I decided to come here for my first Lorcana Set Champions. Since it was my first time coming here and first tournament. I called the day before to confirm the process. Their IG post stated it started at 11am, so the person on the phone told me to come an hour early for sign ups, which would be 10am. So the day came when the tournament started. Got there at 9:50am to make sure I get a spot since it was first come first serve, and the place was closed and no one was there. Waited until 10:20 and nothing. I was the only one there. Checked on google for store hours and they said they open at 12pm every day. So I'm confused why I was told to come at 10. If the event starts at 11. But store opens at 12. This definitely put a bad taste on my first experience and if I wanted to support this LCS. read more

Bought a Pokemon Celebrations Collection Box from Finch and Sparrow and opened it at home to find it had been resealed. Now Finch and Sparrow will claim the box was not resealed, here are several significant indicators to prove it was resealed: 1. Two different types of hot glue were used in the sealing of the box. 2. Celebrations packs flaps were not sealed down. 3. One pack of Battle Styles did not have an energy card in it. 4. One pack of Celebrations had 3 of the same Lugia in it. All of the above mentioned aspects are definite indicators that the box had been resealed. Again, Finch and Sparrow denies this, so they will no longer be seeing me or anyone in my card collecting community. I'm glad it only cost me $180 to learn this lesson, as I usually spend much more. If you're looking to submit cards for grading, steer clear of Finch & Sparrow. I submitted cards for CGC grading at Finch & Sparrow with their Market2Mint kiosk on April 26, then handed them over to an employee to package them up as required. Upon not hearing back on the submission by July 6, I reached out to both Finch & Sparrow and Market2Mint about this. Market2Mint informed me that they never received my submission. During this process, I heard that there were 4 other packages with Finch & Sparrow that did not turn up at Market2Mint. When I asked Finch & Sparrow for a tracking number, they informed me that they do NOT keep tracking numbers for Market2Mint submissions. Despite being the ones who shipped the package to Market2Mint in the first place, they said all updates regarding shipment, tracking, and claims had to go through Market2Mint. In others words, it was not their responsibility. They directed me away from them at that point and offered no further aid. Market2Mint contacted Finch & Sparrow for tracking updates and reviewed available camera footage, and no avenues have recovered my package as of July 28. This has been a devastating and disappointing experience, and the fact that they do not keep tracking numbers for submissions is purely negligent. We're talking about cards that can be worth hundreds to thousands of dollars when graded. It seems some people have submitted through Finch & Sparrow with no issue, but they have proven that their handling and organization for this process is untrustworthy and unreliable. read more

Specializing in Magic the Gathering and other card games, Finch and Sparrow Games (owners retained the name from a non-gaming previous business in the same building) is a large, successful game store, founded in 2018. My daughter needed to scratch her Pokemon card collecting itch while she was visiting, so the family drove out to Signal Hill to pick up a particular card she wanted. It was an enjoyable experience. Finch and Sparrow has a very accurate and timely on-line presence, allowing gamers and collectors to identify, reserve, and purchase particular cards. My daughter called them about a particular card, wanting to make sure it was in stock before making the trip. The phone was answered quickly, and she was told that the website was accurate and that they would pull the card for her to pick up at her convenience. Thus we made that trip that night. It is located in the Signal Hill Business Park, in an industrial park setting, more fit for retail stores selling home improvement materials or growing companies needing office/warehouse space. But because of this, there is plentiful parking especially during after-hours when the other nearby tenants are closed. It also means a large amount of space, which Finch and Sparrow uses well: having large set of gaming tables on the main floor and a private gaming room for more private events. They have computers set-up as kiosks for folks to browse their warehouse inventory digitally as well. Magic and Pokemon seemed to be the two card games that they specialize in, and the employee stated they do buy product for these two games from the public. With a name and time of order, my daughter was able to get her particular card. She knew how much the card was being sold at a reputable on-line dealer, so asked if they would price match. The shop didn't reach all the way to that price, but worked with her, which is all that she wanted. She bought the card. Meanwhile, I was looking through the bargain rack of individual Pokemon cards, ranging in price from $1 to $5 (based on the color of the sleeve). Got four full-art cards, which is cheaper than getting a retail booster pack (though you miss the thrill of opening a new pack though). They do sell various packs and bundles, all stored behind the counter since they are worth quite a bit of money. It's neat how this business model operates and it's clear that the owners are passionate about their business, making it a priority to serve the large card gaming community who need a place like this to gather and enjoy their passion. And if at the same time, they can help collectors pursue their hobby while making a living, it's a really good thing. read more

Loads of great cards and a great place to play with friends! Came here recently and was able to find pokemon cards I had been hunting for.

Absolutely love this place. My favorite part is the kiosk system -- you can easily search for specific cards, check what they have in inventory, or even browse what's available on the west side. The whole process is super smooth. I picked the cards I wanted, submitted everything through the kiosk, waited just a few minutes, and they called my name when my order was ready. I was here for a pre-release and found both the community and the staff were super friendly. My pre-release kit was about $5 cheaper than most other stores I checked. And their allotment of kits must be generous because they were holding events twice a day on Friday, Saturday , and Sunday for the pre-release. Their selection of singles is great and I was able to finish up my deck without too much of an issue. I can't be too upset at going 0 and 3 because I pulled the shockland I wanted. read more

Recently, I've fallen into the hole of Pokémon cards. An addiction I didn't want to revisit but here we are. So naturally, I've been out of the game so long I wanted to check out the many card shops around town. I came across Finch and Sparrow Games. When my boyfriend and I entered the shop, I believe there was a pre release of Spider-Man magic cards. So there were a lot of people. We weren't greeted... kinda stood there awkwardly for a few minutes then decided to roam around. Decided to approach the guy working. Asked him if he had any Pokémon cards. Gave me a few binders to flip through. I believed many cards were over priced. I noticed they had bargain bin sorted by color. Each color had a different cost. I grabbed a few cards. I wanted to ask questions but kinda felt out of place. Walked out with a few cards but definitely didn't have a feeling of wanting to return. read more

I'm honestly disappointed that I have to leave this review, but it needs to be said. The customer service at Finch and Sparrow Games has been consistently poor, especially from one of the female employees whose name I didn't catch--mainly because I didn't want to waste any more time talking to her. Her attitude was dismissive and unwelcoming, making the entire experience uncomfortable. This isn't the first time I've had a negative interaction here. I actually stopped coming to this shop a while ago because of similar encounters with the same employee. Today reminded me exactly why I left in the first place and why I won't be coming back. A game store should be a place where people feel respected and excited to return--not somewhere you walk out of regretting your visit. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I always try to support local businesses, but I've been here a handful of times and each time has been negative. I like how they've created a space for the community to gather, but that's about it. The employees aren't kind or helpful, the layout of the store is awkward, and honestly it doesn't smell the best inside. My main complaint though is their overpricing and lack of selection. I understand that keeping a physical store open is difficult with rent and operating costs being so high nowadays, but the prices on their products are outrageous. read more

Friendly and accommodating! This is one of the fewer card game stores that is well organized and clean. When you walk in.. it's spotless and have that new card smell haha. I play magic the gathering and I trade in cards here quite often for credits. They don't scammed you and will give you a decent price for your cards. Most of the workers here know what they're doing and again very helpful if you ever have any questions. They have all sort of collections from modern to classic cards. Their damage bins are hidden gems for all those budget players like me. They don't discriminate either and will take their time to help you. Overall, my go-to spot to be a MTG nerd :) read more

In a city where there are few card shops left at all, Finch and Sparrow definitely stands out. Came here on a random weekday looking to sell some old Pokemon cards we had laying around the house. We were offered a very fair deal based on market prices! What I appreciated was that they actually took the time to look through them all to appraise market value and give us a fair price for everything on a per card basis--not just buying from us in bulk based on rarity which is an easy way some shops skim off people selling cards. Staff were super friendly and the inside of the store feels really nicely touched up. Parking is easy and the location is not hard to get to since it's a bit more quiet in a business park area. Would definitely be back here in the future for TCG needs...also, the music playing in the store was great :) read more

This is one of the better go to LGS' is the area. The play area is large enough for 64 players and the card selection is amazing. The bulk bins get updated daily so you always have a chance to find treasure. The staff is knowledgeable about most games from Pokemon to Riftbound to Magic the gathering. And the buy list is pretty decent offering a good amount of value for most cards from vintage to graded. read more
