Atlas Transmission is the place to go for your transmission needs. Tony is very knowledgeable and does right by his customers! Atlas came highly recommended to me from mechanic friend of mine, and now I know why. If your transmission is out of factory warranty, do not go to the dealer! Go to pros at Atlas! I had my 2008 Silverado 4L60E rebuilt here and picked it up yesterday. The truck's powertrain felt so tight and strong. I really appreciate Tony's time as far as talking to me about what I was using the truck for and giving me options on the rebuild that would meet my needs. I would not recommend Atlas Transmission to anyone with Transmission issues. They charged me 275$ to just look at my truck. When all other places usually will check it out for free. And once they did "look" at my truck all they said is that it smelt like burning liquid and the transmission needed to be rebuilt and my only two options was a dealer unit which was 8,200$ or a rebuild for 7,700$. I got a 2nd opinion and the mechanic stated that they didn't even attempt to refill it and test it. Once tested that my transmission was working fine with no other majors errors. read more

I had the displeasure of dropping off my Lexus for a transmission diagnostics. My Lexus has been having intermittent shifting issues; I have a code reader and the error code was P0761, a transmission shift solenoid code. I had heard good things through a local mechanic shop concerning Atlas, so I called Atlas Transmission and communicated the error code type and my desire for a diagnostic; basically, I need to determine whether I need a new transmission or whether the problem was more the shift solenoid/valve body. I was told no problem, diagnostics could be performed for $275. I dropped the car off, and the next day I get a call from Atlas stating that they will need to drop the transmission pan. I thought, "well of course they need to drop the pan, that is how you're going to determine root cause." I was then told that I would need to pay another $400 for them to take the pan off to complete diagnostics. So, nearly $700 to drop the transmission pan... (I should note that Atlas states they will take the "diag" fee of $275 off if you opt for them to perform repairs-sunk cost fallacy). Noticing that this was a deceptive practice, I immediately drove over to pick-up my vehicle and was told they can't release it unless I paid $275. I asked what I was paying for, and the receptionist said I was paying for an "electrical diag/code read" and "the mechanics time for driving the car around to confirm the code because he could have been working on other cars." So, I was given no new information, and was left where I had started. After I told them how deceptive this was and that I was not paying ~$300 to be told I have a shift solenoid code I had already given them, they lowered the price to $160. Great. The owner finally talked to me on the phone, and he was condescending, rude, and treated me like I was stupid for not asking enough questions about what "diagnostics" means. I thought diagnostics meant determining root cause of the error code, but I was wrong, apparently it means read codes, reset them, and drive the car around to confirm it was a mechanical issue. Thanks, I have already done that. It wasn't worth raising my voice on the phone over $160, so I ended up paying even though I received nothing of value. Tony, you should be ashamed. It will be awhile until I am able to return to work after a near fatal motorcycle accident, and it takes me a lot of energy to get out of the house and run errands when I should be resting; your shop misled me about your "diagnostics service" just to get a potential customer through the door. Your very professional and kind front desk receptionist, Amanda, is doing a lot of heavy lifting for you and the company, and I really hope you're compensating her well enough. I cannot speak to the quality of the repairs this shop performs, but I would not trust this shop to work on my vehicle after learning that an actual diagnostic costs ~ $700. Will not be recommending Atlas to anyone going forward. read more

Tony, the owner/manager also represents Champion aluminum radiators & electric radiator fans as well. I brought my old Chevy truck to his shop for a new 4-core radiator. My 69 C20 suffered during the worst of the summer months while on the freeway & the AC running. A new Champion radiator did the trick immediately, no more climbing heat problem. Thanks to Tony & his great crew for the fix. Previously, Tony & his crew have rebuilt two automatic transmissions for me & never any problems. My experience with atlas goes back 15 years or more. It used to be my go to place for automatic transmision repairs. Not anymore or ever again. I took my wife's vehicle in for a torque converter shudder. Atlas recommended a full rebuild. The vehicle has high mileage and I expected that. They quoted a price in writing. The quote itemized the parts labor and also the included warranty. When my wife picked up her vehicle the final price was significantly more than what was quoted. Atlas did not do any work that was not on the quote. They then informed my wife that the warranty would not be honored if we did not bring the vehicle back for a 3000 mile check up at an additional cost of 350.00. This was not listed in the original quote. The liar Tony now has working the front desk told me they wold be changing the filter and making adjustments for the 350 dollar service. The only filter on that vehicle is internal there is also nothing to adjust without removal and disassembly of the transmision. I went to the shop hoping to speak with Tony the owner he was not there. I then made two requests of the person at the front desk. I asked if Tony could call me. I also advised that I was willing to have a 3000 mile device done and pay for it at any other shop they recommended. Atlas is a member of the ATRA so I suggested they recommend a shop that is also a member. I didn't want to be an Atlas customer any longer once my warranty expires. I had already spent nearly 7,000 dollars to get poor service and lies. I never got a call from Tony. They never recommended a shop for the service. In my past experiences the owner Tony has been available when a customer has questions. I don't think he has much to do with the day to day operation anymore and it certainly shows. My advice go elsewhere. I used to highly recommend this shop. I have had family members bring vehicles here from out of state to use Atlas. They are not honest anymore. read more

Well, lets start off by saying I don't like this place!!! So, why the five stars, you say? Well, it's a transmission place, not exactly the kind of place that you just wander into whilst window shopping in the industrial district of your town, right? Truthfully, when my Ford F-150's transmission decided it was moving on, I called around town to about 6 transmission shops, this one was it, I could tell by the EXTREMELy polite receptionist; they just seemed to have their stuff together. Upon getting into details, they were also: -The Cheapest -The Fastest turn around -Free towing to their shop! -Very low priced upgrades! -The most robust, and longest warranty Wow, sold, I dropped my truck off and picked it up 2 days later and it was ready to go and hasn't given me the slightest problem since. I had this company reolace the clutch, flywheel and so on this last summer. They highly recommended more service as it was apparently necessary. The owner/manager pointed out there was wear in the 1st gear as it had been ran low on fluid. I asked if we needed to do a full tebuild to play it safe and he said it was unnecessary. Well the trucknhad less then 1000 milrs in it before it utterly failed after their service. The problem because they put less then a quart if fluid in the transmission amd mixed at with gear lube. I now have to fully rebuild the transmission which i had asked if we should do to begin with.. Save your time and money amd go elsewhere where they'll do it right the 1st time and accept responsibility. read more

We have a unique vehicle, a 1985 Airstream motorhome. While it's awesome in many ways, it's also been a challenge mechanically. For Us, this vehicle is a life-long dream. Over Three years ago, we took it to a Tucson automotive shop, specializing in transmissions. They rebuilt the engine, and put a new electronic transmission in. It took over a year to complete this work. After getting the vehicle back, we ended up having recurring issues with the transmission, and repeatedly took it back across town to have them 'fix' it. To no avail. Our "dream" was turning into a money-sucking nightmare. 2 Weeks ago, I contacted Tony Izzo at Atlas Transmission based on a couple of recommendations from friends. Within minutes of speaking with Tony I knew I was dealing with an Automotive Expert. His questions were directed towards high levels of diagnostic possibilities, which helped to set my expectations about the work to come. The outcome of their diagnosis was that the electronic transmission was not installed properly, causing the engine to run hot... An additional transmission cooler was not installed (17,000 lbs. motorhome) by the original shop, causing the transmission to run hot as well. The Team at Atlas COMPLETELY resolved both these issues. Throughout all of my communications with Atlas, Kaylee was friendly, knowledgeable, and ensured I was kept abreast of the work being completed. She was a pleasure to work with. I stopped leaving messages at the previous shop as they went unreturned. Update: The Bus motors down the road at lower temps, and lower RPMs. We climb hills without fear, and are looking forward trips north this summer. Our Airstream Dream is restored. Good, honest, responsive auto shop that goes the extra mile on customer service. You don't want to need these guys. But be thankful Atlas is around. When my vehicle stopped moving, I had it towed to the dealership. They reported I needed a new transmission, and they quoted me a price that made shopping for a new car a better decision. I had seen good feedback for Atlas, and my calls with the shop were very positive, so I had my car towed across town to their shop. I am very glad I did. Tony did some diagnostic work and reported that I did need a new transmission, but rather a much less expensive fix. All the while my car was there they kept me updated and answered all of my questions patiently and completely. I went in there fully expecting to have them put in a new transmission. It speaks to their integrity and customer service that they started their investigation from scratch. My car is back on the road, driving great and I owe it all to the great guys, and girl!, at Atlas. Unqualified recommendation! But I really do hope you never need them... read more

I took my car to Atlas Transmission, and I got ripped off big time. I needed the 4L60E out of my Camaro rebuilt. I contacted Atlas and went through all the normal steps, and I requested they provide me with a written estimate for a better then factory transmission rebuild that could handle up to 400whp+ which is fairly normal for a 4L60E (well within it's capabilities). They provided me with an estimate that looked great, they had selected quality components such as a Corvette servo from GM, the right "z-pack" clutches, etc. I agreed to the estimate and after a week or so they had completed the work. Then I picked the car up... Immediately the transmission just didn't feel right, I turned it around and took it back and they said it was "normal", don't worry about it it's fine. So I drove it home and everything seemed to work aside from the weird slipping. What was happening was at a stop when I would first let off the brake it would not move like it was in neutral and when I gave it a little gas to get moving it would catch and engage, almost like a high-stall converter except for the jerking motion but the converter was the stock GM factory part. After complaining and having them drive my car they continued to insist everything was normal. Then after a few months it began to have shifting problems, shifting at weird times, slipping while shifting, fluid was starting to get dark, etc. All said and done my transmission blew up (again) in less then a year and when I had a trusted mechanic take it apart and inventory the parts, it was loaded full of OTHER PARTS I DID NOT AGREE TO, a bunch of no-name foreign non GM components that weren't even supposed to be in there, all the clutches were cheaper ones and totally burned up. They probably cut costs by swapping cheaper parts in and quoting me for the good ones.. Unfortunately I moved out of state before I was able pursue this legally, however I would strongly recommend not taking your transmission to these guys, they're not interested in doing the right thing or taking care of their customers, they're clearly in the business of lining their pockets at any cost. read more

I had a terrible experience here. They do not do what they say they will - very bad with communication. The diagnostics I paid $220 for were simply a list of codes printed out in a very hard to read format. Owner would not communicate or even talk to me except thru receptionist. Forced me to purchase a part they ordered claiming it was non-returnable when it was returnable according the parts supplier. Overcharged me and I had to wait 30 minutes sitting in office to get them to refund overcharge. Quoted higher price than dealer for repairs. read more

I had the Owner/MGR Tony replace an old C6 to a AOD A/T on my 1969 Ford F100 Ranger. The engine had been replaced with a 351C so many problems occurred & had to be worked out & then cooling became an issue as well. Nevertheless, after much work all the issues were solved & I drove off into the sunset. Hey, these guys can help you with more than transmission issues. Recently had my truck looked over and reworked under warranty here at Atlas, cannot speak highly enough about their customer service. I was able to use the year warranty on a full transmission overhaul to fix a leaking shifter boot. I was only in town for a week and they got me in immediately, had the parts they needed, and got the repair done in a single day for me. It was easy to get ahold of them and they explained what was wrong, told me when it would be fixed and when I could pickup the trucks, and even met or exceeded every deadline. Cannot recommend enough, especially for diesel owners. read more

Dropped off a transfer case to have parts put in that I supplied.. a week later they gave me a estimate of over $1700 which I thought was really high.... I asked the guy if I could call the fabrication shop that was installing it to see if it was worth even doing. The shop told me it sounded way to high and to take it somewhere else, took me less then 15 minutes to make the call... I called atlas back and was told it would be $200 to pick up because they had inspected the transfer case. Long story short I paid them the money, picked up the case and got it done elsewhere for $875!! Be very careful when dealing with these guys read more

My axle went into my trans. They gave me a great quote, came an towed the car. Didn't get back to me in a week. Told me it was it $600. I went and picked it up. Drove it off the lot and the wheel barring was snapped off. It was literally hanging off how do you not see that? I had to drive back two hours later. They looked at it and charged me an additional $300. They have me a ride to my husband's car. We picked it up later that day. Now my car has other codes that I have to fix that I'm pretty sure have to do with the job that was not properly completed. I feel that this was all a set up to get more money. read more

I paid almost 4,000 dollars for a rebuilt transmission. When I got my transportation back it would not go over 20 mph. Had to pay 80 dollars to get my truck towed back to the shop the same day I picked it up. Picked it up again in a couple of days and it can't make it up the street. I'm taking it back again. This is costing me too much money. I want my money refunded and I'm calling Ed Galleck. I had to rent a car to get to work. Now I have to extend my rental. This place is awful!!! read more

I have a 2003 Cadillac and have replaced everything that you can imagine, have owned this car for 12 years and it looks and runs great so when my check engine light came on it was a really big deal. Took it to have the code read and it indicated a Torque Converter which is transmission problem. I did alot of research and called a few shops. Took it to Atlas and had a diagnostic run and received a call back from Tony. Not good news. He explained everything that was involved and costs. Rebuild it was the option. He told me that I could drive it for another 10 years but the car wouldn't pass exam. We discussed the cost versus benefits and I elected to go with the rebuild. Tony called several times to keep me up to date on the progress, it took about a week to complete and was rebuilt with several upgrades. During the process he noticed several things in addition to the trans and asked if I wanted to do that work in addition. This included a broken motor and transmission mount which cured a nagging issue I had for quite a while but 3 other shops could not find. If your car develops transmission issues your will have a choice to make ...fix it (correctly) or dump it. I cannot help you with that, BUT I can help by directing you to Atlas Transmissions for the work to be done. They are a full service shop; have really great employees and are an honest LOCAL business. The car has been fixed for about three weeks now and runs perfect. Thanks Tony and all. Bob R. To whom it may Concern I am writing this to articulate the event of the last couple week in my dealings with a merchant who operates out of your city. Two years ago my vehicle transmission failed at that time Atlas Transmission had a retail location here in Sierra Vista AZ. I had the small location that at one was much larger make the repairs. Twenty six hundred dollars later it appeared to be fixed, although I had experienced issues hard shifting and odd transmission noises they had offered to service it early. The standard warranted 12000 miles 12 month warranted has now expired. Please keep in mind that under normal driving condition most transmissions will last 150,000 to 200,000 miles easily so the advent of this type of warranted is useless for the current mechanical reliability of modern transmissions. The transmission fails at just 46,000 miles of normal driving. Atlas Transmission no longer has a retail location in Sierra Vista by this time and the local shop diagnosis the transmission as a complete failure. The remaining shop rebuilt the transmission at a cost of $2200. And their opinion was that incorrect part for that generation of transmission cased a barring failure and ultimately total failure of the transmission. I contacted the vendor twice initially when the failure occurred and was dismissed under the guise of the warranted I approached him again when the analysis performed on the transmission was provided by Dale Pete the owner of Kelley's transmission in Huachuca City. When provided evidence of the vendor's mistakes they again refuse sitting that they were not afforded the opportunity to analyze the transmission, keep in mind Atlas no longer has a location in Sierra Vista AZ. I t would be unrealistic and unreasonable to expect that opportunity. After contacting him (the business owner via email) his response was s quip and antagonistic. Bottom line the dude is a crook, probably making up a good review for every poor one he receives here......Stay away and do your business with other reputable shops send him the only message he seems to understand lack of customers and money. Put him out of business he doesn't deserve to serve the good people of Tucson. In response to the BS... Once again you are wrong or lying or being lied to. I did return the vehicle to your shop in Sierra Vista when it experienced issues discussed the symptoms with your mechanic and was lectured by your idiotic secretary about what transmission fluid was and looked like. Your mechanic said there was nothing wrong with the transmission and offered a free service. He mentioned it needed a tune up on that note he was correct. I had Jack furriers do the work, on 10-23-2013 six months after you rebuilt the transmission. If you like you can verify this with the Sierra Vista location ask for Erik. They did not drop the pan or schedule any further service's the mechanic did however mention that the shop in Tucson that did the rebuild used and earlier generation of planetary set I would assume from the 97-03 and said there should be no issues that he would anticipate. The transmission did not exhibit any other symptom other than hard shifting and what sounded like a belt slipping which I associated with a serpentine belt that noise has since stopped after the rebuild from Kelley's. There was no way a trip to Tucson would have made it and I would have had to deal with your shop again to rebuild, no thanks. In response to the latest Triad from these crooks... Tony There was no engine leaks and hasn't been one since, how do I know my driveway has been clear and clean ever since you rebuilt it. Jack Furriers a reputable shop maintenances my vehicle routinely and has never repaired and engine or seal leaks. If don't believe me contact Erik ask him about the service record I guarantee you there will not be one for a leak. Oh, and the three times we visited your shop that no one was there during normal advertised business hours....I have picture of it all locked up and the door clearly states the business hours, no note, etc...oops no one was there. You secretary couldn't tell the difference a bolt and toilet seat. Seems like you're having trouble as well, engine oil is usually black....not clear the closest would be power steering fluid, ahh, but we are not talking about that are we? Wrong on this statement as well "At that time the secretary offered to service" she never said anything because I asked her to close her ignorant mouth. The mechanic offered the service, you were not there! Your talking out your forth point of contact, if you do not understand that terminology ask a veteran someone who did something useful with their life! read more

I was having an issue with my truck this morning so I called and they had the tech Tony give me a call back. He was very knowledgeable and was able to give me advice as to what could be the problem with a reasonable quote on the prices of labor. I changed the part on my vehicle and it worked! I was very surprised that Tony took the time out of his busy work schedule to call me and help me. This company is really out to help their customers rather than to empty their wallets. They try to take advantage of Senior Citizens. I took my SUV in because it would not shift into overdrive. They said I needed a couple of new parts which I said to put in. When I left I had the same problem. John the GM at Vistoso Automotive said that was my first mistake taking it there. He said they used to use them until they had too many failures and they would not stand behind their warranty. So whatever you do don't go there as Tony will rip you off. read more

unlike the review before this one..... never offered towning, was told would have a call about condition and price by days end had to call next myself was told tony the only one could answer cost told me under 100.00 then never called to tell me nope over 400.00 big suprise when i got there. what are you to do then tell them to put it back the way it was. was told 3 days at least only to get call next day at 4 to come get car by 5 or 20.00 charge to store. what the heck is that when you all said just hours ago 3 days. then got there big suprise on the bill, took over 25 minutes to find keys that were left in car parked in front of shop whloe time. car runs but ignation stitch not working right raido put back in upside down. cost me another 145.00 to take to another to fix what they did. why not take it back tried was told it was put back correctly but they would look at it when they could if bring it in for a charge of 75.00 per hour. sad part only after all said and done found three folks said tony was rude, arrogant and wish they knew i did that would have given me a better shop to go to. read more
