Your primary care team needs to do better. When promised a follow up call, no one will ever call. Prescriptions are never sent right the first time. Medical information on my chart has inaccurate info, which is the most concerning. I ask for it to be corrected every time and it never is. I leave every appointment frustrated and taken advantage of. You need to do better. read more

I came here for a first PCP visit. I sent my medical records over a week before my appointment and received confirmation that they were received and would be added to my file. At the appointment, Dr. Wagner had not reviewed my record and none of the information was in my file. This made for a pretty useless physical as she had no history to refer to. She repeatedly commented on my weight, and as soon as she noticed my high BMI immediately told me I need to go on a low carb, low sugar, low salt diet. Not once did she ask me about my current eating habits or lifestyle, or discuss other reasons that it might not be beneficial for me to monitor my eating that strictly, and dismissed me when I tried to bring this up. She also tried to attribute an elevated blood pressure reading to nervousness about seeing a new doctor. I literally rolled my eyes at this as I've worked around hospital settings for around 10 years, and have seen a variety of doctors over the years without issue. But she remained adamant that I must be nervous. In general, she also repeated the same questions several times and I was lucky to be seated in view of her computer screen because several times I caught her entering inaccurate information that I needed to correct her on. She seemed very rushed and I felt as though she was not making any effort to actually speak with me, rather she ran through a checklist of items and moved on after she said her piece. I have never left a doctor's appointment as upset about my treatment before. Her lack of desire to have a discussion with me was very aggravating and demoralizing. read more

I have been going here since I got my first "grown-up" job out of college in 1988 and I really like it. Now that I am a mom and I am still going here and really have no major complaints. I really LOVE Dr. Slater in pediatrics - we have had a lot of bumps in the road and he has guided us over them with grace. I like my PCP, although the lecture about my tattoo was not necessary (I mean my mom did that). Really happy all around - how many people can say that about managed care. read more

The secretaries are so unprofessional a young woman has answered and hangs up each time I call. All I want to do is schedule an appointment and be done with it. But she keeps hanging up when she hears my voice. I have done nothing but said "Hello can I please schedule an app..." then clicks the phone. I highly recommend Harvard vanguard. I have never had issues getting appointments (like many other places) additionally if you happen to miss an appointment they are always sure to reach out and reschedule. Also a quick shout out to all the outstanding nurses and doctors! read more

My daughter and I have primary care physicians at Watertown HVMA. We have had very good experiences with our doctors and all the medical support staff over a number of years. They are thorough, thoughtful, experienced and very responsive. I couldn't ask for more. Pharmacy staff are also great. read more

I started coming here about 2 years ago. I've seen many NP's, Dr. Gold(something?) in internal medicine, and one of the ob/gyns. All of my treatment has been very good and extremely thorough. Most recently for a routine physical we went through a ton of family history, and I was also set up for certain shots to do a trip I have planned to Pacific Asia. Everyone is really nice, and comfortable to talk to. Their pharmacy downstairs is fast and it makes visits really convenient. If you're looking for a PCP, or specialist I would recommend them. read more

My family uses HVMA Watertown office for our OB and pediatricians (we use Cambridge for internal medicine). I am amazed at how well organized they are and how the staff from top to bottom are great and with positive attitudes. Whether it is scheduling appointments, talking to a NP or the doctors - they all are pleasant to work with. And I love how responsive they are to their e-mail system. Specifically, Sara Mannix and Daniella Courban were our NP and OBGYN for my wife's first pregnancy. At the end some complications arose and Dr. Courban's intuition may have saved our daughter's life. She felt something was wrong and got things moving. Post-birth tests proved she was right! Everyone is healthy thanks to her skills. And Sara has been very helpful all along and my wife loves her! We started seeing Dr. Thayer for our daughter's pediatrician (on a recommendation) and she comes as advertised - awesome. She doesn't rush us and makes us feel at home as new parents. She takes time to tell us both sides of an issue and then gives her opinion, outlining her thought process. We totally love HVMA in Watertown... read more

I really like this place. Dr. Goldensher used to be my doctor. Great doctors, and NP's. The only thing I don't like is that if you don't have a PPO with the insurance only HMO they will NOT approved any outside referrals.This includes walk-in clinics or urgent care, regardless of the reason that you may have. Otherwise they are good and the pharmacy, lab and all their employees are very nice.. read more

Made an appointment while on MassHealth "temporary insurance". They were able to fit me in the next day, which was great. What wasn't great: When I showed up they told me they had screwed up the appointment time and they wouldn't be able to take me. After a little shuffling around they did manage to take me despite the fact that I was told to be there at the incorrect time, and they did their best to accommodate all of the more pressing issues. Although I was annoyed by the miscommunication, I was pleased that they tried so hard to help me anyway, and you can't beat the in-house pharmacy for convenience. read more

I only have positive things to say about this place. They really go above and beyond any doctor's office I have ever been to. We come here for my 15 month old daughter who is a patient of Dr. Thayer's. I did quite a bit of research on where to go for pediatric primary care. After doing some online research, messaging fellow Yelpers who have gone to this practice before, and consulting with my OB/GYN, I decided to come here and to see Dr. Thayer. Dr. Thayer is AMAZING!! She takes her time and seems genuinely concerned for her patients. She impresses me with her continued reading to keep on top of medical research and trends However, what impressed me the most was that she knew exactly what kind of food I was making for my daughter. I'm Chinese American and make a rice porridge also known as congee. Most non-Chinese do not know what congee is, but Dr. Thayer did! As I was describing the rice porridge that I was making, Dr. Thayer asked, "Is it congee?" Apparently, she's traveled to China a couple of times with her husband on business and knows that it's commonly served for breakfast. I am just blown away by her intelligence and knowledge. Many of the Boston area physicians attended Harvard, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised! I like the fact that they have a 24 hour answering service. You call and leave your name and number, and a nurse practitioner calls you back within 30 minutes. I have used this service many times in the middle of the night, especially when my daughter has come down with a fever. It's comforting for a parent to speak with a professional about what to do and how to care for a sick baby/child. A few weeks ago my daughter had a febrile seizure. I called Dr. Thayer's office and they suggested that I go straight to the ER at Children's Hospital. It was a Friday morning, and we ended up staying there until 5PM, six hours in the ER!! On Monday morning at 9AM, I get a phone call from Dr. Thayer's office. They wanted to follow-up with me and for my daughter to be seen as well. I was quite impressed by their initiative. I've never had a doctor's office do that before. Honestly, I've thought about leaving my own primary care doctor b/c the service at this Watertown Harvard Vanguard is far superior. It really exceeds your expectations. The office is very well organized, and I like how they have a pharmacy on the first floor of the building. It saves you a trip to the CVS down the street and that's very helpful if you are with a small child. Of the times that we were unable to be seen by Dr. Thayer, we were well taken care of by Dr. Mitchell and another male Dr. who was new to the practice but seems to have gone now - can't find him on the Harvard Vanguard website. Overall, I highly recommend this place. All health care practices should be like this one, especially considering how expensive medical care is!! read more

Very, very good doctor's office! I love how well organized this place is, and the ability to view, set, cancel, and reschedule appointments online is fantastic! I can also log in and see all of my test results and information from my physicals. I've seen an internal medicine doc and an optometrist and both were very professional and pleasant. There are so many other branches of HVMA in the Boston area, so even if I were to move to another part of the area, I'd still be set. I'd definitely recommend this office to anyone looking for a Primairy Care PHysician or Specialist! read more

Dr Nou has been my primary Dr since I moved backed to this area four years ago. She is the absolute best Dr anyone could ask for. She is super friendly, answers all your questions and more, very thorough, offers her knowledge, advice, responds to calls/messages promptly. She told me at the visit , the test results prob won't be back for 3-4 days. She knew how apprehensive I was about it. She messaged me the results the SAME day!! Not great luck at Harvard Vanguard. I had one good doctor here who has since retired, and the nurse practitioners and PAs are usually decent...but most of the doctors here have been really incompetent. The ob-gyns I've seen at this HV were really awful. I have endometriosis and they kept pushing me to go on some medication that forces your body into a fake menopause when I was clearly not comfortable with that. The last time I went there was for foot pain and the internal medicine doctor I saw diagnosed me with plantar fasciitis. I came home and looked up plantar fasciitis online and it was absolutely NOTHING like the pain I had!! Not even remotely!! I was appalled! My husband has been there for severe digestive problems and his PCP doesn't seem to want to take him seriously either. AND the doctor repeatedly accuses him of doing "recreational drugs." The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of one is because the physician's assistant, Cheryl Whitney, is very, VERY good. read more

I agree with the previous review about Dr. Nou. She is wonderful. Very caring and helpful. In injured my finger and had to have surgery. Even though she was not involved in the care of my finger, she saw my medical record and sent me a note to let me know she was aware and available if I needed anything. Really above and beyond. Unlike other reviews, I have never waited beyond 5 minutes for an appointment and this is true of all Harvard Vanguard facilities I have visited. No sooner do I sit down, then I am called into the exam room. I don't think I've ever finished a single magazine page in the 15 years I've been going there. A great medical provider. read more

I was a patient of Dr. St. Goar. I came to her practice in 2009 when I looked for a PCP after rectal bleeding. I have panic disorder and it was uncontrolled at that point. I was a mess, crying and shaking but she seemed sympathetic and had a good bed side manner. She asked me to go to the lab downstairs for various blood tests. I received a call that night that my blood sugar was 455 and come to the office the next day. Dr. St. Goar was not in so I saw one of her colleagues. The colleague told me that if my ketones were high, I had to go to the ER. I called said dr twice and received the phone call at 11 pm to go to the ER. It took 12 hours to check if I had ketones?? I went to the ER where I was borderline ketoacidodis. I was sent home and went on vacation. For the next four months, I never saw Dr. St. Goar. I saw her nurse for my care. Dr. Goar assumed because I have all but one type 2's in my family, I was type 2. Not once did Dr. Goar or her staff test myself for antibodies. which I knew should have been done. I went to two different Endocrinologist who tested and found antibodies. I indeed was a type 1 diabetic. One even saw problems with my thyroid, sent me for an ultra sound and biopsy. I asked Dr. Goar for medical advice for dental novocaine since I have a benign heart condition. Her and her staff refused to help me. All they wanted to do is get hostile and fight with me over a physical. I complained to the Massachusetts Medical Board about this doctor and they opened a file on her. It was eventually closed. She was also successfully sued for a large sum of money for malpractice in 2004 or 2005. I feel sorry for her patients. She is clearly does not do a good job and shame on Harvard Vanguard for keeping her in their practice. read more

I recently moved to Medford and switched over to the Harvard Vanguard location in Medford. I'd have to say that the Watertown office has better flow and has an overall better mood to it. It's comfortable and the staff are friendlier here than in the Medford clinic. Martha the allergy nurse in Watertown still gets 5 stars though. read more

Absolutely phenomenal care. Our whole family has our docs, specialists and our kids pedis through HVMA. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. They are thorough, organized, warm, and very committed to patient care. They have an online email system if you wish to use it. I love it and there's an app for it. If you have a non-emergent question, you will get a response within 24 hrs. I have not ever had a less than perfect visit to this group. I unequivocally recommend HVMA. read more

Great facility with some very good providers. However it can be very difficult to schedule an appointment and when you do get your appointment you will wait and wait and wait. It's fairly common for people to wait 30 minutes past their appointment time so don't try and make an appointment during work hours. read more

This place is definitely contributing to the declining healthcare industry. All they care about is money. When trying to get an out of hospital network referral, I had to contact the administrator, who after a lengthy and extremely patronizing conversation finally said she would give me the referral. However, the next day she left a message saying she decided that it was not a good idea to give me the referral and would not authorize it. This seems incredibly unprofessional for an administrator to go back on their word to a patient. I am definitely switching PCPs and would not recommend the Harvard Vanguard network to anybody. They are only interested in their own wallet, and do not care at all about their patients health or wellbeing. read more

Not many people can say that they like going to the doctors, but I truly enjoy my visits. All staff members are always polite and professional. They do their best to assist all patients in a timely manner. My primary is Dr. Wagner and she is amazing. She has done so much to make sure that I am on my way to wellness and follows up with me often. Her nurse practitioner, Trish, is also great. She listens and explains everything so that you know and are a little more comfortable. The front desk, the labs, the pharmacy and internal medicine are great. read more

My family is new to the area, and HVMA was recommended to us by our neighbors. While I have only had an initial appointment for my son, I can say that the professionalism and service of the office staff/phone staff is AMAZING. Every person I've spoken with has been courteous, efficient, and dare I say it? Helpful. This is a drastic departure from my previous office, we loved our physician, but the office management and staff left much to be desired. I am impressed, especially because I know that the volume of calls and stress level of callers in need of medical assistance must be grueling. I noticed at the pediatrician's office that they had prominently placed cards for reporting/recognizing service and I can only hope that the staff are incentivized and rewarded for the great job they are doing! Made the cold call process of finding new primary care docs a breeze! read more

I am very satisfied with my medical care at Harvard Vanguard. I've been an Internal Medicine patient for about 6 years now. My only complaint is their billing department. My last physical was coded incorrectly as a sick visit (non-covered service with my insurance plan) when it was a routine physical (covered service with my insurance plan). After an hour on the phone with my insurance company, Harvard Vanguard and the pathology lab Harvard Vanguard agreed that they had coded the visit wrong and would re-code and re-submit. Two months later I get another bill. After another hour on the phone I learn that Harvard Vanguard had not re-coded the visit, they had just re-submitted it. They said they would re-code and re-submit. Insurance ended up denying the claim because they had now reviewed it twice so I had to pay out of pocket because of Harvard Vanguard's mistake. I wrote Harvard Vanguard a letter but I doubt they will do anything. This happened to me 2 years ago and it was a similar situation with Harvard Vanguard coding the visit incorrectly. My issues with them coding services wrong and my having to pay out of pocket for a services that should have been covered is now causing me to re-think getting my care there, which is too bad because I liked their medical care. read more

I just want to say i been a patient at hv for a few years now, but i just want to say how happy i am with this doctors office, very well organized, clean and a very friendly staff, specially my dr. Natarijan she is very calm and helpful at all the times she listen to me and my concerns which i really appreciated, also her assistant very kind, friendly and smily at all the times, yosmari help me scheduling appointments, canceling which i easy can do but she goes above and beyond her duty to help me, they are a great team, last time i went i need it a sleep study, she spend an hour trying to schedule even though she had more pt she told me to sit that she will be with me shortly she keep me inform of every step she was doing, i decided to post this because not at all doctors office they will be as friendly and as nice as Watertown, keep up the good work and i will continue my care at hv Watertown, thanks for this great place and team.
