Impressed by their website we received a very competitive quote compared to other options we reviewed. Assembly Squad delivered over and above, finished the project on budget and faster than expected. Assembly Squad completed a kitchen and bath renovation on a rental unit in my home. They are affordable and do know their way around IKEA products. Their recommendation to work with Melinda for design was helpful - 5 stars for her. That being said, you certainly get what you pay for with this company. Their subcontractors were good, and the work they performed seems sufficient (we'll see how it holds up), however project management/communication was a nightmare. The left hand is certainly not talking to the right hand with these guys. Plan on quitting your full-time job, because you'll need to be there managing your own renovation step by step. (GC lives in Michigan apparently, so needless to say he wasn't really keeping tabs on the work being done.) Simple things like telling us that a contractor was coming on Friday, and they'd show up unannounced on Thursday - easy thing to remedy with a quick text - but that didn't happen. Expect some annoying little "nickel and dime" billing with them as well. For example, we were told to order additional IKEA products - that we discovered *ourselves* were actually not needed - costing us in shipping fees. They offered to return the items to IKEA, then billed us for making the trip. (A heads up would have been nice.) They also billed us to move supplies stored in our backyard/garage into the house - again, I could have moved it myself had I known. Bottom line - would I hire them again? Probably not. I knew I wanted to do a great looking remodel for my tired old condo kitchen. I found a great designer (who used IKEA cabinet components while we outsourced doors and hardware that were a bit upgraded) and now that same designer works for this company! Assembly Squad is great! They held my hand throughout the whole process, gave me realistic but surprisingly quick start-to-finish dates. They have a great process that allowed me to live in my condo even while the last steps were going on. The partners at the company are both very energetic and solid citizens. None of that "be back Tuesday' & vanish for 3 weeks stuff - they set deadlines and they keep them. Anyone who says their prices are high is a novice at construction. We had a small kitchen remodeling project done by Assembly Squad in November and we are totally satisfied with their service from the very beginning. We are the 1st-time homeowner so honestly, we knew nothing about home improvement. Viktor guided me through the whole project and answered all my questions. Tim came to our apartment and carefully measured everything and explained what they were going to do. They provided all the documented requested by our HOA and followed all of their strict rules. Tim then kindly bought the materials from Ikea for us with very reasonable extra charge. Victor who did the actual work was an excellent carpenter. He was very professional and honest. He also did the nice backsplash.The countertop guy they recommended was also great and efficient. We scheduled the project around Thanksgiving holiday and they finished demolition and installing cabinets within two weeks. Assembly squad remodeled our kitchen and did a fantastic job. They were easy to work with, and made the process easy and seamless. We knew going into the project what we wanted our kitchen to look like and needed help to make it happen. They took care of the IKEA portion of the kitchen install. Our kitchen cabinet fronts were from Semihandmade and they got those installed for us too. We picked out the subway tile backsplash, which they also installed for us and even returned at our request, to fix some of the tiles when we had electrical work redone for under cabinet lighting. They designed and rehabbed a very updated galley kitchen in my in-law's pre-war condo building, and converted an old Murphy bed alcove into a multi-functional work space and bar. We also started right at the beginning of the pandemic, and they made it happen in spite of IKEA's logistical red tape during Covid. Sent an online request for a quote on assembling and installing some IKEA kitchen cabinets for a basement area, and included the IKEA layout. Disappointed to receive an email response that Assembly Squad has a 10 cabinet minimum (even tho that restriction is not listed on the website, or if it is, I didn't see it). Since this layout only had 5 cabinets (and an open shelving wall unit), they didn't want the job. Was really hoping to have them do the work, the reviews looked great and they had the expertise to handle a sink hookup to the water pipes. read more

I can't even begin to explain how Awesome my experience with Assembly Squad was. I contacted them early Saturday morning & they were able to send someone over Sunday morning. It took about 3 hours to build my wardrobe. Viktor called me in the middle of the project to make sure everything was well. He processed my payment on the phone & was so kind. After my worker left, I noticed the base was a little down turned and I cracked it when I tried to move it. Viktor sent the guy back to my house to make sure the unit was ok; he moved it to another wall for me & mounted it. Not only did they complete the job in a timely fashion, they answered all our questions and spent as much time as necessary with us to make sure the job was done right. Additionally, our cabinet hardware did not come in before they finished the job and they came back to install it and did not charge us extra. Also, they offer a service where they go to IKEA purchase your kitchen, and deliver it to the site. This service is WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN GOLD! If you've done much research about ordering at IKEA, you know it can turn into a complete nightmare- missing parts, incorrect configurations, etc. They took care of ALL of this for a nominal fee and even returned to IKEA for an additional trip so we didn't have to. They even looked over our kitchen design (completed by Traemand- terrible reviews, don't even think about having them do the install) and made changes that improved the functionality and aesthetic of our kitchen. I used Assembly Squad this past weekend to put together a bed and a massive dresser, and couldn't be happier with the service. I requested a quote on Thursday through the site and had an email with a time and cost estimate within an hour. We went back and forth on scheduling since it was pretty short notice for needing someone on Saturday, but they were really accommodating and were able to send someone within the timeframe that worked. Tim was the guy who assembled everything and he did an awesome job. It took about an hour longer than initially estimated, but it was worth the wait. In the end, if it's going to take a professional 5-6 hours to assemble furniture, it would have taken me at least 3x longer, so definitely worth the cost. The cost, by the way, was actually a little cheaper than the three other companies I contacted. read more

Moving is a truly frustrating and tiring endeavor but I actually enjoyed speaking with Viktor and having Angel and Jacob come to build my furniture. I had a drawer that everyone online claimed would take 6 hours to build but Jacob did it in about 2 and a half hours! Angel was a true professional and completely understood what each item needed. These guys are awesome - plain & simple. Viktor, Tim, and the full team did an excellent job with a cabinet design & installation project. They were attentive, responsive, professional, & even very competitively priced! I had previously worked with a designer hired by IKEA for my project - but when Viktor & Tim reviewed the plans that designer put together they immediately stepped in to improve on the design. After spending a few hours together refining the initial designer's work, the guys from Assembly Squad took my materials list (generated by the IKEA planning app) & went to work! Finally have a chance to write a review. Assembly Squad is hands down one of the best services. We originally hired them to put together some Ikea furniture - a desk, bookcases and 2 PAX wardrobes. Not the type of work for a couple of rookies. Viktor, handles all the scheduling and Peter is the contractor. Peter and Martin completed all the projects in a couple of hours. But we still wanted more. After a very unsuccessful attempt to work with Ikea's kitchen services, we turned to Assembly Squad again. They do more than just put stuff together. Peter helped us design the entire kitchen and completed a full gut renovation - from studs to finish. I've had the kitchen for almost a year and I still love it. First off, their entire team is excellent, professional, speedy, and courteous, I couldn't have asked for a better group on contractors to put together the puzzle of a kitchen we ordered from Ikea. Couldn't be happier with their work! A little backstory - we bought a 3 flat in Pilsen about 3 years ago and we've been rehabbing it every since. We did the first two apartments pretty much by ourselves, rented them out and moved into the top unit at the same time we started to renovate. It turns out I can only tolerate living in construction for a couple years and work was getting busier so we contracted out most of the work on that unit. You win some and lose some - our electrician was a nightmare, the carpenter was going nuts trying to make everything perfectly square in a 120 year old building... but when it came to the kitchen the Assembly Squad really saved our a*****! We bought the measuring service through Ikea in Bolingbrook ($199 refunded via gift certificate after you purchase the kitchen), they in turn contract it out to Traemand who is based out of Denver and doesn't have a physical office in Chicago. The two people who came out were very nice, seemingly professional, I felt great after our 4 hour appointment and we had a plan for the kitchen at the end with a quote for their installation services. Fast forward a few weeks - we are ready to make the plunge so we go out to Ikea and find a kitchen specialist... after 2 more hours of waiting everything is in the computer and ordered, scheduled to be delivered after the weekend. I called Traemand back to schedule the installation and I'm routed around to voicemail both times that day (it was a Friday around 1pm CST) and then finally get through via email and I'm told that our representative will call us first thing on Monday to schedule something. Strike 1. Monday comes around and no one calls in the morning. I call them in the afternoon and again with the voicemail. Finally I get a call back late in the afternoon and I'm told it will be 3+ weeks until they can get someone out there... ugh (strike 2). I schedule it anyways and get on with my life. The next day I decided to see if there was anyone else that installs Ikea kitchens, that is when I came across the Assembly Squad. They came back with a prompt quote that beat Traemand plus they were able to start in a day. MUSIC TO MY EARS! They also pointed out some questionable items on the plan that Traemand has come up with - some of the measurements were off by more than 6 inches! A set of cabinets that was already in our kitchen wouldn't fit, no outlets or light switches were taken into account (the room is a giant dry-walled empty space, there's no way to overlook that). Our GC came by and confirmed what they had told us (STRIKE 3 for Traemand). I canceled Traemand (dont sign their contracts!) and hired Assembly Squad. The next morning I was greeted by 2 guys who came and dove right into the kitchen. They said it would take about 2 days to finish and seemed to progress very quickly. They ran into some issues with the levelness which took a significant amount of extra time but we weren't charged extra, they switched out the cabinet that didn't fit as well, and really went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect! It took a little longer, about 3 days total, but their work is perfect, they even came back and made adjustments when the counter top service (Ikea also contracts that out) needed slight adjustments made. So weeks before Traemand could even get a person out to our place, the Assembly Squad had corrected and completed the entire kitchen... for less money. They're all local guys so there's an accountability there that's missing with Traemand and it really show! Everyone took pride in doing an excellent job and I would work with them again without hesitations (if only they did masonry and foundation work... haha)! I was so happy with the finished product that I even broke my multi-year Yelp sabbatical to make sure that everyone knows just how excellent these guys are! Do not use these guys!! Quality sucks, not once did Viktor check on status and his partner came twice in beginning but never again or even to check on status. Watch your quote and proposal, they leave stuff out to nickel and dime you later. On top of all that, he raises his voice to women and is condescending. Horrible!!!! read more

I stand by my initial review. I did like the job they had done initially and that is why I wanted them to do my second job. However their not getting back to me to set up an appointment was very inconvenient as I had invited guests over and had to cancel . For me not hearing anything from them indicated an unprofessional approach to their business. I did not appreciate the call from the company asking me to take down my review. He offered to do something free for me. I have no more furniture to assemble and it was too late. As I refused to change my review as I feel it it is truthful and fair he became more and more angry and argued that I should rescind the review. VIktor at Assebly Squad was a real pain in the neck to work with throughout the entire process. He made estimating problematic. Each time a new part of issue came up he issued a new invoice "FOR IMMEDIATE PAYMENT" for $25 or $75 dollars. Very disruptive. This was a large, multi-unit job and this company has no empathy and little process for dealing with complexity. Additionally, both large cabinets have doors that don't close properly. Kitchen cabinets aren't fully "set" and several pieces were not quite right. We did let them "go" and found another Ikea installer to finish the job. I would not recommend. This review is by a real, paying client who is dissatisfied with all aspects of doing business with assembly squad. This type of aggressive response by Viktor only highlights my experience. read more

Buyer beware. We recently had Assembly Squad try to install our new kitchen. I started out with really high hopes. I felt I did my due diligence by checking references and oh how I was wrong. Viktor started out great but things quickly went down hill. I am not sure if it is because IKEA recently changed their kitchens but I basically had to have all of their work corrected. They did not level the cabinets correctly, they did not line up the doors and drawer cabinets correctly, they did not put in all the finished panels that they needed to, they told me I was missing the mechanisms to have soft close on my doors and I was not they were right in a pile of "extra" pieces that they left behind. Ernesto and Viktor were argumentative throughout the process. Just plain unpleasant all the way around. The contractor I had correct the work could not believe I paid them. I really cannot express what a waste of time and money they were. If this review keeps one person from dealing with what we did then I have done my social duty. Look elsewhere. read more

Now that we're finally settled in our house and enjoying our new IKEA kitchen, I found the time to write a review for this company. Let me put it simply, if I could give 10 stars, I would. Assembly Squad is probably the best service company I have ever dealt with. Lightning fast response time, true professionals to work with(Viktor and Tim), fair prices and quality work that is second to none! I used Assembly Squad to install IKEA cabinets in our kitchen and wish I would have had more work for them. From the minute I received my quote, to scheduling the job, to the onsite install and clean up, to the post job follow up...everything was top notch. I can't say enough. Tim, the project manager, even offered to run back out to IKEA from the city to grab a door handle that I had forgot to purchase. Most companies wouldn't even think of that offer, let alone doing it. Don't be fooled by the ficticious one star reviews here. To make it easier, throw out the best 5 star reviews and the worst five reviews and see what you are left with.....yep, you'll still be left with all five star reviews, for good reason. The bottom line: If you have anything from IKEA (or other flat pak products) that needs to be assembled, this is the company you need to use. Period. Can't wait to use Assembly Squad again! This service was fantastic. I hired them back in May to put together all the furniture for a 2br high rise Chicago apartment - all in one eveniing. Since I found them on the internet, I was placing blind trust in them, but they didn't disappoint. The owner, Viktor, was a pleasure to deal with and the assemblers (a father and son) were professional, prompt, quick, and assembled everything perfectly. I contacted Viktor with the pieces that I needed to have put together and he was able to get a crew out to my home the very next morning. We purchased about a dozen cabinets from Ikea to redo our kitchen and figured we would put them together ourselves. How hard could it be? Then the Ikea truck dropped off 135 boxes and we knew we were in over our heads. Ikea was no help---if you don't purchase installation service at the time you buy the cabinets, you can't purchase it later on. I was so glad to find Assembly Squad and relieved to find Viktor so easy to work with. The price was more than if we'd used Ikea's installer, but the service was great and we love our new kitchen. I'd recommend Assembly Squad to anyone who finds that their Ikea project is more than they can handle. read more

Just yesterday Assembly Squad was at my house and assembled 3 pieces of Ikea furniture: a bed, vanity, and a tall dresser. THIS WAS SOME OF THE BEST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT. First, I contacted Assembly Squad on the weekend and was quoted a price within minutes. After accepting the price, I was immediately scheduled for Monday morning. How fabulous is that? I personally don't think I could've put these items together, but even if I could have, it would've taken probably 5 times as long as AS did. And with a ton of frustration. Assembly Squad is Amazing! My husband & I purchased a custom made wall bed which arrived unassembled. We did however receive a "video" with with extremely difficult assembly instructions.... "Piston Lift Mechanism" and "Wall Bed Lighting System". I panicked! I called Assembly Squad and told Viktor my dilemma. "Not a problem" he said. He told me Ernesto would be calling me to set up an appointment and go over the details of the job. Ernesto arrived on time and began to assemble the wallbed. He was a PRO! They went above and beyond the service we agreed on--assembling an Ikea bed, dresser, nightstand and mounting a tv--by also convincing me of the safety of mounting a mirror on the wall rather than leaning it on the wall atop a dresser, and a last minute sconce that I didn't think to mention in the first estimate email. They were polite, efficient, had reasonable fees, and pretty damned decent human beings aside from doing their job well.
