This is a very long overdue(nearly two years) review. My wife and I got married in October 2017 and we chose AST Travel's to book our honeymoon. Denise booked our flight and a ten day all inclusive stay at Sandals Resort in Whitehouse, Jamaica and made the process extremely smooth. Denise was wonderful. After a job change, I had a brief period of time that opened up all of a sudden - and my partner and I had never had a honeymoon. We decided to jump on it, but had no idea where to go. Denise spent hours with me on the phone figuring out what we liked, and helping us center a trip around snorkeling (a first for me - I came from New England before living in SF - that I've always wanted to do). She found us a super swanky all inclusive room and finagled us special decoration and welcome packages for honeymooners, all within our budget and on a tiny timeframe. Then a few days later right before I was going to pay, I called her up at 9pm on a Sunday (please don't be rude to her like me!) worried that the hotel wasn't quite right for us - we were going to Mexico and it felt a little too 'professional' for us, plus I was wondering if there was a way I could just walk right out and snorkel each day. Denise spent hours more with me that night helping me find the perfect spot and plans all over again, with no complaint whatsoever - she actually seemed excited! She really seems to love her job and genuinely enjoys learning about you as a person and matching you to the right trip. Then she even met me in the city where was convenient for me to take payment. We ended up at Club Med, which I had never thought of, which had snorkeling right off the resort - and walked out and snorkeled almost every day of our trip. We also went to Xel-Ha, for another day of fish-watching. There were other options and tours that we'd gone over, but the resort was so good that once we were there we just found ourselves having a wonderful relaxing time with little distraction. This is long overdue (month). I travel a lot, mostly for business, so most of the arrangements are handled for me. When I do travel for myself, I go back and forth with booking it myself or with a travel agent. For years, I have had my personal arrangements done with an agency in SoCal. I live in the northern part but have been dissatisfied with the agency, that I have worked with for years - lately. Without getting into my hectic life, I decided that I had to "hopefully" find a travel agent, that would work with me, knowledgeable and that was local (the latter not so much). I stumbled across AST from Yelp and various other sources. I called at an off-time, not thinking much of it. Denise followed up the next day with a phone call and was very attentive. She was extremely knowledgeable, yet listened and knew what my needs were. I have to say, that the months prior to my trip to Hawaii, she kept me abreast and put my mind at ease. Never once did I ever felt unsure of her capabilities, as we both were out of town quite a bit. AST/Denise kept in touch with me (pretty much on a weekly basis), prior to my trip. *never had that before!* Because AST and Denise booked my entire trip, I never had to contact or change "anything". My get-away was PERFECT! Had it not been for AST and Denise, I don't know if I would've pursued with the vacay. Note: I go annually but am in the midst of personal stuff. Australia, New Zealand and Fiji!!!! My wife and I just returned from an amazing 3 week get away that would not have been possible without the knowledge and personal attention from Denise. We had never been to Australia, New Zealand nor Fiji, so we wanted to work with someone that had knowledge of those locations so that we could put together a custom trip of a life time. Denise delivered on all accounts and went well above and beyond. She worked hard prior to us leaving to make sure that our trip was exactly what we wanted. While in each country, we were picked up on time for each and every one of our excursions and transfers. And there were a lot of transfers as we did not stay in one location more than 2-3 days. In fact the only snag we had was one airline (Virgin) misplacing some luggage. Time was ticking and I had other things I needed to concentrate on with my wedding. Without Denise, I swear I probably would have gone to Las Vegas for my honeymoon or stayed at home for a candle light TV dinner. 15 of my friends and I planned a trip to Cancun on May 5th and Denise made it happen. I don't think people know how hard it is to book 15 crazy guys an international trip with the same hotel and flight, all while paying individually at different times. Denise made sure we got the All inclusive resort we wanted, a direct flight, and a shuttle to pick us up and take us back to the airport. We were all able to put down-payments on our trip and we payed her monthly through PayPal and Venmo. Denise is patient and very understanding. She is very organized and you get great deals on packages. I definitely recommend using a travel agent when planning an international trip with a big group of people. But I have to make an exception this time for Denise at AST Travel in order to express my agreement with all the positive reviews. Being an educator working with young students daily, I should be a planner and organizer. But not when it came to travel. I'd rather leave this to someone who had the knowledge and experience in the field. I contacted Denise to help me book a family trip to Oahu for this summer. My husband and I have high expectation for this trip, as it'll be my kids' first trip to Hawaii and we needed it to be a memorable, fun experience for them. Denise was an amazing travel agent! My husband and I wanted to plan a Hawaii trip for our "baby moon" before our first child was born, and my mother-in-law suggested we go through her travel agent, which was Denise! Once we contacted her and got the ball rolling, she was very prompt and informative with information and details for planning our trip. She gave us different options that we could choose from to best fit our wants out of the trip. We ended up choosing a hotel right on Waikiki beach (Sheraton Waikiki) and Denise had a surprise waiting for us once we got to the hotel. She was able to upgrade our room to a partial ocean view! Looks like everyone either loves or hates this company. I'm not sure whether the service is inconsistent, or if people just expect very different things, but my experience was terrible. I went in not knowing anything about working with a travel agent. Denise did not help me understand that any better. Communication was unreliable between us, with frequent misunderstandings and delays. I was relieved when Denise handed me over to a partner agent in Italy, but things only got worse from there. This other agent knew Italy, but seemed to struggle with turning my preferences into a concrete plan. She was also badly distracted, more than once leaving me in the dark for a full week at a time. She tried to delegate my case to a colleague, but apparently the ball just got dropped? Not sure what happened. In any case, I had to call the whole thing off. I had no confidence that a trip made in these circumstances would meet our expectations and run smoothly. read more

Denise made planning my group trip to Maui and Oahu a breeze! We had 6 people originally going on the trip, and we had put in our deposit already when 2 other people decided to join in as well. If I were booking the trip on my own, I probably would've had to tell them that it was too late. Denise managed to get the 2 of them included in our bookings without incurring extra cost to the original 6. She managed to get our two-island trip under budget and in some great hotels. After attempting the coming of age trend of booking a trip through a travel website and never had gone to Mexico, my boyfriend and I couldn't seem to find a reasonable package with detailed information to go along with it, so I decided to go "old school" and search for a travel agent. Denise was the first to pop up in my area with a five star rating. All I have to say is that we are so glad that we went with her. I shot her a quick email of what we wanted, and she replied promptly with detailed answers. She saved us a good two hundred dollars on our all inclusive resort in Cabo, and arranged transportation to and from the airport.
