It's a sad walk. You can see it really had passed its glory days. There are still people who offer rides within the boardwalk while pushing you and there is a electric mini van that accepts only creditcards. Alot of homeless standing by and roaming. The Atlantic City Boardwalk is one of those places where you can have a great time, but you do need to stay aware of your surroundings and avoid any potential conflict with the many homeless people living along the boards. Constant police activity helps manage nuisance behavior, and during our walk we saw a few interactions between officers and people on the boardwalk. There are a handful of shops that are genuinely helpful when you're staying in one of the local casinos, with prices that are noticeably cheaper than what you'll find inside the resorts. At the same time, there are a lot of closed‑up storefronts and repetitive shops selling the same tourist items over and over, which can make some stretches feel a bit rundown. Even with those downsides, the ocean views, breeze, and easy access between casinos still make the Boardwalk a unique place to wander for a bit, as long as you go in knowing what to expect. read more

Every street is named after a location on the Monopoly Board game. Old school wooden boardwalk unlike the common cement or blacktop. Several businesses were empty or filthy with vagrants lurking everywhere but one with excellent marketing ability (see pic). Lots of pizza and taffy shops and Welcome to Atlantic City apparel boutiques. Noticed a few cops in the area checking on the businesses. The casinos were dead and a couple were gone with trees growing out of their parking garage. Walking during the day was highly questionable at times, but absolutely not a chance at night. read more

This place is beautiful. I am from Miami and I know nice beaches. This one is nice and the boardwalk is even nicer since it isn't too old of. built. This is a nice place mostly during summer because during the fall and winter it gets too windy and cold. I love that it has a long passage way with much to see but I feel like it lacks character. The Fall is my favorite time of the year to visit the New Jersey shore. The weather is still warm, fewer crowds and the attractions I'm interested in are still open. The Atlantic City Boardwalk dates back to the late 1800's when tourists would flock to Atlantic City and boards were laid down to more easily navigate the sand. At that time it was called the "Great Wooded Way". Today it is recognized as the world's first and longest boardwalk. Increased recognition came when the first Miss America pageant was held at Boardwalk Hall in 1921. After Hurricane Sandy, New Jersey invested $90 million dollars in renovation. Today, the Atlantic City Boardwalk offers a variety of entertainment options. Boardwalk Hall seats 14,700 patrons for top line concerts which I have taken advantage of, championship sporting events, family shows and community functions. One of the world's largest pipe organs can be found here. Other attractions include: Central Pier Arcade & Speedway, the Steel Pier (rides), Tangers Outlets, luxury spas like Qua Bath & Spa, Celebrity chef restaurants (Gordon Ramsey, etc) and popular chain hotels like Caesars, Bally's and Harrah's. One of the best things in Atlantic City is walking their world famous boardwalk. Not only is it free but you can see various wildlife such as cats, squirrels, seagulls and bunnies. The seagulls will take your food if you decide to feed one. The bunnies will generally run away from you if you get too close. The squirrels have learned to approach humans to see if they get food. I gave one of them a cashew that I was eating and they have now remembered me and approach me each time I pass by. read more

I hadn't been here in years and decided to visit during the long weekend. It has definitely changed over the years as expected. I recall the days of a bustling boardwalk filled with shopping, busy casinos, and museum. This time around Ripley's museum was closed (sad to see such a big empty building), casinos were moderately filled, and a steady flow of cart pushers that made walking the boardwalk a sport. I understand some may not be able to walk the full boardwalk and these carts could help, but they should really designate a lane just for the carts. They weave through people and then there is the Hard Rock tram trying to move through. This makes you constantly have to dodge them both as you try to take a leisurely walk. This is a bit dangerous at night when you may not see them as clearly. The area around Ceasars casino is very well lit, but as you go towards Margaritaville and Hard Rock it is darker. Lots of shops selling basically the same thing - souvenirs, clothing, $5 henna art. They sell ice cream, funnel cakes, pizza by the slice, Italian ice, etc. The nicer restaurants seemed to be inside of the Hard Rock casino. The carnival area is usually packed as people try to weave through games, stand in line to buy tickets for the rides, or buy carnival food. Ferris Wheel tickets were priced at $12. read more

Nice little stretch and world famous. I usually only go from Tropicana down to Show Boat along the boardwalk. In between these two places, there are tons of things along the boardwalk. The Steel Pier is cool as well as another arcade that is set similar to the Steel Pier. Shops, restaurants, massage places, tarot readers and more ha. Plenty of things to do and see. I like just walking up and down the boardwalk. It's nice during the day and at night too with all the lights. read more

It's been 15 years since last visit, so the current conditions were shocking. Imagining incredible views of beach, boardwalk, and skyline while expecting to see a few down on their luck, "street people." This past weekend, we saw a disturbing number of downtrodden and addicted individuals who have taken over the boardwalk. Outside of the hotels and casinos it smells like weed (lots of people are smoking it all over). We saw folks twitching, or slumped onto the ground. Others are on high alert, eyeing you up and down for any hint of valuables. Thankfully, there was still daylight, because I'm confident even worse horrors await the night! Due to imminent safety concerns, I hired a guy to push us in a rolling chair. He wanted $20 to get us to Tropicana (No!) and he immediately lowered price to $15 (still no) then went to $10 (yes). It's beyond belief and a mystery worthy of investigation how local officials have managed to allow a historic boardwalk to become such an overwhelmingly rotten Hellhole. This used to be a great place to visit with or without children. The boardwalk still has so much potential: beach access, a beautiful oceanfront, casinos, resort hotels... A once loved shopping pier attached to Caesar's has become desolate. With excitement, we entered the mall seeking a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean from the far end of this once upscale shopping destination, but ultimately left in a hurry to avoid becoming a statistic. There is absolutely no security and all the shops were either boarded up or vacant except for a "we buy gold" jewelry store and a candy shop devoid of any customers. So, we survived a daytime walk on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. However, once one exits the hotel/casino the entire area is fiendishly dangerous. Venturing outside is a risky business. This was a really pretty place at night. I loved the string lights. There was a lot of people to watch! I think after dark, it's not really a place for kids. It almost turns into Vegas. Good for me, I don't have kids. There are a lot of restaurants, shops, and casinos. You have beach access right from the boardwalk. read more

The Boardwalk is actually quite pleasant and nice compared to all the recent reviews. But then again, I only traveled within the vicinity of Oceans Casino to the Steel Pier. Quite clean, not too crowded, and the boardwalk is well maintained compared to other piers and boardwalks I've been to in my life. I heard the seagulls will get aggressive if you're carrying open food around so best to keep everything wrapped until you make it into the hotel. read more

There's the good and the bad with the Atlantic City Boardwalk. For beach goers, it can range and be pretty good. They don't allow your chairs or umbrellas on the sand, BUT you can rent theirs. There are multiple areas to go on the beach, but what makes this place different than the other shore towns and boardwalks along the Jersey shore are the casinos and resorts here. Atlantic City could be so much more and so very easily if the greedy powers that be stopped being greedy and used even half their brains. They do try to squeeze as much money as they can from the people, yet don't use that money to fix the issues and improve this place. The boardwalk itself can be a nice walk on a nice day, despite the crowds and such. I've been here a few times more recently and there's not too much litter around, so it does look cleaner than one would expect. They do need to fix some of the nails in the boardwalk as they do stick up sometimes. A lot of the shops along the boardwalk have rude business owners, are overpriced, sell junk or garbage food, souvenirs, stuff you can buy cheaper elsewhere, and just exist typically. The food places range, but you should know what to expect there. I do wish there were better businesses here, but AC isn't doing as well as it once was and this is all that's left. The little trams can take you down and up the boardwalk if you don't want to walk. It's slow, but not terribly. There are the guys who use the carts to push you, but taking the tram is better for the wallet. The cart guys can be aggressive and annoying like NYC cab drivers. The crowds range. You got your tourists, weirdos, creeps, beach goers, and the oblivious. At night, the riff raff and hoodlums come out - so if you're with children you may want to be cautious. I myself almost tripped on a switchblade open on the boardwalk. That's the type that are on parts of the boardwalk at night. Some police presence is around at some spots. There is a decent amount of seating around. The seagulls can be annoying here. The hotels/resorts range - some are much nicer than others, but you can walk into each of them and carouse the businesses inside. The Steel Pier is what it is. Don't expect Disneyland - just expect a mini Fair on a pier. There is a helicopter ride that will take you down the boardwalk and back. There are spots for arcade games and such. There's a lot to look and see at various spots along the Boardwalk. You don't need to go to the beach to enjoy a stroll. The Atlantic City Boardwalk can be nice and it is usually. It can be even nicer if the powers that be actually put some thought and money into it. While it will never be Vegas, it can be so much more than what it once was and is now. read more

Better than I expected. Clarification, my expectations were very low. I have never watched jersey shore, but have heard enough to think it wouldn't be my cup of tea. I do enjoy anytime I am near the ocean. Cleaner than I expected on boardwalk and felt much cleaner than Ft. Lauderdale and Miami Beach but less clean than Santa Monica Pier. Many dead areas between shops. Good variety of transportation including hand carts and little shuttle trains. Beach had a lot of broken glass and signs indicate the fun police had to be put into place likely because people have made poor choices. Basically can't play catch, no umbrellas, no pets and the list goes on. Overall not a bad little area. Good mix of old dingy Vegas meets an ever so slightly sketchy florida beach. read more

Very active on summer sunny days. So much to see and so much fun. It is just by the ocean, so the condition of the wood Pannels and the buildings isn't great. But with so many people walking around, and with a rock band playing, this is a nice place that not to be misses if you are in Atlantic City. Outside the boardwalk are it is Atlantic City. Nice Little Boardwalk Along The Ocean Littered With Junk Shops Trying To Sell their Souvenirs... The boardwalk itself is pretty nice and it moves along the beach nicely and provides a nice spot to take a walk. I have a bit of a dislike for seeing dozens of little Junk Shops selling all the same junk souvenirs as the next place to tourists. It would seem that there could be better sampling of cuisines too, but its mostly some middle eastern people with the same menus for the same types of food or pizza spots strung along the walk. If you get past the barraging of junk for sale and focus on the ocean side, ti is a nice spot. The homeless people abound with their hands out for donations so they can get booze and drugs. The Atlantic City Boardwalk was originally built in 1870, it served as a way of keeping sand out of the front doors of the shopkeepers and hotels. The structure was removed at the end of the tourist season. The Boardwalk became extremely popular with the tourists and was extended in length, and eventually was as long as 7 miles. The great hurricane of 1944 destroyed much of the structure, it was then rebuilt but not as on a grand scale. Contrary to popular belief, Hurricane Sandy did not destroy the Atlantic City Boardwalk that story was based on a photo of an isolated section. When the railroad brought access to Atlantic City in the late 1800s it became one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Huge hotels where constructed which were then replaced by others as time went by. In 1974, casino gambling was legalized in Atlantic City. And the Boardwalk once again showed a resurgence in popularity. Now the Boardwalk remains a beautiful relaxing Seaside destination, whether you like the gambling or not. As of word of caution, for your own safety. At night avoid the almost completely closed and barren North End, and stay in the busier areas between the Tropicana and the Steel Pier. I really like the boardwalk! Despite arriving after the severe hurricane, the city did a great job repairing the area for tourism. The newly constructed boardwalk (minus one section in the middle) looks great. Add the good looking people, the casinos along the boardwalk, and the various shops and stalls, and you got yourself a great community. One thing we'd want to do next time we return is to go down to the beach - it looks amazing! read more

Atlantic City Boardwalk has seriously gone down Hill, not that it was anywhere near the top in the first place...There are many Junky beach stores selling cheap imported wares at way over-priced rates ...Many Closed Casinos ...The Steel Pier Mall is a Ghost Town.....People don't even get dressed decently to go the FEW Casinos left or even for a casual entertainment show...it feels like a Low-Class, Low-Income Tourist Boardwalk.... The Boardwalk Trolley hardly ever runs and is always filled with handicapped Senior Citizens....Swimmers going directly from Beach to Boardwalk and dragging the dirty charcoal colored beach sand with them littering with each step.....I will save my money and go to Virginia Beach read more

The AC Boardwalk is terrible. Pay $10 to park and walk past vagrants walking several blocks to the Boardwalk. Then it is dirty and full of low class people who throw their trash on the ground. Vast stretches are just casino fronts, no businesses. Very sketchy place. Get ripped off and have to argue with crooked chair pushers who can't or won't communicate. There was no police presence, it is out of control. Gangs of youths were tearing up and down Atlantic avenue on dirt bikes and quads pulling wheelies. If does not feel safe or clean. read more

Atlantic City clearly has a homeless problem and the boardwalk seems to attract large volumes to the point where you cannot walk any distance without being solicited. I was even solicited in a casino sitting at a machine. It is dirty and It does not feel safe and cannot even enjoy a nice day or sit on a bench. If you are an early riser there are plenty sleeping on the benches an on the beach. The casinos are decayed and no longer have the glamour that they once had. I would never bring children and why are bikes allowed all day? read more

Nice shops. The deal for the little tram for the entire day was a good deal (8$ i believe). It went at a nice speed and we were able to get on and off wherever we wanted. Lots of eye catching attractions and plenty of time to people watch if that's your thing. read more

The longest Boardwalk in the USA! I will always love it here, the summer beach culture is always alive and well in Atlantic City...plus where else can you find restaurants as top notch as this NEXT to a gorgeous and clean beach with Chair Rentals!!! I enjoy Atlantic City for everything EXCEPT gambling and drinking -- I'm happy with its' oceanfront beauty, rolling carts, Steel's Fudge and its' HUNDREDS of restaurant choices...by daytime, it's actually a lot more wholesome than most people think. read more

The boardwalk scene has definitely died down, people still swarm the beach, but the boardwalk is now just full of cheap knock off crap and expensive fried food. However, there are arcades, if that's what you're looking for and it's still a part of Jersey culture worth a stop. Not to mention the hotels on the boardwalk are beautiful! read more

This is the first time coming to the AC boardwalk that I literally felt disgusting walking from point A to point B. From the second I walked out of Ballys on to the boardwalk I got hit with an overwhelming stench of weed.... that smell intensified and carried out throughout the entire walk to the little arcade. It was overly crowded and dirty with plenty of questionable people on benches and blowing cigarette smoke in your face. I was here just last summer and it was NOTHING like this. There was not even one cop in sight. I am not sure if covid is to blame since people can't smoke in the casinos or drink indoors anymore but holy crap... filthy! I don't think we lasted more than 1 hour on the boardwalk, if that. I hope this is not the new look of AC because I grew up going here yearly and its just a huge disappointment. Its sad when the air inside the casino is fresher and cleaner than the air outside. What a sad experience! I had not been to Atlantic City for several years and decided to bring a young couple visiting from Europe. We took the train from Cherry Hill and it was quite pleasant with the Jitney waiting to take us to the Casino. The "sadness" began when we walked onto the Boardwalk and couldn't see the beach or the ocean. Why in heaven's name are the dunes up so high? Instead of enjoying "salt water air" as we sauntered from the Tropicana to Ocean, we encountered a road made of wood that was bordered by mostly cheap souvenir shops on one side and confining dunes on the other. Instead of the beautiful sight of the sand and the ocean on the water side, we were inundated with disgusting digital ads on large screens on poles that were screaming "WE BUY ANY CAR, ANY CAR, ANY CAR!!!!" Seriously? Instead of enjoying a day at the beach, I couldn't wait to take the train home. Next time I show a guest the Jersey shore, I'll drive to Ocean City. AC is no longer a family place. It exudes cheap and tacky! And that is truly SAD!!! read more

What is happening to AC boardwalk? Years ago the boardwalk was inundated with homeless and people begging for money. Than it all seemed to have been cleaned up and it was a pleasure walking the boardwalk. I am not seeing a return to how it was and maybe worse. The people are aggressive when asking for money and at times are nasty if you refuse to give them money. This Monday while taking a walk at 8am on the boardwalk I observed a young man running up to a woman and he started talking to her while she was walking. I was not sure if he knew her or not so I stayed back and followed. The guy was reaching over and grabbing the girls hand, she seemed to be talking to him but kept on walking. Than he reached over and started to give her a hug. She just kept walking and he stayed up with her. I was about to walk over to see if she was being harassed when he broke away and started towards another woman. I walked up to the first woman and asked her if he was bothering her? She said yes and she was afraid but did not know what to do. I assured her I was there if she would have needed help. The problem is there was not a police officer or one of those boardwalk greeters around. I walked from the Trop down to Caesar's and back to the Trop and never saw any security. All along the walk were people asking for money. It is difficult to find an empty bench to sit at, usually someone will be sitting there and if I sit down I am asked for money. AC needs to address this or the new growth in attendance will start to decline. read more
