The two that did call, only returned my calls after calling them twice and emailing them several times. The majority of my emails came back undelivered. I would say it was a waste of my time, but I don't consider it a waste of time when I am trying to find a home for an animal. Sadly to say, I had much hope because of the number of rescue groups listed. However, no one on the list reached out to help. Big disappointment.

Before they brought him out, they warned us about how he looked. He had come in starved and severely matted. When he came out what we saw was a friendly, happy dog. He knew they had saved him. He came home with us that day! They sent us home with a container of special food for him. Since then we have been back for a weigh in and check up, an injured leg (he hurt it having too much fun), and neutering. Each time he was welcomed enthusiastically and with much love. The vet (Dr. Anna) took her time to talk with us answering all our questions. The day after surgery the shelter called us to make sure he was recovering well. All communications with Homeless Pets and in particular Susannah have been positive, helpful, and timely. If you are looking to adopt a pet, I can't recommend Homeless Pets enough!

Don't recommend this pet rescue at all. They lied about the dog's health and didn't give any…read morerecords at pickup. The dog was bleeding from its bottom the first day and after notifying the rescue who also has a vet on site, they only said "it will clear up". A vet never called to check on the dog or asked to see it. Once they got their adoption fee and got rid of the dog, they didn't want anything else to do with it. They claim they get dogs healthy for adoption which is completely false. After multiple messages to the rescue and getting no where, I took the dog to my vet who performed a $2500 surgery the same week. I gave the rescue an opportunity to make it right, and they refused to compensate for any of the cost. Very disappointed in a local rescue who claims to be looking out for pets. These are the facts, and they know what they did was very wrong.

Also, their name is a misnomer. Many of the posted cats are not even remotely "feral" rescues. My last conversation with an employee/volunteer went south when I started asking too many questions and trying to set up a meet appointment. Lady was very rude & evasive. I point-blank asked if the cat had already been adopted. She would not give me an answer or set up a time to meet. I found my dealings with this org very odd especially for a rescue non-profit. I adopted a rescue cat from an animal shelter & had zero problems.

I had my first foster dog for a few months and she recently got adopted to a wonderful family. I can't tell you how cool it was to help a dog who literally was on death row at a local shelter to get healthy again and then to find a new home. AARF made it a really easy and rewarding experience to volunteer and they help wonderful animals find great homes. There are other rescue groups in Atlanta and they are all doing amazing work. I'm certainly not saying AARF is any better than any other rescue group because I haven't volunteered with any others but I am saying that the people at AARF rock and I really love working with them.

Fostering an animal while it finds a home is one of the best things a person can do. Animals in tiny cages where they don't get room to run and play can get issues that can take years of training and care to treat. But, give a homeless animal a temporary home while you find a permanent one and it can learn from your other pets or just get used to what it is like to have a nice home. I am still training my dog on some basic lessons, but once she's ready to teach others, I plan to foster. Check their web site if you want to foster or need a pet yourself!
