On another night ,we had a great dinner here as well. My daughter and I tried the fondue. It was our first experience with fondue. Overall their food is delicious, and their menu is not overwhelming with options ... just enough for a small restaurant but still diverse. I wasn't impressed with their Charcuterie or truffle parmesan fries ( You can't even taste a hint of truffle! The parmesan cheese overpowers any truffle flavor, and the fries are served with garlic aioli, which I don't comprehend. Why not serve the fries with truffle aioli? I made this suggestion to one of the waitresses). Their ribeye steak is delicious and cooked perfectly, though. Ambience is spot on, and they have a decent wine list. Just don't ask for recommendations for wine pairings. I didn't get the feeling that the servers are trained to understand pairing the wines they offer with their menu items. read more

Anacortes is a town of about 16,000 spread out on the edge of the San Juan islands. The dining crowd here trends toward casual, grab a bite on the way back from the marina, not fancy, fast and inexpensive if possible. As a former SF Bay area resident, the lack of unique eating spots has frustrated me for the past four years. Finally, A Town Bistro has ended my search for an interesting menu at affordable prices. The place is small but I recently attended a group luncheon of 16 and the restaurant accommodated us by rearranging tables and providing separate (!) checks. The food was delicious and presented with style, reminding me of similar places I have visited in the French countryside. I have found my new happy eating place in Anacortes. read more

Truly a 'foodies paradise', which is obvious the minute you walk in and see the open kitchen concept that takes up quite a bit of the floor plan... sit at the bar and watch your fresh, locally sourced food being prepared while checking out the impressive drink selection which always includes some unique, rare stuff and tasty, creative cocktails... professional, friendly service, lively atmosphere with attention to detail on everything served... bravo! read more

Back in July 6 I made a reservation for tonight (Sept 11) for a table of 4 at 7:15pm through their website (via OpenTable). I was very much looking forward to dinner this evening. Yesterday I even received the "let them know you're coming" confirmation email to confirm my reservation - which I eagerly did. Imagine my surprise when I get to the restaurant tonight and there is a handwritten sign on their door saying "Closed Friday and Saturday for a private event". How could they be closed after I was able to make a reservation months ago AND confirm it just yesterday? Also, there was no private event happening - the doors were closed and no one was inside. I'm now left with nothing on a Friday night. (More on that in the PS). I decide to call and at least let them know that I had a reservation and can't imagine why they took my reservation. I fully expected to be leaving a voicemail but to my surprise a child answered the phone. Confused, I asked if this was Oystertale and the voice said "Yes"; figuring that perhaps this was just a young-sounding person I went ahead and explained my situation. In the middle of my explanation someone else came on the line who sounded like an adult woman, and I could hear the child trying to explain what was happening in the background, and I thought "What's happening here?" I started all over and re-explained my situation to the woman on the phone. Did she apologize? No. Not once during the entire conversation. Instead, the first things she said was "Did you make the reservation on our site or something else?" I replied "Through your website" getting annoyed that there wasn't an acknowledgment of the predicament I was in. Then she said "Well, we're trying to use Square instead of OpenTable." And I said "Clicking on the reservation button on your website took me to OpenTable to make the reservation, and I confirmed it yesterday. Just wanted to let you know this." There was silence on the other end. Literally no reply for seconds. At that point I was more than a little annoyed, so I left my name and phone number and said "thought you should know in case there are others like myself" and hung up. Look, maybe I can understand if the reservation system was on the blink, but this is a $50 - $100 a table place! How could it have gotten so bad to never have been notified by a "top tier" restaurant. Second, there was never an apology or acknowledgement of the terrible situation that left me in. Third, why was I talking to a kid on the phone?? And lastly, how many other people were in my situation? With this kind of experience it's hard to trust OysterTale. I'd expect a place of this caliber to have their reservation system rock solid and to apologize when speaking to a patron live on the phone. PS. We went upstairs to DownRiggers and they were graciously able to seat us in the bar area (on a Friday night!) and it was delicious and we ended up having a lovely evening. Thank you DownRiggers! Yes, I left them a great review. PPS.
