As new to town, we followed the instructions on their website which involved filling out detailed and involved registration forms - we did this for both of our children and received an automated message we would hear back within 24 hours. We never heard back at all. I even emailed the front desk to ask if our registration had come through and to inquire about scheduling an appointment and never received a reply from them either. Giving two stars as the doctors are kind (although you'll wait an hour to be seen) but there are plenty of other pediatric offices where you'll get a warmer experience. This is one of the most unprofessional experiences I've had with any pediatrician and I have had a few of them, from San Francisco, Vancouver, and Chicago. To start, every time I go there with my children, I wait about 30min - 45 min, even though I come on time. Most importantly, the quality of care is nothing spectacular, but what separates them apart is the money-grabbing attitude. The whole business is built on charging exuberant fees and making insane profits made on sick children. During the last visit, I've waited 45 min, came with both of my daughters for suspicion of strep throat. Doctor Varghese saw both of them for no more than 5 min in total, prescribed two tests, and charged around $500, which included $310 for the "office visit" At this rate, just office visits alone would yield $3,720 / hour! The office staff is unprofessional, the billing department refused to make any adjustment to the bill, stating that it took time for the doctor to call me and to leave a voicemail about the test results! I would not recommend this office to anyone with a high deductible policy, anyone who is looking for a bit more than mediocre care at an inflated cost, anyone who values their time, convenience, and care for their children. read more

Only giving this 2 star because of some good doctors here. The office staff is horrible and always grumpy. They just assume things while you are talking to them without letting you finish or letting you completely talk. They will make judgements not knowing you may not know the stuff or are already aware. The billing staff is horrible as well. I called the lady one time in 3 years and she was rude and sarcastic. Most people working here don't want to work here. They do close 1 hour for lunch not sure why the anger, maybe they are not compensated well for the amount of work etc. Office is dirty not visually but they don't have properly cleaning protocols. I highly doubt they sanitize daily. One time I took my kid for his annual checkup and he ended up contracting a virus and was sick for 3 months. The doctors was like we are seeing so many kids with the same things-- I was going to say ofcourse because your office created the dirty environment for the kids to get sick at the first place. Some of the ladies working there have huge fake nails which could also collect germs and pass it on germs. FYI- I am in medical profession so I know about how germs are created, passed on and what environment they need to thrive. Kids are precious and need proper care and attention. I was with this facility for almost 5 years but their standards have fallen down as they have seen an increase in patients. They act like they are running a charity business and doing you a favor by giving you an appointment. Their attitude is unbearable. I would not recommend this office until they make changes. Changes to begin with staff. Should have separate area for sick kids vs non sick kids. A wonderful practice! The practice has been around for decades, and has a solid reputation and loyal customer base. The online reviews by a few truly does not represent the majority of the patients. All the doctors place care of the patient first, and at any given time one of them can be reached 24/7 by office visit, phone, or special appointment. New parents are their specialty, and as father of 3 children who are patients of the wonderful doctors I can personally attest to all of the above! read more

I had recent surgery and couldn't drive our daughter and wonderful Magali ensured our daughter was seen and cared for promptly to avoid future complications. By accommodating our appointment request, Magali (professional. working Mom as well) listened and understood my husbands work hour challenge and ensured our daughter received the care she needed. I've been a patient here for 20 years. All of the doctors are extremely kind and knowledgeable, and they really make an effort to get to know their patients. The staff are friendly and personable. The office is very efficient while still being able to take the time needed with each patient. I have been bringing my two children to Assoc Pediatrics for 15 years and the doctors and nurses are the best. Dov Shapiro has amazing expertise in asthma and allergies. His care and recommendations immediately helped my son (after seeing 3 other doctors). My kids have gone through years of sicknesses and wellness check ups and we have always been thrilled with the care of the doctors. Dr Shapiro has been an important influence on my son's life because of his wonderful care. Many of our friends also love this practice. The doctors go the extra step to provide complete instructions and even follow up with a call home if necessary. Dr Shapiro and Dr Varghese have an amazing rapport kids and with teens. The office is open 365 days a year and you can always been seen when your kids are sick (even holidays) - which saved us many times. read more

All their bragging about how no one has to sit in the waiting room is kind of fruitless when you spend no less than half an hour waiting for the pediatrician to see you. On more than one occasion I spent an hour waiting. To the point that a nurse would pop in to let me know that I hadn't been forgotten. And each time the pediatrician says the same thing, "sorry, it's been a busy day". Given that it's always the same apology, maybe it's not just a busy day, maybe you're staff need to be retrained on scheduling. There are more issues with this practice, but scheduling is the worst one. read more

I do not recommend this practice to first-time parents who are serious about breastfeeding. The doctors all said they were supportive of breastfeeding, but I found the information they gave me related to breastfeeding to be unhelpful and discouraging. The place where I got truly helpful information, as well as encouragement and self-confidence, was at Kids First in Skokie. They have nurses on staff who are certified lactation consultants, and they work collaboratively with the pediatricians in the office. We went there for breastfeeding support. I wish I had transferred my children there entirely. When we moved out of the area, we were charged a fee to transfer our records to the new pediatrician. Our new ped was surprised - apparently this is not standard practice. Like the other reviewer, we had our own frustrations with the administrative side of this practice - but I could have forgiven that if I really liked the experience I had with the doctors. read more

I feel terrible for the parents who had bad experiences at Associated Pediatrics. I was just getting their phone number and noticed the bad reviews and was taken back. I have been bringing my two children there for the past three years and haven't had one bad experience. I have not however had to deal with any type of insurance or payment issues. That being said, the doctors there are all very good. If you live in the area and read the negative reviews then you are only hearing one side of a story. Of course, as with anything, some people connect better with certain places or people better than others. I am a very straightforward person. I like to know the facts and to get in and out of a place without a lot of extra time being spent on anything other than what I went somewhere for. Not to say if I had questions that weren't part of the scheduled appointment they wouldn't be answered here. They are very professional, they are personable, and all the doctors are equally as attentive. Dr. Hunt was the first doctor we saw and I found her to be very warm. She offered plenty of resources outside of what she could provide for my son, who has special needs. Since then she has followed up on his progress every appointment since. We don't always see her because I am a last minute appointment scheduler- our family schedule can be unpredictable based on mine and my husbands work schedules. Every other doctor we have seen with him has been able to transition easily into being sensitive to his needs. As far as getting shots, I may sound insensitive but I think it is better for a nurse to just get in there and give the shot. It has to be done and, again in my opinion, is the parents job to give the emotional support. ALL the nurses here have been great. Getting a shot is difficult, giving a shot to a screaming child must not be that easy either. No matter how many times they do it I'm sure a nurse doesn't enjoy this aspect of the job and just tries to get it done. Nurses are human and can make mistakes like any other one of us humans. We have been seeing the doctors at Associated Pediatric Partners for 5 years and have been happy with the care. We mostly see Dr Shapiro and Dr Hunt. Both of those doctors are excellent at managing complex care and special needs. At two different times, I've had kids in the hospital, and Dr Shapiro called the hospital everyday for an update and then called me to make sure I understood everything and was getting good care. The hospitalists were impressed and told me pediatricians aren't always so involved. I would agree! read more

Dov Shapiro MD and the staff at Associate Pediatrics are incredible! We switched to their office in 2009 after a problem elsewhere and have been happy ever since. At times, there is a wait to see your physician, though this is because they take the time that they need with every single patient. It can be hard to schedule that attention to detail. When we have truly needed them, they have been there with bells on. My son is at IU. He found out in the middle of finals, 3 days before graduation, that his girlfriend's unvaccinated roommate had the mumps. I called the office. Dr. Shapiro ordered blood work for both of my kids immediately so we could be sure they were both immune before we drove down there. We were NOT missing graduation. Especially important since my daughter works with infants, who have not yet had their own shots. The office followed up on the blood work to be sure both of my children were protected. So amazing! The way medicine should be - putting the needs of you and your family first and foremost. Absolutely worth any wait to know that they are caring for your babies, no matter how old they are. read more

Our children have multiple medical problems, that require specialized care and coordination with hospitals and doctors out-of-state. The doctors always go above and beyond to sort out any problems. This is the WORST experience I have ever had with any kind of healthcare in my life. When it's for my three children, it's 100 times worse. I'm not referring to a single encounter, but rather 6+ since we moved here in July and were unfortunately cornered into going here for insurance reasons. It is the only practice within our network for our out-of-state insurance. The first time, after several back and forth, attempts to register our insurance over the phone, they had me come in for physicals and immunizations, insisting I was registered and good to go. I arrived and NO, I was met with a barely apologetic administrator who could not get my insurance registered. They also refused to call the number on the back of my card to deal with the issue. "Sorry, they don't want us taking time to do that, so that's your responsibility." So I had to reschedule after I dealt with the problem. I went back with my kids and the staff lacked any compassion or friendliness towards my kids. They basically grabbed my 5 yo's wrist and slammed it on the counter and did the finger prick with barely any warning to her. No smiles, jokes, eye contact. Next was the immunizations she needed. Same awful brusqueness. Obviously my daughter left terrified and upset! Worst part was the CBC couldn't be processed because the blood clotted before they got it to the lab! I had to bring my traumatized child back to them for the same finger prick and this time they did it in the messiest way--there was blood running down the nurse's gloved hand and arm, all over my daughter's hand, and several spots on her clothing. She wasn't even moving, just sweaty apparently. Awesome. I finally switched to the BG location because I was sick of their horrible attitudes and unorganized staff. BG was a little better...and thankfully our new insurance was starting so we could run from this practice and not look back. Too bad it's the same staff there, just a newer building with more space in each room. Dr Hunt saw my son and was more kind, but barely let him answer a question when she asked one. She was obviously rushed, which is too bad because I had questions about his speech development. She told me to just call once he starts school if I have the same concerns. I would've loved her to take time with him and talk so she could actually form an opinion. We also had a billing issue, which caused a problem since our new insurance was starting. They billed our old insurance after it had ended because for some reason it took about 3 weeks for them to process the charges for our visit. Finally, I just called to have records faxed to our new pediatrician..."There's a $20 fee AND you need to provide us with a written letter to transfer your child's records." I'm going to go there this afternoon and just obtain them myself. This practice is uninviting, disorganized and basically backwards. Don't go here. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! SORRY this review is long but just read! I wish I would have read the reviews before coming to this place, I had just received a new medical card and my son had the flu, so I was looking for a pediatrician asap so I didn't really have time to look up reviews so I ended up choosing this place WORST mistake. From the moment I called the receptionist informed me I would have to call my insurance and ask if I was covered at this facility which I knew I was because I had just gotten off the phone and was informed I was indeed. So I call my insurance and they say I am able to go here and they change my provider to a doctor here. I then call again and speak with another receptionist and explain the situation that I am indeed covered here she then asks for my son's member ID and says she can't find that she has to go on another computer the whole time on the phone she is sighing and growning like she is annoyed cuz she is not able to find him in the system finally she does and I have an appointment later that day. So I go in and say I have an appointment & they take some info and ask for my insurance card and before I hand the card I tell the receptionist that this is the old card and that they will be mailing me a NEW card with the new doctors name on it. She takes a look at it and says Oh no this isn't the right doctor here not even paying attention to what I had just told her 1 min ago before handing the card I explain the whole ordeal that I changed doctors but my insurance said I am covered from the begining of this month, she just looks at it and says alright and takes a copy of it. Fast forward I am asked to go into room 2 so I make my way there I wait for the doctor and some lady comes in doesn't even introducing herself at this point I think she's the doctor but she's the nurse she asks me his symptoms and I let her know and she says they will be doing a flu test and she comes back and has me hold my son's arms and not even comforting him just shoves the stick down his throat and after in his nose with a different one. I am then waiting when another nurse comes in telling me that I am not in their system so I tell her the story once again at this point I have said this story a couple times and she says I have to call them myself and ask them, at this point I am frustrated. I tell them if they can contact them and ask cuz I called and they told me I was indeed covered and she informs me saying no we can't. So I call my provider and the nurse asks to speak with her after I confirm what I already had mention. She then says alright can you ask to them to fax that paper over, later one of the receptionist comes into the room handing me a copy were it says I am covered there and says to keep this in case I am to be charged ? Finally the doctor comes in and checks my son she does at least introduce herself. She then calls the nurses and says "can we get a weight for this new patient" as if to be annoyed that they aren't doing their job the correct way then once again calls them to set me up for a pharmacy things I suppose were suppose to be done the moment we came in but they were more concerned on me actually not be able to pay. As that happens another nurse comes in tells something to the doctor and she says Oh can you just go up there for them to get your pharmacy info then leaves to do something else. I get back and wait for her for like 5 min finally comes back into the room we finish everything she I ask if that's it and she says yes logs off her computer and leaves and I'm kinda like okay so I can go I move her chair which she didn't even bother to move when she left I exit the building without a goodbye or anything. When I leave the building I call my insurance and ask to switch immediately. I will never be going back to this facility they are in unprofessional, a bit rude and not caring at all, I'm sure as a parent you want your kids to go somewhere where they feel welcomed and with caring people, my child even said he did not like this place and didn't wanna go back and that was enough for me to never come back!! I'm sticking with Norhshore from now on. If I could give them no stars I honestly would. I've never in my life experienced something so frustrating to the point where I have to write a bad review about it till now. read more
