Note that this review is in the context of just having had a new roof installed, and that we haven't been through a rainy season with said roof yet. We're presuming-slash-hoping, however, that the performance of the roof reflects our experience with Salomon. Salomon's bid wasn't the lowest that we received, but it was definitely competitive. Why we liked it was that it was both detailed (in terms of specifying exactly what they were going to do and how they were going to do it, without sounding like legalese) and straightforward--while other bids that we received specifically specified that the price quoted included removing one layer of shingles, Salomon's included removing the shingles down to the plywood. (There was only one layer of shingles to remove, as far as I'm aware, but having had to face add-ons for additional layers, as noted in other companies' bids, was a bit scary, as the add-on charges can add up.) We liked how straightforward Salomon was, and how responsive to questions. We also liked that, prior to submitting a bid, Salomon actually came to the house and got up on the roof. While most bids we received did this, there were definitely a couple that didn't, and we trusted those a little less (despite whatever Google/satellite view tools exist.) The actual roof installation went without a hitch. He and his crew left the job site spotless every day. After they left, we noticed that they'd left holes in the stucco where the old downspout attachment points were. I emailed Salomon about it and they fixed it the next day. If they hadn't responded, I'd be grumbly and this wouldn't be a five-star review. But because Salomon responded quickly and seems committed to customer service, we're very pleased. read more

Starting with last year's spectacular rains (and winds), I began getting a pretty significant amount of water coming into my kitchen from the roof. The problem seemed surely to come from a little chimney that had been constructed to hold the kitchen vents. I called some roofers and general contractors, who tramped around in the attic and told me that they could easily fix the problem, with a week or so of a 5-man crew re-doing the attic. Two promised to fix the problem for "only $25,000 or so"! Finally I found an honest-seeming man who re-caulked around the little chimney. But the leak continued whenever there were strong winds (crucial hint) along with the rain. Finally Salomon, at Astro, suggested what he called "capping" the chimney. I didn't go with that at first, figuring the vents needed to keep on venting. Only when I called Salomon again did I learn that he meant simply sealing the brickwork on the chimney. Doubtful but desperate, I agreed. Two young men came out and from the street I watched them cover the brickwork with pieces of something asphalt-like they sealed in place with heat. It was serious work - and - it is effective! We've had a number of windy-rainy days now, and my kitchen is dry. What a relief! Salomon was the only one who used his brain - and, I assume, his experience - to think the problem through. Definitely five stars! read more

Salomon and his team did a full roof replacement on my very old roof. They had to install attic vents, remove two layers of shingles, lay down plywood, etc. From the time they gave the quote until the job was complete, they were super responsive and very helpful. They were not the lowest bidder, but their price was competitive, and they were the most thorough in inspecting the roof when giving the estimate, so I felt confident that they knew what the job would entail and that they would not cut any corners. They cleaned up every day and made sure that at the end of the job, they painted the wood where they had to move a gutter, and in general, took pains to ensure that things looked great. They finished the day before the atmospheric river hit the Bay Area, and their work has so far stood up to the elements. Roofers are really busy right now because of the rains. Some of the other companies I contacted were not even available to give quotes until months out. I have been pleased by how quickly Salomon has responded throughout the process. read more

During the Covid-19 pandemic we had our roof replaced by Astro Roofing. They were perfect. Other roofing companies who provided bids did not respect social distancing and lingered in our home to give us a sales pitch. My wife is immunocompromised and I found this disrespect of social distancing offensive. On the other hand Salomon inspected the roof, left immediately, and provided a bid via email. We were very impressed by this courtesy. Also, his bid was the lowest and the work was excellent. The price was also less than previous quotes I obtained before the pandemic. They installed new plywood, shingles, and gutters for the entire roof. I would be surprised if prices remain this low. read more

I called these guys three or four times to request an inspection for a quote. When I called to confirm that they were coming on the day before their appointment they said they needed to reschedule. On the day of the rescheduled visit, no-show. I called to get an update and was told they were on their way. As I was out of town I asked my husband to keep an eye out. He phoned and was told that they had stopped by and would provide a quote via email -- that they had software that helped them do estimates without having to go onto the roof. The experience I had with Salomon and team in July 2020 was fantastic, and it is very consistent with the other 5 and 6 star reviews below. My project is also a full roof replacement, found them through yelp, got a response and a quote quickly by Salomon himself. His quote was not the lowest, and required 4 days to finish vs 2/3 from other quotes. I chose them because Salomon respectfully and patiently answered all my questions, and he himself is part of the 5-man working crew onsite for the entire job (no subcontractors). Main communication method: Text, call, email - in that order. Throughout the project, they started promptly at 8 and ended around 4-5pm, leaving no trash behind each day. I honestly don't see how anyone can finish my project in 2 days without cutting some corners. Salomon is a rare, old-school (but responds quickly), honest man who was very excited to show me the work he had done during the final walk through. His team proactively repaired a few small things that wasn't included in the contract because he thinks it's what he would do to his own roof, and did not nickel and dime me for it. Dario (his brother) spoke perfect english, and is just as respectful and always smiling. My final total was the exact amount on the quote. The downside with these guys is that I won't need to see them again for 25-30 years. If I was ever to buy a house again, I would definitely call them for a quote again. read more

I cannot recommend this company enough. I have a large building, approx 4000-5000 sq. ft. and not a flat roof either. I got three estimates, all three were recommendations. The first company, recommended by my insurance company, did not even want to deal with it. Too complicated, will need scaffolding, etc. I got two more estimates, and after looking up the businesses on Yelp, I went with Astro, who gave me such a competitive bid that I couldn't refuse. From the beginning it was so easy. Salomon came over for me to sign the contract and give a deposit. What a lovely guy!! So calm and pleasant. He said he would start on 10/5. No more communication and on 10/5 he and his crew of 4 arrived at 9 a.m., worked solidly for 8 hours with a short lunch. They did this every day for 7 days, working quietly and cleaning up after themselves every day. We were so impressed with their work and their work ethic. After it was all finished there were just a couple of small details that needed to be fixed and one thing that was nothing to do with roofing that I asked them to do. Salomon remembered and took care of those extras as he promised. All communication was straightforward, prompt, and responsive. I couldn't be more pleased. Saloman was available to put in a bid for our project the day after we called, unlike another company we called which couldn't come out to asses/bid for 2 months. He prepped the bid the next day, and it was very competitively priced. He had availability to do the work, and his crew finished the job on time. They were very accommodating in our roof, gutter, and downspout color choices. They put in two skylight tubes without additional charge, and even sent a handyman to fix up some cracks that appeared in our living room ceiling after they straightened out our support beams. I wanted to wait until the super storm this week to write a review for Astro. We searched for many roofers and got a lot of quotes. In the end Astro was one of the least expensive so we decided to go with them. I thought the long lag of 5 weeks would put us in the middle of the rainy season but it turned out to work perfectly. The rains came 5 days after Astro completed our roof. I would highly recommend them to do your roof as it was just as discribed in their bid. I feel like a lot of other companies charge you for replacing a few pieces of wood in your sub roof. Astro just said "your roof looks great" and replaced a half dozen pieces anyways and didn't charge extra parts or labor. They are honest hard working guys who care about what they do. Astro Roofing did a beautiful job on my roof, and they were a pleasure to work with. The estimate was clear and detailed. Salamon was shockingly quick to reply any time I contacted him. He wore a mask and maintained social distancing. Not only did Salamon and his crew do all of the agreed upon work, which included stripping the old shingles, placing the new shingles, adding eyebrow vents, a ridge vent, and adding new gutters around the sloped roof, they did extra work. They painted the flat bitumen roof which did not need replacing, with a white paint to extend its life. They replaced the gutter on the flat roof as well, although, again, it was not part of the estimate. They painted a metal topper on the chimney to match the shingles and trim. This was just a terrific all around experience! Salomon was quick about returning my request for a quote on a repair and, despite the crummy weather, he managed to fit me in really quickly. He was efficient and cleaned up everything beautifully and charged me a totally reasonable amount for the repair. I especially appreciated his calm and professional demeanor.
