She maintains the extraordinary customer service and knowledge that makes Athletic Soles a consistent asset to the community. My podiatrist gave me a list of shoes to consider - I stand most of the day in my job. I had taken my time in finding the right pair at Athletic Soles and went back multiple times at different hours of the day to try shoes. Didn't matter if I made a purchase - the staff recognize that good quality shoes are an investment and repeat visits are understandable. I stopped by because I developed pretty severe foot pain, and I was looking for better shoes. Holly was beyond amazing! She really took the time to listen to what I needed, and not only she found a great shoe and inserts for me, but she showed me some calf stretches. She was truly amazing. In addition, the store is nicely laid out and has a wide variety of athletic shoes. I got a pair of Hokas and a pair of Vionic sandals. And they have some pretty cute leggings there as well. I bought a pair of Hoka Clifton 9 running shoes from Athletic Soles two weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier. I've bought only Asics running shoes in the past, but I have Hoka slides, so I know how incredibly comfy they are. It was time to try Hoka running shoes. Holly Wick, the owner, is an elite runner and is incredibly knowledgeable. She took the time to understand my challenges, including a chronically sore heel. She watched my gait, looked at the wear pattern on my shoes, discussed the pros and cons of various shoe types and brands, and suggested exercises for my plantar fasciitis. She had me try on and try out (running outside) three models of Hoka shoes. All of them felt great. The ones I chose still feel great, after a few walking and running workouts over the last two weeks. The combination of Holly's knowledge and her inventory (I was surprised she had three relevant models of Hokas in my size) will make Athletic Soles my "go to" store for running shoes from now on. read more

I'm on my feet all day and couldn't find ANY shoe that was comfortable. My feet and back hurt all day I stopped in a couple weeks ago, Patrick was great and helped me with a pair of Brooks and insoles. What a difference, I am so much more comfortable and pain free. I LOVE THIS STORE! Cole helped me with an arduous fitting for shoes offering a better arch for my poor feet. What an extraordinary experience! He was knowledgeable, super patient, and kind. Did I mention knowledgable? He watched me walk up and down the floor to check the pronation of my ankles, and he brought many shoes for me to try/compare. Can't say enough about the comfort of my new Brooks either... so glad I stopped in becuase my feet are on cloud 9. The big surprise was checking the price online for what I bought. I had the best experience at Athletic Soles this morning. I came in looking for new Hoka running shoes after going to 2 different stores that didn't have them. Third time is the charm because this store had plenty of Hokas! The service was incredible, as the employee really took the time to determine which shoe was right for me. She analyzed my walking pattern, took measurements of my feet, and inquired about my workouts. As a bonus, she invited me to the store's running club. Pretty good store but not perfect. I did walk out with what I wanted which was shoes and the service was good but here's what I didn't like: 1) sale shoes are in boxes stacked on the floor so you have to open and move each box-no ones gonna do that 2) three of the four display shoes I asked about were not even in stock 3) the armband holders for phones only come on small, where is the variety? None of these are big enough to not go there but they are easy fixes that would make for a better experience. read more

I'm a runner and training for an Ironman. I have been having a nagging injury that just wouldn't go away. I went to a podiatrist who told me I needed guidance shoes which I thought was odd but they supposedly know what they are doing. Fast forward a year and the guidance shoes only made the issue worse. I went into Athletic Soles and they determined that I have a super neutral foot. Haven't had any foot/ leg problems since! Athletic Soles is an amazing locally owned store which I am more than happy to support. The guy working the store was very patient with me, and even put me on the treadmill with my new shoes to make sure they worked for me and my running style. As a tri-geek they have a lot of cool products that I love. They have a Wednesday night running group, and half-marathon training on Saturdays. Definitely a great store. read more

I ALWAYS buy my shoes at Athletic Soles in downtown Petaluma. I don't remember how many years she has been open, but it has been my go-to place since the opening. And it's not just shoes they sell--you can purchase anything that is related to workouts--gear, socks, clothes, you name it. Her staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. You might be able to buy cheaper through Amazon or one of those big box stores (maybe), but I am a firm believer in supporting LOCAL businesses. You will see Holly running the streets in Petaluma or working out at the track with other Petalumans. She is involved with the local community and supports all things local, too. Not only did they do that but gave me another thirty days to decide if the anti pronators they provided worked with the existing shoes or if I wanted to change to a new model. Just go in once and you will be hooked...and ask them as many questions as you want; they will have the answers. As with most apparel these days you can find a better price online but when it comes to shoes you better think twice about that. Shoes fit us each differently so it is important to have a professional take a look at you and help you select what will work best for what activity you are doing. ...and talk about a professional!!! Holly not only trains for and competes in Ironman Races (along with triathlons, marathons, etc) but she trains others to do so too. She is very knowledgeable about all facets of running, biking and swimming and her store is like no other in the area. She was able to help me diagnose a problem with my knee that my chiropractor could not. She gave me exercises, which fixed it within a week, and got me into shoes that would relieve a lot of the stress that my regular shoes were causing. My original shoes were not cheap but they didn't fit well and weren't made for my physical makeup and running style. Holly solved all that. If you are just starting out or looking to continue challenging yourself at your current sport the most important issue is your health. Holly will help you stay injury free and/or recover from injuries so that you can continue to enjoy your chosen sport(s). If you are just looking to buy cheap shoes for non-athletics there are tons of places you can go...but even then, you really should treat your feet right no matter what you are doing. Nothing is worse than having to walk around all day on sore feet. Can we talk about flip-flops/shower sandals/thongs??? Apparently those things are worse for your feet (and ankles, knees, back..and everything inbetween) than wearing high-heels. Well, I wear flip-flops all the time and she introduced me to the only brand that is designed by a podiatrist and they have helped me stay injury free. They also carry SUPERfeet, which are awesome insoles. They carry every shape, style and flavour of shot blocks, gels and water additives. If you run, bike or swim she will have the gear for you (well...other than the actual bikes). ...and get this, not only are the prices very competitive (even compared to online shops) but Holly stands behind everything she sells. Another thing that I really like about the store is that they are very active in the community and not just for sports related activities. They are a great contributor to what makes Petaluma such a wonderful place and any time there is a festival in town they are sure to be hosting some part of it. They are even working towards bringing the marathon back to Petaluma after an absence of over 60 years. Oh ya...and they have a website...and not the crappy type that companies throw up in order to have a web presence. Hell, you can check out the schedule and join them for their "run club"...for FREE!!! They have links to coaches and they even have a section where you can submit questions. This is what I look for in a website - something informative, not just an ad for brands that are carried. They even have a buyers club that gives you discounts as you purchase...and you don't need to carry around an extra card in your wallet; they use their 'puter to keep track of everything!!! You are not going to find a better place to get your gear and it all comes with the helpful advice of Holly and her staff, who really know what they are doing and know how to treat you like family. ...and they care; they truly care about you enjoying and getting the most out of which ever sports interest you. read more

I have been longing for a pair of walking shoes that would give me comfort and ease in walking. Holly spent an hour with me asking relevant questions, looking at my specific gait, and trying different shoes and orthotics until she was satisfied that she had fitted me with the best possible combination possible. I walked out of the store feeling like I had invested in a shoe that would do well for my specific needs. As I left she reminded me that there was a return policy that stood even if the shoes were worn outdoors. Excellent locally owned store with superb service. I have been in a couple of times, and both times the guy working the floor was friendly and helpful without being overbearing or pushy. Holly helped out with evaluating my husband's funny gait and high arches (sorry dear; it's true) and seems to have picked out a pair of shoes that work really well for him--so no more excuses for not walking the dog. I had the pleasure of a wonderful visit at this little local store today. I came in with some very picky requirements for a pair of new shoes and was expecting the errand to be a long and irritating process. I couldn't have been more wrong. A woman by the name of Sylvia helped me through the entire ordeal and it was because of her that the experience was an incredibly positive one. She was helpful and enthusiastic the entire time, patient even with my intense indecisiveness, and never tried to upsell a particular item just to rush me out of the store allowing me to take as long as I needed. This was also all while she was the only employee in the store, rushing constantly from one customer to another delivering the same excellent service to them as well. The three times I've been there I was fortunate enough to have Holly assist me in making the right purchase. Holly answered all my questions and even advised me on avoiding pitfalls. She took the time to go into detail on some lessons she has learned based on her experience doing multisport competition such as the Ironman. I've driven, walked, and ridden past this shop countless times but never ventured in. But yesterday I was in the market for a pair of cross-training shoes and checked it out. Although I ended up going home without making a purchase, my experience there was top-notch. The salesperson was very busy with several customers because she was the only one there temporarily but was most courteous and helpful. She had a sweet disposition even though she had her hands full, and showed me several pairs of high quality shoes, making sure I was trying on the appropriate shoes for my specific needs. The selection of athletic shoes here is very good, all high-quality products--obviously the buyer is either a runner or ex-runner; either way, experience is implicit in this particular range.
