My mother was here for three years. I did not choose the place, my brothers dumped her here. During…read morethose three years I took Mom to every doctor appt. she needed (13 times/year). Sometimes staff members would make appointments for some unknown reason. Before we left for doctor they would give us their records for the doctor and when we returned I would give them back doctor's report, so they were well-aware Mom was being taken care of properly. Mom's cardiologist told me staff had brought Mom there and tried to get the doctor to sign papers saying Mom couldn't make her own decisions (yeah, we know, that's why I've been taking care of this from the start). Doctor believed they were scheming to take guardianship of Mom. Why would they want to do that? Thought they could grab some assets, did they? (Mom didn't have any). Then Mom lost all her personal property before I had to sneak her out of there to go to a nursing home. No staff ever reported to me noticing items missing. When I got there it was nearly empty. New microwave gone, pole lamp gone, footstool gone, all her books were gone, all family photos were gone, every silhouette of her grandchildren was gone (22 of them, I think), jewelry box mostly empty with wedding rings and anything worth a little something was gone. Had to call police. Never got any satisfaction from Bloomfield. They alleged Mom put them all down the trash chute all by herself. Can you imagine a frail 82-year-old putting a heavy microwave oven down the trash chute? How about a pole lamp? Footstool? Every single piece of clothing was gone, except 3 blouses. No one ever called me to say things were missing, until that day when only a few blouses were left. Why didn't staff notice? Why didn't staff properly report this? Why didn't corporate office deal with this instead of forwarding to the director who was already being accused of negligence? Do not leave your loved one here. They are not safe and they may well be robbed before they get out.

They made me feel very comfortable with the process - it was my first time going through it and I wanted to find the perfect environment for my mother. In addition, they offer a wide variety of services and the pricing is very affordable. I also found out that the community was recently purchased by a family based in the Midwest that has over 40 years in the business. I was delighted to learn that they are spending nearly $1 million to remodel and upgrade the community's common areas and individual apartments. I was also surprised by how spacious the apartments are. The staff was very excited and enthusiastic about all the improvements and the new ownership. I wanted to share my experience with others going through this difficult process.

The food was excellent. So many programs offered! My mom was even allowed to "rent" out party rooms for family get-togethers/baby shower. The staff was great, too. One of the nurses, literally, saved my mom's life after she suffered a heart attack by performing CPR. Sadly, we had to move my mom to the nursing home behind the independent living building. All I can say is STAY AWAY from the nursing home. I was expecting it to run as smoothly and professionally as the independent living place, but was dead wrong. Half the time, no one answers the phone, which is disconcerting. They lost family photos we brought for her room. And when she moved to hospice, they threw all of her belongings in a garbage bag--including pants and a lamp that didn't belong to her AND some paperwork on another patient which is a huge HIPAA violation. So really, this review is twofold: independent living at Normandy = GREAT; nursing home at Normandy = CRAP

He was placed on a very comprehensive physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy program and has made excellent progress over the past two months. The facility is really nice and he has a spacious room where he can entertain guests although there are other areas outside his room to sit and chat as well as a lovely courtyard. He has enjoyed morning exercise classes and other activities and likes the food served in the dining room. All in all, we have been very satisfied with his experience.

The staff were sincere in their care and in their respect for my Mom's welfare. The food was very tasty: The many times that I visited my Mom over those four years, I also enjoyed the food. There were a large choice of activities, including music, cognitive, fun and physical. Every Jewish Holiday was celebrated. If I needed to one day live in an assisted living facility, Stone Gardens is where it would be.

Spoke to some very nice young ladies that told me they had an extra one and he could have it. How lovely, generous, kind and caring! Picked it up shortly after and it was in remarkable condition. More than what I had in mind and it made a world of difference. They wanted nothing in return other than helping out and being wonderful people. Thank You So Very Much!

I have been a resident for 12 months. The new owner has put the rent up $300/single and $400/double…read more(a 16.4% rise for 2025). The new owner is a "for profit" LLC and claims the increase is to keep in line with 'current market rates.' In the mean time, the food services has been reduced and the quality of the food sourcing has gone to the lowest possible provider. The continental breakfast appears in advertising, but is not provided in the lease and is only a 'courtesy' from the landlord. The new, absentee land lord from NJ, also has struck out wording from the former lease which would limit incremental services charges to be passed on to the resident. They are in it for the money and residence safety and well being are not the driving concern to providing senior independent living. There are better landlords in the Cleveland metro area which will not price gouge current senior residents with indiscriminate sur charges. Chippawa Place has lost it's reputation as a quality care independent living option and is now under the Horizon umbrella of facilities.

My mother has been a resident in the Memory Care Unit of Governor's Village for about a year and a…read morehalf. The building itself is always clean, homey and well-decorated (non-institutional). Much thought has been given to creating a pleasant experience for visitors and residents alike. Garden areas are wonderful during spring, summer and fall for walks, bird watching, gardening. There are plenty of events, celebrations to meet various interests/abilities. They have just built a new addition which was handled in such a creative, thoughtful way -- residents' lives remained normal and calm despite construction. Plus, it is beautiful! Most important, I am thrilled with the level of care, concern and genuine affection/compassion the staff provides and exhibits toward my mother, as well as the other residents. Patience, understanding, creativity and sense of family are very evident whether a resident's family member is present or not. Nurses and caregivers have gone out of their way to meet my mother's needs and mine as well -- so I'd don't need to guess how she is doing. They share anecdotes of what she's said or done during the day; if she's happy, sad; ate well/or not so well; was up all night or slept well -- without my asking. This is very important to me as her primary caregiver. They are truly extensions of me and do it better than I ever could at this point in her journey. We are both blessed to have found such a wonderful place for her to live.
