After getting a haircut and beard trim from Khalid, the owner, I think the price point is absolutely justified. It was a very thorough and exacting treatment, going well over the one-hour period allotted. He used a straight razor extensively. I was pleasantly surprised by the hot towel treatment, which some shops only include with a full shave. The overall vibe was quiet and very business-like. After the cut, I chatted with Khalid for a bit, and he was very congenial. I live out of state and spend only a month a year in San Francisco, otherwise he would be my regular barber. But I'll look forward to a yearly visit.

For me the experience is grounded in the hot towels and other little additions. After some research I decided to give Ahmet's a try. I called in and spoke to Iggy, one of the multiple stylists that work there and he was able to see me and off I went. Two years on I'm still a devoted customer to Iggy and enjoy my monthly head shave and beard trim. I usually spend about an hour in the chair and in that hour get the full service, he's been able to style my beard into something quite awesome and I've received many positive comments after I started going. The quality of the service is one thing, it has been consistently brilliant and I feel relaxed and pampered after all the various potions, lotions, hot and cold towels are applied. Iggy is also notable for being absolutely always on time, I do have a very inflexible schedule for delays and I feel confident that I can make an appointment with Iggy and be done at a consistent and predictable time. I've become very fond of my monthly visits, sometimes I sneak in an extra appointment especially if I've been a bit lazy in my maintenance. The shop often starts appointments late but reacts poorly if customers are even slightly late. Prices constantly change for the same haircut, sometimes even between customers. The barber also speaks negatively about customers in Arabic and the tools appear unclean. Overall, the experience feels unprofessional and inconsistent. The barber seems to change the price whenever he feels like it. I've seen him charge the customer before me $45 for the same haircut, and then ask me for $60 right after. Recently, when I tried to book an appointment for three days, my messages were either ignored or declined. When he finally responded, he asked for $70 and insisted on cash, even though the highest he had ever charged me before was $60 through Zelle. Every visit seems to have a different price. I'm not complaining about paying for a good haircut, but there should be a consistent price for the same service and the same standard for all customers. Another uncomfortable issue is the way customers are talked about. I speak Arabic, and I've heard the barber speaking with his coworker in Arabic about customers and even making jokes about them. Today, after they switched me with no notification, the dude at the front desk tried to argue with me saying they switched my selected barber because one of their regulars was coming in, as though that is an obvious and fair thing to do, lolwut. He acted as though that happens automatically - Of course when they checked someone had manually booted me, with no heads up. When they notice they f'd up they offered me $5 off an $80 haircut, which is comical. Buddy, regulars pay the $80-$100 for a cut here for a pleasant and consistent experience. I won't be back and can't recommend this spot anymore. A shame, cause it used to be awesome.
