I used to go to Athens on 88th and Denison all the time. Recently the quality of the food has hit rock bottom, the dough tastes like they reuse pans that aren't clean and that are soaked in cheap olive oil. The sauce (which USED to be the best part) is bland, tastes like watered down canned sauce, even the cheese has changed and tastes like they mix salt into it. I don't know what happened to this place, either they stopped caring or they just got lazy but I will not return. Especially when they seem to raise their prices every other month. I picked up my order and the building smelled like there was something dead somewhere, I noticed mouse droppings under a shelf where they store soda so I think I know what the death smell is. The pizza here is pretty good and they have a lot of different choices to choose from. I recommend trying them at least once!

My family orders from here at least once a week, delivery,the pizza is always hot and fresh delicious. Today I ordered hot wings along with our usual half sheet.... Let me tell you, those were the best wings. The service is always fast and friendly, really nice people. Ambiance it was delivered but I'm sure it is amazing just like the service and food! I ordered two Italian sausage sub and they both were large that came with really little pieces on the sub. The cheese was really burnt to where you couldn't tell it was cheese. And the bread was so hard it felt like I was eating pizza crust. Had to put some ham gravy on it to soften it up. I also ordered mozzarella sticks and they were hollow no cheese in them. Remember this is pizza, not lobster; it's supposed to feed a crowd in minimal time & money. (1) A 16" cheese pie is $13 & a half sheet cheese is $15. That's a lotta pizza! Pro tip: $2 off XL rounds on Thursdays! (2) Athens bakes the pizza till the cheese is evenly brown & gooey - the best! (3) They don't skimp on toppings when you order a variety and their sausage is THE BEST sausage in the city! It's flavorful, a lil spicy, a lil bit oily & finely ground* for incredible distribution over your glorious pie. (*expect a couple big chunks too - pop those right into your mouth hole before you bring the pizza inside to your loving family). This is an old Skool pizza joint in a somewhat forgotten part of Cleveland on Dennison. Don't expect anything from the outside but you know what *they* say about books and cover bands. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe the 1 star reviews are blown out of proportion but I had a great experience at Athens . This is an old school "meat and potatoes" kind of pizza place. If you're looking for some premium toppings and artisanal pies you're in the wrong place. At Athens you should probably stick to a cheese/pep/supreme kind of pizza My pepperoni pizza was ready for pick up in 20 min, pepperoni was crispy, perfect amount of cheese, crust was crispy but not overdone. This is a classic neighborhood pizzeria. Small operation. I always pick mine up. Great tasting. They can have long delivery times. So try and do carry out. You won"t be disappointed. My only complaint is they are not open on Sunday. My review is for the Denison location. read more

I just waited 2 hours for a salad to be delivered. The soda was warm. I asked for utensils as I just moved. I have a back injury and couldn't get out. I have proof that I ordered utensils and don't appreciate being called a liar. These people are rude and incompetent imo. I'll call Marcos next time. The salad was awful read more

I went to Athens Pizza on 88th in Denison Ave as it was listed in the NEO Pizza Contest and was in the top 15. Ordered a large pepperoni, thick crust with fresh mushrooms, After a long wait the pizza came out looked anemic on top, the pepperoni not cooked and canned mushrooms on the pizza. Additionally, the pizza was made with a pre-made shell, when getting near the crust it was doughy like a loaf of bread, the layered shell came a part. I am a chef, so I was clearly aware of what I was eating. Save a trip to the Hood, and head father west to Dante's Pizza on Rocky River Drive in Cleveland, or head into Lakewood for an Angelo's Pizza. Both are better and were also in the top 15 NEO Pizza Contest, the difference is, they belong in the top 15.... read more

I would have given 3 stars because my calzone was decent (though in the future id have them skip the chopped up deli ham) but the garlic Parmesan wings had no flavor and when the delivery guy came, he just sat in his car and laid on the horn until I walked to his car to get my food. Then he sifted what looked like a hoarders stash of receipts to end up just asking me what I ordered. It was the most awkward delivery I've ever experienced. That guy is beyond his delivery boy days. I called to order some sheet pizzas for a party but they refused to deliver to my address even though i only live 1.9 miles away from the location that delivers. They even told me that the last house they deliver to was just a couple doors down from mine!! Terrible customer service. I told them I could walk 100 feet from my door to meet them "where they deliver" and they would not accept. Awful people. read more

I grew up eating this pizza, every Friday for years it was and always is Athens! I've never been dissatisfied! Always fresh pizza and the sauce and crust is unlike any other! The only con I'd have is you can't dine-in. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but don't let looks fool you -- the food & staff are AMAZING!! read more

I have been going here since it opened across the street from where they are now. The best pizza I have had in my 66 yrs. I no longer live in the delivery area but will make the trip to get this pizza every time. They don't skimp on the toppings, you get plenty. Never had to ask for extra cheese because they actually put a lot on it. Don't know what that so called chef T.C. had but must have been a bad day. I have never gotten a bad pizza from them. I would not recommend this pizza place to anyone they're very rude disrespectful they got our order wrong and ended up to be our fault they wouldn't replace it they wouldn't give our money back they actually ended up calling the police the Pizza Boy from the back came out and was wildly rude and told us to get the hell out of his establishment so for future reference keep Athens Pizza out of your considerations to feed your family you probably would be better off to go to the Salvation Army and eat for free read more
