We have already requested that the State investigate for this former employer for what I believe was a wrongful termination. After my family member had been stuck by a car, He promptly provided a doctor's note regarding medical restrictions. Despite this, he continued to comply with every onboarding requirement they gave him. At the employer's request, he completed multiple tuberculosis (TB) tests over approximately two weeks. In total, he made four separate trips for TB testing, each requiring approximately a 48-mile drive plus additional travel to return home. He also made repeated trips for onboarding, paperwork, and mandatory training. Throughout this process, he remained in contact with the employer and was never clearly informed of a required work schedule or specific reporting time. The voicemail they later relied on to terminate me does not state any date or time that I was expected to report to work. Instead, the voicemail states that they wanted to discuss and establish a "firm start date." The day after they completed the onboarding process, he received a call asking why he was not at work and was told they had left him a voicemail saying when he was supposed to be there. However, the voicemail contains no such instruction. He believes he was terminated based on information that is contradicted by the employer's own voicemail and despite his good-faith efforts to comply with every requirement they asked of while recovering from his injuries. Looking at the voicemail screenshot uploaded, the transcript appears to support one important point: the caller says they needed to talk get a firm start date and wanted to make sure everything is set in stone. The transcript shown does not appear to state a specific date or time that you were expected to report to work. If the actual audio matches the transcript, that could be relevant evidence because it tends to support your claim that no firm schedule had been communicated before they later asked why you weren't there. They also stated they would find someone quicker then it would take my client to heal which is "long before he completed training and was paid, my client provided documentation from my doctor regarding injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. During a conversation with management, he was told that they could find someone else quicker than it would take him to heal. I found that statement dismissive of his documented medical situation and inconsistent with professional treatment of an employee dealing with an injury." uploading the rest of the evidence won't be a problem but since this place is under investigation we thought we'd let yall know so you can find a better job opportunity, there's better retirement homes then this one that doesn't care for their current employees & incoming employees, just disrespectful & unprofessional dismissive and insensitive never again thank you for your time. read more

If you're suddenly in the stressful place of finding the right fit for a loved one needing assisted living, you'd be smart to include Atria Grand Oaks in your search. I moved my father here from another nearby facility for many reasons, but the main one? The people. Not just the many attentive caregivers and detail-driven admin staff, but frankly, the residents themselves. They bring a noticeably upbeat vibe on-site by being genuinely friendly and outgoing - there's good energy here. To me, that's as important to consider as a property's amenities or pricing. Yet, cost-wise, this is the best value you'll find in the TO/WLV area. Hands down. The facility itself is lovely and well kept, with generously sized rooms (even the studios), an expansive dining room featuring a daily menu of surprisingly tasty selections, a pool, a theatre, a library, a gym, fun outings, activities, daily transport as needed, and gorgeous exterior grounds (including a putting green) that are meticulously maintained and quickly refreshed as needed. Also notable: An impressive, new arrangement of high-end flowers that greets you in the foyer each week. Why does this matter? Efforts like these say a lot about the approach Atria insists on when overseeing your loved one. Details matter here. Now, some past reviews posted below may say otherwise (when Eden (the current executive director, who is terrific) and the new chef (who is talented as well as accommodating) weren't in place yet), but from what I've encountered, the staff delivers a remarkably one-on-one, personal experience to each of its residents. Importantly, these folks are also nothing but attentive and accommodating in working with family members to help manage a resident's care schedule and travel. Given all this, my dad and I are grateful to have found this option as his new home. A last comment on rent increases (true of any assisted living facility - not a slam on Atria). The contracts of many facilities use misleading legal speak when describing the "potential" of rent increases. Phrases like, "In the event the facility should experience an increase in rates" or "From time to time, the property will incur a rent increase based on blah blah blah...." This is false, and I don't know how care facilities are allowed to create this untrue impression on a legal document. The simple truth is, every January 1st the rent will increase. Now, your sales rep will admit this if you ask. But the smart move? Add it in writing to the contract before you sign. Stipulate what you agree to pay, percentage wise, as an increase each year. I'd recommend no more than 5-7%. After all, it's likely they need you as much as you need them, and your strongest leverage is right before you sign anything. Despite your search being an emotional journey, at the end of the day, this is business. Facilities need to fill rooms quickly and generate income. After checking out a few places, I decided on Atria Grand Oaks. It's been 8 months and so far I have not been disappointed. The staff is wonderful and there are activity's going on every day, including poker games, blackjack and bingo. There are outings a couple times a week in the Atria bus and the drivers are very nice and helpful. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and I can order changes in the menu for me. The pricing is reasonable for what you get and so far, no problem. I have met some very nice people here. If you are looking for assisted living, choosing Atria should be your choice. read more

Thanks to the"Business Owner" of Atria Grand Oaks for her response to my review of Jan. 7. She assured me that the Executive Director had already contacted me, not so, and would re-contact me, also, not so. The Regional Vice President has also not responded. What do residents of an Atria Senior Living Facility have to do to actually share their experiences with the Corporate office in order to bring about many needed changes, specifically in issues related to their safety? Our front door is not monitored 24/7, residents are at great risk should they need to exit or enter after 8 PM. An Alert signal can be ignored for two days! Yes, this actually occurred to one resident who, thank goodness, was not in danger. Please, Michelle, we need some help! Or at least tell me where to go? I have already responded to an article by Journalist Steve Lopez of the L.A Times regarding my experience as an older person living at Atria. I look forward to hearing from him. You may ask: Why am I still here?? 1. it cost me a great deal of money to make the move here in March of 2022. I am on a fixed income, like most older adults. 2. I have made friends among the residents and many of the caring and hard working staff. 3. I strongly suspect, that based on discussions with another facility, that without any real oversight the other facilities in my area are no different. We all had very large rent increases for 2023 with no positive change in service. There are a few residents whose children report on Yelp that their loved one is happy. Very few are. It has been quite some time since my father lived at Atria Grand Oaks, but an experience with an elderly friend looking for living arrangements brought me to look at their reviews and I needed to comment. My father moved to GO in 2019. It was a new experience for him, but he enjoyed the community meals, movies, & happy hours. However, after a few months, his eyesight deteriorated to the point where I had to take away his car. This caused him quite a bit of anxiety, & he began to go to the front desk frequently and, admittedly, at all hours, asking for help with items he wanted to take somewhere, getting transportation, etc. I am sure he's not the only elderly person to experience anxiety (in fact, the psychiatrist who treated him said having their car taken away is the number one reason for anxiety in elderly men), but Atria handled it very poorly. They called me constantly, berated him, & finally insisted that I put him on Xanax or remove him from the facility. (I was later told that Xanax is not appropriate for the elderly, as it confuses them!) They gave us no notice, but insisted he leave immediately (despite my having already paid his rent for that month). Reading other reviews, in light of this lack of concern for the residents, has made me realize how thankful I was that he did not have to go through the quarantine there. I can see how disturbing that attitude would have been & I'm thankful I moved him to another place where they truly cared about their residents & not just the rent check. read more

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU SIGN I need to post this review to deter any family that would trust their loved one to be cared for at Atria Grand Oaks. When we first toured Atria Grand Oaks we were impressed with the staff, apartment, dining etc. After several months we noticed a change with mom, she complained constantly about the lack of help in her daily routines. Her hearing and sight are compromised (which is why she went into assisted living).Although some staff members are extremely helpful and kind, some of the senior staff and management seem to only be interested in the monthly rate. Example, moms move in rate was 6600.00 monthly. This included pill management It stayed that way from July 2022 through December 2022. In January 2023 we received an increase of 1000.00 a month. No letter, no warning. We paid it with no questions asked. Said it was cost of living increase. In April of this year Brian the director of Atria Grand Oaks decided to raise moms rent to level three 2025.00 more a month in addition to her pill management of 560.00 We received this increase in the mail No phone call no meeting. When we tried to speak with Diane the nurse, we were told she didn't work there anymore. 8959.00 a month after nine months of residence. He said the fee was to have someone sit in her living room twice a week while she showered and to escort her back to her room after meals from time to time. (When the elevator was broken for a month she got lost sometimes) as many did. 30 percent increase in a little more than nine months. (Mom looked no different at all. Hair was still messy). I understand a business needs profit to survive, but this business has no moral compass about fees. If I could give minus stars I would. In my opinion Brian the director of Atria Grand Oaks is driven more by profit than care. Please be advised that when you sign a contract with Atria Grand Oaks you are allowing them to increase fees at anytime with no warning and at their discretion. Also if you decide to leave Atria Grand Oaks make sure you give 30 day's notice in writing. We moved mom out May 20.We felt hurried to leave Atria Grand Oaks after the latest fee structure and found Brian put a full month rent on our bill because no notice was given in writing. Although we called numerous times to talk with him at the beginning of May. I left several messages with no returned phone calls. We are now paid through July and my mom is living in South Carolina. I've already called Atria headquarters in Louisville Kentucky, I'll follow up when I hear back from them. read more

I moved to Atria Grand Oaks in May of 2019 after looking at three other senior assisted facilities in Venture county. I was immediately impressed with the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of residents common areas and the open, bright dining room. I knew I would participate in many of the the weekly variety of activities and exercise in the beautiful heated pool. I still drive, so Atria's location in the heart of Thousand Oaks was convenient for everything I needed and wanted to do. I'm in a one bedroom apartment that offers a full kitchen with washer and dryer and lovely balcony with a gorgeous west view. My 2 cats made the adjustment from a larger home and they too are quite contented here. The attention to residents needs exceeded my expectation. From the executive director, caregivers, activity staff, food servers, house keepers, receptionists, drivers and maintenance staff, all are caring and wonderful people dedicated to making senior assisted living as pleasant as I had hoped for. The corona virus is an alarming, unsettling, restricted time filled with concern and sadness for all. All meals, snacks, beverages, daily mail and even exercise suggestions are brought to each residents apartment by the wait staff and even senior management team. I am comforted by knowing I choose the best senior facility for my needs. read more

My mom moved in almost 2 months ago. 97 years old with mild cognitive impairment and needs a walker to get around any distance. Her hearing and eyesight are both challenged. Big adjustment after many years in San Diego with my dad, who passed away late last year. So far, Atria Grand Oaks has exceeded my family's hopes. The apartments are nice and most have good amenities, she has a small kitchen with appliances and washer/dryer, internet, tv, and phone connections are almost free. Building is very well maintained inside and out, beautiful walking path and putting green, not a lot of guest parking but street parking is near and we haven't had real problems. The people are terrific from the front desk to the dining room staff to the medical technician staff, and to everyone else, all courteous and attentive and helping. Dining room food is excellent, service is wonderful. Salon is remodeled and soon will be staffed, they have doctors incl. podiatrist who come regularly. All fab! read more

I have posted 2 negative reviews and you would think someone at corporate would have responded to my review, but they haven't. I hate to be so negative, but it is criminal how much this place charges for an apartment and does not provide the services that we were promised when they were trying to sell us on this place. Today one of The residentsyou was trying to make arrangements for the car service to take her to her doctor's appointment only to be told that they have cut the hours of that service. Now the latest they will pick you up is 2 pm. When we came for a tour before my mother moved in, they were promising that the driver was available until 4:30. Soon after my mom moved in the residents were told that the hours were being cut and the latest the driver worked was 3:30. Today they told a resident that the driver was off at 2:00 pm. I read someone's review that said how wonderful the Atria Grand Oaks was because of Carol, the activities director and Reuben, the maintenance supervisor. Well, Carol's last day was Tuesday and no one knows what happened to Reuben, but he is no longer working there. Additionally, the supervisor is being replaced. I sure hope the new supervisor will make the changes that need to be made. You may ask why I don't move my mother to a different facility, change is not easy for elderly people and if the Atria just makes good on their promises, it would be an exceptional place to live. read more

After a fall, my dad was no longer able to live alone in Leisure Village. He was fortunate in that he had previously toured several assisted living residences in the Thousand Oaks/Westlake area before really needing to move out of his home, and he chose Atria Grand Oaks. When he could no longer live alone, we were able to move him to Atria, a place he had chosen. He moved into a studio apartment, which is a very good size for him. He has been there for 6 months and both he and I are pleased with his choice. My dad has made new friends at Atria and enjoys sitting with them at meals and outside after lunch when the weather is nice. Everyone is very friendly. He never misses Friday happy hour and the accompanying musical entertainment, and enjoys going to physical therapy, and started attending one of the exercise classes. There are many other activities and trips available, but so far this has been enough for him. He is happy someone else cook his meals, and we are pleased with the personal attention of the staff who serve the meals and help by cutting his food when he needs it. There is always plenty of food to eat. The apartment cleaning staff is excellent. Rosa is very sweet. Joan, the activities director has been great. My dad commented several times about how hard she works to organize all the parties and activities. Rob, in physical therapy has really helped my dad improve his mobility. The staff always say hello to the residents by name whenever they see them, and make them feel at home. Atria also handled the situation with the current fires very professionally. Atria residents had to be evacuated for a few days due to smoke in the air. Decisions had to be made quickly, and the residents were transported by large, comfortable buses to another Atria facility and then to a very nice Wyndham hotel in Irvine. There was plenty of Atria staff staying with them, making sure that all of the residents had their medications, supplies, toiletries, and whatever else they needed. Upon returning to Atria, residents were greeted by a big welcome back party, with decorations, food and entertainment. We recommend Atria Grand Oaks without hesitation. read more

My 95 year old aunt has been living here for the last few years. She pays several thousand dollars a month. She has nothing good to say about the staff or food available. I am a hospitality professional. I am a graduate of UNLV school for hospitality management and from what I have observed agree with her 100%. Unfortunately she is in no condition to relocate. I am writing this to warn anyone that reads this that this facility is no place to place your loved one. Unfortunately it would not take much to correct but with the change over of poorly trained management I suspect these conditions will never be corrected. It was all because she liked to sit outside and they thought she was at risk of leaving despite a note from the doctor that said she was perfectly fine with being outside. We came into Atria Grand Oaks as a potential new resident - we dropped in. Enjoyed our experience in the dining room. Our server, Hillary was attentive and accommodating - introduced herself to my father. He can also be particular about his meals and she was able to handle all of the requests, answer most of our questions while keeping a smile on her face throughout. She was very helpful. Our tour on the other hand didn't meet any of our must haves. Phones were ringing off the hook, cleanliness in common areas and public bathroom was substandard, and availability of management team was very disappointing. My mom has been staying at Atria Grand Oaks for six months now and I have to give recognition to the one person that holds this place together. Joan Pappas is Activities Director, but she is SO MUCH more than that. Joan is the only director that takes time to know all residents, their families and their ailments. She always has a smile on her face even when people are being negative. This job is more than a paycheck, it is what she was meant to do. She's an amazing organizer, caregiver and activities director. There is not one issue that you bring to her that she won't pursue. She always gets back to whether you like the answer or not. She is the only director that attends the residents meetings where basically everyone tells her everything that is wrong. She should not be there alone but since she is, how can Director of Activities be her title? She is addressing every issue ( most not even related to activities). She has driven residents to doctors appointments and stays later than anybody else on the directors staff. She makes the activities fun by getting involved and dancing or doing whatever she can to try to motivate the residents to participate. She makes things fun. Since there is a temporary director right now, it is my biggest fear that Atria will lose Joan. That would be terrible. read more

My mom has lived here for two years and I am uniformly pleased with the caring, service and environment. The care staff are all involved and attentive and loving. Carol Ricklin is the best, sweetest and most caring activities director anywhere. The front desk always greets me with a smile and is helpful. Even Ruben, the maintenance guy, knows my mom and keeps an eye out for her. Plus, the building is upscale and beautiful and well maintained. I am very happy with this community for my mom. I am so outraged that Atria Grand Oaks had the audacity to raise my mother's rent by $500.00 starting January 2021. I understand that the corporation is all about making money, but don't they take the economic hardships of the individuals into consideration? The residents have literally been kept sequestered in their rooms for the past year. They have had no activities, no entertainment, no social gatherings. It is definitely understandable because of Covid, but how can you raise the rent so much or at all and eliminate all the amenities and benefits of living at a your facility. My mom pays an exorbitant amount which she was willing to do because she received so many benefits, but since COVID all the benefits are gone. Please reconsider your rent increases until you can give the residents their money's worth. There have been many vacancies and employee turnover in the last few years and it is a shame that the corporation does not care more about the resident and less about the dollar. With so many other choices out there for senior facilities, I will not be surprised if Atria Grand Oaks has many more vacancies in the very near future. read more

My sister is at Atria Grand Oaks, and even though right now she has to stay in her room for safety and health reasons (coronavirus) she just loves it there. She said the director is doing everything possible to keep residents comfortable and safe and well cared for. She's excited that the regular "happy hour" will continue--although each person will be served their beverage in their individual apartment! Ha. We transferred our parent here from the other Atria facility in Thousand Oaks. He is much happier & the level of care is far superior. The staff goes above and beyond, and the rooms are beautiful albeit on the pricy side. I couldn't think of anywhere I would rather place a parent requiring assisted living supportive services. We recently had to (our call) transfer our parent into the memory care side and we are beyond pleased. Any issue and we are notified (falls, etc) immediately. Well I don't know where to start with how Atria Grand handled this pandemic .If your thinking of putting a family member in this place.Think Again my mom was fully engaged in every activity before Covid because of this awful disease the residents were kept in there rooms for 4 months .My mom no longer can walk because they never had her walk even down a hall way.They never even saw any other resident even though they all were quarantined .Three meals a day were given with absolutely no human contact .My mom is now in a memory care Unit in another facility.Atria never called to ask how she was doing ,when I sent a caregiver in to see her and she told me my mom wasn't able to walk shower and was extremely sad and confused.I had a ambulance pick her up immediately she's been in the hospital for over a month due to their lack of care and concern.I blame Atria because family wasn't allowed in to see the family (I understood that because of the virus)however they had a obligation to at least let me know what horrible physical and mental shape she was in.Shane on them.Also there was someone that worked there that was caught stealing my mom lost money and electronics .I filed a police report they had many other reports from Atria as well and has done nothing .Its been over two months since my mom left there,I'm still waiting for a final bill.Terrible place... read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. The management at Atria are two faced, rude, and unethical. They sell hard to get you in the door claiming scarcity of rooms. Then when they get your loved one in (in this case my grandmother), they treat them poorly, are rude to the resident and you, and try to push you to leave so that they can pull the same story on a new resident to jack up room rates. They will undoubtedly reply to this review saying they are concerned with the circumstance and ask to call them to resolve, but that is simply their attempt to save face since they were uninterested in actually being ethical in person. Don't fall for their lies, you will regret it. Other posts by an employee praising Atria is a biased attempt to make themselves look good. This place is awful! There are far better retirement homes in the area. Stay away! I had a parent there that I had to move out because the staff was nasty and inconsiderate. Management is constantly changing hands at Atria Grand Oaks. The current executive director and head nurse are especially controlling. They do not have the resident's best interest in mind. My parent who is always so happy would break down in tears daily because of how cruel and disrespectful the staff was. Instead of trying to find solutions, they turned their backs and walked away. My mom lived at Atria Grand Oaks for 2 years. My mom and our family had a terrible experience with Atria and I hope this review will spare some grief for others. There are many wonderful assisted living facilities in the area and I strongly suggest looking at other options and steering clear of Atria. My mom began having dementia issues and the executive director and head nurse required her to stay inside at all times and refrain from sitting outside on the benches directly out in front of the lobby entrance. My mom loved sitting outside with her friends as that was her main enjoyment to be out in the fresh air. She was not physically capable of walking off and knew better than to step in front of the driveway. Most importantly, her doctor gave directives that she was able to sit outside without assistance. The executive director and head nurse did not follow doctor's orders as required. Our family received a call on a Saturday evening that she was despondent. We were told by the executive director that we needed to take her out of Atria immediately that night. We came to get her and she was happily eating dessert with her friends in the dining hall. She had been very upset over the issue about having to stay inside but not despondent. We left with her that evening as they wouldn't allow her to stay any longer since they couldn't handle what they viewed as a despondent resident. Assisted living facilities deal with fluctuating emotions of the elderly all the time and don't ask the residents to leave. Don't entrust your loved one at a facility that isn't able to truly care for the elderly needs. Run don't walk away from this uncaring place. read more

There is plenty to do and the staff have been great in helping me find my way around and letting me know when stuff is going on. This is the first time that I have ever said " I could run this place better". The food for the residents is cold, inedible and appalling. You would think for 9k a month they would hire a gourmet chef for people who deserve good food. The food that is served to the memory care facility is an even worse case, after all the other residents have eaten that's when memory care is served the food (which has been sitting). So the residents that are suffering the most get their food cold soggy and chewy. The management is run by friends of friends so nothing gets reported or dealt with. They are completely understaffed, management will argue with advocates and you will be over charged for services not rendered. I suggest families go through their "receipts" with a fine comb because they will try and sneak charges. The staff that is not management is caring and helpful however, they are belittled, yelled at and degraded in front of residents and family members. I truly feel sorry for all regular staff. Atria has class action lawsuit against it, that you can find online, by their employee's complaining about bad treatment. We have witnessed personally management yelling at employee's in front of a whole room full of residents and visitors. These episodes are reported to management, by those employee's and they are ignored. This facility runs out of : Half n' Half, coffee, American cheese and hamburgers (even though hamburgers were being pushed) The list goes on for a while. Visiting and having lunch many different residents would complain about the food to us. Letting us know that in the past 2 years things have really gone down hill. I would not suggest putting your loved ones in this facility unless you want to basically monitor, visit and take care of and supply your loved ones with bottled water, snacks and quality food. Management is everything when it comes a company and this place is un-organized, under staffed and under stocked. The outside is beautiful, tiled walls and high ceilings but this does not make up for the lack of care. Do not be fooled by the showy decorating/architecture , this is why you will be over charged for everything. I strongly encourage you not to place your loved one in an Atria assisted living facility. The management at the facility that my mother was at, and at corporate, have absolutely no compassion for the elderly people under their care. Their only interest is maximizing the revenue they can generate. My 99 year old mother was very happy there and was kicked out for no apparent reason. They made her distraught to the point where we had no choice but to move her somewhere else, which greatly upset her as she can no longer have meals and socialize with the friends she made there. The Atria management refused to follow the written orders from my mother's doctor, which led to her being upset and distraught. The new executive director and her management team have no regard for the well-being of the residents. My mother was living there for three years and the basic rate for her unit increased by 6% after the first year and 7% after the second year. Do not expect to pay anywhere near the amount they quote you to get you in the door. They have had three complete changes of most personnel over the three years. Corporate Atria seems to not care what is going on at their facilities. Please, do not consider this place for your loved one. read more

Very nice facility! My Dad loves the community, they give great support, and the people who work here are great as well. The employees/staff have bent over backyards to make his new home comfortable, warm and very accommodating. The community is lively, friendly , well maintained, and lovely. There is absolutely NO SMELLS here, as the former hater, Kate C. is writing about, but I do agree with her as far as the large companies who own these facilities.... they are absolutely sucking money out of the residents, and adult children to pay these extremely high prices at all of these assisted living facilities.........and every thing is ala carte...........nothing is included accept for the room and board......all services are EXTRA! Which is really not great. It will add alot to the already high prices, and for that they should be ashamed of themselves..........they have figured out a way to rip off the families for sure! read more
