I'm honestly so disturbed by the experience I had here, especially after reading so many glowing reviews. I came in for a first time curly haircut with Michelle. I have very fine hair but it does have a curl to it. I was looking for a cut that would help bring that out but also help make my hair look more full. I understood that some of the length needed to go but I wanted to hold onto as much of would could be saved as possible, which I tried to explain but fell on deaf ears. I walked into the small salon and checked in with June. This place is dirty even for a hair salon, the corners of the floors and ceilings look like they haven't been cleaned since the day this place opened. I explained what I wanted to Michelle length wise, she showed me where she'd recommend cutting which was a little below shoulder length, which I was fine with. She asked me my hair care routine then walked away in the middle of me explaining it without a "one second" or anything. Then she came back and started cutting it dry which was shorter than what she had showed me but it was too late. She also gave me angles on just one side of my face without asking me if I wanted them or how short around my face to go. In the middle of this, she starts yelling at Jun about not properly checking people in, insulting her intelligence. This went on for a while and it was extremely unprofessional and so uncomfortable. She passed me off to Jun to have my hair washed telling me she would check the cut after. She scrunched my hair dry after this (again yelling at Jun asking her if it was her first day working for not having a microfiber towel ready). She never checked the hair cut again. When I told her the other side of my hair looked scraggly (the one that she cut no angles on) she said that was just my hair. My hair cut is uneven in the front and length wise which she never bothered to check and SO much shorter than what we agreed to - even shorter when it's curled with products, which she never bothered to bring up since I came in with clean, dry hair as directed on her site. I cannot believe she charges $150 for this level of service. I would either avoid this place or go with Jun if you come here because she must really need the money to put up with Michelle's abuse like this. What a mess. Regarding the owner's response: She knows she's in the wrong and rather than take accountability (at the very LEAST, for the way she treated Jun during the hour I was there), she's had friends write reviews to try and push mine down. Michelle, if your honest to god definition of mentorship is asking Jun if it's her first day for not immediately having your towel ready at a moment's notice and telling her "something must be wrong with you" for not checking people out properly, insulting her over and over in circles until she finally meekly tells you yes, she gets it, then I feel sorry for any future employees/victims you take under your wing. Treat your employee with human decency instead of embarrassing her. Jun, I hope you find a new job soon. read more

Jun gave me a fabulous curly haircut! She knew exactly what I was looking for in terms of blending the layers and adding volume to the top and back of my head. Highly recommend this place if you have curly hair! It's a small place which lends itself to a very non-chaotic atmosphere. Michelle is very knowledge about curly hair and will work with you to get your desired style. Went here for a much needed do over from my last balayage and let me tell you from beginning to the end the whole process was enjoyable. The fact that Michelle let's you know what treatment she is adding whilst doing it is so helpful and informative. She sells all the products in store so if there's something that you like or need she has it. I love that the salon space makes it feel homey and comfortable, it's like having a spa day in Astoria! Pro tip go for the steaming of your hair...yes you heard that right steam treatment!! It helps lock in missing moisture that your hair loses during these cold winter months. I had the best experience after two awful experiences with curly hair "professionals" one being in astoria. Michelle was amazing from start to finish. I was nervous so I did an initial consult with her. She set me at ease and even went out of her way to schedule me when she typically wouldn't be open because of my insane schedule. She gave me a dry curly cut, toner, steam treatment and curly set. This is the best hair cut I've had in a long time and she she totally blended out my grays. This was my first time getting a toner and she guided me through the process the whole time. Michelle is the real deal, and will 100% be returning in the future. read more

Love this place! Just had a very pleasant experience getting a cut here, I was nervous as I generally struggle with my hair and was about to get sort of a drastic style change, but Michelle made me feel at ease, welcome & comfortable; she gave me lots of helpful info about how to properly take care of my hair and walked me through what products she used as she was styling it, answering the questions I had. It's warm and inviting from the moment you walk in. It looks as clean as it smells. I spoke with Michelle addressing my long plight with growing my hair. She listened to my concerns and gave me a wonderful cut. She cut beautiful layers and an end trim to help my curls pop. She didn't want to shock me by going full chop, which I appreciate because I like to take the changes slow. Michelle is a master with curly hair -- not only does she cut it perfectly every time, she also styled a gorgeous curly updo for my wedding! We had a hair and makeup trial at her cozy salon which has the most relaxing vibes. She took her time with me and helped me figure out what look I wanted. I booked Michelle for a brow shaping and tint. She did such an excellent job that I got a haircut immediately after. Michelle gave me a great curly hair cut and is a sweetheart as well. It's clear that she takes care to make her clients comfortable in the space. She uses high end products that are good for sensitive skin and hair. I had gotten my hair cut elsewhere and I wasn't really happy with it, and I happened to see Michelle's Instagram in a post from one of the Astoria small business pages.
