My wife and I enjoyed our last meal with our kids and family at the start of 2026 that we booked…read moreanother meal on Saturday and I'm glad we did. We live FT in The Sea Ranch so Harbor House is an easy drive and it's like having our own neighborhood Michelin star resort and dining in the hood. Lunch was as good as I remember it. We started with a raw smoked trout stater and it was gently smoked which kept the trout firm and with only a hint of the curing process. Their freshly made bread followed and that kelp churned butter is to die for. The next two courses were a poached black cod in a home made miso sauce that was a lesson in how to ferment properly ! Delicious. The pork loin followed and I must admit it was a little tough - perhaps not rested enough post cooking or just a little over. The dish had teenie tiny wasabi leaves among all the veggies and greens on the plate and they really imparted a lovely natural zinginess...desert was some sort of a custard with a thin meringue and some other wonderfulness that made the whole thing refreshing but not too sweet and a lovely end to the meal. It was our 34th anniversary and we had made it a point to mention it when we made the reservation but they didn't even stick a candle in the dessert they gave us as a part of the meal...which seemed a missed opportunity IMHO. Just saying, we eat out quite a bit and most of the time not to celebrate anything special so it's nice when an establishment makes mention and notice of it in some way... We had the wine pairings ($100/each) along with the five course lunch ($150/each) and they do a nice job with the pairings, mainly featuring nice Italian varietals and of course some local favorites from the area - like Baxter (Pinot) and a dessert style wine that was very nice and not something I would have normally thought to order on my own. The grounds are as beautiful as always and now that spring has sprung and the flowers on their grounds are in full bloom and the beach area is starting to take on that summer sheen - it was a stellar afternoon once again. We will be keeping this place on regular rotation for sure and we look forward to our next meal later this summer when the tomatoes are ripe and the fruits and vegetables are in all their glory ! Highly recommend.

Food wasn't up to the standard I would expect from a 2 Star Michelin restaurant. Maybe lunch is different? We have been to many Michelin starred restaurants and this just didn't cut it. The food was beautifully prepared but extremely bland and not very exciting, except for the desert. We informed them in advance that this was our anniversary. I would think that this level of restaurant would do something special. We have been to restaurants that presented a personalized menu, greetings on plates, after dinner cordials, etc.

We visited Mar Vista in early June this year and had such a magical time. Cab and Deanna are…read moregenuinely kind, warm-hearted people who have created a truly special place to share with others. Our cottage was incredibly cozy, and our days were filled with simple joys: harvesting vegetables from the garden, feeding the bunnies, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, helping shepherd the goats, and playing with the cats. There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. Our toddler has been asking to go back every single day since we left, and honestly, so have we. We can't wait to return.

Things have been more stressful than usual (don't we all know) so when my sister suggested a…read more"sister escape" I jumped at the chance. She had been here before but it was my first time and I can't say enough good things about it. Deanna and Cab clearly love their place and share it freely. We did the farm tour which was very inspirational and informative for wannabe gardeners like us! I feel inspired. We had fresh eggs and fresh picks from the garden at every meal. Beautiful views and so relaxing to just sit out in nature. Don't miss the stars at night and do not miss getting the fried chicken basket! We definitely will return, I think it needs to at least be a yearly event!

We stayed at this hotel in 2018 (coming from the east coast) and had a wonderful experience. Stayed…read morein Smuggler's Cove. Loved the food, the wine, the bath amenities, and the setting is nearly impossible to beat if you like a quiet retreat for a vacation. This year we decided to go back and stayed in Heron. Again, we were so happy to be here. Tremendously relaxed, barely looking at our phones, taking walks and having incredible conversations, etc. Eating breakfast on the balcony and looking out into the gulch and onto the Pacific Ocean was incredible. With the room provided binoculars we saw whale spouts out in the ocean. I didn't believe it when my wife told me until I saw it with my own eyes. Mendocino is lovely with a fun selection of great places to eat, the park overlooking the cliffs is a great place to run and walk, etc. One other thing I wanted to mention - I got a somatic Reiki experience with Alex, and it was truly profound. I've gotten Reiki for years but this was on another level. I am deeply grateful for that experience and it's continued to resonate with me for weeks after my return home. So if you go, I highly recommend this experience.

1. We were not notified of any possible construction during our stay PRIOR to arriving on our day…read moreof check in. I was told that because we were notified of the construction when we literally checked in at 3 PM on a Friday, we could have cancelled the day we arrived. So, we were supposed to then try to locate 4 rooms (our entire party of 8) at another establishment the day of our check in? This is egregious and shady and clearly the ownership has their own interest of earning cash as their priority, NOT the guest experience. Photos of the construction from our room attached as well as a video but of the constant noise. 2. When I complained that the noise of the construction was way too loud on Saturday 7/18 at 2:30 PM (after we just dealt with the noise Friday, AND the loud music the workers were playing, and singing to) I was told that the noise from the tools would cease within ten minutes. That was a lie as it continued well past 5:30 PM that evening. 3. One week prior to our check in date, I requested a massage appointment via the BGI inquiry. I was never contacted. I then called the Wednesday prior to check on the status of the massage appointment request. I received a return call on Thursday 7/16 and the woman actually said "we never received the online inquiry, we're not sure where all those emails are going. I'll find out what is going on and then call you back." After she asked me my preferred spa treatment and date/time, we hung up. I never received a return call. I also never heard anything from anyone regarding the spa appointment after checking in on property. 4. Two of the 6 items they offer for breakfast were unavailable BOTH days we were there. Neither the burrito nor the chilaquilles were available during our stay. Sunday 7/19 the kitchen was out of sourdough toast. 5. We told staff that we would not be having the Bento Box on 7/18 yet I still received a phone call from BGI where they said they knew I was out to dinner but wanted to know if I still wanted the Bento Box. 6. After returning from dinner at 8:30 PM on Saturday 7/18, not a single staff member was available. Both my brother and I called the phone number to get a hold of a staff member to no avail. The overall feel is the staff are "out to lunch" and the owner clearly only cares about his bank account. We will not be returning.

The house itself was clean and the bed mattress was top quality. It was an amazing nights rest. The stove fireplace was perfect for the chilly nights and the kitchen fully stocked to make a 3 course meal plus more. The location was ideal to venture the town, walk to the Headlands, and the Harvest Market is only 3 blocks away. I would have given 5 stars but the bathroom was not so private and a bit too close to the downstairs bed. Overall...very fair rate for our stay. I would stay here agein

It's the perfect escape from everything and totally affordable. We stayed in the garden studio on weekdays for only $70/night. You can't beat that price for any room that's actually in the tiny town of Mendocino. There's no breakfast served at the cottages but you're only a short walk from downtown Mendocino which has plenty of coffee, food options, and great art galleries. Mendocino is adorable, and has a completely relaxed vibe. The cottages are on the very west end of town so only a 1/4 mile walk down the road to Mendocino Headlands State Park with breathtaking scenery. The room was very clean, quirky and cozy decorations, and plenty of firewood is provided. The three cottages are on the same property, kind of an extended backyard, but the incredible garden and ample space made it seem very private. The proprietor was nice but not overly involved in our stay or our business. She lives on site but was pretty much absent. This is a great place to stay in Mendocino and the price is unbeatable.
