Myself and my 3 daughters have been family at Atlas Jiu Jitsu for over a year now. My three daughters train 3-4 times a week at Atlas in Albany and LOVE attending. When I brought my girls to Atlas in Hudson, where we began, I was afraid to sign up my oldest daughter because she had only a love of dance and nothing else! I was afraid to sign her up, afraid that she'd lose interest. Now she's addicted and I have troubles pulling her away to go home after class is over. It's not just her, it's been such an amazing experience for my other two daughters as well. It has actually boosted their confidences more than I could dream!. My oldest daughter even competed at NAGA within her first year (which I never imagined she'd ever want to do) and won gold twice! Atlas supports that all kids/adults learn at their own pace, and I can just see my other two competing when they feel they are ready, as well as myself, once I gain more confidence which is happening more & more with each class & watching the courage in my own girls. I even learn from the 4 year old students at Atlas & the tiniest little buggers that can't be more than 3 or 4 yrs old competing at NAGA, as crazy as that seems, there's just so much inspiration in JJ at ALL levels. All of the instructors, at each location, are incredibly amazing, and each bring their own beneficial & unique style of teaching to their students. Because of my change in availability, my kids and I attend the Albany academy, but are still welcome to go to any of them at any time. We even have a kid who travels an hour and a half, usually three days a week because of his love of the academy and the friends he's made already, even though there are academies closer to his hometown. We have kids & adults who even travel to both Hudson & Albany for the extra training. You'll even catch a kids instructor jumping in on their evening off to help the kids, just out of pure love of the sport & for the kids. I joined Atlas fitness classes at 37 years of age and started JJ at 39 & never imagined how much of a wonderful experience I'd have, considering I have a very short attention span & a difficulty grasping new forms of physical fitness other than just weight training and running. Their HHH (strength and conditioning) class is also absolutely addicting, is only 30 min long and had me drop down to a healthy weight, tone up and become the healthiest I've ever been in my adult life! There's also a women's only Jiu Jitsu class, which I LOVE, taught by Ed, our incredibly knowledgeable & influential owner of Atlas, whom also instructs physical fitness classes and personal training, as well as adult Jiu Jitsu. He trains adults of all ages and all athletic abilities. You would be amazed with the array of clients and members and find it very inspirational. ATLAS = FAMILY. That's what every single Atlas member firmly believes because it is in fact one big family, at EACH location. There are ZERO members with an ego, no matter what color belt they earn. I have never met such a down to earth owner & group of people that are happy to help out even the new members with no experience at all. I started training at Atlas Jiu Jitsu at the beginning of January 2020. I've trained at several other Jiu Jitsu schools over the years as well, but I'm still a white belt/novice/beginner. I was also about to turn 40 years old and had let myself fall out of shape. I decided to get back into it after being referred by a friend who is a long time Atlas student and also reading countless positive reviews online. When I arrived for my first class at the Albany location, I was greeted by the owner, Edward Anthony. Once you meet Ed, it becomes immediately apparent how much he cares about his students and his schools. Besides being a world class Jiu Jitsu instructor and a world champion at the black belt level, Ed is super friendly, positive, and has a great sense of humor. All that helps make the classes and drilling techniques a lot of fun. Ed also encourages the students to compete in Jiu Jitsu competitions and is very invested in their success and personal growth. All the students at Atlas are also very welcoming and helpful. From the higher belts on down to the newbies, from the adults right on down to the kids and their parents, everyone follows Ed's lead and everyone takes care of each other. Atlas is a family, and I can't imagine a greater environment to train in. Since the whole COVID-19 pandemic has shut everything down, Ed started a Facebook group for all members and their families and he's still posting technique videos and using the Facebook group to keep everyone close and engaged. We've actually been able to stay in contact and get to know each other better this way. Anyway, I highly recommend Atlas for anyone that ever thought about trying Jiu Jitsu, or just anyone that wants to have a really fun way to stay in shape and be a part of an awesome team/family. read more

Top of the line facility from the mats to the showers. Very clean, calm, and friendly environment. There is plenty of mat space to wrestle and spar. Since there are strength and conditioning classes held here there are plenty of machines and equipment to work out with. Free weights, kettlebells, battleropes, medicine balls, and multi function machines are what I use, but plenty of other stuff like sledgehammers and huge tires. At the edge of the mats there are 2 thai bags for strikers since there is also striking classes as well. The locker room is carpeted where the lockers are and tiled where the bathrooms and showers are. The head instructor Edward "Wolverine" Anthony is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very clear and concise in his instruction with a sharp focus on detail. This is key because he will tell you what you are doing, and how to do it right or improve it. He has the ability to pin point problem areas in your game and will show you how to improve them. Not only are techniques taught here, but most importantly the martial code and philosophy is instilled in the students. All that aside the main reason I chose this academy over all others is because, Edward is not just about the money, he would probably teach for free if he could. Many other schools just want your money and don't care to much about you as a person or your safety. Edward has always been there for me when I was having any sort of trouble, and always there to give me the wisdom a master should. I have 3 slipped disc in my upper neck, I also have really high cholesterol, and I am 5 foot 8 and 245lbs..I am been training at atlas juijitsu for one year now..my cholesterol is now perfect without medication, I am down to 215 in 3 months and my neck has never been better..training under edward anthony is the best decision I have ever made..I am a 40 ur old white belt and because of the family environment and great coaching I have won 2 naga tournament and 1 grapplers quest..I am proud to hang my 5 gold medals in the atlas gym..my health, my energy and all around I am a better person because of atlas.... read more

I am proud to say that my family has been a part of ATLAS since 2011. My oldest son was the first of us to sign up. Then one day while i was watching from the side of the mats , Edward came up to me and asked... " Why dont you take classes ..." and the rest is history !!! After watching 2 of my children train in the kids class and gain confidence, determination, team spirit, improve their skills, as well as earn many gold medals at numerous NAGA tournaments, I thought I would give the women's class a try. I couldn't be happier. I'm in the best shape of my life, the cardio & techniques are phenomenal. I also took half hour hell classes to burn fat & gain endurance. This is the absolute best Jiu Jitsu school in the area. Great team and great facility. The owner, Professor Anthony, genuinely cares about every person that walks through the doors and wants them to succeed. It is a great community that fosters teamwork. Often times the hardest part about joining a new gym, regardless off the discipline, is worry about being the new kid not he block. I love jiujitsu and Atlas. The coaches are very knowledgeable and skilled. All the people are very friendly and makes it great place to learn jiujitsu. The strength and conditioning class is very tough workout and great for getting in shape.
