Got my hair colored again last month, and this time I added a haircut because it was long overdue. Like possibly almost 2yrs overdue. I scheduled the appointment for 10am on a Saturday, and then I got a call where they would do the haircut at 10am, and then the color at 10:30am. My stylist for the haircut was Alexander and he was so nice! He explained every step and made sure I was comfortable as we went along. This was also a dry cut, which I've never had. I was about to take my glasses off, and he asked that I keep them on since I wear them most of the time and he wanted to ensure my haircut would essentially accommodate it. I've never had a stylist ask me that before and it makes perfect sense. So now my hair frames my face well, with and without my glasses. After the haircut was the color with Zoe and it was a relaxing experience. I wanted to fall asleep (I'm the type that falls asleep to ASMR videos especially with combing and wooden makeup sounds). Then it was a shampoo and style with another stylist. I called that day my self-care Saturday, and I felt so relaxed and refreshed after being there for nearly 3 hours. Now that my hair has grown out a bit, it still looks good. I love the layers that Alexander created, which took my now naturally wavy hair into account (my hair has been getting wavier as I'm aging). I feel like my grays aren't blending as well as the color fades. Maybe it's because the new shampoo I'm using may be too good at retaining the color. At a certain angle, it's very apparent where the dye ends and where my grays start. But you'd have to be shorter than me to see it, and I'm pretty short. Overall the color still looks great and tbh I don't think anyone is noticing my gray roots at the moment. The cost of the haircut and color was over $400 with tip. But my hair is still looking fantastic a month in. And this is something I'll probably do twice a year, so it's something I can save up for. read more

When I moved to SF from Mexico City, I was worried I wouldn't find anyone to keep my balyage nice and bright, but after a thorough investigation and reddit search, I found Matty! Before making my appointment, I scheduled a consultation to make sure we were on the same page and the rest is history! Lol I went in for an appointment a week after my consult and he touched up my roots, made me slightly darker, and toned my hair all in 2.5 hours. I was impressed! My root touchups have always taken 4-6 hours, so this was impressive. I loved his work and would def recommend. I think I paid about 450 after tip and he gave me a few k18 samples! Extremely disappointing experience yesterday! Left feeling ripped off which is not what you would expect from a so called reputable salon. I came to get Balayage/ Highlights to lighten my hair that was darkened in a previous appointment (by same hairdresser back in Jan) - the color does not suit me. I ended up yesterday being given super patchy black/brown roots and no difference to the color on the lengths of my actual hair. I was suspicious when drying my hair, the stylist kept remarking how great it looked and said that putting curling tongs through my hair was going to enhance the look. I could not see any difference beside these super darks patches by my roots that do not blend. As you can see in the photos, my hair looks absolutely fried by the curling tongs which is the last thing anyone needs after a color appointment. After speaking to my stylist after my hair was completed and bringing up how the color was not what I wanted, I was told that it would show up more in natural light. That the dark patchy routes were because of all my grays hanging onto the color. She made me feel ugly and that my grays were a serious problem, instead of addressing my concerns. I'm 33 years old and do not have a problem with grey hairs. It was bizarre and came across as a very personal comment that was intended to hurt my feelings. I left the salon feeling like an idiot for opening my mouth, gaslighted and there was no offer to put it right other than spending another $420. This was such an upsetting experience and I do not recommend this salon. Thank you for ruining my hair and making me feel ashamed about myself. read more

Update: I find out on yelp after leaving a review that there is a fraudulent site - the business owner did not reach out to me directly. Instead, the salon texted me that there is a scam, no specifics and no support. When this happens, I believe it is a business's responsibility to warn their customer base proactively. For new and long time clients, how might businesses better support? It's a scary thing to go through and even more so when receiving no help nor any empathy in the process. I hate to leave a poor review, but I have to following a concerning experience and want to warn others if it happens to you. First - can't recommend Zoe enough! I've been coming to her for Keratin for a couple years. I just had a daughter in July and Keratin has been amazing for me! Zoe is a pro - so accommodating and gets it done in under two hours. The results last for 3-4 months. I booked a Keratin appointment beginning of March and was charged directly. That was surprising because spoke and weal usually holds the card and doesn't charge it - I didn't think anything of it at first. I got an email asking to confirm my appointment yesterday and called the salon as I was running a bit late today. But they didn't have a record of my appointment, nor the payment. Apparently both the email and the charge were fraudulent. How did this happen? I've received pushback and no explanation. My records show me that I went through their site to book. Now I'm left with a 350 dollar charge and no understanding about what happened. The salon is great and has good people, but they haven't supported a long time client after this happened. The fact that this kind of fraud can happen from an online reservation starting from their site worries me. Did someone spoof their site? Did someone create a similar site? No idea, but it sure isn't the client's responsibility if this happens. Watch out and if you're booking with them, call directly. read more

Hair Color Virgin?!??! YES I had VIRGIN HAIRR! Came here for a color appointment with Abram this week and I truly had a great experience. As someone doesn't usually do a lot of "maintenance" only my hair, nails or body, I was immediately comforted by how professional the salon staff are and how clean it was! It was my first color treatment EVER and I came with pictures and expressed my nerves to Abram. He was SO nice, super professional and was able to empathize with me while understand what I wanted. I wanted a very subtle change because my hair is already brown instead of jet black and he gave me exactly what I wanted. Super subtle color to add more depth to my coloring but only incrementally changing it since i know it will lighten over time. I was very happy with my results and after getting the shampoo, dry, and slight wave, i could see more depth. Talk about instant gratification- the entire appointment only took 90 minutes! I will see how the color grows out over time and hope to be back to Abram for all my coloring needs! read more

what highlights I had are now a mousy brown after I specifically said the highlights around my face were important. I did not get a style and when I wanted to be sure I wasn't charged for it I was told it was included. Now I have to find somewhere to get my highlights done during the holidays. I was a little scared after reading about the dry cuts. So scared I made sure to go in with 3 day unwashed hair. But to my surprise the process was great. Alexander was incredible. He went over my photos, walked me through the whole process. He did wash my hair, dry my hair and then begin cutting. It was a lil strange because I never seen anyone cut hair like this before but IT WORKED. My hair came out incredible and they offer a free bang trim in between cuts. Can't rate my experience here with Bee (Color Specialist) and Alexander (Stylist) highly enough! I've been a cool bleach blond for years, but the pandemic left me with serious roots and an unfortunate salon visit elsewhere prior the the pandemic, left me with very uneven hair. Bee spent hours getting everything picture perfect and is a fabulous communicator, in addition to her meticulous color skills and warm presence. Alexander took the time to listen to what I was open to in terms of a cut, while also working with my hair's natural tendencies and current condition (baby fine, wavy, and uneven from my last ordeal). I've visited so many salons in SF and LA and never felt terribly satisfied with my experience...that is, until my haircut last month with Gabrielle at Spoke & Weal. I have wavy hair and weird bangs, and had given myself some bad self cuts over the last few months. I needed help! I really appreciated how Gabrielle took some time to talk about my hair with me - my routine/maintenance, my past cuts, what I was looking for - before helping make a recommendation/plan for me. The in-salon experience overall was awesome, I love their dry cutting method, and Gabrielle recommended some Aveda products which I'm obsessed with. But most importantly, I am loving life with my new cut!! It's so easy to manage, and I really feel like she worked with my texture so all my curls seem to always look their best. While I may have walked out of a salon with a better looking temporary "hair style", as far as having a cut that I love, that looks great always and that I can manage on my own, I couldn't be more delighted. Abram Cortez my colorist at Spoke & Weal transformed my hair and actually got me to love my hair after giving me a Keratin treatment. I am Latina so my hair is medium to long and ALOT of it, so blowing it out is a chore I've always hated. Abram assured me that once I did a Keratin treatment, my hair would be much easier to dry and style. Abram has done so well at giving me lasting color on my grays and he does an amazing job on my highlights, that I figured I better take his advice and give Keratin a shot. OMG Abram was so right! My hair feels healthier, is way more manageable, my color and highlights shine more. Now I will always incorporate a Keratin treatment into my hair maintenance. Honestly, having a Keratin treatment makes me feel like I am more than half way ready, and can just walk out the door. My hair looks good, and really these days, that's all that really matters ;). He suggested a few changes and among the other things, said he was going for a softer look, a bit hip/modern and fuller on the top. I don't think I was completely sure what it meant but I felt comfortable trusting the process. I realized dry cuttting made it easy to see the progress, unlike wet cutting which definitely keeps me on edge much more. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall look, it looked modern, clean and fresh. I breathed new life into me. My husband's validation sealed the deal, he hasn't stopped commenting on how good I look since I have been home. He said he now has an upgraded wife :), I am a happy customer. It is very unfortunate that this salon doesn't take care of its customers. I parked across the street and told the stylist Kelly Ann where I had parked and that I was concerned about staying longer for the haircut she recommended because of parking. We talked about it for several minutes and she didn't tell me they towed after a certain time even though she knew they towed at 3p on that street every day! Have no idea why she didn't warn me to move my car. I pointed to exactly where it was parked right in front of the salon. When I left the salon it was 4p and the car was gone. It cost me over $800 to pick it from the tow lot and took an extra 2 hours. I missed my dinner reservation. Kelly Ann knew exactly what time it was as she was monitoring my hair and services. It would have been very easy for her to look out for me and give a warning about the towing. All the manager said was "it's not our responsibility". Kelly Ann convinced me to do this up charge haircut (which turned out badly) and not how I like it to be styled. The color also turned out cool toned with missing highlights in the back and it was supposed to be a butter blonde. I am not happy with the result of the service and a terrible experience. Never been to a salon before that doesn't help customers with parking. It's also just common sense and common decency to warn your customers if the street in front of your salon regularly tows cars in the afternoon. Especially since we were literally having a conversation about parking and that I was concerned about the service running too long beyond what I paid in the meter. A total of 40 minutes, in and out. Honestly, it felt more like a Super Cuts experience than a high end salon. Really upsetting given the cost.
