I got fiber optic internet over a year ago. Since DAY ONE I have experienced widely varying speeds and dropped service. I have replaced the router and had techs come to the house. The company admits that there are issues but the techs can't fix it. I lose internet over both wifi and ethernet over multiple devices. The techs show up, don't know what to do and leave. THE LAST ONE SHOWED UP CHEWING TOBACCO AND SPITTING INTO A DIP CUP IN MY HOME!!!!!!!!! Even he admitted there were problems but didn't know how to fix them. For this I am paying for fiber optic. Wow. And I thought Comcast was bad. I tried setting up internet service for my place. Here are some lowlights of what happened. * $300 just to get setup. * we got disconnected three times. That happens. If I had a company that didn't call potential customers back though, well, I wouldn't have a business long. Ah, the phone company. Good Ol' Ma Bell. She put you through locally. She put you through long distance. She may have given your grandmother or great aunt a good job back in the day. Good times with Good Ol' Ma Bell. She got the job done. Well, those Good times with Good Ol' Ma Bell are good and gone. You see, Good Ol' Ma Bell, in her old age, suddenly got fertile in the 90s thanks to the Good Ol' Feds and had a bunch of Baby Bells, who started taking over Good Ol' Ma Bell's business. After some time, those cute little Baby Bells grew up and then started eating up their little siblings. After some more time, with nothing but the fatter Baby Bells and frail Good Ol' Ma Bell herself left, one of the fattest Baby Bells, SBC, decided to go and eat up Good Ol' Ma Bell herself. Only in telecom land could the young eat their own mothers. So how do you think they're going to treat you - the lowly customer? To add insult to injury, SBC not only ate up Good Ol' Ma Bell herself, but then SBC, being the treacherous bastards they are, went and morphed themselves into Good Ol' Ma Bell by changing their name to AT&T. That's one twisted full circle. _______________ I'd have to say that I've been relatively satisfied with my service from AT&T's cellular service and, for purposes of this review, DSL service. But this all changed this week when AT&T, without any notice whatsoever, interrupted DSL service for anywhere from 60-75 hours. That's three full days. In addition, AT&T kept me on hold when I called customer service for about 45 minutes altogether. Meanwhile, they're counting the minutes in those calls on my AT&T Wireless account. I swear, the entire telecom industry is lorded over by Uncle Joe Stalin himself, and I'll get into an even more egregious example in my next review. When I got through to an AT&T customer service rep, likely in another country, I was put through the same troubleshooting flow chart each time to attempt to rectify the problem. Finally, I was informed of a general outage in the Chicago area and that it was unknown as to when service would be restored. To my knowledge, it was a full 75 hours after service was interrupted when service was finally restored. I'll have to keep a keen eye on my bill to see how this is addressed. I suspect a guy in a tunic with slicked back hair and a mustache will ask, "Problem, comrade?" if I ever inquire about it. Overall, I'd say my service prior to this incident was pretty good, with only a few outages over the years that only lasted two or three hours at the most. But since we live in a "What have you done for me lately?" world and this outage caused me countless headaches, I can't rate AT&T any more than two stars. P.S. So what is the result of the aforementioned twisted full circle? Stockholders have made out like bandits. Telecom execs have made out like bandits. Hundreds and probably thousands have lost jobs. Your great aunt no longer has a job and doesn't connect you long distance downstate. Customer service has been farmed out to various Asian countries. And you, the paying customer, are forced to talk to someone at Ma-san Bell-san who speaks in broken English, reads from a flow chart and ultimately doesn't help you 90% of the time. **PLEASE READ BELOW: in the process of pulling out of AT&T U-Verse after almost 3 years. OUR BILL JUMPED $21 THIS PAST MONTH! - Customer service has been dis-honest with us several times, and the company basically toys with you and the billing/prices. In short.. prices CONTINUOUSLY RISE month to month - often times for no apparent reason - happening AFTER our premiums/incentives already having expired. I have kept every monthly bill since August 2010 and it is laughable to compare each new one to the previous month - even the taxes fluctuate (sometimes the taxes go lower while other items go up???!)!. Here's a detailed break-down: ** After about a year or more (please note - again this has nothing to do with premiums or incentives "expiring") of our bill consistently being 203.50 a month, we spoke to customer service in late January/early February 2013 about doing something to lower our bill. - Long story short, customer service got our bill down to @185.00 a month and TOLD US that 1. This monthly price would stay this way for 6 MONTHS, and 2. After 6 months, we could call back and then "get this same price again" for the next 6 months because we had been long-time customers. We have this person's name who made us this guarantee, but will not release it here. - February 2013 - our bill was as promised - @185.00. It would turn out to be this being the only month they lived up to their 'promise.' - March 2013 - April 2013 - both of our bills magically went from our promised @185.00 a month to now @ $199.00 a month. While comparing our bills, we noticed certain fees for internet and/phone voicemail service (which we do not even use the 'voicemail option') went up. How convenient, but based on what we were promised, this should be a moot point for between 6 months to a year, right? (also note: There is no way to "remove" the voice mail option from the phone package cost, even though most people don't use the At&T voicemail simply because most answering machines have voicemail. So, they get you on that..) - Like idiots, we paid the bill twice despite what we were promised two months earlier. We called again to contest this, and we were given a completely different set of information than what the previous person guaranteed us. We got this person's name as well. This person basically rambled and spun information for 35 minutes to the point of us having no clue what they were talking about, and no clue why our bill jumped $14 even though we were promised otherwise. - May 2013 (one month later!). Now our bill magically went up from the $199.00 a month to over $206.00. Please note this $206 is HIGHER than the $203.50 we had been paying consistently when we first complained! - When we call customer service for a 3rd time - even though we have names of the previous representatives who told us or promised us one thing, the next representative simply negates the promises or information given to us by the previous representatives and gives us an entirely new 25-minute story. Again - no answers about the previous promises in February 2013. Every representative said something completely different, and for the uninformed out there - each month the bill will just go up and up because they know they can basically get away with it, and that most people don't scrutinize their bills month to month. We are pulling out by start of summer. We have had it with AT&T and the constant billing changes and dishonesty by customer service. Also note - internet service is not entirely fast, and the remote controls all don't seem to work correctly. You have to press and hold VERY HARD to get the volume to go up and down (or press and hold SEVERAL TIMES), or for certain channels to change. When we have complained about the bad remotes, we were told "we have to buy new ones from them." You would think the company would say they would replace them for free. The remotes cost about $35.00 a piece, but they can be found on eBay for $10.00 or under. Also, this is not happening because of "old batteries", either. All of our remotes have been replaced with fresh batteries multiple times, and it is still the same. Lastly, even though AT&T advertises that you can record up to 4 separate programs at ONCE, this has glitches like you would not believe. ALL THE TIME we may have 2 TVs going, and perhaps one show is 'recording' - and on one of the TVs, it won't let you change channels because a message pops up that says "all systems are busy, please stop a recording, or, switch off another television in the house, or stay on this channel".). Trust me, never have any of us been recording 2 programs let alone 4 programs at one time - and yet we always see this glitch. RIDICULOUS. Over $206 a month for basic U200, broken/cheap remotes, average internet speed, no premium channels, dishonest and in-ept customer service, bait-and switch promises, and A BILL THAT CONTINUOUSLY GOES UP. Well, I didn't think it was possible to lower the bar from my earlier experience. I should have known if anyone could do it, it's AT&T. The internet service itself is mediocre- intermittent outages requiring restarts of the router, reconnecting and reentering passwords - several times, every single day. But you're better off just suffering than actually trying to resolve it. Today I called, and explained the issue, requesting that a technician come out to assist. I am told that I must call a different number (here we go) but that someone could come out at no cost to me. So I call. The person is clearly an offshore representative ("Vince"), and it takes 4 attempts for him to get my account # correct, another 3 for my phone number - ya know, in case we're disconnected. He also asked for my email... yeah, no. Let's talk about the issue. He tells me there will be a cost for a technician needs to come out. Wait, the last person I talked to indicated that wasn't the case.... He tries to trouble shoot the issue. I explain that I've been down this road with them before. How do you plan to fix an intermittent issue? Right this minute the internet is working fine, but it'll be down again shortly! This person effectively turned an intermittent problem into an ongoing one. Then, predictably, we're disconnected - and though we went through great lengths to ensure he had my # in case this exact thing happened - I did not hear back from Vince, nor was anyone able to actually identify this person. Accountability = zero. I wound up spending over 2 hours on the phone over the course of NINE phone calls in order to get my service restored. Since that was way more than this outfit was cabable of, I joyously cancelled this service. I'd pay double elsewhere just to avoid having to deal with a company with this epic level of incompetence. read more

AT and T How I hate thee! Let me list the ways You lie to me- you have now (and yes, I am keeping track) given me 3 different reasons for why my phones and internets went out for over 2 weeks. Each time you are called on your story changing, you act surprised. You have FAILED to provide service for close to 1 MONTH so far this year. CRAPTASTIC JOB! You mischarge me, rack up late charges on your inaccurate billing- and then REFUSE to admit it. Yes- I battled you on this one. After 2 hours on the phone, and 3 people later- we did get it figured out. GUESS WHAT? I WAS RIGHT! While you claim it was an ANOMOLY in your system, and no one had ever seen that happen before, somehow I highly doubt it. I think no one ever had the perseverance to fight it out. FINALLY, you did admit it and change it in the end. WOW- thanks for not making me pay money I NEVER OWED!... BY the way.. guess what my hourly billing rate is? I think you should have to credit me that amount. FREE INTERNET, CELL, and HOME phone for over a year! Yahoo- pay up asswipes! Anyone you talk with- be it the repair department, the business office, etc has no access to a manager. Yup. Call back- you can spend your life on the line waiting- 'cause AT&T is not going to help you out. Your excuse that the repair department is not connected to the business services department- guess what? I DO NOT CARE! I send in one check. You should be able to coordinate my call- at ANY POINT in time to the proper person. Here is a hint... I now just request a manager- non stop. Then when one is not available, I DEMAND that they call me back. I refuse to wait on hold. It drives them nuts- and really- that is now my point. Horrible! I've had internet w/AT&T for the past 4 years. My service went out 2 weeks ago. Repairman #1 came out. Discovered it was a problem with the line & someone would have to go on the pole. Pole guy #1 came out the next day.....received a text that everything was okay. Lie #1 Called back in & a supervisor told me another tech has to come out & link my inside service to the work they did outside......and so he came. Service was only restored for 24 hours. Called again, guy came out & said it was a line issue & so came pole guy #2. Needless to say, I still don't have service & they're trying to send out another tech.....#6!!! I moved from Comcast to AT&T U-verse several years ago. It was a delight to be rid of Comcast's disdain for its customers. At first U-verse TV and internet were okay. But for the past several months or more, the quality of the internet service has markedly deteriorated. Speeds are often barely above 1 Mbps. Internet radio services such as iHeart, TuneIn, Stitcher and others don't play for more than a minute before dropping out for seconds, minutes or forever. Attempting to watch videos on YouTube, Netflix and other services is agonizing. Stops, starts, endless buffering. It can take 10 - 15 minutes to load a 2 minute video so it plays smoothly. AT&T Customer Service pretends to care. Their remote diagnostics almost never find network problems. Their field service reps assure me everything is fine. Except things aren't fine. I can't listen to internet radio streams without constant repeated interruptions. I can't watch a short YouTube video without repeats stops to buffer more input. Today I needed to transfer an important, time-critical file to a client. U-verse choked on attempting to send it to Dropbox, Google drive, Microsoft MyDrive and Mega. It wasn't always like this. In the early days several years back, U-verse was okay. But now they are awful and a waste of money.U-verse simply doesn't have what it takes for internet connectivity. As much as I hate Comcast, I'm calling them on Monday. read more

AT&T provides the slowest, most unreliable internet in Chicago. The speeds run at roughly 5% of what is advertised. Customer service is horrible, from long wait times to inept agents. Oh, AT&T. You have tried my patience this week. 5+ years and I have had no issues with you. It's the best long term relationship I've ever had. But then.... oh, then. Last Sunday you slowed to a crawl. Then while I was on the phone with tech support you just decided to kick back and give me the finger. Like a good hooker, you went down and weren't coming back up no matter how many sweet nothings I whispered to you. Your tech support people deserve gold stars and more vacation days. I might have freaked out on one of your people, but hey - at least I apologized and warned her before I did it. I was in a panic because I had homework to do, it wasn't her fault... I was just stressed and the whole internet crashing thing wasn't helping. A super amazing "level two" tech guy got you working again. I wanted to propose marriage to him and have his little DSL babies, and as we hung up I was dreaming of a wedding dress made of ethernet cables when you crushed my fantasies of a modem-shaped wedding cake and went down again, not 10 seconds after I hung up with my future husband. Bastard! I called back. Another tech got you working again, but barely. All week you toyed with my emotions. Each day I never knew if you were going to be there for me or not. I was not loving your fear of commitment, and sure enough - Saturday morning when a tech arrived at my apartment you were working perfectly fine. I could almost picture you sitting back, sipping on your whiskey, laughing manically at your genius plan to make me look like an idiot. The tech guy left (but not before he told me some cool mobster history on my apartment building), and even gave me his cell phone number in case you decided to go down again. I think he was on to your trickery. And of COURSE you waited until this fine Sunday evening to start playing games again. The minute I sit down to do homework you crash. Are you trying to teach me a lesson on how not to procrastinate? Ok, it's working, I get it. School is cool. Whatever. But this time I wasn't going to let you win. I am 11 g-damn weeks away from graduating, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let you ruin that for me. I called your tech support people again. We discussed options (somehow drop kicking you off my roof wasn't a popular choice), and the phone call ended with me sprinting down the street to Best Buy before they closed. Your modem? It's been replaced. And now? YOU are MY bitch, because you are working just fine and if you know what is good for you, you will stay that way. AT&T, I'm willing to overlook bumps in the road. I just spent 37 minutes on the phone to put my internet service on Vacation Hold. I tried to do this at their website but I had to call their 800 number. I waited 23 minutes to talk to someone and that person took 14 minutes to process my request! In my opinion, AT&T has the worst customer service in the World!!! read more

1. CALL CENTER- The answering system is programed with a maze so it makes it virtually impossible to reach a human being. If you don't say exactly a certain word you are blocked from any further movement. I said "Agent" and the voice said, "I didn't understand you." 2. E-mail password issues prevail on my Apple MacBookPro; iPad and iPhone. I have stopped putting AT&T on my iPhone/iPad because prompts tell me "your AT&T password is incorrect" which is false. The same thing happens on my McBook Pro. How come I never have the problem with G-mail and iCloud mail. 3. Internet speed is at best inconsistent. I pay for 18.00 mbps/ Speed varies from .05 mbps to 3 to 5 and to 15 -- all in the same day. (Source: OOKLA Speedtest App) 4. Advertising- the TV stations carry an abundance of U--Verse ads about how great their service is. I wish they would move half of their ad budget to improving their service and become "consumer friendly." 5. Online Chat - I was starting a good chat online with Stuart....all of a sudden the screen went to a solid blue and then changed to say Chat button wasn't comparable with my Apple Keyboard. "Chat Cookie doen't recognize your enter key." or something like that. AT&T is not a "user friendly company. They have no respect or appreciation for the views of their customers. I am not sure what my choices are. Comcast web site said it would be $50 a month for twice the speed I now get on AT&T. After talking with a Comcast agent, the cost would be $85.00 to get that service. Both talk out of both sides of their months. read more

I am normally impressed with companies that are willing to hire the mentally handicapped. Unfortunately, I cannot agree with AT&T's approach, which is to place their mentally deficient into senior management positions. With AT&T I get the chance to relive my Third World adventures without having to leave my apartment. For example, buying a train ticket in India can require standing in 5 lines before the process is complete. With AT&T, it can easily take being bounced around to 5 or more customer service reps around the country to resolve an issue. But wait, there's more! AT&T employs technology to ensure that it wastes even more of your time than dealing with the bureaucrats in India. The automated phone system -- once you finally convince it to connect you with a live human -- is apparently designed to send you to the wrong person or place; this gives you the opportunity to chat with a large portion of AT&T's workforce over the course of an afternoon. Each of them, of course, ask you again for the phone number you were required to input to reach them in the first place and for your "security code," which can't be all that secure if you have to share it with the bulk of AT&T's staff every time you call. To make things fun, about one time in 3, you'll get disconnected during a transfer and need to start from scratch. Best of all is when you actually find the right person to solve a problem and are ALMOST finished when AT&T Uverse drops out temporarily, thus ending your call in mid-sentence. The excitement never ends! Once you get your phone bill back to being close to the expected price, you can rest assured that the bill will go up a couple of dollars every month or two and then jump by as much as 50% if you neglect to get in touch with them for more than 6 months. Apparently, AT&T just LOVES to hear from you in person regularly, a half day at a time, so they can follow up your call with their customer satisfaction emails. Sure would be something if they actually read those responses! read more

If there was something lower than a 1 star rating I would have chosen it. AT&T is the worst company I have had to deal with in nearly 10 years. So horrible this will be my first bad review I've ever written. Signed up for AT&T UVerse Internet and Cable Services at the beginning of June. When they came to install it they found a problem in an outside line and said they would need to open a ticket and come back. So they come back and everything seems to be working fine. Then about an hour after he left....its not fine. Long story short 2 months and 9 technician visits later they still have not fixed the problem. They have inside techs saying its an outside problem and outside techs saying its an inside problem. When I called and asked them to have both an outside and inside technician come at the same time....they tell me to try and ask the technician myself. Ummmm isn't that your job AT&T to talk to YOUR technicians.... After the last technician came I called in...AGAIN very frustrated with everything. The Technical Support Supervisor had the nerve to tell me I need to be patient. AFTER 2 MONTHS OF NO SERVICE. Mind you...they still have been trying to charge me $135 a month to have no cable or internet service. Yeah folks....the one things AT&T is very good at is giving you your bill. So I canceled and got DIRECTV. I have not had a problem with them once since the setup. They are amazing. I seriously cannot believe how poor AT&T was. Horrible customer service....and just give you the run around. I had to come home and meet technicians 9 different times with them. HORRIBLE. There is no excuse for that. Anyway if you want to retain your sanity I would not choose this company. read more

I feel as if ATT Uverse is a gauger when it comes to pricing, I have been with the company for a long time, however they of course give you a great price for the first year and I am one person now paying $254 for TV & internet, That is higher than my car payment. It is sad that you have to result to going to Yelp, as they could have cared less on the phone. It's clear that AT&T is more interested in taking all my money than providing basic internet & TV at a reasonable cost and keeping its customers. I just wasted five hours of my Saturday thanks to AT&T Uverse. We have been Uverse subscribers for just over three years now. Yesterday, my internet connection slowed to a crawl. When I called AT&T, they set up a service call for the window of 4-8 PM today (Saturday). After sitting for 3 1/2 hours, I got a call from their dispatcher that the technician was still coming, but was running late. They asked if I could wait or wanted to reschedule. I waited another hour and 40 min before losing patience and calling AT&T back. After making me wait on hold for ten minutes, I was told the AT&T "had missed the appointment" because "it got too late for the technician to come out". Nobody called, apparently AT&T doesn't believe that my time is valuable. There are five hours of my life I'll never get back, and this disrupted my family's evening as well. Now I have ANOTHER "appointment" for tomorrow morning. If these morons don't show up early in the four-hour window, my next call wil be to Time Warner, Dish Network, Direct TV, or any of the other many competitors I can switch to. AT&T has a great product in Uverse, yet they're still pulling the same B.S. customer service bad-behaviors they had back when "Ma Bell" was a monopoly. In the mean time, it took my browser several minutes to open the Yelp website so I could post this, as my "broadband" internet connection slowly pulled the website up. To the AT&T employees who may read this - in a year or so, when AT&T does their next major layoff in the Uverse space, don't whine to Washington for unemployment help, don't blame the economy or foreign competition from India or China, and certainly don't expect people to have much sympathy for your situation. When your business starts drying up, Just look in the mirror to see the reason - it will be all of you, delivering lousy service to consumers like me who shell out hundreds of dollars per month for your "convenient, bundled service." read more

Do you have any idea how much time of mine and my wife's you wasted? more than an entire week that is how long. I tried to get our Internet service transferred over to our new place for a week. EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU GAVE ME A DIFFERENT EXCUSE. Here is what happened: Prologue - We called on a Wednesday to let you know that we were going to be moving and we needed our service transferred starting on Saturday. You shut us down immediately. We made an appointment to get the service turned on Monday. You told us that you would not have to get inside to get service switched on and that we could keep our old number. Monday - You leave a note on our door letting us know that you had to get in when you originally told us that you didn't need to get in. Friday - You come out and activate our line but now we have a new number even though you told us we could keep the same number. I notice later in the day that i could not connect to the Internet. I call you and you tell me that the line and new number is active but the Internet service won't be able to be switched until Monday. You said thatt it should be up and running by 1:00 pm. You lied again Monday - 1:00 PM came and went and still no Internet. I called again and they told me that they have until midnight to get things started and get the transfer work order closed. OK fine. I went to bed and tried it again in the morning Tuesday - Hey guess what? No Internet. I tried calling tech support and they gave me an automated response saying that there was an open work order to switch service. I gave customer service a shot but I ran out of time holding. Wednesday - Called again. Started with the tech support automated system before I talked to a live person to be sure that I had my information right. Once again they apologized and said they have this open work order to switch service that should have been closed days ago. They asked to give me until tomorrow to remedy this. I warned them that if by the end of the day tomorrow that this was not fixed I was going to be cancelling Thursday - My wife Lara had to call as I was running late. I briefed her on what was going on with the situation. I have no idea what they were doing but they wasted so much of her time jumping through hoops and doing all kind of technical stuff and unfortunately she was not able to find the Ethernet cable and had to end the call. Friday - Was going to check one last time before I called and cancelled. Miraculously it connected. I found out that before they wasted all my wife's time she threatened to cancel too. I guess I was at major fault here for giving them the opportunity to fix the problem rather than threatening to cancel right away. read more

Worst service ever. I've had their internet for 2 months and in that time I've had 8 technicians out to fix the problem...it's STILL not fixed. The stupid automated number never understands my perfect English. I had to call back 24 times one night, seriously 24...just to get through to the right department. And then they handled me like I was an unreasonably angry customer! You'd be angry too if technician number 9 didn't even show up. They also keep giving these technicians the wrong phone number, which could be why they don't bother to come. I've had them change the phone number EVERY single time I've called them and every single time I call them they have the wrong phone number in their system. They shouldn't have had the wrong number to begin with because I ordered it online; I have no idea how it got messed up! It's nice that it's cheap, but seriously you don't even get what you pay for. The customer service was so bad I felt like someone was pulling a prank on me. Ordered their service when I moved in; they told me a tech would come for the install in a week, on a Monday. I took off work to wait for the tech, but no one showed up, so I called, and they told me, Whoops! We have you down for a self-install, but your equipment should be coming in the mail. (Actually, I called a bunch of times. People kept saying they couldn't find my account number and hanging up on me. It took a while to learn that they were mailing the modem.) It didn't come, because AT&T forgot to write down my apartment number. I called UPS, and when the equipment finally did come, three days later, I couldn't hook it up, because I don't have a phone line. I didn't realize it required a phone jack--at least, what they sent me did. I called customer service, reached someone who seemed nice, and she told me to hold on while she checked out the problem. She put me on hold for literally 2.5 hours, checking back every 45 minutes or hour or so to tell me to hang in there, she was working on it! I know Comcast isn't known for its customer service, but I was able to get my internet connection up and running the day after I called them, and for a year at least, I get a much faster connection at a much cheaper rate. read more

Internet is slow, but the real problem was connection loss. Sent out a tech that spent a lot of time in the office with modem etc then went outside to find issues. Asked me if we ever had a landline.. Yes! Still do! One for residence, one for home office. He remarked that there was an problem but it was fixed. Then I realized one of the landlines was dead. He 'fixed it" supposedly but today it's dead. Now the internet is acting up again! THE HORROR BEGINS: Call repair service - get robot- says evaluation shows no issue. I call back. Get an actual human and takes detailed report and trouble shoots. Puts me on hold. Then another comes on and WE START ALL OVER AGAIN WITH THE SAME QUESTIONS!!! Wants to know why I am upset? Then tells me it will be 5 days before a repair can take place and is a jerk about it. Dear AT&T: I carry 2 business accounts, 2 personal accounts and Direct TV for years for $$$$ a month. Nothing but problems since I signed with AT&T about a year ago. I have a full notebook filled with names, specialists and service techs with dates and times they have had contact with me. In one year a service tech has had to come fix their problems 8 times. 8 times in one year! AT&T phone and internet service is a JOKE! I live in a small town and seriously have no other options for service! Sometimes I go without service up to 5 days. Never once have they credited my bill even though I have demanded it and have been told my bill would be credited! If I could give zero stars I surely would! read more

Absolutely Dreadful! This has got to be the worst company ever. I switched from Comcast due to having multiple receivers and not being able to start in one room and finish in another. I was sold by Tyler at the Broadway and Montrose store. Sure he was cool and convinced me it was so much better. He answered my questions and followed up with me. As soon as I made the switch and started to let him know about issues he was no where to be found. First the technician never properly installed the wiring or cables. He left a cable dragged across my bedroom floor where I tripped over and over. I called and had another tech come out and was told they never did the wiring. Second thing is the internet is so slow and constantly disconnecting. It takes forever to watch a video on YouTube. I can't properly surf the net and take care of things without cursing AT&T. Third, the receivers never work. I have three of them and they don't respond to commands. I have to turn them on and off to reset every time. They are slow and don't record shows I have season passes for. I dropped wireless service due to other issues and I'm ashamed to say I thought their DSL would be better. Do yourself a favor. Go elsewhere. I will be going back to Comcast soon because they are the lesser of two evils. At least their service is decent. If you have any feedback please let me know. Just moved in From Maryland. I am used to hearing people ask for AT&T and Comcast while working in a small town. After moving to Oak Park I seriously wonder why. It took a week for ATT U-Verse to ship the modem and their connection to our building was down. Lot of back and forth with technicians. Customer service takes a lot of time to connect to a human and meanwhile they harass you with pointless data inputs and really dumb offers. Customer service - Polite yes with almost no helpful information, might as well talk to a computer or maybe they are there for psychological reasons to lend a sympathetic ear. Took off work early 4 times and its still down, do know how many times more I have to do it. Heard Comcast is no better. There are hidden charges for both Comcast/Xfinity and AT&T so chat up and find those before you click "add to cart", once you do - you are doomed, final charge is with equipment + Taxes which is close to 46% over what's displayed. 2 Things I draw from my experience, I am going to apply for a job at AT&T so that I can teach them how to run a business, assuming a big company would automatically means good service/more professional work-is mother of self destruction. Hopefully/I dream both these companies face a huge quarterly loss and gets their management fired for being so pre-historically crassically awesome Tip:- From Local Chicagoite- Be Patient-There are only 3 choices - close your eyes and pick and be patient :) read more

The 3 times in 4 years ive had issues, they fix immediately and credit my account. $10-$50 each time. Steady Internet but not as fast. Amazing user interface for TV. I made the mistake today of believing a sales pitch from an AT&T 'in-home expert' and got their unlimited plan for phone and internet, which includes WatchTV. Phone reception it horrible. Breaks up in my apartment & in front of my building. When I can hear it, it's garbled. And I tried to use the WatchTV app. Could not get it to accept my I'd & password. Kept trying to get me to sign up for new service. I spent over 3 hours juggled between 6 customer service agents in at least two different departments, and lost the connection twice. The never called back as promised on my contact number. I had to call them back, and explain my issue all over again to EACH person. Going back to my previous phone service and getting a different internet provider is sounding better by the moment. By the way, the last person I spoke to said "Oh, by the way, you just got this service? Well, it can take up to 24 hours to activate." Why, oh why didn't the person who sold me this tell me that? Or any of the 5 people I spoke to earlier? Do not try AT&T without being very careful. Get everything in writing. Get all the details. Believe nothing without written confirmation. read more

STAY AWAY FROM ATT!!! There should be a "no star" option. I don't even know where to begin with this company and the experience I had with them. It took them a week to get my Internet modem. They said based on my address and seeing the previous tenant had service..it would be a self installation otherwise I would have had to pay $99 for them to install. When I finally got the equipment, I had to wait ONE DAY to plug it in and activate but couldn't start the process until after 8pm. I get home, and at 5pm I get a call a technician asking to come in. I was confused as to why a tech was there in the first place...but thank goodness for technology....I RECORD EVERYTHING when it comes to money. So I made sure I got a recording of him saying I would not be charged for him to check my outlets. He came in, unscrewed the outlets, stepped outside and after 15 minutes of realizing he had not returned...I took a look and noticed his van was gone! I called his cell 3x and when he finally picked up he said he was 2 blocks up the street, on a pole checking the signals. He knew I was in the middle of prepping dinner for a dinner party in less than an hour...you would think he'd tell me! He said it would only take 15 minutes. 15 minutes turned into 45 minutes! He rushed over after telling him guests were about to arrive....screwed the outlets back in and did a horrible job of it, and left. He said my phone jacks were good to go. 8pm came and I could not get a signal. They bumped my installation up another 7 days!!!! I should have returned it then but I was need of internet so I figured I would give them a chance. 7th day came...no internet! It's now 2 weeks later, and I am still waiting on them to refund me the $100 on my modem. But the worst part about the whole thing is.....according to ATT, the technician wasn't even supposed to be IN MY HOME messing with ANYTHING!!! Comcast is pricey..but from what I hear, it's worth it! Why did it have to end like this, AT&T? I've had a land line and DSL through them for three years. I'd been extremely happy with the service. When they transferred from SBC to AT&T, my bill went up. I called them in March and asked if I could have it lowered. They said sure, and did so. And it was good. Now I'm moving and need to cancel. I just spent a half hour on the phone being transferred from person to person to person, each of whom told me a different thing. Basically, when I called to get my price lowered, I "entered into a contract", even though I was definitely not told this, nor did I agree to it. And to get my DSL cancelled now will cost me $99 for an early cancellation fee. I am going to take this modem and cram it up the figurative butthole of AT&T. I want to make them cry like a toddler with a broken Tonka truck. read more

I have AT&T U-verse "high speed" for $38/month. High speed it is not. It is an "always on" connection, but it is about as fast as the old modems back in the day. Starting service was a treat too. Multiple attempts to make me buy U-verse TV at a "great promotional rate." Saleswoman pitched U-Verse service as "fiberoptic," supposedly new for my neighborhood, and therefore a new line had to be installed. I said "great." Again, not only is it not a fiberoptic line, it is about as fast as my old 56k modem. Instead of ATT competing with the Cable Co, and improving cable service, ATT is copying Comcast tactics: 6 month promotional rates that seek to mask inflated prices, regular unanounced price hikes, etc. I haven't even had service for a month, and I'm told that starting 1/27/13 the price will go up to $41 month. For what?? And ATT speeds are much lower than Comcast.. It truly is a shame. I should go back to Comcast, but I can't stand them either. read more

Originally we were going to bundle our new cable and internet through direct tv with at&t internet service. We were told by the direct tv tech that we could not have their service because of the trees in our yard. I called at&t to see if we could add uverse to our plan and have cable and internet bundled. Originally I had a pretty awful experience because we were told no because they don't service our area (even though my neighbor across the street has uverse) and was transferred to someone that could cancel my appointment for internet. When I spoke with Ebony she definitely went above and beyond what she should have had to do. Probably over the course of 2 hours, she called me back and gave me updates on the progress. She was able to figure out that our house COULD get uverse and set up the appointment for service that day. Our tech was Tom Grant and he was also awesome. There was some confusion with our order because the cable was added after our internet order was placed and we were supposed to have two separate appointments. He spent close to 4 hours at our house getting both cable and internet set up. This was all on a Saturday afternoon, and he was at our house until almost 9 PM. I feel that most people would have just passed it off to someone else and made me keep my appointment for the following day to have the cable installed. He installed both and was such a nice guy. I definitely will recommend at&t to friends and family. read more

I recently added service from AT&T. U-verse 350 and Internet 50. I read a lot of negative reviews about their customer service and internet speed and almost backed out. But I called their customer service number and was connected within a few minutes to a local support person who answered all of my questions. The service tech arrived promptly and did a great job connecting everything. Internet was a bit weak so he came back a day later and installed a better modem. I am getting speeds near 50Mbps. That's great! TV offerings are good. I didn't have access to HBO per the contract but a quick call resolved that. My only gripe is that the TV search routine only wants to find on demand programs, even though they are currently being broadcast. Overall it has been great so far!!! read more

DO NOT USE AT&T for your cellular service! They have the WORST customer service ever. This is for AT&T cellular provider business. I spent three hours plus an additional half hour with four different customer service because I spent 44mins with the first rep (Maria on 6/16 at 5:07pm), going over my options in adding a line and getting a new phone. Well, while she puts me on hold to figure out the 2nd option, I somehow got transferred to another rep with no notice or explanation. So the second rep asked me to give her my information all over again before she would even transfer me to a supervise to report the first rep's negligence. But when she puts me on hold, all of a sudden the line goes dead and I hear the dialtone. So now, I've had to CALL FOR THE THIRD time with another rep (Shawn), and once again had to explain the whole situation before I can even speak to a supervisor. Shawn says I have every right to speak to a supervisor, but in the meantime while we wait that he would be able to help me. Well, I did not expect to spend another two hours on the phone waiting for the supervisor. Granted, Shawn did try to explain the different options and we did settle on one plan finally. He also tried to offer me some comps for my trouble, but the comps he offered was not satisfactory and not equal to the time wasted and frustration, so I knew I had to speak to a supervisor who would have higher authority to offer better compensation for POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I had to ask Shawn 6 times to speak with a supervisor and he said each time that it was my right, BUT HE KEPT ON TALKING. Finally I got a hold of the supervisor (Jordan at 8:34 pm on 6/16) and I had to spend another half hour to go over everything again. This time the supervisor gave me satisfactory compensation and we were all ready to place my order and have the phones deliver the next day. At this time it was a few minutes past 9pm, and he asked for me to hold so he can place my order in, and BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I WAS HUNG UP ON AGAIN!!! So at this point when I tried to call back, I get a pre-recorded message saying that their customer service department is closed!!! AT&T HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! att send a flyer claiming faster internet speeds (6 meg download/1 meg upload) for $19. They offered a 30 day trial. I ordered it but service i got was (1 meg download / 0.1meg upload). I canceled it 8 days later. 2 month later, I got a collection demand letter for $85 and I noticed they reported it at my credit report. when i called them they said I did not owe anything and they would remove it. it never got removed read more
