Decided to try a new pizza place today. AMAZING pizza! Served hot, but didn't burn my mouth. The cheese is gooey and leaves long strands hanging down when you pull up a slice. The crust is crispy and perfectly done, with chewy edges. The sauce is slightly sweet. Ten stars - this'll be our new favorite pizza place. read more

I present this review with two perspectives. The perspective of getting a hot pizza with ample amounts of cheese and good flavor and the resulting next day when i feel like i very well could be dying. Don't get me wrong I love the taste of there pizza but don't think it is worth feeling like i had a cannon ball shot at my stomach the next day. Wings, like wise, have great flavor but make me feel a little sick the next day. A little drab, dusty and dank on the inside of the building this place could be in a scene of Black Mass, everything here feels like it could be back dated to the 80's. Everytime i have come here there has only been the one guy with glasses, I am guessing the owner. Could use a little improvement on his demeanor and dealing with the customers. Tried the roast beef sub, good size, fresh, price was right. Wife got the antipasto salad, she enjoyed it too. Inside needs am update, but all in all a fine experience. I ate here growing up. There was always the conflict to go to the greasy pizza at the Barn or come here where the pizza was always salty. Recently I was in town and I stopped in for a family sized square cut pizza. The guy behind the counter gave us the same "rude" demeanor I have read on the other reviews. But if you talk with him, it is just how he has acted for the past 20+ years working there. He does not treat people rudely but rather that is just how he is. He has always been an experience at this store. The pizza was good and what I remembered from this Jaffrey pizza joint. used to be good but in the past yr the pizza has gotten worse and half the time when i order a gyro the meat has been hard. today they messed up our order giving us a veal grinder instead of a dinner , and my antipasto i ordered was Not an antipasto but a greek salad with ham n salami in it , antipasto usually has pickled veggies in it along with salami and pepperoni. starting to think i shouldn't order there any more. read more

This is exactly what you would expect from a local pizza joint. We ordered steak and cheese, buffalo tenders, curly fries, wings, and chicken skewer. We did have to wait for part of our meal (the chicken skewer) when the rest of the order was ready. In terms of food, the wings were AMAZING! Other than that everything else was pretty basic. Athens is the only real pizza in Jaffrey, so I'm limiting this review based on this constraint! Pros: Fresh toppings, lots of options, and the chewy "Greek style" crust that most people are ok with. Service is fine if you call ahead. Good, small collection of beers on tap. Cons: Expensive for what it is. Minimal atmosphere. Overall this is fine stop if you are coming back from a hike, heading to your summer house, or just need a pizza fix and want something a step above Domino's. Athens was our favorite local pizza spot, but after repeated instances of poor customer service, the diminishing quality of the pizza, and cost vs. value, it's just not cutting it anymore. I grew up near a Athens Pizza, and always enjoyed the quality and consistency of their pizza, and subs. When we first moved to the area, we were excited to find that the pizza at Athens in Jaffrey was virtually the same as the pizza we grew up with at other Athens locations. But over the course of the last year we have encountered increasingly poor and rude customer service, to the point where we have gone elsewhere. For example, we were going order a party pizza for my birthday last year and the older male employee who took my call was so rude to me that there was no way I was going to spend my birthday buying mediocre pizza from some rude chump (Owner? Manager? Whoever he is, he is the worst, but always seems to be the one manning the phone) So we decided to go to 5 Guys in Keene instead and the food and service there was top notch. The 80's retro decor in Athens is fun and nostalgic, I actually like it, but it quickly turns creepy and outdated when coupled with poor service and mediocre pizza quality.The most recent pizza's we've had there seemed smaller than normal, had less cheese than they use to, and even the crust seemed skimpier. Athens isn't the worst pizza in the area, but with poor customer service, decreasing quality, no menu online, no website/Facebook page, they're not trying very hard, and don't seem to care. read more

We eat here every so often. This place has good pizza and subs (I usually get a steak and cheese - comes out terrific). The pizza is among the better in the area (other choice for great pizza is Pizza Barn up in Peterborough). As for the negative reviews regarding employee rudeness, we have found all the employees except one of them to be friendly and polite. The Pinays working there are great, as are a couple other of the non-Pinays. The older white guy is a bit odd, rarely speaking... I thought he was mute for the first couple of years we were going there, until one day he finally said something very brief. I'm not sure what's up with that. read more

We love Athens for their grinders - lots of toppings and sandwiches to choose from. We haven't tried their pizza, I like Pizza Barn in Jaffrey for local pizza. We haven't had a bad sandwich yet. For service, the staff seems indifferent but they are fast and I always appreciate fast service. The restaurant appears clean and so does the bathroom (but could use remodeling). The prices are extremely fair for what you get. The guy from NC is comparing apples to oranges when it comes to prices - we lived in NC and everything down there is dirt cheap. When in New England you have to expect to pay a bit more for what you get...that's just the fact of living here. read more

Ok, so the food here is your typical pizza joint style food, and it is decent. Ive had better, but Ive also had worse.... Prices are good and fit the food well, however, my only qualm with this place is the owner/staff.... Ive never dealt with such a rude, miserable person. I was warned about how rude they were, and I did not believe it. When I went ther, i felt like I was being harrased by the owner for not being a"local", it was surreal.... However, as I am often in the area, and there is not much else around, I will probably order from there again as the food is not bad.... Just dont plan on good customer service or even feeling welcome while youre there! read more
