Wow, Ian you and your staff have exceeded our expectations. The room is very nice! Fresh breakfast, juice and coffee delivered to your door each morning what an additional bonus. The peace and quiet to overlook park and ocean in the distance is a great way to start day. Very polite and attentive staff. Your little sitting areas on property are a Way to end the day with a glass wine. For those who don't want to drive to go and sightsee, have a cup of coffee or get a drink/bite to eat....walk out the front door for a short walk to ALL. We will definitely return and refer others. Perhaps next time we will try one of the other rooms just to see what else to offer. Nice soft towels and a quaint gas fireplace in the room. Oh yes, don't worry about charging cords for your your phones has two of the cradle charging beds beside the bed to keep you ready to go. No tv in the room. Take advantage of that. I found Seagull Inn Bed & Breakfast through Airbnb, and it was the only spot available within a short drive of our destination wedding venue. I'm so glad that we booked at this B&B, and we had a seamless experience! We checked in around 4:30pm on Saturday, and the receptionist took down our preferred time for breakfast before leading us to the Geranium Room. The room was spacious and the pictures matched the Airbnb listing. Seagull Inn offers an intimate weekend getaway experience, and my favorite part of the accommodation was the breakfast delivered straight to our room by the owner. We were treated to artichoke quiches, local bread, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffees. It was quite the treat, and while quiche isn't my first choice, I really enjoyed theirs! I highly recommend this B&B if you're looking for a peaceful ambiance and delicious breakfast, all within walking distance to downtown shops. read more

UNLAWFUL BEHAVIOR AND CONSTANT LYING OF THE OWNER Update: After more than 10 phone calls and several days of being ignored, I finally managed to speak with the owner, Ian. Unfortunately, the call only made things worse. He was extremely rude and dismissive, and insisted we must have caused the damage -- even though his own staff admitted that one cleaner checked the room right after we left and found everything perfectly fine. The broken towel bar wasn't reported until hours later by a different cleaner who entered the room at 2 p.m. Despite that clear timeline, Ian still blamed us and showed no interest in hearing the facts. What's worse, he said he would only consider refunding the $150 charge if I removed my negative review. No accountability. No recognition of the week-long stress, and unanswered emails. Just manipulation -- as if my frustration, wasted time, and poor treatment were all irrelevant. Original: I had a deeply disappointing experience with Seagull Inn Bed and Breakfast. We checked out of the Frolic room on May 14 with everything in perfect condition. However, on May 17, I was unexpectedly charged $150 accompanied by a disrespectful email accusing us of breaking a towel bar -- something we absolutely did not do. I immediately replied to the email asking for photos or any form of evidence. No one ever responded. I then called on May 17, 18, and 19, speaking with three different staff members. Each time I was told the same thing: they couldn't do anything, but that the owner, Ian, would call me back that same day. It's now May 20, and I have yet to hear a single word from him. To make matters worse, one staff member actually admitted that their cleaning lady went into the room shortly after we left at 10 a.m. and confirmed everything was fine. Then, another cleaner supposedly entered the room at 2 p.m. and reported the damage. That clearly means it couldn't have been us -- yet they still charged me and refused to reverse it, despite knowing these facts. The lack of communication, accountability, and basic customer respect has been appalling. I feel like I've been scammed, or at the very least, treated extremely unfairly. I would not recommend staying here unless you're comfortable being blamed and charged for damages without any proof and being completely ignored when you try to defend yourself. read more

I've been going to Seagull Inn Bed & breakfast for years. NO MORE. IAN, one owner preferred to alienate a customer rather than take Scott (the miserable desk clerk) to task. I'd booked a stay, learned a friend wanted to join me and CALLED AND SPOKE TO A WOMAN, (likely the owner) and asked what price the Barn was for 2 days later than my original reservation. She said she'd give it to me for the same rate (THERE WAS NO OTHER RESERVATION HELD FOR THE ENTIRE PROPERTY). I was celebrating my and my friend from Washington's 70th birthdays. We arrive later afternoon and Scott informs us the rate was $150 more than the woman quoted me. We paid it as we didn't want to spend our time hunting another reservation and because Seagull Inn is more affordable than most. Scott was rude to me, I'd put my bags on the counter away from him as there was no other place than the floor for my purse, bag, coat. He told me to move it as I was encroaching on his space. Then he insisted on walking us to the room. I told him I'd been there many times and it was necessary plus I told him I didn't wish to speak to him any further. HE RUINED OUR TRIP FROM THE START. My friend has never been to Mendocino. I grew up in Marin County and found it to be a little slice of heaven. Now, thanks to Scott, my memory of Mendocino is tainted and I'll never stay at this B&B again consequently. I wrote to the owner who never responded. Ian is on the City Council or at least was at the time. So, City Council members, know Scott isn't a nice or kind business person. read more

Wonderful stay with innkeepers Ian and his lovely wife. Ian greeted us upon our arrival and gave us a little backstory of the property and their time as innkeepers. He offered up suggestions for dining and activities as well. They even gave us the recipes to some of the breakfast items we enjoyed at our request! The inn has a wonderful little garden, as do lots of homes in the village. So much green foliage and flowers to enjoy. Even had a hummingbird visit one sunny day. The inn is perfectly located within minutes of boutique shops, dining, and the headlands coastal path. We stayed in Lookout 1 room, I think there is about 8 different rooms. The bed was pretty comfy, there was seating inside and rocking chairs on the porch, and the heater kept the room nice and toasty when we used it in the evening. This area is affected, like much of Calif, with the drought, so there are reminders everywhere to conserve water. That includes keeping your showers to a minimum and so forth. They do operate off wells in this area so just be mindful to the community as a whole. Shower was kind of small, fine for me but larger folks might feel a bit claustrophobic. It's a 130+ year old building so it just goes with the territory I suppose. The breakfasts were delivered to your room at one of 2 times (830 or 930) and they always made a point to add nice touches like fresh flowers. Enjoyed each different breakfast. All in all, we loved it and loved the convenience and hospitality. We would definitely go back. read more

When we decide on a last minute weekend getaway to Mendocino, I knew it was the perfect place to stay at a B&B. But when I looked at the High House Inn which had a Groupon offer, I noticed that they offered the bed but not the breakfast, really defeating the purpose of the B&B experience. So I immediately started looking at other options and came across the Sea Gull Inn. Although Mendocino Village itself is only about a 2-3 block radius, Sea Gull Inn was perfectly located, down the block from the McCallum House for dinner, a block away from the trailhead to head down to the beach or the top of the seacliffs for a beautiful sunset or early morning walk. With 4 rooms upstairs and 3 downstairs as part of the house, there is also the Barn and the Shed which is next to but detached from the main inn in different sizes so there is bound to be a room perfect for everyone. I loved how they allowed you to peek into the other unoccupied rooms so you can see which ones you would like to return to stay in the future. We stayed in the beautiful Driftwood Room which is the largest one upstairs, although one of the priciest, that comes with a tub/shower combo and complete with a small fireplace that acts as the heater as well to keep you cozy on a cold night. Upon peeking at the other rooms, I also fell in love with the Sand Dollar, one of the smaller rooms upstairs that faces the front so therefore has a small oceanview and wonderful lighting. There is no common indoor area but you do have full access to their outside garden with lots of seating to unwind with a good book. The front desk hours are limited to the morning through check out at 11AM, with a break in between and then return again from check in at 3PM to about 7PM. Because there is no common area, breakfast is delivered to your room often by owner Jim directly with orange juice, a choice of hot beverage like coffee or hot chocolate, a serving of fruit, a baked item like a huge muffin and yogurt which is so good I do wish it was more than a couple of spoonful. But overall it is a nice filling breakfast perfect to enjoy in the comfort of your own room. Everyone is so nice and would definitely return to my favorite Driftwood and backup Sand Dollar for the next time I am in the area. read more

An adorable bed and breakfast that made our trip to Mendocino so special! Great location with literally all of the restaurants/shops/beach within a short walking distance. Service was excellent, with the most beautiful and delicious breakfasts served every morning! I particularly loved the amount of outdoor areas to lounge/eat outside for within the actual inn, which was great for breakfast or takeout of other meals. We got the Albion room which was cozy and small, perfectly fine for two people. Also, as it was an old building the walls are definitely thin Couldn't recommend more! read more

How all Bed & Breakfasts should be... This little towns cuteness level is at 100%! Mendocino is known for its cliffside trails and beautiful beaches. It also hasn't been touched in years as far as architecture goes and there are many very old houses, hotels, restaurants and shops. Absolutely charming! I wanted to do something extra special for my moms bday and Mother's Day since they were just days apart and I luckily found this gem! It's walking distance from the ocean! It's also in the middle of town and you can get to anything you'd need very easily! Jim and his wife run the place and they are the perfect type of wonderful, funny, kind, and entertaining people to do this type of job. For them it's probably not even a job! They just love everything about what they do! The rooms are adorable! The bed was extra comfy! The large bathroom offered a heater which was very helpful on a cold morning. The seascape decor makes you feel like staying for much longer than your scheduled trip! I was so comfortable here and really wanted to stay forever! Jim gets up early in the morning to make breakfast for everyone and then brings it your room! We actually enjoyed ours in bed and loved it all! Coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and the best parfait I've ever had! They were filled with fresh fruit and granola! We loved our time here and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something extra special. Mendocino itself is worth a visit if you ever find yourself in Northern California. read more

Staying at this historic B&B was really amazing. The owner checked us in and was nice and told about the town and everything still open and what to do. We were asked what time we wanted our breakfast and we said 8 as we had to get on the road by 8:30. Around 8:30 we asks where is was and they said they are still working on it, so unfortunately we sat in our room for 45 mins waiting on something we could have and had to leave. We stayed in July for 2 nights great experiences, booked for December 26 , 2024 to celebrate 18 years wedding anniversary paid full price for one night in advance in July, for December had two deaths in our family in December 2024 ,in the whole sad reality of life .. I called seven days before instead of eight days before to get a full refund, the owner was not empathetic at all, said that if he was able to rent out the room that we would get a refund if not no refund we have to pay for the room, for the other nights ,no empathy for what's going on in our lives just strictly about business, we will never stay there again I think it's horrible business practice to be so un-empathetic and just concerned about your business and the almighty dollar , that it's about business that's terrible. Nobody can foresee things in the future like these unfortunate, deaths .., and because I called one day - late of 8 days instead, I called seven days in advance because I just completely forgot about this. It wasn't our first thought given the fact of what's been going on , in our real lives ,, owner Seems great when you're there in the face-to-face and staying there , but then over the phone different scenario , just poor management and poor ownership and no empathy is a poor way to do business , like I said I will never stay there again if I was offered a free room I wouldn't stay there again because of not having any empathy for peoples situation , as a business owner a small business owner just wanted to let people know what they're dealing with when they decide to stay there. read more

This Bed and Breakfast was by far the best decision we made while staying in Mendocino. Not only is the beach just a short walk from the Inn, it's also in a prime location for delicious food, fun pubs, and cute boutiques. The views are breathtaking and makes the stay even more worth it. The beds are super comfortable and I love how the building is historical and contributes so much character to the decor. Ian and his wife made our stay so welcoming and pleasant and the breakfasts were delicious! Upon checking in, the manager went "way" of his way to ask us what we could or could not have for breakfast as we were assured they are very proud of their food. That sounded good. Baked bread pudding (it was delicious), but our fruit had been frozen, it was mushy, and the yogurt was served in an egg cup, three teaspoons worth. It was like having desert for breakfast, but that bread pudding was delicious.The coffee was very good. The next day, my breakfast was fruit in a parfait cup with yogurt..no bread, roll, nothing. We were offered a split of wine upon arrival, which was nice. We were told it was a local wine and to be sure to visit them and mention the Inn for a discount. We suspect the winery gives them wines for the guest to get more customers to come visit, which is a great idea. Our room had wine glasses and an opener, nice touch. The room itself, all windows are painted shut, no "fresh ocean breeze" for us, that was a huge disappointment. Our front doors' window shutter did not pull all the way down, we had to hang our bath towels on hangers so someone could not look in. When I mentioned it to the manager, he just looked at me and never said a thing. The next day, I mentioned to his wife when she delivered our breakfast and her remark was, "well, when you order on line, that's what you get". Um, that's really not a good answer. Geranium Room: Amenities in the room, there really are none. The shampoo and body wash are in a container glued to the wall inside the shower. No cute pleasant soaps or lotion were offered. No coffee pot in the room (which in a B and B I really would not expect), we brought our own Kurig. However, they did not offer coffee in their office for guest in the morning, that would have been a nice touch. Some people like coffee before breakfast, but that is not a huge deal, but would have been nice. Maybe they normally have coffee, but due to COVID? But I doubt it as there is no "gathering place" really. The room itself, the beds are comfortable, as are the linens. Loved their towels. The furnishings all seem to have been saved from second hand stores (the table leg in our room had been broken off and another piece of wood attached to the leg so it would not fall over) they were all repaired or in need of repair. The table was in the corner and you had to sit sideways to sit at the table as there was no room to turn the chair facing the table. Internet, the listing shows they have internet. The managers never mention or offered a code to log in. That would have been nice. (We always have our own hot spots with us, but some people don't). I actually found the internet information on our last of 3 days in their book in the room. I know, I should have asked. That was totally my fault because I did not read their binder that was in the room. The room we have does not have a private patio/ or a patio at all. No place to sit outside to seen the ocean. The view out our room had an upside down wheel barrow in the bushes our entire 3 days. There is a place over by the office to sit if we wanted to visit. This room has no area to relax outside like the others, but I think it's the only room that has 2 beds. Take note, we could hear the couple upstairs "enjoying" their evening... but it's a historic house, so? Also, when the couple upstairs turned on their showers the next morning, my friend got a surprise as her shower turned very cold. Interesting.... we told them "no service", but they came in to collect their vases that they deliver on your breakfast tray daily, but to me, "no service, means, don't come in my room". We had IPads out, nothing was touched, but it was our request to not come in. We met the housekeeper, she is extremely nice. Let me say this however... they've only had this property for 2 years. They are a school teacher and (not sure what his job is but he's still working). I suspect they took on a lot and maybe this is this is their first B and B. This couple is a very nice couple. They really care about the clients that stay with them. It's my opinion that they are really trying, but they could do better. 1. Work on the grounds. 2. Offer soaps and lotions and shampoo (charge more if you need to). 3. Get those windows to open so that someone can enjoy the ocean breezes as the only air you get is to have the front door open and everyone walking by look right in. 4.. lower the blind on that front door. A gap of 2 or 3 inches when you're trying to relax at night is kind of creepy, especially for women (the husbands did not join us on this trip). 5. Maybe have coffee in the lobby so people can enjoy coffee before breakfast is delivered. Perhaps offer a boiled egg for protein to balance out a sweet baked breakfast offering? My hope is they will get it together, I know they are trying, and I wish them well. read more

My wife and I stayed for a second time this year and had excellent and fun visits both times. The newer owners, Ian and Kim Roth, took over the Seagull Inn in 2018 and have poured themselves into the property and the community. Their ongoing hard work, stewardship of the Inn, and commitment to the community shows. Ian and Kim are both service-oriented and work hard to create an experience of feeling like you are at home without the responsibilities. Ian is a wealth of information about Mendocino history and knows all of the trails and local offerings if you're looking to become more oriented to the area. The location couldn't be better as the Seagull Inn is walkable to everything including morning coffee, fine restaurants, galleries, shops and the Headlands Hike starting to the South. We look forward to returning to the Seagull Inn in Mendocino to escape the valley heat and to visit our new friends Ian and Kim. read more

This weekend my boyfriend and I stayed at the SeaGulf Inn. We got to the inn around 5:30 and it was so nice to be created by the staff there. The place is so quaint and fabulous!!! It was centrally locates and easy to find! I am sooo thankful for the owners who were absolutely so friendly and helpful! They told us where to go and how to get around. I just spent two nights at the Seagull Inn, got home and 2 hours later, I called to book another weekend get away three weeks from today! That is how much I loved Loved LOVED the Seagull Inn, Kim and Ian and everything Mendocino has to offer. I can't believe how much Ian and Kim have done to improve the Inn: * the new decorating touches making the rooms brighter and more welcoming, * the new added comforts like plush pillows, fluffy comforters and beautiful bedding, * continuing the old breakfast favorites while adding fruit parfaits with homemade granola and yogurt, * the gardens have been opened up making that Mendocino ocean bluff view more impressive and hard to miss, * the new outdoor furniture perfect to enjoy the breakfast or an afternoon glass a wine, * the soon to be completed shed for bike enthusiast! I can't wait the 2 and a half weeks for my trip back! Highly recommend it! read more

We stayed at the Sea Gull Inn for my partner's birthday weekend getaway and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in The Shed, an adorable and comfortable cottage that used to be a gardening shed but has been transformed into a delightful little room. The bed was comfortable and the decor, charming. It felt very private and cozy. We had brought some celebratory champagne, which the innkeeper graciously chilled in the fridge for us, then brought out in an ice bucket when we asked for it. Breakfasts in the garden were enhanced by the scent of blooming jasmine and the sight of a hummingbird feeding on the fuchsias. The inn is located just steps away from shops, restaurants, and the waterfront. Only two things slightly marred the experience. A loud machine noise coming from the Mendocino Cafe, located next door, ran 24/7, which is the sort of thing that is usually guaranteed to keep me from sleeping, but I dodged that bullet and slept well anyway, though it did take me a while to fall back asleep after I woke up at one point. I later figured out it was probably the cafe's ice machine. The curtains were not thick enough to block out most of the light from a very bright porch light, so the room was too light during the night. I couldn't find a switch for the light. If I stay here again, I'm going to unscrew the bulb before going to bed. If these sorts of things bother you, I recommend one of the other rooms. But these were minor details in a delightful stay and I heartily recommend this inn. read more

What a gem! The Seagull is full of charm - from the burled wood sculptures sprinkled throughout the garden, to the lovely sitting areas outside the rooms, I love this inn! We really enjoyed the breakfasts each morning, delicious fruits, fresh squeezed orange juice, a great tea selection, and a lil vase of flowers. And... and and on a particularly rainy afternoon, on of the gals working here, Skye, (whom I adored!) brought us 2 lovely pots of hot tea! I loved our light-filled room, the Driftwood, with it's plush king-sized bed, cozy gas fireplace, endless views, big windows and a wonderful big tub! I highly recommend the Seagull. read more

It is a quintessential B&B experience, with lovely hosts, delicious and hearty breakfasts, and right in town so it's easy to get to everything lovely in Mendocino. This place is a real treat when you need a brake from everyday business. As a surprise it offers no TV (in our Room - Lookout 1) which - of course - we first find awkward, but in the end really enjoyed. Thats because you see that you can easily focus on other things: like watching the house cat sleeping, or just sitting in the swing chair and enjoy the day. It is not about the decor, this is absolut fitting the surrounding, you may like it or not. But its seams just a tad outdated at least in the bathroom. But the shower is still providing a better water stream then other. Also impressed with how clean it is! For our opinion - and of course as all reviews are this is our personal opinion, other finds it great - bed is way to soft (my inner child think: still fun to bounce on it). But after the location and the view (which both are GREAT) There is the BREAKFAST, innkeepers have a love to detail when it comes to fulfil a morning breakfast feast, great work! You set a time and they bring it to your room with a fresh hot item of the day (in our case a gingerbread muffin and a crazily delicious egg puff the next morning). Always accomplished with a glas of OJ (i believe not fresh squeezed), your hot drink of choice and a daily changing fruit salad that is made with love - you can see that in every cut! Thanks so much! And they could do smaller portions and still would get great compliments about it - but when you see the size of the hot stuff, you really can feel how they care. It is a great start into the day! And the daily fresh flowers on your tray give you always an extra smile! Just the breakfast alone make you crying when you have to leave. You will miss knocking on the dorr the next morning! We don't add picture, cause the one already on here air so accurate - you don't need more. So finally very close to the water, great views, easy to get to the main street and all the important stuff by foot, great breakfast and nice hosts. A perfect hideaway for a weekend, you will enjoy it after all! I am so glad that we stumbled upon this quaint inn. Everything was up to snuff. The welcome was warm, the check in was easy and the room and bath were clean, comfortable and cozy. Breakfast was brought to us and was a light one consisting of fruit, yogurt and a baked good of some kind in addition to coffee and juice. The location was perfect as it was walking distance to everything (well, I guess everything is because it's a small town) but on a quiet side street away from traffic. The gardens are lovely with little seating areas to relax and enjoy some wine or breakfast. I loved this place so much and recommend that you give them a call. read more

Lovely little inn and a lovely little town. Short walk to the beach and to all of the little cute shops. Ian went out of his way to make our first wedding anniversary special! If you are curious ask about their wine and chocolate add-ons to the room :-) Breakfast in bed was perfect and just enough to start your day right. Super cute B&B right in the heart if Mendocino! Location is amazing, walking distance to everything. Our room was very clean and cozy. We stayed in "Abalone". It didn't have a view, but we did see that there are 3 others with ocean views. Hosts were very nice and breakfast was amazing! We stayed two nights and had a different breakfast each morning. The Seagull Inn is an exceptionally charming B&B. My Bf and I stayed there for one night on a quick weekend getaway to Mendocino. It has a great location with views of the ocean from the front garden, as well as an easy walk to all the cute shops and restaurants on Main Street. Ian and Kim were fantastic, friendly hosts.... we could have chatted with them for hours! They really make you feel like family. We appreciated their great recommendations for food and must-sees in the area. Our room was clean and cozy- slept great on that big bed. Having that cute morning breakfast tray brought to our room was such a unique treat! Can't wait to come back again in the Fall!! read more

Stayed at the Seagull Inn B&B to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. There was a small bottle of red wine waiting for us the first night and a lovely split of champagne served with our delicious breakfast in the morning. Both of these thoughtful gestures made our occasion very special. I have a very hyper-sensitive nose and staying in "The Shed" proved it so. The room was charming, very cozy and perfect for the two of us, however there was a very distinct (somewhat musty, stale and borderline moldy) damp odor hanging in the air. I couldn't figure out if it was from the carpet (which can use a good shampooing or replacement) or the armoire (which can be cleaned up or refinished and aired out). I couldn't walk around barefoot in the room nor could I hang any of my clothes in the armoire. I loved the rustic ambiance and charm of the room, but the distinct odor made it very hard to relax (almost unbearable) and really enjoy it. We'd already paid for a two-night stay, but I wouldn't have been able to stay another night in "The Shed." read more

Umm.. I really tried to like this place but I was SO disappointed in it. The house is very old and the updates just did not seem to match with the time period of the house. It feels like a total mish mash of different eras. I mean I'm all about eclectic but it's just not good enough for what this house could be. Windows were not working very well. A handyman could really help these folks out as I see the charm they are imagining.. sweet place but needs work. (This was last summer so I want to mention that upfront, in case things have changed though the reviews since do not mention any major work that was done). The rooms are really small, goes with house obviously but felt really stuffy. The shower is very small, and the bed was against the wall so only one person could get out on one side while the other had to climb over basically. The folks that are running it were OK, kept to themselves. The wildish garden in back is more of that hodge podge stuff. Breakfast was homemade scones, lovely fruit, good coffee. I had never been to Mendocino and it felt like it once was really cool but now seems a has been.. all the hippies that were selling their crafts were nowhere to be found for the most part and were replaced by little shops that did not have any local crafts to speak of. You have to pay extra if you want a shower!! They charge $1 per minute for a shower. Seriously? When you rent a hotel room (B&B) would you ever think to ask if you a shower was included? Will there be an up charge if you want heat this winter? Go somewhere else. read more

This was an excellent stay for us, especially the holiday weekend when everything else was booked. The perfect location to walk to the shops and the cove and the staff were friendly and flexible. The original room was cozy; however, Kim was able to accommodate us to a room that fit our needs much better and made our stay more comfortable. Kim and her husband care about their guest's experience. We enjoyed the breakfast, and maple glazed Oven-roasted granola. Kim even gave us the recipe to go. We will definitely stay here again and refer to our friends and family. read more
