I also have to say Kinney was down a man and was still able to complete the job on the same day.

Like many others, my garage is attached to my home and when the door is stuck open, I am very reluctant to leave while my home is vulnerable, so expedient service is a must. Within a couple of hours of my call to A-1, a service technician arrived at my home, the repair went quickly, and the cost was much less than expected. The technician even identified and repaired a couple of issues that had not as yet presented any problems. I have the first name to put on my list of the people to call when I am in need of their services, A-1 Door. I won't consider calling anyone else.

We bought our home in 2004 when it was built. The original garage door spring broke in June 2009 - roughly 5 years. We've been here for 14 years now. When the spring broke this time, I checked my notes and found that A-1 Door had replaced it then. I realized that it had been 9 long years on the new spring, instead of 5. Guess who I called. Right. When I called Monday morning, they said they could send someone out the same day. Ron arrived before too long, got us fixed up and working again. He has been doing these garage doors for 30 years and knew his stuff. He even checked out the other garage door as well. Now Ron did warn me that we may have to get some parts, or the unit, replaced after 15 years or more. He simply told me - didn't try to "up sell me". Guess who I may call then. Right. Maybe you should consider calling them to check out or fix your garage door. Oh, they also have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, if that's important to you.

Have been Greenway client for 20 years until today. Have maintenance plan. Tech (oops sales rep…read moremasquerading) was here over two hours for 3 systems. Comes downstairs and presents me with a laundry list of what's not right even possible carbon monoxide escaping into the attic (we have carbon monoxide detectors all over the house) and by state law (law doesn't exist) he was required to turn off gas to all 3 furnaces. Mentioned I had a warranty and second opinion would be forthcoming. I asked tech to turn gas back on to units. He couldn't because of the law. The supervisor called me and said he'd send tech back out to check for carbon monoxide. Didn't hear back and called the number answered Brown H &A part of the Greenway. Dispatcher sent tech back out checked for carbon monoxide (none) and turned gas back on and never mentioned the FAKE state law he'd invoked without even checking for the carbon monoxide. Maintenance contact appears to be a way in the door to sell products and services not needed. It appears the Greenway was bought out and merged into a conglomerate of HVAC companies. Unfortunately I'm still on their maintenance, faster service calls and a 20% discount. I'm not sure I can afford to be a preferred client.

I scheduled my annual heating unit check-up since I'm on the company's discount plan…read more Last year, Mr. Greenway replaced the heat exchanger and cleaned the blower motor. This year, the technician showed up with his supervisor, completed the check-up, and then told me my blower motor needed cleaning again ($471) and that I needed to replace the inducer motor ($1,239) -- a total of over $1,700. While they were working, I checked other customer reviews and began questioning their conclusion. They didn't try to explain or justify the recommendations; instead, they gave me a look that made me feel like they'd been caught red-handed. I then got a second opinion from a reputable company (without mentioning that Mr. Greenway had already inspected it last year). That company confirmed everything was fine -- the system was clean and operational. I'm disappointed, but not surprised, because I've caught Choates doing similar things to its customers before. For reference, a brand-new inducer motor costs under $200 and takes about 20-30 minutes to install. My blower motor was already cleaned last year. In my opinion: don't get ripped off--if something sounds suspicious, get a second opinion. To top it off, this morning I received a text saying Mr. Greenway would be "glad to do the annual check-up"... even though they just did it. **Signs a Company May Be Dishonest or Pressuring Technicians to Upsell** - Repeated or unnecessary repairs - Recommending the same service within an unusually short time frame (e.g., cleaning a part that was cleaned last year). - High markups without explanation - Charging several times the fair market price for a part or service, without clear labor or cost breakdown. - Urgency without justification - Pressuring you to approve repairs "right now" without giving time for a second opinion. - Lack of reasoning or transparency - Avoiding direct answers when you ask "why" or "how" a part is failing. - - Suspicious body language - Looking nervous, defensive, or avoiding eye contact when challenged. - Inconsistent communication - Offering or promoting services that were already completed, showing poor record-keeping or deliberate confusion. - Pattern in reviews - Multiple online reviews mentioning aggressive upselling or questionable diagnoses. Takeaway: When a repair estimate feels off, trust your instincts. Ask for a clear explanation, get it in writing, and seek a second opinion. Reputable companies value trust over margin padding -- questionable ones rely on confusion and pressure.
