Update review on Astutia Salon! I love it here still and all the hairstylists are so talented. I've been seeing Danelle to do my hair now and she does a phenomenal job at color, cut, and style. When she washes your hair too it's like a nice message and you melt away in the bowl. If you're wanting fun red colors I'd recommend Jen and Danelle! You need to make sure to book ahead though because they are always booked for at least a month out. read more

It's been YEARS since I've had a haircut. That being the case, I've been reluctant to venture out and discover a hair dresser who would be able to achieve the look that I've been dreaming of. My Pinterest board is filled with Joan Jett, shag, and 80's rocker looks. I've been holding out because I didn't think anyone could pull it off for me (especially knowing my hair was uneven, as well as extremely dead from bleaching it.) I really believe this was a "wild card" experience. My favorite coffee shop is directly next door to The ASTUTIA SALON. After enjoying my delicious dirty chai latte with a double shot of espresso, I reluctantly wandered into the salon nervously asking if they were able achieve the perfect look. Janice was extremely confident as she explained that she could do exactly what I was dreaming of! My desire was to walk out looking like a rock star... and Janice made that happen! She proved that there are still expert stylists who know how to make their client feel and look funky and beautiful at the same time! My kids, friends, and husband all love my new look! I relocated from San Diego a couple years ago and decided I really needed to find a stable salon in the Murrieta area I can go to. I'm so glad I finally found a great salon that I can trust! I've always been pretty adventurous with my hair so it takes a lot for me to trust someone with my locks. So glad Jennifer (the owner), recommended me to Danelle. Danelle does a great job with my hair and is so good at blending all the right colors. She's also so pleasant to talk to and makes the whole experience so great. Yup, my first time here!.... And last Yes, we also read the reviews, we didn't even know this place existed if it wasn't for Yelp, and all these great reviews. I'm sure what happened next was an isolated thing. Nine months prior to going there I suffered a brain aneurysm, therefore I was very self conscious of my hair and whoever worked on it, this is the very reason why I decided to go to this place, the reviews were awesome and this particular hair-dresser(Janice) seemed to have experience with my situation(according to comments). Unfortunately that was not the case; I went there around mother's day, I had an appointment for a weave and a haircut, everyone was very courteous, Janice worked on my hair and for the most part the whole experience was pleasant. When I got home I started noticing a lot of red in my hair, everyone also started pointing out that there was a lot red and very little blonde, which is what I had asked for, I even brought pictures of the style and color I normally get, my husband even pointed out that my haircut looked very much like Janice's haircut and color, anyway, we called back the place and spoke to Jennifer, the owner, she was very nice and sweet and said, "no problem, simply comeback and we'll make it better for you", she was super nice, so I figured, "ok I'll just go back to Janice and she'll make it better for me". That was not the case at all. As soon as I walked in I noticed Janice was not in a good mood at all, she had this look like she was not happy at all I was there, I smiled at her and said "hi Janice" to brake the ice but she didn't even answer back, I believe she was annoyed with the fact that I had not liked my new haircut or maybe she thought I had complained about her to the owner. She orders me to sit down and starts working on my hair or better said pulling my hair, at first I wasn't sure but she continued yanking, pulling, and not a word out of her, simply making it very obvious she was not happy with me. Two months later my kids tried to give me a gift card to this place, but I had to stop them, I'm sorry but never again. I have never been treated this way by anybody let alone a hairdresser, I am sure everyone here is super nice(it's obvious by the reviews) but then so was Janice at first 'til she found out I was not happy with my haircut, like Jekyll and Mr. Hyde read more

I love this hair salon because it's smaller, more intimate and nicely decorated. A relaxing atmosphere and has a great location at the end of Old Town Murrieta. Janice has been lightening and styling my hair for almost a year now and am so happy with her. She understands what I want and her experience is obvious. My hair used to get so dry, but not anymore. She lightens it properly and now I know how to take care of it.
