In April, it was a very peaceful spot to dig some holes and admire the waves and stormy clouds. Dogs are also allowed on the other beach areas, but there are seasonal restrictions: "From October 1st to May 29th, dogs are allowed on the beach provided they are on a leash, not longer than 6 ft. I was actually looking for a place called Pepper Cove, but I can't seem to find it on the map. This beach is one of the few that allow cars, but it requires a permit. This time I just parked and walked in on the beach. Not very many people, but it was good to see a few people out in the distance with romping dogs. Happy dogs on the beach always makes ME happy. The beach sand itself is grayish, nor am I fan of tire tracks everywhere, but otherwise, an empty beach on a sunny day is four stars.

Not impressed by the overly controlling lifeguards on Avalon beach! I have never heard so many…read morewhistle blows from lifeguards either. And they only allow you to swim within a very narrow area in front of their stands- nowhere else, not even wading between stands! I was bodyboarding in the same area for about 45 minutes staying within the boundaries and next thing I know an aggressive lifeguard come over to tell me to move over closer to their stand and if I had done that I could have easily run into any number of small children wading in the shallow area where the waves were depositing me. This makes me not want to even go into the water, nor would I ever recommend this place to swim. I even had a whistle blown at me for wading up to my waist! A total buzz kill! Nope , we won't be returning here next summer! Not worth the aggravation

The views across the inlet to charming Strathmere are super. Did you know the only poem in the definitive Norton Anthology of Poetry in the English language featuring a beach is the poem 'Corson's Inlet' by A.R. Ammons? If this beautiful shore spot is good enough for the poets, it is good enough for me.

The boardwalk has plenty of fun shops to stop into, and restaurants to visit. The boardwalk itself is a little bit on the trashy side, but nothing too bad. A lot of the walkway has very mismatched wood, as updates have taken place at different times. It would be sketchy to walk around here as a single female, but we felt fine walking together in broad daylight.

I would've preferred to go down south near the boardwalk to see all the casinos, but we had to head north and the water was very rough and rocky. But we laughed and had a good time. We were sitting right under a speaker and we're worried that it would be too loud, but in fact, it wasn't working and it was pretty hard to hear the person narrating however, we'd like to where we were sitting so we stayed.
