This used to be a great place, but in the past few years, the owners have been indoctrinated by the third-wave "feminism" crowd, and they've become disgustingly unprofessional (putting it VERY mildly) as a result. They've been incorporating their personal, extremist identity politics into their day-to-day operations by only hiring people who share their irrational, self-serving, self-righteous, criminal, alt-left bigotry, the owners AND their employees have been cyberstalking, harassing, threatening, and doxing their customers, and, true to SJW form, these sniveling, cowardly, incompetent, limp-wristed, bandana wearing, molotov cocktail-chucking, self-hating, white knight, beta-soy-|3itch boys have been extremely belligerent, sometimes even extremely violent (even stooping so low as committing completely unprovoked and completely unjustified felony assault) to any customers they hear rumors about being unsympathetic to their pretentious, obnoxious, masturbatory, personal pet causes. If you're a fan of Brie Larson, then you'll LOVE this tµrd factory. But If you don't have an electric blue mohawk, neon pink lensless glasses, a curly handlebar mustache, and a septum ring, then you enter the non-stop, autistic, social justice circle jerk that is Antifa City Comics at your own risk. One of the things I loved best of this shop was the guy who worked here the day I came. He was friendly, and willing to talk about nerdy related things. They had a plethora of manga, graphic novels, shirts, and import toys. While normally that's not what I go for when it comes to comic shops (I collect golden age comics...modern comics aren't really my thing) I do have a soft spot for two things: Sailor Moon Shops that have a Sailor Moon arcade game set up in them. I WILL HAPPILY WASTE MILLIONS OF QUARTERS PLAYING THAT GAME. I have never in my 20 some years of worshipping Sailor Moon seen a real honest to God arcade game that I didn't possibly illegally download and/or play online. They imported this beauty from Japan. I cried real manly tears of joy because SAILOR MOON ARCADE GAME. I bought a sentai toy (the Japanese version of Power Rangers) from here. I wish this shop was closer to me. I went to this store for the first time last week, and I was extremely underwhelmed from the second I stepped foot in there. I was almost knocked back by a stench that I can only describe as athlete's foot and morning stank breath being lazily masked with generic, dollar store body spray. It was all down hill from that moment forward. This creepy, fat, sweaty, lisping, mouth-breathing, mincing, mongoloid manbaby who works there was following me around with both of his disturbingly fidgety hands suspiciously deep in both pockets, and he kept glaring at me the entire time with a psychot!c, bug-eyed sneering expression that evoked fears of a "struggle snuggle" dungeon in the store basement. I overheard one of the film school drop-outs behind the counter call mongo "Deryl". After a few minutes of "Deryl's" "stealth" rubbernecking, I finally got a clear path to the exit and ran like my life depended on it, because that's what it felt like. I still have nightmares from the PTSD this store gave me. read more

I was a previous subscriber of 4 years, but changed to a different store once we got fed up with our pull list being messed up consistently and the general stench of the store. I decided to give it second chance when our local store closed. I arrived at 4:00 on Wednesday, new comic book day. When I commented on the fact that multiple very popular books appeared to be sold out only hours after hitting the shelves, the the sweaty pig who owns the place told me that the books are in fact in the store, but just not restocked, so if I came back another time, they "might be back on the shelves". To me, if I have to make multiple trips to the same comic book store to get books that are actually there, it's not worth my time. Per the pig owner, "that's the way it is in a store this size." If you're from out of town or just randomly stopping in, you might like this place, but if you're looking for a store with an owner who at least pretends he's interested in your business, look elsewhere. read more

Very cute shop with a bunch of comics and collectibles. The place has style. My one gripe though is the staff don't seem to be the friendliest people. No doubt they seem to have a love for comics/manga and the culture surrounding it but I didn't feel very welcomed--which is very odd for a relatively niche interest in a larger market--It would do well to engage more with potential customers. A buddy of mine told me about his experience here and he said he called in about a specific new release but the person on the other end told him they didn't have it; he made a trip over there the same day and there were a ton of that same new release just on the shelf! But in the end, if you're wondering if you should check this place out, you really should. It's worth checking out and I for one am excited about returning. Great stuff! read more

Very rude, incompetent, and obnoxious staff. Tried to special order items from them multiple times with VERY specific instructions. When I returned on the date they specified the item would be available, they told me they had never ordered the item, and then slandered me by blaming me for their stupidity by telling me they never ordered the item because my instructions were "not specific enough", which was obviously a complete, bold-faced lie on THEIR part. The store is extremely overpriced besides, and the fat, homely, 20-something employees have the "personalities" of spoiled, art school dropouts who still live with their parents, but who can't understand why they're too poor to not live with their parents. Just a cringey, gross, and extremely toxic dumpster fire for a comic book store all around. read more

I used to frequent this store but after free comic book day, I'm not sure I want to. I went in to buy some comics. First, I had to tell the "bouncer" that I plan on buying. Then when the cashier rings up $50 worth of comics, I asked if I could get a free comic. She said that I had to wait in line. Even though I was a paying customer. This was absurd. Every other comic store has free comics there to give you. And I only wanted one. So I had to wait 20 minutes in a separate line for the comic I wanted. They tried to make it organized but the whole ordeal turned out to be frustrating. I'll take my business to Brave New Worlds, especially on free comic book day. read more

Not as good as Locust moon was. They used to be super awesome, i remember when they were called showcase comics, nostalgia central! They used to have a good selection and used to have a cool bad movie night. However, its very very uncomfortable, i decided not to buy something today because this is literally the 8th time i have witnessed the owner watching me and my friends like we would steal something, with a whole lot of other people in the store too. Coming from NYC, I have to say that Philly doesn't really have a store that can rival Forbidden Planet on Broadway. That said, Atomic City Comics is a nice place with an equally nice vibe and a very pleasant, friendly staff, better than the NYU crowd that works for Forbidden Planet. You'll get all the latest releases with back issues available, book collections, t-shirts, some models (not the live but the plastic kind, unfortunately). Even if I don't buy something, I always come out feeling that the world is a kinder and gentler place because of stores like this. read more

This place is a dump. Can't find anything. The clerks just sit there and stare at their iphone. Merch is WAAAYYYY overpriced. I just went in to check prices on bags and boards. I tried to look at back issues. They had so much JUNK laying around in no order. As others have stated, this place looks like a tumblr NEET junkyard. I found comics laying in various places. This is the best place around South Street (hey, maybe the only place!) that sells a good range of comic books and related material. I was tempted to take off one star because they really don't sell film/fantasy/sci-fi magazines, but I guess that's not what their aim is. read more

I love their manga, anime section. Live close by, so I don't know if there's any other comic store like it, but it's charming and the folks in there are friendly, though (gasp!) I don't speak to them much at all! read more
