He went from white to black in the little lions program and then white to (soon) black in the junior program. I have nothing but amazing things to say. The instructors really care about the kids. They don't just know their names, they know their interests, personalities, siblings names, friends. They take the time to really knew each student. They do not push kids through the belt levels either. They make sure each child is really ready to move up before they invite them to promotion testing. My son has ADHD and really struggled especially when he was little. My husband and I agree that a major reason our son is now disciplined, respectful, and can focus better is because of Master Yang's. I even tried Krav Maga and made some great friendships during my brief time in class. Pregnancy and knee surgery kept me from going back but my son continues in their taekwondo program. This studio is more than just a place to learn martial arts, it's a place that teaches a lifestyle, character development and perseverance. Master Yang's quickly became like a home to us and we have loved every minute of our experience. I am beyond thrilled that my son wants to continue beyond his black belt at Master Yang's because I could not bear the thought of leaving our 2nd home. OK, I get that this is a contract and you have to pay your bills. What I don't get, is that Master Yang claims to b about community. When I spoke to his Director Ashley, about my financial problems that I started having, she just nodded me to death, said she understood. As I had to leave the class indefinitely because my electric was getting disconnected, numerous car repairs, and well, just a lot of life hitting me at once. This company does not care if u will b without heat, a vehicle, a job or anything else that makes it a lil easier to get thru life. They want their money, even if you're homeless. They hold one charity event a year n claim to b about community. But yet, they can watch a member of their community fall, n proceed to burden them even more financially by sending a 4000.00 bill every month with a 20.00 late fee added every month. I should mention, joining this class is what contributed to my financial problems. As they convince you that u can not proceed in class without certain equipment, or u need certain equipment, or they're changing the uniform. They want u to buy, buy, buy every month there's something else u have to have for class. If u r not fully buying whatever n whenever they tell u, than u can't participate in class. They help u get into a finacial hole, but don't help u get out. I'm not asking for charity, I'm not even asking for food that I have little of to feed my family. I have no school stuff for my middle schooler, n they want me to pay a now over 4000.00 bill eventhough I've been trying to get out of this contract since April. It just goes to show, business is business, when it comes to money. Even to the people that claim to b there for community. I would just say, if your gonna join any Martial Arts, don't sign a contract, because they will not let u out of it unless your dying, n that's questionable.

After exploring a few places, I walked into Victory BJJ and took a Saturday morning class. Victor was running the warm-up drills for the students with a watchful eye and walked me through the safety rules before smoothly involving me into the class. I was hooked. Immediately. That was six and a half years ago. I've been attending his classes three to five times a week ever since. Victor has a clear and precise way of teaching that is easy to watch, grasp, feel and understand the complex moves being taught. We drill the moves in progressive steps and eventually put them to use in the sparring phase of the class. Victor is also a very, very good grappler and creates a technique-intensive and professional atmosphere that welcomes everybody. There's no "bro culture" and the people at the gym are genuinely interested in helping each other get better without tearing people down. The kids classes are absolute marvels to watch - they get so excited at doing things right and venting energy productively! - and the adult classes are not quite as outwardly exciting, but are great places to vent energy and develop our puzzle-solving and athletic skills. Most weekday classes are from 7:00 pm to about 8:30 or 9:00 pm. For experienced people: Berimbolo and vale tudo coexist here. More of the latter than the former, but Victor will subvert the new sports bjj stuff we throw at him and take our backs while laughing quietly. Lucas is the owner and instructor. He's Caucasian, but he knows Chinese martial arts no less than Chines athletes. He studied in China for a few years and is able to read the Kong Fu code book that most Chinese could not even comprehend. Above all, he knows how to teach. He motivates not pushing. He paces each student's progress based on individual readiness. He not only teaches moves, but ethics and discipline. My son constantly paraphrases the words Lucas uses, like "early is on-time, on-time is late, and late is unacceptable...""virtuosity is doing common things uncommonly well..." The training facility is new (a year and half) and tastefully decorated. The schedule is flexible and you can find proper time slots easier than many other schools. The students there are also amazing. My son is friend with almost every student; some of them are years older. In class, they help each other. After school, they are buddies. Also I was a strict beginner no experince or physical ability and everyone else in this class was there at least a year so the stuff they were doing was not basic and very hard for an newbie to get the hang of. All in all he ws teaching intermediate Wing Chun to someone with no beginners knowledge and it was very frustrating. Never got refunded for leaving class due to his refusal to teach to my ability and not the class ability. He might be the best Wing Chun person in the world but has no ability to teach.

I used to be in moderately good shape. I could run (I guess technically it's called jogging if…read moreyou're this slow) a 5k in 30 minutes, bench press more than my weight, and do my share of pushups and crunches. Then I spent 6 years traveling the world while working in a cubicle when not traveling. Constant jet lag, eating out for every meal, spending at least 90% of every day sitting or lying down. When my health insurance offered $500 towards a gym membership, and at my physical I was told I'm horribly out of shape, I decided to find a gym to go to. I did a lot of research. Crossed out any gym that did not have someone motivating you, as I knew I wouldn't go. Also, crossed out group classes where everyone is forced to do the same thing and boxing, since I wanted the workout to be based on my personal progress and was not willing to risk injury. I settled on yoga and Top Form. The problem with yoga ended up being that they were not compatible with my erratic schedule, so I went with Top Form. I started off with Evan who did a physical assessment, which confirmed that I'm weak all around, but especially my core, lack balance, and flexibility. He then designed a program to fix this. I have had three seasons with Evan and two with Jake, and find that I'm slowly getting back into shape, but with a stronger core than I ever had. I even see a six pack in the mirror, before I eat breakfast. I find that I'm stronger, sleep better, eat better. At $50/session it's not cheap, but with the cost of healthcare, I'd rather spend a few hundred a month on a gym membership than at a doctor's office. The facility has everything needed for an amazing workout, and there's showers and a changing area for the pre-office/post-office workout. There's a spring water dispenser, and cups for the times I forget to bring my water bottle.
