We browsed the Conch Republic Divers shop that offers scuba and angler items and is across from Chris' Bait & Tackle if you're going to grab things for your boating trip. The marina offers boat tours and rentals. The Habanos restaurant sits next to the Tavernier Creek Bridge but never got the chance to try their food since the employee refused to unlock the door 5 minutes early. Finally purchased the trailer and left with a few memories.

My friends and I rented a pontoon boat back in August, and I'll definitely be going back to them whenever I'm in the area. Booking online was super easy, and even though they were crazy busy when we arrived (we're talking full-on running around getting everyone set up!), they were still friendly, helpful, and apologetic about the short wait -- which was only about 15 minutes. They took the time to go over everything with us and gave great directions for getting to Disappearing Island, even providing a map. The boat itself was spacious, clean, and easy to handle. The docks were wide and simple to pull in and out of, and the location was perfect -- right in the middle of the Intracoastal, making it easy to head either north or south to explore, find islands, or stop at nearby bars and restaurants. The only small downside was parking -- it's a bit limited, and you have to park a few blocks away. But we just unloaded at the dock first, then parked the car, no big deal. A slightly better sign would help folks like me (the "bubble heads" ) find the place faster, but once you're there, it's smooth sailing! Highly recommend Sand Dollar Charters in New Smyrna Beach -- friendly people, clean boats, and a great experience all around!

(fishing rods, bait, life jackets, extra) Upon arrival in Key Largo, we touched base with him and confirmed our rental. He had our boat at our hotel 1st thing in the morning and explained all the bells and whistles (radio with Bluetooth, extra phone chargers, ice filled in the coolers, shrimp, squid and chum already loaded) They were all knowledgeable about the surrounding area and gave us some tips on where the best places to fish and snorkel would be. By far the BEST experience in renting we have ever had! We will definitely be renting from him again when we go to Largo!!

There was an older woman in the group who could not keep up and only after I expressed my concern about her did they double back and help her. No kayaking instruction, no nature instruction other than what not to touch under the mangroves. The guide played music and paddled away over and over at a rate that left the novice paddlers far behind. Consider checking skill levels of the group, stopping for regular check-ins, perhaps teaching about nature a bit?

We did the four-hour snorkel and sandbar excursion, and it was a blast! Captain Jack and Sydney were awesome. They were fun, engaging, and made the whole trip feel relaxed and enjoyable. They did a great job making everyone feel comfortable and keeping things fun without being over the top. The snorkeling was beautiful, and the time we spent at the sandbar was a lot of fun. Honestly, the four hours went by way too fast! What really stood out to us was the people. They're always smiling, always eager to help, and always relaxed (but professional)! They will do as much or as little as you wish to have a good dive. They aren't one of the big names in town, but they will make sure you have a great day on the water. One of the biggest benefits of a small operator (10 pax boat) is that they can go to more unique dive sites than the big passenger ships. They also can cater the site more to the level of divers on the ship and adapt as conditions change. They're also a Blue Star operator, meaning they practice the very best, safest, ecologically-sound boating practices​ that keep our amazing coral reefs safe. They are located inside the infamous Key Largo Undersea Park with Jules Undersea Lodge and Marine Lab in it. They share a dock/marina and take their 2 boats out from here. I did some work dive training with them and more recently did a Dive Against Debris certification through them (and free dive!). Both experiences were awesome and I would highly recommend Island Ventures for your Key Largo diving and snorkeling! Their shop shares facilities with Marine Lab, including clean showers and bathrooms to change in. There's also a dunk tank for your gear after and a wheelbarrow to get your gear from parking over to their dock. Come dive with Island Ventures and have the time of your life!
