When we drove up that little Mansion we could not believe our Eyes. Directly on the water in a magical setting...something we will never forget and definitely will revisit! We were greeted and got a tour that justified its history. We did have perfect weather conditions, so when we came back from dinner, we enjoyed ourselves for a little walk around the gardens and lake. The view from our balcony was stunning...you really have to pinch yourself...just making sure you're not dreaming...it made us feel happy as can be. The next morning...David prepared a beautiful spread of breakfast. Crab &Swiss cheese omelette, roasted Yukon potato, turkey bacon, country sausage, the bread basket had lavish varieties and customed as well towards my girl who has celiac disease with gluten free options, Room tempered butter, I think even the raspberry marmalade was homemade, fresh berries...I mean nothing was missing and it was put together with such care. Since we were the first of the season...David was able to join us. What a great morning we had thanks to him...thank you so very much!! A must see venue, that is highly recommended!

Beautiful weather in mid October made for a wonderful weekend getaway for our 20th wedding…read moreanniversary..  Peggy warmly greeted and checked us in followed by a property tour. The building was quaint with each room tastefully decorated with cool and funny schoolhouse memoirs.  Well kept grounds included a pool, vegetable garden, vines and bicycles, with close proximity to local restaurants and shops.  We enjoyed the balcony for Schoolroom #4 every opportunity we had. The claw tub bath/shower provided a functional look into the past while the outdoor bath  provided a unique treat of showering under the stars. We ordered the wine and flowers package and were delightfully happy to see that the flowers were beautifully arranged in a vase in our room.  And the wine chilled upon arrival just begging to be enjoyed. Our gourmet breakfast was sparse but tasty with fresh squeezed OJ.  And dinner hosted by Chef Meseret was exquisite dining at its best.  She loves cooking and it's reflected in her dishes. .. every item was fresh and flavorful with the generous crab cake entree a show stopper.  It was all crab.. no fillers, just a bit of egg to hold it together. We had an enjoyable weekend and hope to explore the area more on another visit.

When I arrived I went straight to my room and dropped off my luggage then roamed around the property. I felt extremely safe at that moment and for the rest of my stay. The property from the moment we turned onto the driveway was breath taking. I sat on the porch waiting for my friend to arrive. Upon her arrival she was also impressed and so happy we chose to stay here. The rooms were great. I was at Cobb Island. Roomy bathroom, air conditioner window unit, ceiling fan, large windows, comfortable bedding and a curtain to draw in front of the door for added privacy. My friend stayed in the Rogue Island suite. There was no air conditioner in the room but two fans available. The sun comes shining into that room heavily in the morning. Nice view of the water. Bathroom is a little small, but perfect for one. The room itself is perfect for one, maybe two if it's a short stay. My friends words on her stay: "The room was smaller, but comfortable and perfect if we weren't planning on spending too much time. It wasn't too small, just smaller -perfect for a single occupancy. The grounds were gorgeous and I appreciated the hands off approach. The company in the morning was lovely. I loved all of the different amenities and areas of the house we had access to to suit our needs. Breakfast in the morning was simple and perfect. The first morning was this amazing quiche.... Hoping to get that recipe to add to my cookbook, sliced strawberries and coffee. The second morning was a scrumptious banana bread, sliced strawberries and a simply seasoned fried egg. It was all delightful. You have access to the kitchen whenever you want. We brought lunch back and ate it outside. There is a fire pit out back you can use. Some notes: there are some fine tuning things that could be taken care of by a grounds keeper or anyone else. Trimming back the foliage going down to the dock, spraying for bees in the white covered "shed" near the water, clearing leaves from the pool, replacing burnt light bulbs and a major dusting inside and outside, especially outside on all the porches. Otherwise it was very clean. In the end we enjoyed our stay and look forward to stay again!! I'm easy to book again.

They helped us transport our luggage from the ferry and when we were preparing to return to the mainland. The rooms are comfortable and include private bathrooms. In the morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of pancakes, fruit, potatoes, and bacon. I would definitely stay again. There are three rooms available for rent. We also enjoyed borrowing the bicycles and the kayaks to help us explore the island.

We could not have asked for a better place to stay while visiting Richmond. My boyfriend lived in…read moreRichmond for a couple of years and we were returning to the area to celebrate his birthday. Our number on priority was location, and The One was beyond perfect. It's within walking distance of Richmond's greatest museums as well as the popular Carytown neighborhood where we spent much of our visit. When we arrived, Sean and Polly weren't at home, but we were provided with an access code to get in to the guest rooms. We were absolutely floored when we walked in. The One only has two guest rooms, which makes it the perfect place for privacy. Our room, The Dream Suite, is located at the top of the stairs and is beautifully decorated in shades of deep red. My only very minor gripe is that the bathrooms are no located "en suite." Instead, they are directly outside the rooms. So while each bedroom does have its own bathroom, you do need to leave your room to get to it. Not a huge deal since there are only two guest rooms...but you can't traipse to the bathroom naked at 2am, either! The parlor is located across the hall from the guest rooms and is not only a comfortable lounge spot, but is also stocked full of snacks and beverages. This is also where continental breakfast is served in the morning. The spread is pretty standard- muffins, bagels, cereal, etc. It didn't particularly suit my fancy (way too carb-heavy), but it's the type of breakfast my boyfriend loves. Sean and Polly were fantastic hosts; very attentive and friendly. Honestly, they were the best B&B owners I have ever interacted with. You can tell that they truly love what they do. Turned out to be a great decision. The Innkeeper met us and gave us a short tour and history of the property and showed us some of the rooms. What a great building and location! We stayed in the Washington Suite and there was only one other guest there that night, so it was like we had the whole place to ourselves. That night we had a bottle of sparkling wine outside by one of their fire pits. In the morning, we got up early and walked around the property. They have a boat house with kayaks and fishing rods for guests. There's an historic cemetery on the property where a relative of the British Royal Family lays at rest. The breakfast was wonderful. Again, there was just one other guest there, but the kitchen offered their full menu. The food was delicious, service was great and overall it was an excellent experience. She started us with a delicious cup of coffee each day (specially blended for the Inn by the local roaster) at our bedroom-so good that we bought 4 packages for our fam/friends!
