To be honest, dear reader, I am not an avid comic book reader! While I do enjoy the superhero…read moremovies that come along each year, and I do casually read certain runs, or listen to explanations of certain comics via Comics Explained, I do not keep up with this medium as consistently as I do with Video Games. The only run that I have kept up with on a consistent basis is the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, both the Archie run (slightly before Ian Flynn would take over) and the IDW run as I am a huge fan of Sonic. Due to this, I do like to visit a comic book store every once-in-a-while, and this is my #1 spot! I found out about this nice little spot back in 2006 or 2007 as after learning about the Archie run via the Sonic Mega Collection, I wanted to start reading these comics. I noticed this place from time to time in my family's travels to Bellflower and asked my Mother to take me one day. I stopped going for a long time, not because of any specific negative reason, but just because they stopped selling the Sonic run. Since Sonic is the only comic book that I read, I had no reason to return. I did find out about places like Pulp Fiction, but I found that the customer service was consistently not up to par and eventually stopped going. Last year, during Free Comic Book Day, I wanted to stop by a Comic Book Store in order to pick up some of the free comic books. I first went to Amazing Comics & Cards, but found the selection to be very limited and a similar problem of the customer service being poor. I went here after so long to see if they were participating in Free Comic Book Day, and luckily enough, they were! Going in, it is still majorly organized as I remember way back when, but just now with more Graphic Novels and Manga. One thing that I can always say is the best about this place is the customer service. When I went to Free Comic Book Day, they gave people a list of what was available and crossed out any that were not available, they allowed an individual to get way more comics than the previous store I went to (like 5 comics in comparison to 2 or 3), and when I was conflicted on which comic to get, they just allowed me to have both. Not only this, the main guy at the cash register, I never got his name, but is an older white gentleman that usually wears a cap, is always nice and helpful. I don't remember him from years ago, but immediately from our first interaction, he has the best personality. Easy to talk to and start up a conversation, and leaves a definite positive impression after stepping out of the store. And this isn't just one interaction, I had been going from time to time in 2025, and the attitude was always solid. They never seem to run out of the comics that I am looking for and just generally seem to be great spot hidden away in the Bellflower area. In all, from what I remember back in the mid-to-late 2000s and recently, I give them 5 stars. A great place for comic readers and worthy of being one of my favorite spots to stop by when I am in the mood of purchasing a comic.

No snarky looks, eye rolls or cold shoulders here. The barrier for entry to reading comics is already intimidating as is what with all the crazy intertwining, interconnecting continuities and universes, so Ryan and the crew understand the importance of facilitating a welcoming community right from when you step through the door. Everyone here will jump at the chance to talk comics and throw out their recommendations regardless if it's your first time or a regular. P.S. all the poor reviews from nearly a decade ago and beyond are from before ownership changed hands. None of them are indicative of the amazing experience you'll have coming into the shop today.

That place felt massive. This location does feel a little smaller, but it's still massive. Plenty of vendors and variety, some shady vendors that will overcharge too much or just be plain rude, but overall it's a great experience as you will find very niche and interesting/weird stuff. You will also find vendors selling things for great prices. Make sure to bring cash and most vendors will give you a discount. The only downside is even with the ridiculously large parking area, it STILL fills up every single day. It's literally always busy, so prepare to walk a lot. Even my back issues were heavily discounted and I ended up paying somewhere around $0.50 a book! I left with a huge stack! The employees were all friendly, and knowledgeable, and in something I like seeing in shops like this, seemed to lean on each other to compensate for questions they didn't have answers to. But a while back they had a HUGE selection of IDW Transformers back issues. I went crazy and got a bunch of them whenever I stopped by to pick up the current Skybound run. All the staff is super nice and genuinely super kind! I've had no bad experiences here and they're all super knowledgeable about the things I'm interested in buying. They have the latest ongoing issues from Marvel and DC, plenty of trade collections and graphic novels for all ages, and an independent comic creator display. The walls are lined with funko pops of real people as well as fictional characters, there are t-shirts, action figures and toys, and just generally cool geeky things to buy. The shop is bright and clean, well designed for browsing with plenty of space to move around eye catching displays, and the assistant was very friendly - the whole vibe makes you want to come back and support them, which I hope you will do!

If you still read printed media or would like second hand books, this may be the place to go to. The only other Book Off I've been to that is inside a mall is I believe the Del Amo Fashion Mall. This one is a bit more organized at the very least. The biggest W, I've ever gotten were rare, affordable visual novel series items from the one in Riverside, but for the anime section for here, it's not the best. There are some rare goods, like a Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun figure, but the prices are a bit atrocious. For example, an FGO Abigail Williams prize figure that goes for around $30, NO SHIPPING COST, went for $80. It's not even that rare or old of a figure, it just came out around a year ago. This is also my issue with the Anime Lab one in Little Tokyo. As well, as the anime section itself not being the most organized, aka the miscellaneous section and things on the shelves. Can never be my GOAT, Eco Town. Maybe there are gems there, but you definitely need to research prices, know what you want and how rare an item is, etc. The workers were busy helping customers and doing exchanges, so I didn't really get a chance to interact with them.
