Notice. Grill marks are mechanically placed. Not from a real grill.

Absolute trash. My wife and I ate here and were disappointed with our food. So today we decided to give them another chance. Nope. Terrible. 12 dollars for a gyro with 3.5oz of precut gyro meat from the freezer. 16 dollars for some romaine, 4 olives, 4 pitiful slices of tomato, and some American-like cheese they're passing off as feta. How is this place still open??? You guys can't be that naive to eat this slop. Fake grill marks on the meat. Cmon, you're not fooling anyone.

This was $11.95 by itself. Enough said.

See picture for reference. This was $11.95 by itself. Absurdly overpriced meal. Save your money.

Did a DoorDash with one of Athen's pizza. It was made perfectly and delivered very quickly. From James to Johns Island and the pizza was still hot. Amazing!

We were in the area and stopped in for a quick early dinner. They're taking all the COVID19 precautions, face masks etc. They're also using all disposable plastic ware - plates, serving dishes etc. which I can only assume is also because of COVID19. We opted to sit outside in a nice courtyard. Service was excellent - well taken care of, without being pestered. The food came quickly and we enjoyed it. It had been a while since I had greek food, and it was all very good. I'd stop in again when in the area.

I feel bad because the food was actually good but the service was so terrible, it ruined the whole meal. The food took about 45 minutes to come out and the servers (all women) were some surly, mean spirited gals-clearly overwhelmed-but not even remotely trying to be friendly to customers. Our server took our drink order by yelling across the order instead of coming to our table and taking it. We needed one to go order as well but I asked her to put that on a separate check so our companions wouldn't have to pay for it. Her response was "we'll cross that bridge when we have to". How about just saying "ok"? Ugh. No thanks. If I wanted someone to serve me with an attitude, I would have eaten at my mother in laws for dinner.

The pork kabobs are excellent and service was perfect. We also had the gyro pita platter and it was delicious.

I went to Athens for lunch with a group of friends (4 ladies total). I'm a big fan of Greek food and they seemed to have a pretty good menu, so I was excited to try it. After it was suggested, I checked it out on Yelp but I still went with an open mind. FIrst, if you want a quick lunch, this is not the place. Our lunch took quite a long time- well over an hour. It seemed like it took awhile to get our orders, bread, salads, entrees, and checks. Our server didn't really come back to check on us either. The restaurant was steady but not crowded. Maybe they were short staffed in the kitchen, or maybe it just takes this long, but none of us had a special order. It took awhile for us to get our checks, which was frustrating since I had to go back to work. Along with the service, I also found the food disappointing. I had the vegetarian lasagna which came with a side salad and we had a basket of bread for the table. The bread was okay, but the olive oil for dipping was good. The salad only had one olive, one tomato, one cucumber, but it had enough feta cheese. For a side salad, I did not expect a meal, but I really could have used a few more olives and tomatoes. The lettuce was romaine, at least, and not iceburg. My entree, the vegetarian lasagna, was quite deceiving. It came out and looked like a good meal, but the actual portion of lasagna (cheese/pasta/vegetables) was smaller than a Stouffer's entree. The bowl was mostly marinara sauce and melted cheese. The lasagna was fine, but I could have used a bit more. It was only a few bites. After eating it, I was left with a lot of marinara sauce. My friends' portions were not that big either. One friend had the salmon salad and the piece of salmon was quite small, and the salad lacked a lot of toppings. Another friend had the gyro platter which looked a bit bland. I can think of better places to get Greek food in Charleston and better places for Italian foods like lasagna. It's frustrating to pay $11.95 for an entree for lunch and leave wanting more food.

    Calamari
    Frida G.

The Calamari was delicious.... but the gyro platter..... ehhhhh. I wish I would've gotten more calamari instead. Maybe I just have high expectations, but I'm used to having more flavor in a gyro, thinly sliced and a little bit more in portions. The potatoes could've used some more flavor too. I love that you had delivery, but I'm not sure about ordering a gyro from here again. I think I'm going to try a few other locations to see how they compare.

Who would eat this mess! Burnt uneatable!

Athens used to be a fabulous restaurant. Now they don't have old favorites on the menu like Pasticio, and the Spanakopita was fair, at best.

While we were out walking on King Street, a local recommended Stella's, and I'm so glad they did. We walked over from our Airbnb and immediately loved the space. The restaurant has two U-shaped bars in the center, which is my husband and my favorite place to sit when dining out. We went in with zero expectations and hadn't even looked at the menu beforehand, but everything ended up being incredible. The drinks were fantastic, and our bartender/server was so sweet. Even though we were one of the last couples seated that evening, we never felt rushed and were able to enjoy the meal at our own pace. We ordered the non-breaded calamari and a shrimp dish, and the calamari was honestly the best I've ever had. It was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and the artichokes that came with it were so delicious. Every bite made me happy. We finished with the tiramisu, which our bartender recommended, and it was absolutely outstanding--easily the best tiramisu I've ever had. I'm still dreaming about this meal and would come back in a heartbeat the next time I'm in Charleston.

We were surprised when we walked in and the bar was actually low, with low, spinny bar seats. But it actually was pretty unique and fun! Our server was excellent and gave us great recommendations. We started with the Stella's Kalamari that had sun-dried tomatoes, capers, and artichoke hearts. It was very flavorful and delicious. Something to keep in mind here is that the portions are pretty large. Perfect for splitting dishes and a lot of food for your buck. The stand out dish for me was the spanakopita. It's a flaky, crispy pastry with spinach and feta inside that you dip in tzatziki. What's not to love about all of that?? We splurged a bit on our entree and split the braised lamb shank. The lamb itself was pretty good, but what I enjoyed most was the pasta it comes with. I would maybe suggest trying a different entree. It wasn't my favorite, but it was good. For drinks I got the Cretan, which had cucumber infused gin, lime, rosemary and thyme. It was so refreshing and just what I wanted. I will definitely be coming back here and recommending it to others!

The hummus is homemade. I had chicken Lula and it was really well seasoned and some of the best I've ever tasted. The only downside was the price. It was quite pricy for a lunch but with that being said, I would still return for more of their food. I just wish I could have tried more of it.

What really separates these falafels is the robust range of spices and complex flavor into the traditional falafel, texture and flavors. The falafel appetizer platter came with four pieces and they were basically gone as soon as they arrived to the table as our entire family ate immediately. Including our pickiest eating family member, who enjoyed theirs too! Exceptional! The halloumi is fantastic and cooked perfectly. It had a nice seasoning on top of it which differentiated it from others I have had before. Everyone at our table enjoyed it. It came with four pieces. The grape leaves were a delight. They had a more robust complex flavor palette than Greek style grape leaves. They were served warm, however they were not dried out like sometimes grape leaves are when they're brought to a table warm. These were beautifully seasoned and had nice moisture to them. The size of each was about that of a ring finger. I can not remember hot many pieces were on the plate but it was more than 4. We ordered the chefs hummus with the pine nuts and pomegranate seeds. It was delicious and a great texture. Pretty much par for the course. My entrée was the Mujadra lentil and rice dish. The flavors were absolutely phenomenal. At first, I was thinking about getting the lentil soup for lunch, but then decided to try under the vegetarian section of the menu the lentil plate. The lentils and rice were placed in a circle mold on the plate. With pretty pieces of salad coming out from four different places. There were pine nuts, chopped, and placed a top of the rice and lentils. Everyone at the table tried my dish and even though we all four have very different favorite flavors and foods everyone agreed it tasted phenomenal and was absolutely delicious. Another family member ordered the lentil soup. They really enjoyed that and they also took some rice off of their spouse's plate and put it in the lentil soup which was a nice pairing. Spouse had the beef kebab cooked, medium rare. The temperature on the kebab for cooking was absolutely perfect! The texture pinkness, and overall cooking was beautifully done to a true medium rare. He had french fries as his side those were just as perfectly cooked as everything else that came out of the kitchen of this restaurant. They were nice and crisp with a good flavor. Three of our four family members tried and agreed they were very nicely done fries crispy all around and not floppy soft. Another family member ordered the Shish Tawook. They were completely in love and smitten with the garlic sauce that came with it. It is divine and tastes beautiful on the chicken. Rice was beautifully cooked as well. The accompaniments of lettuce, pita and oil was delicious. Dessert was baklava. Like every other part of the meal, we had it had a really nice blend of spices and flavor to it. We got it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. All of the desserts on the menu are made in house. One of our family members doesn't tend to like homemade ice cream however she liked this ice cream because she thought the texture was really brilliant for it being made in house at a restaurant. The baklava comes with three pieces. I would love for them to open a restaurant near where we live. If we lived here we would come in 2-3 times a week. Near the end of our meal, we heard some of the restaurant team speaking with another table of regulars. We overheard that they were short staffed that day as someone had called in. We never absolutely would not have guessed that. They seamlessly checked on our table, brought everything out in a timely manner, and none of the plates were hot like they had been sitting at expo waiting to come out to the table for a while. It was wonderful hospitality, with great care and checking in. Our server was a sweet and attentive person. Simply removing plates as we finished and refilling drinks. No one at our table was in want or need of anything as he kept it all well filled. I think the biggest compliment I can give is one family member always has room for dessert. They loved their meal in the appetizer so much they could not have any dessert. Which coming from them a huge dessert person is quite the praise.

It is also a wrap, not a pita. I love pita, but it is neat that they serve wraps too, since most places don't. Others in my friend group ordered rice bowls, which was a really large portion for your money, and one friend's gyro looked solid. One of my friends is gluten free, and if you are, you'll find lots of options here. The same goes if you're vegetarian. Everyone was able to find something here with no arguments, which is always nice with a group. The prices seem a little expensive for what you get; at least I thought so with my wrap. Rice bowls seem like a better portion for the money. I would come back again with friends, but I would try something else next time.
