Absolutely stunning views, well maintained grounds. We came in early June, it was still a little cold but that did not damper our stay. We found the paved trail around the entire grounds lovely for a walk, and noted it would make travel for those in wheelchairs easy access to the entire camp ground. Pet friendly, but could use more waste receptacles for droppings. Staff is outgoing and helpful, cites are no closer than anywhere else and some cites offer hook ups on both sides so they can accomodate various rigs. Our site had a nice composite picnic table, fire pit and a packed gravel bed even site. As others have posted, yes it can be buggy but it's to be expected while camping waterside-and these are not biting bugs just slightly annoying. An employee suggested using a qtip to put essential oils around the screens of our rv-which absolutely deterred the bugs. Would recommend without hesitation. read more

The 4 stars is very much about location and view.... the campground in and of itself could use upgrading. The pool is fine for kids but basic... the activity center has no AC and basically a pool table. Showers/bathrooms no AC but are relatively clean. Dog run is overgrown, a bit flooded and very buggy so we didn't bring the dogs down there it's also very small. Maybe 20 x30. Park staff is very nice and camp store is well equipped. We reserved a lake front pull through site on Sunset side.. site is great; they are very close together but we are on lake and it's beautiful. We have to walk around to actually see the sunset though because we are on the south side of peninsula and the other campers block the view.. We will definitely come back... for the location. read more

Stay away from this KOA! After seeing mixed reviews, I had reason to be skeptical of this KOA. The WiFi was very fast and reliable, but that was one of the only positive aspects. The first sign that made me wary was the insufficient bathrooms facilities (very few toilets -maybe 10 total- for 300 sites). The bathroom towards the back of the campground only had two stalls per gender. After coming back from 4th of July fireworks, we were greeted by an insanely hot and stuffy camper because the power had been out for who knows how long. The power was out the entire night. Later in the morning we found out the outage was campground wide. We left in the morning to use bathroom facilities in another town, and on the way we found out that the power was supposed to be restored in 2 hours. But 3 hours later we returned and there was still no power or running water as well as no sign of people repairing the problem. Weather was not an issue, so I can only conclude that their electrical facilities are not able to handle the amount of sites they have when full. On top of it all, the staff ignored us on multiple occasions (although there were a few friendly ones), and one staff member even cut us off in a golf kart as we were heading back to our campsite. KOA has many other better options. I've had great experiences at many other KOAs, so I'd advise you to choose a different KOA. It's not worth it to stay on the island. read more

When I made my reservations, the desk person was very help and had great customer service skills. I did like the fact that they took us to our site. Views were very nice. Bugs were very bad. As soon as we pulled in, the camper was covered in bugs. Could not ride bikes because of the swarms. When I got home it took a long time to get them off the yawning. I did not have any issues with the manager but did witness three incidents where he does not have any patience or customer service skills. If you violate the rules he is very quick to kick people out instead of talking through the problem. The bugs were so bad that I will not be going back. I spoke with a co-worker who went later in the year and had the same problem with the bugs. read more

1000 Island KOA in Henderson, NY. I had read a ton of mixed reviews. We pulled in on Saturday. Wow, what a property. The water is absolutely beautiful. Their boat ramp and marina is top notch. Great for boating and fishing. Camp sites are gravel and most of the fire areas are so so. Lots of interior site, but the money sites are the water front sites. There are several and they are worth the extra money. Site were designed for Motorhomes to pull in so you have a view of the lake, very nice. They have sewer hook ups on both sides so you can pull or back in if you have TT. The breeze off the lake is amazing. Staff has been very friendly and talked to a few people who have been coming here for years and they said the new KOA management is making several improvements. I would recommend and plan on coming back some time in the future. read more

I won't say it's quiet here because you always have the wind and water noise. Lakeside and harborside campsites are more expensive but worth it. The pool is beautiful but cold. The laundry room (if you are traveling like we are, the laundry room is important) is clean and neat and little used. $2.00 a load (quarters) for washer or dryer. Lots of full hook-up sites, most of them with fire-rings. I hope they stay in business for the next hundred years so my kids and grandkids can enjoy staying here too! read more

Friendly staff and extremely CLEAN! They go above and beyond to make sure your stay is wonderful! They also take extreme measures to make sure everything is sanitized..even the golf carts! If you have a reservation or are planning on camping at Sun Outdoors Association Island, I would highly recommend canceling! Managers came around telling everyone that had waterfront sites that we couldn't sit 5 feet past our fire pit and couldn't sit along the water or have our chairs in the water. We could not even swim or float off our sites! We could kayak but had to exit the water immediately when done. This rule is not posted ANYWHERE. This decision was being imposed by the managers after two other campers had a disagreement amongst themselves and complained to management. So instead of dealing with the problematic campers, the managers decided to punish the entire campground. Needless to say, after one night of our three night reservation, we cancelled the remainder of our trip and went to Long Point State Park where the sites are just as beautiful and we CAN access the water from our sites! We also had a reservation for August that we cancelled. We paid more money for a premium water front site that we couldn't even use! Association Island has lost the return business of many campers who agree that this decision is RIDICULOUS over this. read more

An update the GM was very rude to us as he came to get payment for our stay, that according to him was all set on Monday when we checked in as we arrived on Friday evening late. When confronted about the mistake in their end he became belligerent and said well leave then. He gave us an unreasonable time frame to pack up our site and leave and then he call 911 and quite frankly falsified a report. When the troopers arrived we told them our story and then they went to get the other side, now mind you I was off the property when the troopers arrived. When they came back to tell us that we are not welcomed back along came the GM Mr. Clark. He is not a good fit for a family friendly KOA and we will be contacting the KOA association to log a complaint about Jeff Clark. I will let every camper know that this KOA is substandard at best read more

Glynda is not someone who should NOT be a representative of KOA. The crass reception and misinformation that we received made us feel as if we bothering them by asking relevant questions to our stay. The lawn crew will continue to weed whack even if you are sitting on your site reading. What a way to treat paying customers. The staff could learn some lessons on customer service, they were rude and caustic at best. 1 Washing machine worked out of four and there are 4 toilets and 4 showers for the whole place! Pool was shut down for an entire day, Wi fi was unusable. In the middle of the night the electric goes out and guess what happens to the CPAP user, they sit up all night. It was an isolated problem due to their equipment according to the electric company. Beautiful site. Contemplating going back. read more

Stayed at Association Island July 20-23, 2015. This campground really has potential to be a great recreational vacation spot. Due to the lack of ground care at campsites, knee hi grass that poses as is a breeding ground for bugs and mosquitoes. Excessive mosquitoes. It was uncomfortable to be outside at your campsite. Despite the really awful lake levels and being monsoon season this KOA crew did what they could to make our weekend stay a good one. We arrived on a very windy day with our old class A RV and got right in. They did assign us a slot right next to a group of other campers but we wanted a slot a bit more private for us and others this time out. They relocated us near the owner's cabin on the sunset side of the island and we had a great location. The store is stocked with just about all you need for camping. It is on an island so things like adult beverages and other things should be part of your packing list if you are used to having them. There was a local pizza shop that delivers to the KOA and their menu is available at the store. The campground was in it's second week of opening even with the high water levels and many staff not arriving as yet. Still, the folks there were responsive to our requests and my kids had fun pedaling on the carts and having the campfire. Because this was an off week the place was pretty empty and that was fine for our first trip in the LH2 RV. I like that this campground is in an isolated place that is quiet and you can unwind a bit and forget all the phone calls and emails (unless you sign up for wifi). A good decompression break for us working stiffs and business owners. The RV slots are gravel and somewhat overgrown but that's just fine with me. The dump stations and electric hookups have 50 amps, 30 amps and even 20 amp hookups! The potable water is right there as well and has great pressure. Effortless to dump my blackwater tank and use the shorepower (hey, this really is shorepower! being on an island!). The RV slot rates were reasonable and totally no hassle at all. You can explore this cool island and see some of the old buildings and places during your walks. I would go again and plan to. I just wish the weather and lake level would cooperate! read more

I have never been so disappointed with a place of business. I am not sure how the KOA brand allows to have their logo on a place with such horrible service. I wish I could give this place no stars but it doesn't allow me to do that so the one star is for the pretty views. We have stayed here many times there always seems to be some sort of small issue but this time was beyond belief. Upon our arrival we get to our site which when booking we were told was a back in waterfront on the sunrise side (we originally wanted sunset but they were sold out for the weekend so we settled). When we got to our site there were people in a tent next to us that took over the entire spot that was ours. At first we were a little confused as the people next to us didn't know what to do as well when they got there because picnic tables were missing etc. We were able to flag down security as this was right at closing who than told us these sites are to share! That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard in my life! Why would I pay to share my space with other people. No fire ring, no table no space to put our belongings. No one knows which sewer to hook up to. It's ridiculous. Security guy while pleasant was not able to help us so we told him to get the manager before they leave, as he was calling the manager on the walkie the manager was being so nasty saying to him "they have to deal with it or leave" finally he convinced him to come to the site. The manager in training comes over and says this is the way these spots are. We asked for him to move us to one of the many spots that were open and he says "I'll just refund you". ARE YOU KIDDING ME? We drove 5 hours, we have a child with us and it's 9pm at night and this is your solution? My husband tells him show me what spots you have available and we will move to one of those. Finally he decided to do that. After another hour of standing around waiting we finally had a spot to stay in for the night. Granted not one we paid for as we booked a water front but we had a spot. The next morning my husband went to the office to see if they did have any waterfront spots available for the following night so we can move to a spot we actually paid for (there were plenty open). We finally were able to move to a waterfront spot. He also wanted to rent out a golf cart and kayaks. They said that the golf carts were sold out but were getting some back in at noon and it was first come first serve basis but put our name on the list. Kayaks they would not rent due to safety however there was plenty of people kayaking on the campground. They also will sell inflatable rafts and pontoons and allow people to go out in the water but not kayaks. That makes sense. At this point we have a child who has basically nothing to do, had to deal with moving spots around and rude employees. I returned to the store to grab a few items and while there I checked on the status of the golf cart with the older lady who works at the front desk. She yelled out and reprimanded me for asking ... shouting "Your husband was here three times you're on the list" so I asked her will you call us and let us know if there is one available since you said they're first come first serve basis and of course she yelled out "Yes I will call you". The whole demeanor was horrible. As a paying customer I never want to feel like I am a pest, a bother or be reprimanded by anyone. All day we waited for this golf cart after being told that one would be available at noon. In the mean time Jeanne came over to bring us our new parking pass for the truck since we changed spots. We have had a pleasure dealing with her previously on our stays and thinking she was one of the managers we told her everything we have been dealing with. She was so apologetic and got to work right away to try and fix our stay! She promised us that she would bring us a golf cart herself once one was available! Which soon after leaving she came back with one and a clip board ready for us to fill out all the paperwork necessary at our site so we don't have to go into the office and endure the wrath of the nasty unfriendly employees in there. Later on to make us feel better she brought us down the drink covers "I survived the 1000 islands floods" since she knew we were there during the floods for a whole week. If it wasn't for her our stay would have been completely miserable I was glad she was able to fix our moods! Friendly, up beat, energetic and ready to solve issues and go above and beyond! This is someone who should be managing a customer service business not someone who is arrogant and rude. From a maintenance stand point they really need to put some better practices in place with maintaining the grass cut, geese droppings picked up and bathrooms maintained. Will never stay here again and probably not at any KOA locations. read more

What a mess. I will never go back there again. They charge an arm and a leg for every little thing but cannot provide water and electricity? And then they lie to the campers and tell them that they called the national grid, but little did we know they waited until the next day to call. Meanwhile, our food is thawing, there are no bathrooms to use and obviously no air conditioning. This is 4th of July weekend. A weekend that they knew was going to be busy but didnt bothet to plan ahead and fix the obvious electrical issues they had been having. The workers are rude, especially Angie in the office who would rather ignore the problem than address it. Roger who was EXTREMELY rude to a friend of ours who is a Vietnam vet and was treated like a common criminal just because he waved a canadian flag on his boat. And the rest of the staff who made it a point to tell us that none of this was their fault but couldn't provide us with any other information. I get it, stuff happens, but as a business it was handled in all the wrong ways. Their customer service sucks and so does their island. Before they come back with a snarky comment about finding a better site with a view and blah blah blah, I already have and will enjoy spending my money somewhere else. The view was great and the very cool breeze was refreshing. So let me get my only gripe out of the way. Our site appeared to be for a motor home that would pull into the site. The picnic table and fire pit were on the right side of the site. So we were in a coach that you pull and we had to back in. That put the picnic table on the opposite side of the coach from the doors. Also, the utilities and sewer were in front of the coach on the side of the doors.walking to our truck we had to step over the hoses, cables and sewer line. One other thing I'll mention...we realize things happen but we had no water the afternoon and first night we were there due to a water main break or something. No one had water. It was fixed the next mid morning and it was fine after that. Nice quiet site. All in all we enjoyed our stay but would have preferred a site where the patio and picnic table were on the side of the doors and the utilities near the rear. read more

Rarely do I ever care enough to express dissatisfaction in a company or experience. However, this is most definitely an exception. Let me start by saying that I was so excited to spend the weekend having my first KOA experience and was deeply disappointed at the end. I was told not all KOAs are as bad as this one which is good to know, but after this experience I'm reluctant to go to another. The site was beautiful and we enjoyed hanging out in the water. Other than that it was the company of my own family and friends that made it all better. Other reviewers before me have already hit the main points I wanted to make about what made this experience sad, but I'll reiterate a few. Of course at places like this there are rules and regulations. There has to be. You just don't need to be rude about it. The customer service was so incredibly poor from nearly everyone we encountered. You know the phrase, "the customer is always right" ? I don't think the management and current employees here have ever heard of that. The people I talked to were rude beyond belief and for paying as much as we did I think they can afford to take a little honest constructive criticism. However management seemed to back the cruddy attitude of the employees and put blame on the customer. Also we went what seemed like a whole day without electricity and running water which they may have had little control over but didn't seem to make strong efforts to apologize about the situation. The only nice people were Edison and his son. They were kind and very informative about the electricity and plumbing situation. In conclusion this KOA has rotten Customer service over all, (especially Glynda I think her name was) and I am never planning on coming back. read more

We have stayed here several times over the past 10 years and have had decent experiences for the most part. Since we travel by boat, this review focuses more so on the boater/cruiser experience rather than the camper's. Marina is clean, docks are fairly new. Power and water hook ups at only a few of the slips. There is no fuel and no pump out available. The marina is protected by natural barriers against Lake Ontario's winds and waves. Staff are accommodating and helpful. There is a general store on site but do not rely on it to provide ample groceries if you are a cruiser wishing to provision. There is no Uber service and no way possible to bike or walk the many miles it would take to get you to the nearest store to provision. They have washrooms/showers on site but they are outdated and we have found them to be unkept at times so we prefer to shower in the boat while staying here. They have laundry washers and dryers on site but they are outdated and often times some are out of service. They have a small indoor rec. room for the kids. Ping pong table, toy room, games, and even a video game but it is sometimes out of service or not working properly. In the past, the price to stay at the marina was extremely fair. Recently however, new management took over and now it will cost you a fee (depending on length of your boat) PLUS an additional $20 per head a night - (which I find ridiculous and unheard of when comparing to the cost of staying at all of the other marinas along the lake front - none of which charges per head. The most luxurious of marinas along the US/Canadian Lake front costs about $50 a night. This marina now wants from my family of four, $150 a night to stay in a boat slip. Ridiculous! Although the campgrounds and marina are decent, the price is now just too high. Nothing has changed much over the past several years, no added events, programs, entertainment etc and we have seen less and less campers and boaters - on our last visit (a 4 night stay) the place looked deserted. Probably will not return, mostly due to the inflated prices and lack of change/improvements. read more

This camp site is very strict we broke a rule with no fishing off the docks and we were in the wrong after that event they started to get aggressive with us telling us they were going to kick us out and always had someone watching our campsite. It got to the point where they shut off power to the campers which had children and people with sleep apnea machines very early in the morning at this point we police got involved and while talking with the state trooper who was very good mediator and let us know we weren't the first people to have this problem in the past and that they are always getting calls. Hope this helps save a trip up there we just drove 7 hours all for a very bad experience. read more

I wasn't going to write a review because we were so upset with this camp Ground that we all just wanted to forget about it. We had a family reunion planned for the July 4th holiday. We had a cabin reserved and 2 campsites. We traveled the 9 hours it took to get there (we had some truck issues). I had called and said we would be checking in late. They said that would not be a problem. When my family got there we were told by security that we have the wrong RV? We have camped for over 20 years. How do we have the wrong RV. The site was reserved for a motor home in which we had a travel trailer. The manager Jeff got on the phone (From Security) and proceeded to yell at my husband in front of my 6 and 12 year old boys that we were the "Idiots" that didn't know how to reserve a site. I asked what is the difference? We hook up just the same. We had a reservation for a week. At this point Mr. Jeff Clark appeared in person. We asked can't we stay one night on a different site and get this taken care of the next day as it was now 11:30 PM(they did have plenty of sites open at this time). He would not let us thru the security gate. He said they are all booked for the rest of the week and would not let us on. Jeff then proceed to tell my husband that he could not even turn around our 31' travel trailer and that we had to back our way thru the causeway and up to the main road. Your kidding me!! I don't know how long that road is, but its a hill, its dark and not to mention single lane with water on both sides. My kids are now are all upset. They did eventually let us turn around. We ended up spending that night at a Walmart parking lot. My family and I changed our whole week vacation the next morning. It ended up being one of the best vacations ever! My other family did end up staying in the cabin and we also had a great time. I do believe in karma though. Jeff Clark told us that we couldn't stay on the island, well they ended up losing power and water and when we visited our family in the cabin, more than half the island checked out on a holiday weekend. We have camped here before and had no issues. There was definitely no customer service especially from Jeff Clark the GM. The good news is that I just saw on their website that The GM Jeff Clark has moved on. I think this might be the best thing for this campground. To the new manager I wish you luck in repairing the damage Jeff Clark did. read more

I was displeased with the staff from the start. We were a late arrival so I went into the office the next morning as instructed and was told that I still owed the entire total due. Which I had 2 deductions from my bank account from the KOA already. The staff at that time said to come back on Monday when they would speak with the GM Jeff Clark. So I did just that and spoke with Mr. Clark myself. He told me there was a mistake with our reservations and we were entered twice and then accidentally already checked in by one of there new staff members. He was going to delete the pending reservation still and that we were all set with the other one on which we were already checked in on and had paid. On Wednesday, 5 days into our stay my husband had a voicemail from the KOA. The female stated that they had us slated to leave that morning. When in reality our reservation was for 2 more days. I called back at that time and advised the female that my email confirmation stated the 31st as did our tag on our truck. She again told me that's not what their computer said but she would have to have Mr. Clark take care of it. So we thought again things were fine bc I was told when they had a mishaps with our reservation initially that everything was good for our stay. Thursday afternoon Mr. Jeff Clark showed up at our camper and said to my husband 'we need to settle this money thing'. We were under the impression that we were all set bc the money was already deducted from our account and HE told me when he fixed the reservations that I was all set. My husband asked him how they didn't know what was going on when indeed they had already been into our account and reservation several times during our stay. At which point he said to 'pack it up and get out, you have 30 mins'. Honestly, what did we do wrong?! We were questioning what we thought was settled bc we paid ahead of time and he told me we were all set for our stay. When we were packing it up, he came back and again told us we needed to leave. At which point he told us he was calling the Troopers. And he made a false report stating that we were refusing to leave and refusing to pay. And my children were now a wreck as they thought we were getting arrested. My oldest son suffers from anxiety and also my youngest son is special needs and Mr. Clark was rude and disrespectful to them. He didn't care to talk or to listen, all he cared was to flex his muscles and feel good about telling us to leave and falsely reporting. I drove out of the gate with my husband and then advised him to move off the property and I would retrieve the rest of or belonging from another family members site. I walked back in with my sister whom just walked out of the store as I had her go in and pay the 'bill' we still owed for the last evening we stayed bc I didn't want anymore problems and couldn't stand to talk to him again bc he is so arrogant. As I was walking with my sister he rudely said to me ' do u have another vehicle here or something' . I advised him that the camper was removed from 'his' property and I was retrieving the remainder of my things. My family quickly helped me load the remainder of things in my sisters vehicle and we drove out. At which time the officers had arrived and were speaking with my husband. They went in and spoke with the GM Mr. Jeff Clark and then returned to us. He followed them back out to us in which the troopers advised him he needed to return back to the campgrounds. We were told we weren't allowed back , which is fine bc who wants to be treated like that. He told us it would be ok if our family left with us and also told us he doesn't care if we tell other people about their level of care and customer service. So you can take it for what it's worth. But we had been there for 6 days and not a problem one bit. We were camped directly across from him and he KNEW that ! But when questioned about our reservation and the status he the GM Jeff Clark blew his lid, told us to leave and then called 911 and accused us of refusing to leave or pay, ALL FALSE ACCUSATIONS. He wished not to talk or discuss anything. His way or the highway approach. And to act that way in front of my children, is highly unacceptable to me. We read MANY different reviews, many very negative but thought that can't be the case of a KOA. Well we were proven wrong. It is also unfortunate when you do read the reviews it appears that the problems people have are ignored by the responders and they continue to praise their staff. This is a case of repeated mistakes on THEIR behalf. THEY accidentally checked us in early, THEY charged my account a week early, THEY asked me to go back and get it straightened out on Monday and THEY had the dates wrong in their computer but right on our email confirmation and truck tag and THEY ( Mr. Clark) didn't like it when I questioned him what went wrong. Then THEY turned it around on us 110%. read more

For those that serve, have served in uniform, and for others seeking nothing more than an enjoyable time with family & friends at the KOA Association Island. You ought to reconsider your stay before reading site reviews and booking a future stay. As you scroll through countless site reviews. Your no doubt going to come across numerous negative reviews sighting the properties General Manager (Jeff Clark) as the source of confusion, trouble, heartbreak and distain. My wife and I, along with several other friends and non-affiliated campers experienced his utterly abusing attitude and sense of overbearing presence this past Labor Day weekend. The trouble began only 10 minutes upon our arrival into our site. As I was setting up our trailer, a person walks up to me from behind and say's "Sir, You Need to Follow Me to The Office to Settle Up with Your $100 Fine". Not comprehending what was being said, I ask who you are? and in a very stern voice said, "GM", "You're to pay the fine right now or leave the site at once". Being completely dumbfounded, I asked why. His response was "I broke park rules" by pulling my rig in forward, versus backwards. Without regard towards professionalism, our situational awareness he immediately made a point of putting me in my place with his combative attitude. Without delay, and in a measure to avoid a growing confrontation I said I would turn my rig around which after several minutes of convincing conversation, he agreed to wave my fine. So, with much relief I thought this issue was over - I was wrong! Before night fall, several other campers pulled in alongside me (site G05). Each being ushered by KOA staffer. For these campers, they too where met the verbal abuse generated by Mr. Clarks lack of compassion, care or understanding. For one of these campers, his family's stay was abruptly interrupted by a call to the Police by Mr. Clark. This call resulted in the sickening eviction of a family from the site, for nothing short of asking appropriate questions and trying to work through a rather simple issue. From this, many supportive cries from neighboring campers could be heard. Their cries fell on the deaf ears of Jeff Clark. It's extremely important for fellow campers to know that KOA Park Operations, under the oversight of Mr. Clark has sunk to an all-time "Low". This is not a place of relaxation, but a place a Law & Order. As a decorated combat veteran that's served our country with honor. I, along with so many other campers at this facility cannot comprehend how a guy like Mr. Clark could possibly be put in a position of authority and represent the badge of KOA. His demeanor, and jail like tactics towards park goers is shameful, unforgettable and comes at a time when the importance of Making America Great! and an enjoyable stay for campers even Greater. This was never felt. As a result, our group of fifteen long and faithful campers will never return to Association Island from which long-time memories of laughter, good times, and dearly missed loved ones will forever be carved into memories. This is our second year camping here with a total of over 25 nights of camping. We will be looking for another place on the lake to go from now on. Without the water, this is not a well kept full of activities KOA. Our camper is within 10 feet of the one next to us with our campfire in between. The Manager is not friendly as most of the staff aren't either. The water pressure is low, and sometimes they pick up the garbage. Just not well maintained for the prices they want. read more

Special thanks to Association Island employees ! We checked into Association Island and were greeted by a very friendly staff. My family and I rented 4 cottages along the Lake front for a surprise birthday celebration for my daughter. The cottages & grounds were very modern, neat & clean. Had everything we needed to be comfortable. Kudo's to Shannon the cottage caretaker ! The cottage area was so peaceful (until we showed up, lol !) and the view is spectacular ! We enjoyed walking the Island. The nature trails are very scenic. Great spot for family photos ! Walking along the boat dock area, the waters are so clear we enjoyed watching the fish and turtles. Boating, Fishing, Bike Carts, Trampoline, Kayaking, Paddle Boarding there was never a dull moment. I can't say enough about the staff. They were always around to answer questions. Didn't have too hunt around for someone. There was always someone in the KOA yellow shirt nearby ready too help. They were too funny assisting us in surprising my blind folded daughter for her birthday ! Such a great memorable weekend we had. We have been coming here for over 4 years with a group of friends and will not be back. The General Manager (Jeff Clark) was the rudest person I have met. Started with someone else from the KOA escorting us to our site as we pulled in. We got all settled and the GM pulls up to our site telling not telling us who he is and tells my husband that he needed to come with him as we had a $100 fine for not backing in (even though the site next to us had pulled in). We have never backed into this site before. Told us if we didn't we would be evicted. Then our other friends who had been there already for 24 hours were told that their camper was on the grass (only one jack) and was told to move or they would be evicted. The family next to them (from Pennsylvania) who was also there with a group of people pulled in also and because they didn't comply they were actually evicted and had to stay in a restaurant parking lot over night as no other campgrounds available. The GM would not even consider letting them stay even after the police were called. Then found out a family a few days before us were evicted over something the KOA made a mistake on. We have stayed at many KOAs and this is one place that we will not be returning to along with our group of friends. read more

Last year was an enjoyable visit, this year not so much. Although there are rules to follow the GM Jeff Clark escalates a small issue creating a confrontation that in which he becomes arrogant and belligerent. In 4 days I watched him take 3 small things and turn them into more which resulted into him throwing out 3 innocent familes with whom he called the police telling lies too to have them escorted out. GM Jeff does not like to be asked a question. If you question him he immediately intimidates you and throws you out. I agree there should be rules but nothing these families did was wrong. In many incidents it was the office staff that gave wrong misinformation but instead of GM Jeff owning up to that he blames the customer and attacks them. I do not recommend this camp as you never know who his next victim may be. Don't let the beauty of the campground fool you as their sly, lying fox of a GM will overshadow it. read more

Beautiful views across Lake Ontario from many RV sites make this a uniquely beautiful RV camping experience. This KOA Kampground provides a variety of site locations, clean restrooms / showers, full electric / water / sewer hookups, cable TV (albeit low quality analogue, with limited channel selection). Marina on-site. Due to the location of this campground on an island off the eastern shore of Lake Ontario, it is very breezy. Several area towns provide good restaurant choices (especially Sackets Harbor), and shopping is available in Watertown. Swimming beaches are available at nearby state parks. The only drawback of this facility was its WiFi service - connectivity was problematic during peak times, and only minimally functional at other times. read more

Family from Newburgh New York stayed here in June . I live in Vernon, N.Y and I was interested in visiting them with my two pug dogs. The park charges a $10 visitor fee in which I was willing to pay. I called the Office to make sure I could bring the dogs as I am over 2 hours from there and always travel with my pets. I explained this to the woman who answered the phone and she asks " Do you live local "? I said of course I don't live local or probably would leave my pets home. She says let me ask a manager. She came back to the phone and said due to the fact that that my family who is checked in has pets, that they don't want any more pets and for me not to come with my pets. Obviously I didn't go at all. COMON KOA, what would it hurt with a few extra small pets on a leash visiting your KOA ? I guess you don't need the few extra hundred dollars per day on visitor fees. I have been camping at KOAs since 1969 and will never camp at another KOA. You people are an example of the "Dumbing Down Of America". Use some common sense. When I get time I will call Corporate KOA and voice my opinion. You people ruined it for any more camping at any KOA for me. I ripped up my KOA 10% discount card . Good Riddens KOA ! If I had of they would not have camped there in the first place. They will not be back either. One day your bubble will burst and lose your franchise due to a loss of business. I know of six who have had this happen to from N.Y. to Canada. The Koa in Old Forge near enchanted Forest comes to mind and is no longer a Koa. Natural Bridge N.Y. fell short and lost there Franchise for ten years. read more

Great campground. We had site H22 on the sunrise side that was large and had a beautiful view. Had originally requested a sunset view but after arriving and walking around, we are really glad we got the sunrise. Sites were more quiet and the bad odor others have mentioned was not on the H site area at all. We only stayed 4 nights but plan to spend at least a week or two next summer. Close enough to Sackets Harbor to go for great meals especially Tin Pan Galley with their delicious, HUGE breakfasts. The stuffed French Toast is a must. Back to the campground --- this is a beautiful campground on an island all to itself surrounded by Lake Ontario. read more

The very best thing about this park is the scenery. No matter where you are, you're waterfront! Our spot was "Lake View" (as opposed to 2 grades of premium lake view) which means we had 2 rows of RVs between us and the lake. But that left PLENTY of lake view and at a much better price than the more expensive premium spots that would have come in at about twice the price. This was our first KOA and the fairly solid reputation of the chain was maintained here. Lots of activities for adults and kids including a huge inflatable bounce contraption that was actually kind of fun, even for this 48 year old body! The grounds are very well maintained and clean. They do morning trash pickup site-by-site which I thought was nice, but by design trash bins did not seem readily apparent for self-disposal. When we didn't want to wait for the morning pickup we walked over to the islands trash area. I'm sure there's a reason for this but I don't know what it is. This was actually the first time we never left the park during our entire stay. Watertown is about 15 miles away and there are a couple of tiny towns a little closer. There's a store on-site with basics as a convenience and there's a pretty good pizza place that regularly delivers to the island. I would rate it 10/10 if the value was a bit better. KOAs are known to be a little pricy and while there was decent value in our 3rd tier spot, we'd have preferred a premium spot but couldn't stomach the premium price. We will definitely stay here again though! read more

here is the perspective I review from. we will only come and stay on a non lakeside waterfront site. the non waterfront sites are barely substandard state park hate reserve America sites. we bath in our camper as facilities are just substandard for this location and price. we are a return visitor as we paddle, kayak, canoe, boat, fish, and swim from these spots..its an amazing campground for that. would never cone back unless had a waterfront non lakeside site..so that's where I come from I won't comment on the flooding, they cant fix nature.their waterfront sites will improve when the water recedes. although I doubt this owner's ability to fix them when it does. golf carts...ok I think this steps from the obscene amount of seasonal sights migrated from nearby hokey Brennans beach. it's not even a large campground yet the amount of kids bombing around make a nice leisurely walk unenjoyable around and after dinner /sunset time.. but one seasonal takes the cake with a polaris yzr 900 as their "cart" of choice.. seriously???? and early in the quiet time with kids bombing around ???. great vehicle, not a campground vehicle. Camp owner's allow this so that says a lot too. grounds.. yes lots of goose poop, but less than a previous stay. dont mind many uneven sites but it looks unkempt. poor mowing and tall weeds in numerous gullys. Are the sites gravel sites, or grassy? they seem to have abandoned the gravel and just let grass attempt to grow...again adding to the unkempt look. and areas around power boxes, septic holes, or other infrastructure in site areas are not maintained... no holes filled, repairs or construction goes unfinished as far as making area around neet and safe. no trees on majority of inland sites. only your waterfront sites have trees...just keep that in mind. if you get one of few waterfront sites avail due to a non seasonal rental that's the only way to stay.. the lakeside sites are more readily available, are nice , but you get the constant lake heavy breeze.. keep in mind, Its inherent to the location. not a detraction to this review, as thats nature. not sure if the owner wants to be a seasonal site or a KOA. I think if KOA people visited they would be disappointed in the lack of cleanliness and the lack of upgrading. Sure this year they added new 8x8 pads with some fire pit kits(non secured) on some waterfront sites near marina, but it's a pit on a pad, with limited space, it make no sense..i can see no other visible improvements. horrible disgusting "dog walk" area is still riddled with waste on the other side of the road.. it's an amazing eyesore and major breeding ground for disgust. the dog walk road leads to a maintenance building and garbage, again another disgusting area. they have a huge beautiful area they use as a dog walk because they can't figure out how to beautify it.. it's crazy infested with bugs and filth. here's a hint..clean up the wetland area you just toss all the island waste grass, logs, old picnic tables tires and other construction waste..it can be nice you know. plant some trees, they will grow, many camp sites in the area have huge shale beds below..narure will take a tree..trust me.. fill in some of the Inverness around the camp and ...wait for it... grow grass. I get the gullys are for drainage but you need to maintain them. the camp store/check-in is dated.. fine but supply beyond wilcors essentials is non existent. staff aren't unfriendly, but we have never had anone..especially the owner be more than cordial. in fact, he's kinda grumpy and seems overburdened with his campground... almost lost and doesn't know how to run a resort they want to be. yesterday went to get the $2.75 bag of ice and sat with 11 other people as a teen ran the shop... Friday afternoon high check in time, and one teen.. wow. finally fixed pool, had issues for years with cleaniness.. use the activity center for more than an hour a day.. it's camping, young kids like a central spot to do things. tell people trash is picked up at site, dont let em miss a day... as there is no visible cans to use anywhere. There are so many ateas with an odd building and such from previous island uses, but omg clean the areas, just because you didn't build the building dont just store crap around it, or let the area overgrow. we come back every year, as we get our non lakeside site.. stay in our little world and love it. but the seasonals detract from camping, and add no life to the campground. I hear person after person after person comment on the amazing potential, but won't come back as it's just a dirty non maintained campground. think I am making it up.. if it's not a holiday weekend you can have sites on a moment's notice.. this is an island in an amazingly beautiful area.. every other campground is packed. the seasonal take all the good sites, and with the rest a mesx.. I see why it's always empty.. even the week after the 4th of july... the 2 cabins.. the location..really? read more
