Food is amazing, well thought out and delicious. We had Chowder and Kansas Toast. Both were flavorful and fresh.

First time at this restaurant, but I have been to Anacortes before never knew that this jewel was even here. Driving in from Harbor Oaks it was later in the evening and I was unsure how late they would take seating us for dinner. My heart was overjoyed, knowing that we could still get in for dinner and the service was excellent. We were never rushed through any of our meals. Everything came out Divine and with each item and every bite it was like heaven. If you're ever up here, waiting for a ferry, taking your boat out on the water or traveling on your way back home I definitely recommend stopping at this restaurant and having dinner. We are big Anacortes fans. Whether you are staying in this delightful, art-filled, and nautical city or headed out to the islands, this restaurant is exactly where you should eat. We've been here twice now and could go every week. Their clam chowder, which is filled with fresh clams and bacon and served with focaccia, is perhaps the best you will ever have. We come here for this. It is stunning. With a crisp white wine, you will not find a better sunny day lunch. My child loves the grilled burger and fries. The valley burger was perfectly cooked tonight as well. Crisp salty fries were perfect. We always enjoy the French Onion soup, but didn't get it tonight. We did have the squid karrage with the squid ink aioli which were hot, sweet and tender. Some bites were a bit salty, still amazing though and one of my favorites. Kathryn was our server and she couldn't have been more welcoming or descriptive of the food, she was amazing! The bartender also made a mean dirty gin martini and was friendly as well. We got the calamari to start and it was so delicious and different than we've had! Very lightly battered, so tender and that squid ink sauce was so unique and delicious! My husband had the ribeye and he literally got goosebumps when he tried it. So tender and flavorful, it was amazing! I had the tombo ahi okonomiyaki which was delicious seared tuna, huge shrimp over a Japanese pancake which reminded me of egg foo young. This was so delicious, fresh and well constructed. Incredible place with the best ambiance open kitchen... first time there went for my birthday. We started out with the delicious bread toasted homemade by them and then had the scotch egg. It was so delicious and the slaw that's underneath it was scrumptious. I ordered the paella and it was fabulous. My son ordered the duck and it was gorgeous. The best duck he ever had. We also had a side of potatoes that were so delicious and the ketchup is homemade. I never tasted any ketchup as delicious as that ! fantastic service they made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant very customer service oriented so pleasant. The truffle fries were perfect. They make their own curry ketchup that is perfect with the fries. Their toast plates are definitely worth trying. The papas bravas were the icing on the cake. So good. We made early reservations the day before and were seated as they opened. We had peeked at the menu and definitely wanted to try this restaurant that locally sourced as much as possible before we left Anacortes. Service, provided by Kate, was very friendly and prompt. She didn't steer us wrong at all, was knowledgeable not just about the menu but about the food prep and drinks, and made sure we were doing well. Ask for her if you can, she's great. We started with a bookhouse fizz and the no thanks along with the patatas a la brava. I was torn between the moules frites and the nerka king for dinner. Sharon was also looking at the moules frites as well as the short ribs. Every large plate looked like a win. We decided on the nerka king (seared medium rare) and the short ribs. I instantly like any restaurant that asks me how well done I like my salmon. The patatas were a more generous portion than we thought for a traditional tapas dish - just so you know. That said, they were excellent! The house made mozzarella was the perfect accompaniment to the potatoes. The smoky sauces were very flavorful (we suggest mixing them). OMG the short ribs. Wow. They were fantastic. So tender. So flavorful. The salmon, served skin up, was medium rare as ordered - tender pink in the middle. The salmon sausage was exceptionally good and unexpected - very savory (fennel, maybe?). Everything was so great, we had to stop ourselves from overeating. Then Kate brought the dessert menu... Chocolate tahini ice cream?!? I know, sounds odd, but I've had chocolate tahini brownies and stand by the combination. We decided to split a cannoli dessert and call it good. And they were. If you're anywhere near Anacortes, do yourself a favor and make reservations! read more

The food here is above average and hard to find this level of quality elsewhere in Anacortes. The take on clam chowder is beautiful, the clams are top notch and the broth is rich but restrained. The duck breast salad is so lightly dressed that it is barely noticeable and lets the ingredients shine through. I would order a plate full of the sautéed garlic scapes alone if I could. They really nailed every aspect of our time with them and have created a wonderful place to chill. For Drinks The palomino is refreshing and tart while not being too booze forward. The whiskey fizz drink with the egg white was absolutely my favorite though. On to the main reason for coming here! The grub! The clam chowder is seriously the best you'll ever have. Another divine dining experience at A'Town. Down to earth, top notch service without a hint of pretentiousness. The vibe is cozy, bustling and joyful. A restaurant full of customers who are so happy with their food is a nice place to be! I'm only in town for a couple of days so I had to strategize to ensure I got things I'm already in love with AND try something new. I decided to order two "small plates" to eat at the restaurant and order their incredible clam chowder to go for a midnight snack. Clam chowder before bed? Will that mess with my dreams? I'm willing to roll the dice and see what happens. * I need the French Onion Soup EVERY time. The ratio of broth to onions to crostini to cheese was perfect and each element was delicious on its own. However....there are few pleasures in life like having perfect bites all the way to the bottom of the bowl...I wasn't choking on too much cheese or parched because the crostini sucked up all the broth, as has happened at other establishments. This is PERFECTLY balanced and seasoned bowl of French Onion soup. I ate every last bit of it! *I like to try something new every time I come, and the Patatas a la Brava did not disappoint! The portion was huge but the flavors and textures were so interesting and delicious, I did my best but only ate about 25%. And another 25% when I got back to my hotel. God, the potatoes were still crispy and the seasoning is spicy and flavorful!! You need to try this humble russet potato dish, with creative spices and some brilliant sauce work, my friends. I was most surprised by the sweet contrast of the orange marmalade. The light sweetness cut through some of the spice in a way that was surprising and enjoyable! The food is always fresh, unique, and although a little on the pricey side, you can almost never go wrong with anything on their menu. Tonight, we had the French onion soup, goat cheese and crackers, bison burger, fries, buttermilk vanilla ice cream and the chocolate mouse tart. All really good. Our recent visit had amazing service. We went here often many years ago when it was new. The food is still fresh, which is still huge points in the positive. The atmosphere has not changed and very nice. The service is excellent as always. But, the food is not as tasty as it used to be, and the menu selections have severely shrunk. What happened to the Scotch Egg??? We loved that. I recommend sticking to the charcuterie selections and drinks. Burgers are over salted, over cooked, dry, and not much flavor....like would it kill them to put on some sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle perhaps? I tried the pork belly open sandwich, expecting to enjoy pork belly, but was so smothered in spicy kimchi where that was all you tasted and the majority of the dish.... pretty awful although I do like a small amount kimchi on the side. If we return again, might try the clam chowder. But will skip the burger and sandwich selections for now. read more

This is a really a 3 1/2 star rating that could've been a four and 1/2. There was so much right, but two serious misses. So giving credit for what appears to be a good trajectory, and we'll be back to see how they've improved, First the good: they nailed my cocktail- the A1, which is their version of an old fashioned. Really terrific. Next up - the beet salad. Well balanced and interesting flavors. I had the Scottish Egg, which was interesting in the best way - like a crusted sausage meatball with a hen egg center on top of a tossed salad with a mustard vinaigrette. It totally worked, and our expectations for the main courses were set quite high. The entrees were the big letdown. The paella had wonderful flavors and great chicken, sausage, and shrimp and muscles. But SO MUCH SALT!! It overwhelmed what looked to be a nicely balanced dish. The pork belly over grits was the kind of menu item that calls to you. I answered the call and was disappointed. The pork belly was sliced super thin - the thickness of center cut bacon. They cooked it in such high heat the fat and pork were dry. And like the paella - SO MUCH SALT! The dish could've been saved if they cut the belly like it is supposed to be - thick with a nice char in the fat but still soft under the crust and with the pork moist and tender, not dry like diner-fried bacon. I like my dishes on the flavorful side so a bit of salt never bothers but these dishes were much too salty - they need to be dialed back considerably. And both cooked at much too high temps rather than slower cooked over med-hi heat (we had a good view of the kitchen and the temp settings on the stove were too high for these kinds of dishes), which would have kept the pork tender. Nod to the service which was professional and friendly and not overdone. Dial back the salt all around, turn down the burner, and cut the pork belly properly and let it get tender and not tough, and this would have been a winner. We'll be back and optimistic. read more

Came here per recommendation of the Airbnb host we were staying with for my birthday dinner, and I might even say this was my favorite meal of the entire trip! We ordered a couple of non-alcoholic drinks (I got "The No Thanks" and it was delicious), shared an order of paella and the Duck Duck Toast, and got a little birthday treat in the form of chocolate cake for dessert! Everything tasted delicious and we were very satisfyingly full by the end of the night. The outdoor seating space was so comfortable - even on a cold night, the heaters kept us perfectly cozy, and the covers kept us safe from the wind. The service was so wonderful and friendly, and Crystal may be one of our favorite servers ever! Hope to come back again someday. read more
