us and were rude. Extremely bad experience. Compass contracted with a local mover in Las Vegas, US Base Moving, who was a scam artist. He loaded the van beyond the cubic feet in our contract, telling us we had 2500 cubic feet in a 773 cubic feet contract & demanded $15,000 for our $4,900 contract. When we measured the van ourselves, it was 1600 cubic feet & our stuff filled 2/3 of the space, not to the top, so about 925 cubic feet. We asked him to unload 200 cubic feet and he refused, becoming belligerant, bullying and insulting. He started to remove our boxes on the street, rip open the boxes and throwing our possessions on the street and in the yard. We called Compass & got voicemail. The mover called Compass and got a person who combined his false numbers with our measured numbers and offered to do the move for $8,200, totally disragarding our current contract. The problem was, we could absolutely not trust this mover and could not continue with him. Compass offered to contract with another local company within the next few days. We no longer trust their vetting service and asked to terminate our contract with them and for our deposit of $1709.54 to be returned. They refused. Once we were off the phone with Compass, meanwhile, the current mover held our possessions for ransom. Now he demanded $1250 to unload the van and put the boxes in our garage, rather than dumping our possessions on the street. We called the police, but they never came. We feared for our physical safety. The mover had clearly done this before because he orchestrated each stage of the process smoothly, according to his plan. He was nice most of the day when we packed the houselhold items and moved them into the truck. We worked with him and 4 other loaders. Suddenly, at the end of the day, his personality completely reversed - he became irrrational and crazy-acting. We paid him $1250 to put our boxes in our garage. With Compass we're out $1250 plus our deposit of $1709.54 and nothing got moved. read more

Compass Moving Group hit the mark for me. From my initial call to get pricing information all the way through back end support for invoicing, I never left a conversation needing more information. Moving can be a stressful situation, my move was no different. I had a few snafus during the move with the actual space allotment on the truck, but the backend support of a Compass Moving Group rockstar named Hope, kept me on the ground and worked diligently to resolve my issues. Some people may not be used to space allocation versus weight pricing for HHG shipment. Be sure to fully understand the model Compass uses...it can be tricky to wrap your head around the first time. Do not do business with this mover. They are a broker and won't commit to pickup or drop off dates. They say they have a 7 day cancellation period but it's really 3 days. They kept my $900 deposit. read more

This was a nightmare from the second we gave them a deposit on. To start, we talked with a man named Calloway who promised us they were straight forward and did not bait and switch customers. He told us to look at their reviews which were positive, around a 4.5 star rating. We signed on to move 400 cubic feet and were given the estimate of 3,500. We measured the boxes and knew we were under that. However they asked for "inventory" the day before the move. During which we let them know a portion of the furniture was a small children sized playset.. During that time, we dealt with a man named Michael. I gave him the inventory and specified that it was a child sized playset. After the inventory the price jumped to 6,500. We called them to express our concern and upset over the almost double price once again explained that it was not your average sized furniture. Calloway told us that it was standard procedure to make sure that there was room on the truck, because oftentimes people underestimate and then have no space. He assured us that in the end we would not be charged for space we did not use. We asked for our deposit back, so we could start over and it was then they told us it was nonrefundable. So, we moved forward. We ended up coming in at 398 cubic feet, the movers agreed. We were unable to get through to the compass for the next few weeks. regarding the difference. After calling their customer service line repeatedly, I finally called the new customer line and immediately got through, and spoke to JOSH. Josh confirmed that there had been a request for a review of the paperwork, which he then said had unfortunately hadn't been followed up on.he also stated that he could see very clearly on his end all of the updates, he said that my number hadn't been calling and i explained that i have been calling from my office number which varied. He told me they would get back to me by the following wednesday. They didnt I called Josh again and he said he was very disappointed in the customer service department and that we deserved a call back.That weekend I called multiple times until I finally got a call back from a woman named Riley. Riley told me the opposite of what Calloway said and that by signing the paperwork we were locked into that price, the worst part was she completely agreed with me and believe me that it happened but was "unwilling to help UNLESS I removed a negative review I left and agreed to sign paperwork that i wouldn't leave another one." This is extremely distressing as they specifically told us to check their positive reviews. I agreed to remove the review and never heard back from them. A woman named HOpe started calling my Aunt who was in no way involved in the move and saying she had been repeatedly trying to reach her regarding a settlement. We called hope MULTIPLE times and my poor mom called everyday for a while. We left voicemails stating they had the wrong number and to please call us and we have not heard back. Since then I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and see that their actual company rating is 1.5 stars. It is clear by their responses to the multiple complaints there that they have no regard for their customers and borderline antagonize them there. This is a far cry from the original representation they gave us prior to taking our deposit. I would encourage anyone to review the complaints on the BBB page for Boca Raton and get a more clear idea of what your experience would be. read more

Robert was my sales rep. Very polite and informative in the beginning and even set me up with 2 car shipping service quotes as well. Once I got my quote, we went over it together, and he explained everything in detail. He started requesting I sign things immediately and give over my card information with a downpayment of over 1100 dollars to secure our move date. As soon as I said "I would like to review this with my husband before signing and paying" Robert immediately got weird and offended trying to push me into it. We got off the phone and I started looking up the car companies he was trying to pair me up with- both had 1-star ratings and horrible reviews. So, I made the decision not to go with any of the companies, including compass moving because why would they even try to set me up with a horribly rated company and expect me to trust them? The next morning, Robert texted me to follow up. I expressed my concerns and asked him to kindly take me off the contact list. He tried to argue with me and quickly turned the conversation into an unprofessional manner by replying to me with "lols". Do not waste your time with these guys. read more

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had!!! They are real kind initially to get your money, then they turn sour. They went through my stuff and told me for $2500 everything would be moved and I could move 17 boxes. Then, a "Quality Assurance" guy called before the move and told me the initial guy and quoted me the wrong price. I could only move 12 boxes. I ended up Taking half the stuff off the initial quote including an office desk and chair and another bed, which brought me up to 15 boxes. When the movers got there, they told me once again that Compass had "misquoted the move". They ended up only moving my bedroom set, bed, flat screen TV and 7 boxes for the initial quote!!! I had to go through the 15 boxes real quick and see what I wanted them to move and what I should sell/find another way. The nightmare does not stop there!! They stored the stuff for free until 11 May 2023. I called Way to Go Moving and Compass Moving on May 10th and said I have not heard from anyone. I told Compass Moving that I needed to inform the person I bought the house from when they were coming so I could get access to the house. They said no problem the movers would call me tomorrow (May 11, 2023) and give me an estimate. They didn't call May 11th as promised, they didn't call the 12th, but called today and said they would be delivering tomorrow, Mothers Day. The person I'm buying the house from is out of town for Mother's Day. I called Compass Moving Company and explained this. Even though they didn't call me like they said they would, I was basically told this is my fault and I should read my contract because they can just call the day before, even if the next day is a Holiday. They also said "There will be additional charges" if they have to deliver it later than Mother's Day. I ended up renting a storage unit for them to deliver these items to. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!! Call a local company that will give you an accurate quote!! Had to load my Subaru and tie boxes to the top to move the stuff they said they would move and didn't! They are not a moving company; they are a broker and hire the lowest bidder movers!! read more

My advice is to not use Compass Moving Group as we had a horrible experience. In early August I contracted with Compass based upon their competitive pricing, 5-star ratings their sales person sent and representations that they could complete my move in the 7-10 days time period for an 1,800 mile move. The first trouble occurred when they never called to confirm the pickup window (Aug 14/15) and did not show up. Since it was the weekend and their offices are not open, it took 2 days to get in touch with someone and I was told our "move slipped through the cracks with a couple others". It took another two days to rearrange the pickup which occurred on Aug 18th. Unfortunately, Compass will contract with any mover and does not care about their reputation or consider their ability. Compass brokered us to S&M Relo who was horrible and the reviews on BBB and Yelp attest to their incompetence. Our move took 30 days, several items were lost and throughout the entire process there was no communication or customer service of any kind to help from Compass to resolve my issues. Bottom line, if you have a small move, do yourself a favor and rent a U-Haul to move it yourself. Your will have a better chance for all the furniture to arrive on time and undamaged. read more
