Wow! Finally a restaurant in Litchfield worth the price! Having grown up in Litchfield, and gone to Litchfield schools, I have spent a lot of time in the quaint, pretty center of the town and have seen many local eateries come and go. Often the food is costly and unnecessarily fancy to try to fit an "upscale" theme. At the Corner has defied the odds to provide unique and delicious entrees at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is warm but not too snobby (a fault of its predecessor, an Asian fusion spot completely at-odds with its surroundings), and its cool bar area works so much better for a quick aparatif than as a coffee bar (ala the "The County Seat" of yesteryear). The place has taken to attracting both locals and visitors to the area and fresh, locally prepared foods, and beers and wines from Connecticut craftsmen. The goat cheese salad is to die for and the garlic buffalo wings should not be missed- we were shocked at how delicious the sauce was! Prices are NOT cheap but the quality of food is 100% worth the price. Also, the manager spoke to us directly asking how we enjoyed our meal on two separate occasions. Stopped in Litchfield for a late lunch, and this place looked quaint and cozy. I ordered the Noodle Bowl with spiced Tuna and my husband ordered the Truelove Tacos. Both of our meals were delicious. The prices were reasonable, the service was good and the bathrooms were clean. Five stars! read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant while in the area and needed a cup of coffee. I didn't realize they served a full menu for lunch and dinner and have many beers on tap. They have a wide range on their menu from small plates to burgers but I had a noodle bowl with Salmon. the salmon was cooked to perfection, the dish overall was tasty and the staff was soooo very nice and welcoming. I am very surprised to have read so many unflattering reviews for this place. We've been there for dinner probably a dozen times over the last 2 years, and we've never found anything to complain about. In fact, @ The Corner is our favorite restaurant from Western, MA to Southern, CT. The ambiance is comfortable, with wood floors and an old world feel. The tables are spaced sufficiently so you don't feel that your conversation is overheard, and we've never felt neglected or slighted by the service. The menu changes every few months, so it's fun to find new favorites, and the food has never been a mis-fire for us. Everything is served at the appropriate temperature, portions are generous, (I usually take enough home for lunch the next day,) and everything we've ordered over multiple visits has been impeccable. Don't miss the Gorgonzola Fried Calamari or the Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes for starters. We've also enjoyed the Seared Sea Scallop Trio. For entres, my favorite is the Crab Encrusted Salmon, which is currently retired, but the Lobster Ravioli, Tuna Two Ways, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Citrus Marinated Salmon, and Filet Mignon Tournedos are delicious replacements. To finish, we've probably tried all the desserts, but our favorite is the chocolate lava cake. If you can find the room, it's oh, so good. Another favorite feature is the wine of the day. They serve a small glass to taste, and then you can order it by the glass or the bottle. It's usually very good and a great way to discover new wines. They also have an nice martini menu with plenty of options. If you want to try this place, I recommend a reservation. We have been out of luck a few times when we stopped in on a whim, but we've usually had no problem when we called even as late as that afternoon. read more

Stopped by @thecorner today for the first time. The three of us ordered the same thing, Shrimp scampi flatbread with corn, cheese, etc. It was spectacular and the service was great. Asked our server to give the chef our compliments. We'll be back next time we visit Litchfield. read more

Today was my second time at on the corner. I love this place. The food is great and the prices are fair. The menu changes with the season which brings me back. It's a bit of a drive for me but I don't mind. I also love that they show off local artists and you can purchase the art on the walls if you like it. read more

I met Finance Friend here one day for lunch. This was my first time here, and she had arrived before me and staked a claim at a table near the bar for us. I sat down and it was a while before our server noticed I joined my friend. I ordered a glass of wine from the hipster server, who was disappointed I wouldn't let him read off the list of craft beers they had on tap. I perused the menu he left.About half of the offerings are gluten-free, and everything on it screamed 'trendy', from the use of various flavored aioli on almost everything, through name checking all their local sources, to the overly descriptive language describing ingredients (As a note, Merriam-Webster defines 'rustic' as 1 : of, relating to, or suitable for the country : rural rustic rolling farmland. 2a : made of the rough limbs of trees rustic furniture. b : finished by rusticating a rustic joint in masonry. 3a : characteristic of or resembling country people. b : lacking in social graces or polish. This is not a word I would use to describe 'root vegetables' or 'kale'). I eventually settled on the Corner Club Wrap, which was about the only thing that had ingredients I could/would eat. Finance Friend decided on a vegetarian noodle bowl, since she doesn't eat meat. We shared an order of the Truffled Brussel Sprouts, which meant I got all the bacon while she ate everything else. Food came out quickly, and was quite good. Neither of us had anything left on our plates when they were cleared away. We had another glass of wine, and my tab was settled quickly. Service was excellent; our server knew when to approach and when not to. The quality of what we ordered was exceptional. They have an excellent selection of draught beer (not many IPAs - so a well-rounded brew menu). Prices are reasonable. The owners know who their clientele is and caters to them. If I felt like tugging myself into a pair of skinny jeans and plopping a fedora on my head to hang out, I may return. Otherwise, this is not a place I would frequent on a regular basis (and, that's me, not @ The Corner). This isn't my vibe. YMMV. read more

Enjoyed our first meal at this restaurant. Food was delicious, Baked Onion Soup and a Lamb and Lentil soup. Both were amazing. Lunch was Chicken Dish which was hearty and delish. Service needs to step up the game a bit, this is the only flaw, if I can even call it that. The servers were nice, but many different servers covered our table which, which caused some confusion. I previously had good things to say about this place. But we had such a bad experience in late Spring 2015 that I feel I should change it to a 1. Maybe the 1 is for ambiance, because it is in a good location. Long story short: late lunch arrival; not busy either at the bar or dining room. One bartender had the whole bar which had maybe 4 parties. It took a long time for him to get to us. Chatting with regulars. Slow wine service and then we got our order in and he forgot to push "send" at his computer station!!! Thirty minutes went by and we had to Ask after our order; he didn't notice himself? He went into the kitchen and came running back to his computer and pushed "submit" or whatever! The result was that our food came out sloppy and very late and of course, the whole experience was awful. By the time lunch came, we'd each made it through two glasses of wine, so who knew what we ate! No comp, no nothing. He offered a complimentary glass of wine but that was a very weak gesture especially after we'd already had 2 due to waiting. read more

We had a wonderful (brunch/lunch on Sunday) meal here. The service was excellent, the room was super cute ( we were in the front part) and the menu was full of enticing options. The TC burger was nicely prepared if not super flavorful. The BBQ/salt & vinegar chips were yummy. And, as a flavored coffee aficionado (I know, I know...), the coconut creme flavored coffee in a giant cup was a fabulous treat. The special peanut butter cream cheese stuff French toast got a big thumbs up as did most of the other items we ordered. We were a bit surprised that the Virgin Marys we ordered cost $10 each (!) but the rest of the meal was reasonable (though we are NYC folk so take that with a grain of salt). This used to be my go to place... but I just paid $17 for a Hamburger..no sides, not even the cole slaw that it used to come with . To make matters worse I specifically ordered it without cheese, it arrived covered in cheese, then the server is nowhere to be found. I have absolutely no problem paying for good food and good service. When you're charging me that kind of $ you better be on point. The food was great! The lobster Mac and cheese was mouth watering good! I loved the wall decor, especially the big wall of all famous movie lines! I tried naming all of them! :) This restaurant gives the feel of an older French cuisine with its vintage liquor advertisements on the walls. Went here on a friday night for my brother's birthday with my boyfriend and mom. We all really enjoyed our food (especially the special appetizer - a duck tart), the decor is cozy & inviting, and our waitress was so friendly and helpful. I sent my drink back (which I hate doing, but I really hated it - not the bartender's fault. I shouldn't order drinks with ingredients I don't care for), and she was so gracious. For the record, my 2nd cocktail was delicious, and we all agreed that the pumpkin martini is the best one we've had - not too sweet or thick. I didn't care for the live entertainment in the bar - not my style and much too loud, but it didn't really detract from the experience. I would definitely go back to try something else. Great food, great service & a lovely room in a perfect location. I had the spring lemon chicken and omg I've been thinking about it ever since. Cocktails were tasty, and my husband loved the local beer selection (and great tip from the server.) Our server also kindly warned him about the side of chili pepper flakes with his drunken noodles; he's a heat fiend so he used it all enthusiastically, but certainly many others would not have enjoyed that. 10/10 would return! read more

Gluten free items included flatbreads, soups, sandwiches, and even croutons for the salad! The food was excellent and well priced. Another visit to At The Corner leaves us fat and happy. I ordered the fruits of the sea risotto that was to die for!!!! perfectly cooked succulent shrimp and chunks of asparagus made the dish balanced and heavenly. My boyfriend had the lobster Mac n cheese, which was by far, the best we have ever had. The dish was solid- hot through and through, creamy and stuffed with HUGE chunks of claw and lobster meat. So I've tried this place about 4 times now at different days/times of day for the last four years to get the full experience. I want desperately to love it, but overall I keep walking out the door afterward just feeling like, "that was nice, but not amazing". Their food is definitely "gourmet" in the sense that they combine a lot of unique flavors and textures and have gorgeous presentation. The general vibe of the whole place is also "gourmet" - tap water in glass bottles, dark woods throughout, serving utensils, dishes, menus, all high-end, the whole shebang. And the prices to match. What doesn't match "gourmet" are: - their tables: seriously, every table at which I've been seated has been wobbly. It's not hard to fix and annoying. - the service: I've always had a different server, and they've always been "just okay". They do their job, but I usually expect when the prices and general feel of the place are high-end, I'm going to have a pleasant experience with the server, not just "take my order" and walk away. Idk, it would be nice to get a smile here and there. Again, can't knock them because they do their job - I just don't think their service warrants the prices - the food: As I said above, it looks and sounds fancy. But in terms of execution, I've always found their food to be two things: overcombined and overdone. Too many textures/flavors/senses in one dish, and too much of all of those things without the IMPORTANT factors really nailed down. Several examples: - Truffle parmesan wings with garlic dipping sauce: sounds great, right? But really the truffle with parmesan on already-salted and deep-fried wings was kind of assaulting to the senses, and it didn't actually pair well with the dipping sauce. For something as heavy as truffle parmesan anything, it really should have an acidic, bright sauce. Also, the wings were DRY - the most critical factor missed. - Sesame Soba Calamari with chili vinaigrette and spicy ginger aioli. Also sounded great, but it was such a hodge-podge of flavors that they all kept battling each other and then eventually just contrasted and I couldn't actually just enjoy the soba for what it was. They could have done without at least one of the sauces. Also, the soba itself ended up just being soggy - again, a critical mistake to have mushy, soggy soba. These are just two examples of dishes I've tried, and every other dish is similar. I will give them pointers for their portions - even the appetizers were big enough to constitute a full meal. And I will say that their Duck Confit Benedict entree is pretty great, nothing to complain about there. Honestly, I'll probably keep going there just because it's a nice "feel" for lunch, it always fills me up, and it's got the most convenient parking on the main street. But if you're really a foodie, just take heed that might be a little disappointing. read more

My wife, father in law and myself went for dinner on a Tuesday night. We went to Litchfield without a destination in mind, spotted the restaurant and agreed to give it a try. Easily one of the best dinners I've had in years. First, the few "negatives" I have. The waitstaff, while knowledgeable and helpful with the menu were a bit on the slow side. The time between our appetizers and entrees was definitely too long - close to fourty minutes. The tables seemed a little too small, so they felt a bit crowded when we were all eating. The restaurant itself is very pleasant. It's a relaxed atmosphere with a basic rustic decor. Classic Connecticut. The tables and seats were well planned out so we never felt cramped by other patrons. We were able to have a great conversation without feeling like we needed to talk over people or quiet down. My wife had the cod, which was our only real food complaint. She had two large pieces, and while one came perfect, the other seemed cold and undercooked. My FIL had the seafood risotto, no complaints. Personally, I ordered the Montreal Steak. The best word I could describe it with is succulent. It was delicious. I'd requested it medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. I really can't say enough good about the dish. Simply put, every time we have eaten here, we walked away impressed. The menu is extremely creative. Great selection of hearty foods, all composed with an artistic flair. Whether it's simple onion rings, a bison burger, lobster mac and cheese, etc... all the dishes we have tried are simply delicious. Whether you're in the mood for sea food, meat, or just bar fare, you won't leave hungry. The beer menu is deep, and the coffee selections make for a nice desert. In addition, the waiting staff has always seemed attentive. Prices are pretty fair-- we usually spend around $50-70 per meal, including drinks and appetizers. We always seem to leave with great ideas for cooking our own dishes (or simply trying to copy what we just ate!), which pretty much says it all about this place. read more

My husband and I came for an early dinner. I had a cappuccino to drink (I have to say i get excited when I see a cappuccino offered anywhere) that was tasty and not too strong or bitter tasting. For dinner we ordered the pulled pork sandwich and Roost burger with side salads. The salads were good size and crisp. Their balsamic dressing was thick and flavorful. When our sandwiches came out were were surprised by how large they were. The pulled pork had a corn relish on it that really made the flavor pop. The Roost was a chicken burger that my husband had guacamole added to. It was very good. Both were served with a broccoli slaw that was refreshing. Stopped in tonight for a quick dinner for 6 people without a reservation. The staff were very accommodating to tried to find us a table which they did in the bar area which was fine. Our waiter Matt was very funny and attentive. I came in very hungry and said I need food now, Matt jokingly put all the menus in front of me and said " Here you go" , I thought that was so funny. Also my husband spilled his beer and when he asked for another Matt brought one promptly and jokingly told my husband how to accurately pick up the glass so as to not spill it. , Now on to the food!! I ordered the Pesto flatbread which was absolutely delish!! My daughter had the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese which we all kept sneaking some from her it was that good. My husband had the burger on Brioche and absolutely loved it. My only problem was my husbands salad came after he was done with his burger, but not a big issue!!! Will definitely go back!! read more

Went to this restaurant Friday night for dinner. Keeping in mind that we are in the middle of a pandemic and are going to restaurants where they are paying attention to the health and safety of staff and customers We are both fully vaccinated but wore our masks into the crowded restaurant taking them off at the table. So it began. Not one staff member was wearing a mask and while initially we felt comfortable because those diners that were mask less were seated and eating or drinking. However turns out that was how they arrived. It was as if there was no Covid and no pandemic as customers arrived happily massless knowing there were no restrictions at all at this restaurant. It was blatant and shocking and during the time we were there we only saw three or four people arrive with masks on. It showed the total lack of respect the owner of this restaurant and one other has for both staff and patrons. In fact when we asked one staff member about it they seemed uncomfortable and it was as if they had been told not to wear a mask. We will not be going back to this restaurant and suggest anyone who might be at risk or who just wants to be careful at this time not go there. All of the other restaurants in Connecticut that we go to the staff wears masks and diners eating inside wear masks when they are not at their tables. A lovely spot. I've stopped at the little bakery part of the restaurant many times in the past for a cup of soup, a pastry, a cup of coffee - just a quick lunch on the go. But I'd never ventured into the restaurant till today. I don't think it was open at lunchtime on some of my previous trips through Litchfield. The lunch menu had a variety of soups, including some tasty sounding vegetarian options, salads, appetizers and a range of sandwiches. I couldn't resist their take on a lobster roll - a panini with good cheddar and big chunks of lobster. My friend ordered the lump crab sandwich with cheese on an english muffin. Both were delicious. And their french fries were amazing. Not sure how they make them, but they had a crisp tasty coating that was delicious. And the service was great. The waitress knew we wanted to share the sandwiches, so she split them, arranged each plate with half of each sandwich and gave each of us a generous side of fries and cole slaw. I ordered one of the lunch specials, stripped bass taco. I was expecting a taco with some Mexican flavor. What I got was a taco that had no taste except for the dark meat of the stripped bass. We were never asked if we would like another drink. When she came around and asked if we were interested in dessert, I stated no but showed her the stem to the avocado and the abundance of dark meat from my fish..... her reply that's good and went to get our check. We stopped here Sunday evenig about 6 Pm on our way back from Vt. Terrible experience. Ordered hamburger and a scallop dish. Waitress scarce for about 45 minutes. When we asked the scallops appeared. 10 Minutes later burger camer sans side and catsup. Asked for both and it took another 10 minutes. When i opened the bun the burger was charred on top and uncooked on the bottom. I returned my meal uneaten and had nothing else. No resoonse from management of the restaurant. They didn't appear to care. read more
