I tried this place on my lunch break one day. It was walking distance from my job. They had gyro in the name so it seemed like a winner. Didn't have to lose my parking space, a recent Chicago transplant I was dying for a good gyro. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I got there and it was fairly busy during lunch. Good sign.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I looked over the menu and saw they had Italian beef. If you know a Chicagoan, this seemed like the holy grail of Atlanta restaurants. Italian beef sandwiches and gyros are 2 of Chicago's biggest and loved sandwiches. I go with the Italian beef with cheese and hot peppers. I get back to the office and sit at my desk, opened my food, and was so disappointed. This definitely wasn't it. My first clue was asking the cashier about the sandwich and her really having no clue of what it was. There was more bread than meat. The flavor wasn't there and the gravy/au jus wasn't hitting either. It was just a skimpy roast beef sandwich. I let a couple of coworkers try it and they weren't feeling it either. I just threw it out. If the owner sees this, I would recommend sourcing your Italian beef from a brand that specializes in it out of Chicago. You can find it at GFS or Sysco. Look for Vienna brand, Scala's, Ditka (the food company of the former Bears coach Mike Ditka), or Buona beef. Also, don't skimp on the sandwich. It's pretty much just meat and bread with optional toppings. Just saying put some respect on the sandwich. It's also made on good fresh French bread. I haven't been back after that. It was also the last Italian beef I tried in the Atlanta area. If you make a hot roast beef sub, that's great, but don't call it Italian beef. read more

Long time resident of Rockdale county and came here many times over the years. My wife and I decided to pop in last week....later in the evening with about an hour left on their open sign. Grabbed a table, got the menu....made our orders (lasagna for me; chicken parm for the bride) and settled while the kitchen was making food....freshly made food. Foremost...the place is homey. The people that I saw there and coming in behind us were uniformly blue collar; leathered gloves types that were hungry. Hard workers with an appetite. Almost every one were there right from work; on the way home from work....or already back home to pick up their wife to go out for dinner. Nothing pretentious about the place....these guys aren't into Italian decorations and knick knacks, they came for the food. They all looked happy and they all left looking content. They all took their hats off when they came in the door and when the food arrived; they all said grace. Tough guys like it homey, clean and good. Ditto for us. The salad with the meal was...ice cold; fresh tomatoes just cut, a helping of cheese and peppers with a wonderful vinagrete dressing. Small things speak volumes....the salad is alway the first indicator for us. The food came out just perfect and with the warning about not touching the baking dish as it was very hot. Myself....I've heard that warning many times...and touching the dish proved that the server was wrong. Not here. Just like it needs to be....hot enough to sizzle and finish cooking down the food even while off of the fire or out of the ovens. Our waitress wasn't lying...unlike other places that tell the servers to say that line to offset any premise of liability. Our gal was shooting straight with us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food was wonderful and the surroundings were both clean and polished; table was cleaned and washed down after each patron left as were the seats before being put back into place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Why did Atlanta Pizza & Gyro survive while most of the restaurants around this area have closed down and now sitting vacant? It would include all of the above....good food, welcome and homey seating areas, friendly folks working each table, great food at a very reasonable price....and everything was fresh, cold or hot with clientele that enjoy a good meal with their families and can find it right here at this location that survives and thrives each downturn by having just the right ingredients for their food and accommodations for all. I wanted to like this place, but I can't. The food to me is very bland and no flavor. My husband and I both ordered lasagna meals with salad, cheese, breadsticks, and baklava. Nothing was wonderful. No garlic flavor, no Italian flavors, even on the garlic cheese bread sticks were bland. The Greek salads were iceberg lettuce with 1 small slice of tomato and chopped onion (onion was the best part) and a little cheese. I wasn't impressed with the dessert either. I have been coming here since I moved here in 2001. They are consistent in their food. I have had Lasagna, Greek salad, pizza, Greek potatoes, spaghetti, and Just about everything on the menu- I don't like gyros so haven't tried them. They all are really good Garlic bread is just ok, not fantastic and huge portions. I went for lunch today and again, very good. We used to go here every Monday for trivia night. It's a mix of older to kids. A nice clean restaurant. It could use an update but overall a great place to grab a meal. They do have cold beer which is a plus. read more

This is my jobs local jaunt they are consistently pretty good. Very rarely do they have an off day. I will say if you get pizza go for the personal pan 6" pizzas not sure why but those are better than their large pizzas. The Greek dressing is fantastic! Had the Chicken Parmesan that comes with side of spaghetti and greek salad. The salad was very good. The Spaghetti and Chicken were kind of bland so had to add some extra pepper and parmesan cheese. Speaking of, their cheese was in "to go" packets, not a glass container like most places have. Could not taste any oregano or other seasonings in the sauce. I at least gave them 3 stars mostly due to their waitress (Madison) who was on top of it all. I never had less than half of a coke before she brought me out a new one. Always cheerful and she had many tables to cater to, including a family of 12 in the center of the restaurant. So hats off to her. The one thing that irked me was they charge you extra to use your credit card: 3.5% I believe. They do not display that all on their menus. I did notice a small sign when I waited for the cashier to ring up my ticket. Most likely would have not noticed it if cashier was at counter when I walked up as they were no where to be found. It's just a nominal fee however it appears they try to hide it without disclosing on their menus. Nothing to argue about however just wanted to mention it to future customers since they don't disclose it fully. read more

I was truly not excited about eating here after reading the reviews but my boss suggested we try it and I couldn't tell him no. I had the Italian beef sandwich with Greek salad. Salad came out quickly, fresh veggies and lettuce with a good salad dressing. When my sandwhich arrived, I somehow missed that there was no cheese on it. She added provolone. My first bite, I was impressed! The bread was soft inside yet crunchy out which is perfect! The beef had really amazing flavor. Then you add the au jus in the mix, flavor bomb went off. This sandwich was really good. The hostesses all helped one another. Service was quick. People were kind. What more could you ask for? read more

I was either an Idiot or time has changed my perception... but that's all time has changed there. The same carpet, tables, equipment.... even had a 90s box tv mounted on the wall next to the 10 year old working flat screen. The greek salad was pre packaged, the fried pickles were frozen in a bag 10 mins before I ordered em and I'm pretty sure the meat between the stale pieces of bread on my phillycheese came out of a can that said alpo on the side. I know Conyers has gone from an upperclass community to cesspool, but if its still there in 20 years hopefully they'll have at least taken down the 20 year old tv. read more

Service was good took about 15. Pizza was good, however, missing something to my taste buds, but good. I was hungry. Lol. The crust was soft and thick. I really prefer thin crust. I did not think at time to ask for thin crust. Will try again and ask for thin. Not a big bread person. You can dine-in as well. read more

I had previously heard bad stories about this location, but I rarely believe those so I decided to try it for myself. The parking lot and restaurant was packed, so I considered that a good sign. I ordered the 10 inch special pizza and when I got it, it looked a bit different from most pizza I have had. First, let me say that the server was totally fine. Really no complaints about customer service at all. However, this was hands down the worst pizza I have ever had in my life. I was actually astonished by how bad it was. The service had always been above and beyond and friendly, but when the manager complained about a Groupon coupon that THEY had offered, and said he HATED those things.
